On The Story of Ming Lan Jan 13, 2019
I wasn't super interested in this drama when I first heard about it, paired with comments about the slow pacing, it fell even further on my watch list. I binge watch, (difficult with slower paced dramas) so I figured if I started it now, I would catch up to the currently airing eps when it was about to end... But I'm caught up in only a few days and floored with how fascinating I find this drama. The characters, the history--every look, word, event, has meaning. The first episode pulled me in and I didn't want to leave. The societal norms and relationships are so captivating. I feel like I'm learning so much during each episode, while also growing to care and cheer for characters I wouldn't have in the beginning. But now I don't know what to do while waiting for new episodes to air lol.

I've always been wary of historicals because they often end in tragedy, but does anyone have any Chinese historical recs that are similar in vein? (Possibly a few with strong female characters?)

Title The Eternal Love Spoiler
I kept seeing people rave about Season 2, so I needed to watch Season 1. For someone who avoided it like the plague,…
Just finished! You guys were right, episodes 21-24... umm...

GoT and Ice Fantasy-lite smooshed together on a 90s Saturday Morning, Power Rangers budget. (And I LOVED Power Rangers....)

I could gel with the beginning of 21 even though it was all over the place (because we were in a C-drama and I could kind of piece together what was happening). Then it just jumped the shark. By the end of 23 I kind of wanted to skip to season 2.

All this convoluted story was suddenly brought up, all these long monologues and complicated magic and past lives and there were only 15 min left!!! Whyyy???

I liked Xiao Tan throughout the drama despite more than a few questionable moments, but if you're one of the many who didn't in the beginning, it gets worse in the last 4 episodes lol. :'D

But all in all this entire drama was an unexpected surprise. And despite the scrambled eggs of the last 4 eps, I really needed the lightheartedness right now. <3 On to season 2! (Although I'm wondering where they're going to take it...)

I kept seeing people rave about Season 2, so I needed to watch Season 1. For someone who avoided it like the plague, I binged the first 18 eps and didn't even realize it. I love the leads together. Xiao Tan is over the top crazy but somehow so enjoyable to watch. It's a silly lighthearted drama. Temper your expectations and it's a fun ride. (Although I'm now scared to watch the last few eps because of the comments below... eek.)

I did kind of hope the person who went back in Ep 15 was the original Woo Jin, and the current Woo Jin had all of her memories back (but would never say) and was still happy even after all they went through. I think a twist like that would have made me think they'd both learned, let go, and became happy because they chose to be happy. But I was still grinning like a crazy lady with the way they wrapped up everything in the end.

Done! A++++ Ji Sung and Han Ji Min were excellent. I've always liked HJM, but I think she was really able to show off her acting chops in this drama. The characters were all so flawed but beautifully executed, so you were able to see all of their colors. I'm still left with a few questions, but all in all I'm so glad I watched this.

I'm on episode 4 right now and I'm enjoying this drama so much. I thought because of the comments I would have to sit this one out, but it's so so enjoyable (not in a pleasant/cute way, but a real "this happens" way). But I do have to turn off the comments on Viki and watch this alone lol. Everyone's fighting and there's so. much. hate. But I can't wait to watch the rest. So thank you to those who said to give it a shot. :)

Does this drama have an entire OST released? I've been looking for the past 30min and can't find one...? Help?

Understandable, but frustrating lol. I'll persevere!

I'm on episode 35 on Viki, and EVERYONE hates Deng Lun. Does this change? Do any viewers actually like him, or begin to later? This feels like another PA where the story shifts to the second ML. I love him, don't get me wrong, but... DL! Lol.

Finally started this after putting it off for years. Everyone has always talked about the beautiful romance... But all I'm seeing is bromance. Which is fine. But I was really looking forward to the friendship of all three. Is there more meaningful interaction between SY and the CP after Ep 23? I know she becomes a concubine and the ending, but are all their interactions just gazing at each other? I'm mean, that's cool... lol. But I was expecting a bit more.

My biggest dissappointment about this drama is that I have to wait for mon and tues to come for the next episodes.…
What Amy said. It's understandable you want to advertise your site, but copying other users' comments is rude. I've seen your copied posts on several dramas now.

Dont worry we still have 6 episodes ahead of us and I believe it will be a happy ending. And btw secret love affair…
It's definitely in my top five dramas. Even though a lot of people were upset, I thought it was excellent too. ^^ But for this drama, I just want a little more happiness. Okay, a bit more than a little lol.

I avoided this for awhile, because while I love JNR, the promos felt dated... and not in a good way lol. But I started it anyways because I haven't been feeling a lot of the currently airing dramas. And the feels have just thrown me into the gutter like silly putty. I'm nearing 30 and this drama just hit my heart in so many places. I was a mess while watching this. It was humorous and heartwarming and it hurt in ways that were too close for comfort. I will remember this drama for a long time.
