Are you picky when starting dramas? I see that many people who don't really drop shows, are usually more careful…
Ikr? You'd think a show with a huge jdrama star would be subbed but it doesn't work like that for some reason. It's really odd. Plus jdrama subbers tend to hide more often (rightly so) so it makes it more difficult. Man how I'd love all the other countries to have the same fame as Korea. It'd make exploring them all so much easier!

I've done that a few times as well and man does it suck, especially when you're absolutely loving the show! Originally I only started looking for subs because I was cleaning my ptw. Found about 50% of them weren't subbed so I added the "check for subs" rule into my routine. Was tedious at first, but it has saved me many times.

I'd say I was stricter with checking that all the eps are subbed/being subbed regularly before starting but that's about it. More often than not I just pick based on how interesting the synopsis is or go in blind because the title was cool. Over time I noticed historical/medical isn't my thing so I do shy from them more often, but if the synopsis is interesting I'll still try it since there will be - and has been - hidden gems in the genres I don't like as much.
My dropped is basically never used these days. I went through the everything on hold goes into the dropped phase (currently giving those a re-try) but after that I just turned into the type that doesn't often drop. I will occasionally (no matter if it's ep 1 or 14) with a note of why for future reference, but it's just rare.
There's some great recs on here! I'll always have a huge soft spot for jdramas. They're just so diverse genre wise and can turn some of the strangest sounding plots into the best stories.
