Haha I get it. But even if someone shouted out how to behave in his face, he totally wouldn't get it. He's just not there yet.

I'm WAAAY more worried they'll keep the scene of the ML assaulting the FL. If that happens, I'm gonna be pretty damn disappointed nil

Hm, I really don't see either Kavin or MJ saying anything like that to Thyme. We know they barely get through to him (trying to get the red card revoked, trying to get him to apologize to Ren) and since they couldn't stop Thyme from going too far with the red card, why would they think they could stop him from approaching Gorya.

And Thyme really is only talking about *approaching* Gorya, so I can't be there with you emotionally and see it as a "no means no" situation.

Kidnapping Gorya was way worse. Trying to stop her from getting off the bus was way worse. And yet, these moments let us see how Thyme's character is changing.

Through the course of the episode, Thyme goes from buying a bus and trying to make her accept it, to simply asking her to come meet him and allowing the choice to be hers to make.

Because it's her choice, she goes to him.

Obviously this production LOOKS stunning, the set for the stadium in particular is fantastic, everyone looks great etc etc....

But there are little things as well that make this production seem top notch.

Specifically, I'm thinking of that moment in episode 2 when Ren is making paper airplanes of his sketches.

When Gorya spots him on the other side of the roof, we see that he is just starting to fold a piece of paper. Then the next thing we see is Gorya stepping up beside him and him throwing a completed plane off the roof. We know it took her some time to get to where he was standing, and it was about the length of the time it took him to pull out a piece of paper and make a paper plane.

It's such a small thing, but it could easily have been overlooked or not included (don't show him starting to make the plane before she ran over) but instead it is a very subtle indication of time passing, and the continuity flows wonderfully.

For the first time ever, I'm rooting for the ML right from the beginning. Usually I feel like I've finally started rooting for the OTP in spite of the ML, rather than because of him.

I just need to let this out... But Thyme dialogue at the pool "Gorya is a hypocrite. She says she doesn't like…
Ehhh, I think it fit.

He isn't clever when it comes to Gorya. Since he likes Gorya, he believes that the kiss was intentional. If it was intentional, it means that she doesn't hate him as much as she said she did. Calling her a hypocrite also emphasizes how he believes that accepting his gifts is the same as accepting him.

Because he isn't clever, though, he thinks the next move is just figuring out the right thing to buy.... and he decides on buying a bus! lol

I think this theory is born out a bit because, as she's trying to get the bus to stop, he even shouts out, "I gave you luxurious things and you turned them down. I give you simpler things and you won't take it."

Thankfully his big sis gave him sound advice.

Going off of what you are saying.... one of the things that bothers me a lot is when someone says that there are "plot holes" in a show or a movie, when in reality something was left intentionally vague. Not everything should be stated so bluntly. As you mentioned, Kiyoi's actions totally showed his feelings for Hira way more than his words ever could (plus, then it would be a lot more boring to watch).

Utsukushii Kare has such a high rewatch value for me because the plot is secondary to the characters. Knowing that they get together, even knowing HOW they get together, isn't nearly as compelling as just feeling the emotions that these characters are feeling as the episodes play out.

Thanks for writing out your thoughts!

THIS IS THE WORST VERSION! Pretentious but failed.- Their wardrobes are inappropriate to the setting and unjustified.-…
The other thing you can do is use the comments made by other people to make your points.

Like, if someone is discussing a scene that you think represents the "compromised quality" that you mentioned, you could jump off to explain your point.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that if you really feel this way (since you're taking the time to watch the show and to comment in the first place) you should put some effort into figuring out WHY you feel that way, and how to explain your feelings beyond vague statements.

Being able to do this is also good for the people reading, because they can either see what you mean, or they can dig deeper to figure out why they think differently from you.

It makes for good dialogue and more fun discussions I think

Your comments are still too vague to invite discussion...

What about their wardrobe is inappropriate/unjustified?

What scenes seem unfocused in the storytelling? What examples can you use to describe what you mean by they try to "incorporate everything"?

What is obsolete? (This one in particular confuses me)

Where do you see bad quality?

Can you articulate the motivations that you see and feel are misplaced?

It's Sunday night and I've got nothing to do but keep obsessing, so here are 5 things from Episode 3 that I loved:

1 - Gorya's Family
I find Gorya's family to be ridiculously precious. Their reaction to the fall-and-kiss trope was A+ meta-commentary, yes, but I also love that Gorya and her brother share a small room. It's a nice reminder of their very humble situation, but also a nice depiction of their closeness as siblings.
2 - MJ
I'm low-key crushing on MJ after the stairwell encounter with Gorya. He was just there to lightheartedly tease her, and let her know where to find Ren, but whoops, his smile stole my heart. I'm a bit of a goner now RIP.
I am so so pleased at how this show is wrapping MJ into the storyline. I don't recall a single thing about the 4th F4 in any of the other versions, but so far he feels like a real person, and an important friend. He was also the only one who actively tried to talk Thyme into cancelling Gorya's red card, so when he teased Gorya in ep3, it felt earned. Like, I believe they totally can be friends. (and he seems like such a thoughtful friend too *swoon*)
3 - Flower Shop Uncle
This guy needs more discussion on the forum. He's just fantastic. In this episode, he gave Gorya the prompting that led to her big moment of growth. Basically, his prompting started her thinking about Ren without Mira, about hope, eventually leading to that raw moment where she completely exposed her feelings to Mira, breaking down any barriers between them and allowing Mira to give her advice, "don't look away from a problem".
4 - That Bus Scene
Super cute scene all around, but my absolute favorite moment was Thyme ending up on the floor AGAIN (he loves the floor lol) because he's never ridden a bus before and doesn't know how to handle a sudden stop. hahahaha.
5 - Kaning
The moment was short and subtle, but I loved Gorya teasing Kaning when they saw Kavin on the TV and Kaning pretends like she's so annoyed by him, Gorya: "Didn't you say he was handsome?" Kaning: "No way!". Pfft, yeah you tell yourself that girly. It reminded me of the beginning of the episode, when Kaning calls out Gorya for pretending like she isn't worried about what Ren thinks (Kaning says something like, "how long have we been friends???") and it just reinforces that they have the kind of friendship where they can help each other see through the lies they tell themselves. It also provides a small through-line for a believable setup for KaningKavin in the future.

I rewatched ep 3 again and I didn't quite understand that forehead kiss between RenGorya. When did they even get…
Aww I loved that part! I thought it was a super sweet gesture and it felt natural to the characters.

They seem to have grown pretty close already. Close enough for Gorya to shout some sense into Ren and step into his business. So it makes sense that he would feel a sense of intimacy with her, and gratefulness as well. Maybe slight sadness mixed in too.

I think Gorya's eyes flickering back and forth from the over-shoulder camera shot was superb. Obviously, Ren's kiss was more intimate than Gorya was expecting too (though it's not like she didn't like it lol).

1. How bad the bullying is subjective, I guess. I still think that this is the worst bullying from all the other…
I agree with your second point.

I think the pacing of the episode worked more for me than others, because I saw it as a "cooling down" of sorts. The red card has been canceled, she's spending a lot of time thinking about seeing Ren and about Mira, she has a sweet, fun, completely non-threatening encounter with MJ and Kavin in the stairwell (loved this part), and even the bus scene with Thyme wasn't threatening to her. She was mostly just annoyed and uninterested in playing along with his bs, and it ended with her a little smitten with his sister lol.

After all that, and her awesome scene with Mira, she gets to see a side of Thyme that's new to her (friend, vulnerable, dorky), and sees F4 being silly and sweet together.

Wait, now that I've written this all out, I do feel like there's a closeness between her and the rest of them, because she was shown that side of them, when no one else really is.

When she's back in school, Hana and the trio are clearly still thinking of F4 as they have in the past (fearful and reverent), but Gorya had more of a casual vibe about her.

Thank you! I was struggling with why it felt so rushed. It's disappointing because this version is so incredibly…
Hmm... you think?

When Thyme's video plays and Gorya waves her hand to play it off, you can tell she doesn't really know what to make of it. Like, is it a date or another way to mess with her? This seems particularly realistic to me. Especially for a teen who can't trust the motivation of the person who is doing weird thinks like buying busses. I don't think she should believe that he has fallen for her until he earns it.

The airport scene did a great job showing a good side of Thyme to Gorya. She sees him caring about his friend, she sees him being vulnerable. It's a great moment to push her towards being more open to him in the future (whereas, on the bus she was only annoyed/angry/interested in getting away from him. She had NO interest in anything he had to say or in being around him).

When she goes to him in the rain, the last thing I would think here is that she is accepting a date with Thyme. Rather, it's more like she's showing she open to Thyme as a person, which is a huge step that we need to see before we start seeing her have more personal moments with him in the future.
