this is surprisingly good (?) I tend to avoid xianxia these days but this one just pulled me right in and tie me down to continue watching. It's probably because of the story. unlike the typical xianxia, they characters are not driven by 'love' and 'the greater good' etc etc. everything is actually making sense.

yuzheng keeps making good dramas but he's just an awful person. I'm so conflicted everytime I enjoyed dramas so much and later saw his name in the cast and crew list.

I chuckled when it turns out hua rongzhu is just an imaginary man. after all, everyone just want a support system through our highs and lows.
then Hua Rongzhu turned into Hua Qian and I bawled lol. Often times we don't realize the one that has truly loved us through everything is actually... our very own self.

i think you're forgetting one thing that makes this drama less popular than Kunning palace: marketing. Kunning palace has big name actors to carry the promotion plus iqiyi knows how to market their dramas. i think youku is known for being bad at promoting their dramas.

i'm on ep 18 and i realized i cried over the brother's death then remembered he was a womanizer scum when he was alive and I suddenly feel conflicted,
then I just realized that this is probably the first time I've ever watched a cdrama with grey characters instead of the usual extreme evil vs good characters.
probably that's why this drama is hard to find lol

does anyone knows the more accurate translation for the characters' address? like I'm pretty sure the female lead is not the daughter of a 'butler'. Maybe if we use British peerage terms, Zhong family is a Ducal house and Hua family is a baron or something lower? but they are producing things so are they merchant?
