On Captivating the King Feb 7, 2024
I was just rewatching ep2 and the former king referred to himself as queen dowager's stepson. I was wondering how she could have killed her own son, but this makes a lot more sense.

I've seen other people speculating on this but I definitely agree that he is secretly fulfilling his brother's…
agree with all of this and you've articulated it very well! ML has definitely adopted the strategy of keeping your enemies close (Lady Dong, Hyun Bo, Myung Ha) and now he's doing the same with ML. I'm not sure they will remain enemies, but he's already guessed that she has returned for revenge so for now he knows she cannot be trusted.

the fact that they made ZERO for Mong Woo ZERO to look like a man is killing me. In Knight Flower Yeo Hwa at least…
I'm with you both, and I just really want to reply to someone whose screen name is 'suspiciousafternnoon' I will be disappointed if we're supposed to accept Lee In as a brilliant strategist if he has no idea Mong Woo is a woman. GTFO!

gonna put this out there after thinking it through i'm on the king's side now .. used to be on hers " felt bad…
I like this. FL was falling in love with ML. He promised that he would return for her, but when he turned his back on her she felt betrayed by someone she loved. Of course it also hurt that she lost a close friend, but I think his abandonment hurt worse. I've rewatched their conversation at the beginning of ep6 a few times, and I think we learn a lot from what they say. The king basically admits that he went crazy because he had to sacrifice his most trusted friend because he thought the couldn't save her or even himself. Love makes you do crazy things, but let's remember that both of them are strategic baduk players so there still might be a way through for them.

The dying king's final wish was that Lee In would find out who poisoned him and punish them. If Lee In is still an honorable man, and not the cold, ruthless asshole we just saw for the last two episodes, then I think he intends to fulfill his brother's dying wish, and establish the prince royal as king once it is safe to do so. Given what we know, I think Queen Dowager, with the help of Lady Dong are the most likely suspects. QD blames the former king for being defeated by the Qing. Also, given his illness, she knew once he died and the prince royal ascended the throne that she would have lost all of her power/influence.

I still find this honestly ridiculous that no one suspects the fact that she is a GIRL! But it's so good tbh.…
It will be much more satisfying if we discover that the ML has known that Mong Woo was a woman all along, and was just waiting for her to reveal in her own time.

Title Captivating the King Spoiler
Does anyone know what the depravity between the king and Lady Dong is referring to? It's discussed around 11:30…
I was just rewatching the beginning of episode 5. The letter sent to Mong Woo said that the king has no interest in his wives or the concubines. The women are desperate for him to produce an heir but he doesn't seem interested in that. It seems to be implied that the only woman he's sleeping with is Lady Dong. Maybe this is the depravity, that he's taken his brother's concubine? I am not sure I believe that he is actually sleeping with her, this might just be the cover story. Does he actually have a wife? Maybe she is just not getting any screen time because he is not interested in her.

I think Mong Woo's father will play a role in this at some point. Either Lee In will get him out of prison or he will return on his own.

That court lady dong for some reason i don't like her at all. I have this feeling that she's upto something
I think Jin Han realized it would have been impossible to poison the king without her help, so he's keeping her close until he can expose whoever was responsible.

The people in the comment section hating on the ML and saying he is a villain not a hero just make me laughing…
I agree with all of this. Mong Woo said she would only marry someone who could beat her at baduk, which means she values a strategist. Jin Ha has been acting strategically, to save his own life and do what is best for the kingdom. It his harsh that he had to turn his back on Mong Woo, but we have to remember that right now MW is just some dude he likes playing baduk with.

Okay, Court Lady Dong is not a concubine. According to the character bio, she is King Lee Sun's "intimate court…
When the king put his nasty thumb in her mouth, that certainly seemed to hint at some sort of sexual relationship between them. The poor girl seemed terrified most of the time, so I hope she is being treated better now that he is dead. It will be interesting to see if her character will be relevant moving forward. Maybe lying for Jin Han will be the last significant part she plays in the story?

How do we know he is married? And why in the world would he recycle his brother's concubine? I could see him granting her a position for lying for him, but I don't know why he would sleep with his brother's leftovers?
