so i am in episode 4 and if anyone cares i will say that for some reason i thought it would be a raunchy comedy,…
It portrays korean gay life pretty well. With itaewon and jongo being popular gay destinations. Not worldwide tho since many countries its still illegal especially asian. As for hiv its very realistic. But wished they mentioned more like PeP, PreP and other injections which are 99%-100% effective. Relationship wise its hard to say. Some love hookups, some gays are recluse and don't like apps.
Open ending. While he doesn't have a boyfriend, having a bf doesn't define him. He's happy and content at the end and might actually end up with gyu ho since he still frequents the bar gyu ho worked in and is offered drinks by him.
1.Go young was just a naive kid here, thinking that the gay life needs to be all about partying and fun. It shows a specific part of it since many gay people worldwide can't enjoy like this yet. Especially in Asia, where you can be murdered or disowned. At least he firmly broke up with nam gyu, and didn't lead him on. However, i'm sure he harbours guilt from the accident that killed his ex.
2.Internalized homophobia at its finest. In gay culture these kind of men are called DL i.e Down Low for they hide their relationship. What pissed me off was that even eating a simple meal between two friends is considered "gay" and the fact that he considers gay an insult. Kudos to the mother for understanding his son at the end, however it shouldn't have been at her deathbed. The effects of conversion therapy can be dangerous as in the past they used to lobotomize people for it and in the present these religious councellors with no pyshcological degree tend to treat them as "patients". Lovely to see go young having a group of friends who love him for who he is.
3. HIV has become more treatable with new injections that are 100% preventable. Its always important to to STD tests and i wished they put more of an empahsis on that. We also have PreP and PeP two drugs that has a 99% success rate. Good on Go young on revealing to his partner about his condition. Its a shame that gy ho and him broke up, while LD relationships are possible its not for everyone. Also getting prep in korea is ridiculously expensive and hard to find. Sex shaming by doctors is pretty common if u go to a normal hospital, rather than a queer friendly one. As for his friends, some people don't understand untill it happens to their close ones. I think if go young told his friends that he's HIV positive, his friends would still love him for him.
4. I've no sympathy for married gay men or self hating gays. Cheating is cheating regardless, and im happy for go young on leaving him after finding it out.
Overall i don't think its a sad ending at the end just cuz you don't meet the love of ur life. Who knows? Gyu ho said he's coming back to korea so they might honestly meet again and he seems to be doing good.
"Goyoung character is so reckless, so most of the time we did skinship. We filmed over 300 takes of xxx scene with 8 actors. I just tried to make the other person comfortable every time, so it wasn't as difficult as I thought."
300 takes is alot 😅Kudos for him being brave about it.
1. Its LGBTQ/queer not BL.2. Author is famous and is nominated for two international book awards.3. Movie is done…
The rage is cuz it all of a became famous before even being released. All the other BL's became famous AFTER being released so nothing could be done about it.
As for the 2nd point, u mentioned its "some" and that's what seperates BL from queer media. I personally wouldn't classify ITSAY as BL since it did indeed have heavy topics. But thats thailand not korea, though thailand does an amazing job at blurring out the distinction.
The best korean queer media creator is Matchbox and strongberry. And they only got famous due to creating "chocomilkshake " which was a BL. KBL don't focus on coming out, people being chased out of their homes, social marginalisation, diseases, sex, bullying, religion, family.
Its slow but it will take time. I'm glad for the progress korea has shown. Especially with dating shows like "Hisman" Maybe people will be able to slowly accept and support queer drama too just like BL.
PS: I love BL, but in terms of impact i feel like queer media would do a better job if given the proper promotion and platform which "Love in the Big City" has acheived.
Its generally for korean audience only and even that its for people who like gay drama. Its not easy to promote since most of these shortfilms are with only -3 actors with the tightest budget. It gets even harder to promote if its queer rather than BL.
1. Its LGBTQ/queer not BL.2. Author is famous and is nominated for two international book awards.3. Movie is done…
Unfortunately its not being shown on TV, only online. The homophobes got scared cuz unlike BL's queer dramas portray real gay struggles. They hate to see people empathize with gay people. They think HIV and gay sex and love shouldn't be talked about. talk about next level crazy when korea produces softcore porn.
I have a theory that many will not like but remember it's just a theory. What if all this mess is fabricated ?…
1. Its LGBTQ/queer not BL. 2. Author is famous and is nominated for two international book awards. 3. Movie is done by Kim go Eun famous actress 4. Its one of the most searched dramas even tho its not released. 5. Its produced by TVing and is a famous korean OTT 6. Cast in tv series is famous, nam yoon su 7. One of the 1st time full length (50 mins) drama for a any sort of gay themed drama 8. Koreans have been talking alot about it on sns which drew the attention of anti-gay groups.
U can't even call ur theory a "theory" even cuz theories have some evidence supporting it. Urs is just an "opinion", an nonsensical one at it.
