I'm not watching this at the moment yet, but I want to say that some of this might be rooted in China's history.…
Modern kdramas don't have principles of Confucianism in their scripts. Jdramas don't feature bullying of Korean characters. PH dramas don't pass a message that the audience should hate characters from the country of their past colonizers.

Yes, dramas often have stereotypes of other countries. But in WOT, it is just propaganda and they even like to put it on the audience's faces. This is very off. At least, make an effort to pass it subtly.

Honing characters with this kind of message brings down the drama quality. They just look dumb meddlers to me, instead of competent professionals.

the portrayed over heroism of chinese people is annoying and out of place. they are not the main involved in the war, so by acting like that is just meddling and superiority complex. but i like that its focus is the emotional effects of being in the war.

been thinking about the dots comparison. most conflicts in there happen inside the circle. in wot, they be always helping anyone in the streets to the point that she would want to be in debt with strangers. being in war zone, i believe it’s strict to maintain your own stability because you don’t know what could happen an hour or day later. wot characters are so emotionally invested. dots leads are also stubborn at some point but they have more reasoning. fl had a dying patient in her table, ml wanted to rescue his teammates. also, wot leads are not front-liners but somehow, they insist to be.

without the things i mentioned, i believe this could have been a very decent drama.

they are handling the stolen money situation more entertaining than i thought. ml is not inflexible and too noble. instead, he’s considerate of everyone. him running around everywhere is fun! his initial plan is also reasonable.

fl is saddened by her guilt but she has not lost her mind. her actions are also okayish. she is not isolating herself or throwing tantrums. she understands why her family did it and try to resolve the situation as much as she can while providing a thin shield to her fam.

for those who have read the novel, does he already know sign language? i’m guessing not, since his distance from his wife seems deliberate. not knowing sign language might be one of his ways to keep himself away. being unable to understand and use her primary means of communication...

felt like it would have been better without the stalker part. just messy lives with messy relationships without any blood involved.

It's soo annoying with how much they NERFED down Susu, she coud have been such an amazing character, but it just…
i am still not finished but i agree. i wish she was a more conflicted character. at some point, although she hasn’t forgotten her main mission, it seemed like she forgot that he killed her whole clan. like girl, we supposedly have more proper angst here, with fear, rage, and love mixed together.

huang yimei is a total goddess. once a man begins to notice her, he is forever locked in with her. therefore, i think hexi will continue to like her. but i suppose she had already experienced enough love, especially with pu jiaming. so i don't think she will ever have a serious relationship with hexi in the future even though she is kinda interested. she will probably have something like her boss' relationship, always lingering but still not set in stone so that it is easier to let go.

hexi has the vibes of young pu jiaming tho, adventurous, free, responsible, decisive, flirty, and passionate about his field. i wish for him to grow up well, like jiaming, and healthy, unlike jiaming.
On Lovely Runner Jun 21, 2024
i see many people comparing this to someday or one day, i disagree. SOOD focuses on two things, the complex thriller and the tragic romance. while lovely runner is just about the romance of the time traveller and his loser bf. even the mood of the two shows are very different. SOOD makes its viewers curious about the mystery part. LR makes its audience concerned about the relationship of the leads. SOOD’s time travelling and thriller part are stories of their own, they’re complex and well-thought. in lovely runner, these are just tools for the disruption and continuation of the romantic story. they didn’t even explain what triggered sol going back to the present in her first time travel. because it was just a way to cut leads’ budding romance.but because of the popularity of lovely runner, everything gets over analyzed. people were so invested that they automatically assume more that what’s presented to them. hence, the disappointment over the simpler mystery storyline.

currently rewatching, i'm on ep3 and i have some thoughts.

The way I see it now, Hani wants to move on because of his bad personality; she sees that. But her heart doesn't want to—she keeps getting pulled back to him. Additionally, she's an extremely emotional person, which must be frustrating for her.

Meanwhile, Seungjo is very curious about Hani, though he himself doesn't realize it. He actually notices everything about her. When Eunjo was badmouthing her, he checked Hani's reaction. He pretends not to listen to her stories but actually absorbs every detail. He noticed minor changes in her appearance and asked about the mascot she wore. He stopped to check how she was training for athletics and watches and enjoys her embarrassing antics. Seungjo is uninterested in the world, but he pays attention to things related to her. Though Hani can be stalkerish, he doesn't call her out on it. We saw him rejecting interactions with other girls, but with Hani, he just lets her do whatever she wants and anticipates how everything will pan out.

The problem lies in how he interacts with her. He likes interacting with her because she gives funny reactions (she is very expressive), but he doesn't know how to do it properly and friendly. For example, in this episode, when she told them that she doesn't like him, he wanted a reaction proving that she indeed likes him. Instead of making a playful comment like, "Huh? Are you kidding? Did you forget that you wrote me a love letter weeks ago?" he embarrasses her in front of everyone. He wants to engage in playful banter (or later, the push and pull in their relationship) because he enjoys it, but he doesn't know how to do it respectfully, so he ends up being rude to her. He really has a problem on expressing himself.

In KDramas (and maybe SK in general) any questioning of those in authority or older is considered to be disrespectful.…
letting the parents or students raise the issue? she was basically a total stranger and had no involvement on the case. she was really being nosy. and the issue was an internal one between the student and teacher.

she also knew that so she didn't clarify who she is when she arrived for she was aware he's not gonna entertain her.

dongjin might break down after some eps. he's literally trying to run away from everything about dh. he knows what he truly feels but isn't ready to confront it. he just bottles everything up, hoping that they'll disappear. but we all know that's never gonna happen.

Title A Shop for Killers Spoiler
i might sound dumb for asking this, but in ep 6 its shown that jinman works for...some assassination organization…
after their mission in ep6, he left the organization. that might be the time, or after bale killed his family, he started murthehelp.
On A Shop for Killers Feb 2, 2024
there’s no way jinman actually believed that no one would touch his niece after his death. if anything, they’d want to kill her more because she lost her protector. whole thing is a trap for betrayers and a big training ground (or “welcome-to-my-world” party) for jian.
