well just watched episode 11-12 and things seem to be heating up

hmm not 100% but pretty sure this Old Mu/Mu Lao is one of the major side villains in the novel

episode 11 had a scene right out the novel the alchemy pill to cover her scent was in the novel only difference is in the novel it made it look like she had a peacock bloodline and her phoenix bloodline was only known to the ml at the time

mortals have their own cultivation and immortal cultivation is not the start although not explicitly said but in the drama but in the novel mortals could cultivate until mortal peak and then breakthrough to become immortal and immortals could cultivate until immortal peak then become god so not all mortals have no cultivation level although to an immortal everything below immortal level are ants and to gods everything below god level ae ants

you're right that it's kinda open ending as FL and ML go into a cocoon state and come back after 500 years but the people who come out aren't explicitly said to be the leads

but drama seems to be going a little different as ml in novel learned early on she was the Phoenix and did everything he could to hide that fact and made it look like Wei Zhi was just 50% Peacock because the Phoenix in the novel was a divine being but many people are scheming bad things toward it to benefit themselves and ml knew some of these schemes so did everything he could to hide her Phoenix blood and prevented her from activating it

because in the novel the Heavenly Emperor is the big bad and has a huge scheme going on and ml finds out and opposes him and to protect the Phoenix Wei Zhi

if drama follows the novel then Heavenly Emperor is the final boss as he pretty much sacrifices all the life's in the three realms to become a god

ml in the novel becomes the demon emperor

i like all three actress myself and never had a problem with Ju Jingyi

yes that is a twist as she is the handmaid of the phoenix in past life and Wei Zhi as the phoenix in this life was her servant
