From Lantern Lights to Political Storms

Episode 15 wastes no time proving that the peaceful lantern glow from the previous episode was indeed the calm before the storm. After his conversation with Yin Gong Sun, Xie Zheng begins seriously considering whether he should take the Fan sisters with him when he leaves and officially make Chang Yu the lady of the Xie family. The man clearly knows the battlefield is no picnic and that life beside him will be dangerous and rough, but Yin Gong Sun reminds him that Chang Yu is not exactly your typical delicate flower. She’s tough, resilient, and stubborn in the best way possible. Honestly, I would pay good money to see Xie Zheng marching into war with Chang Yu and Chang Ning right beside him like a power trio. But when Xie Zheng subtly hints that he might be leaving soon, Chang Yu’s reaction is unexpectedly soft. She looks sad and asks him to stay. The moment is touching, sure, but I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of clingy, lovestruck Chang Yu. I’m rooting for the fiercely independent version of her who runs debt collectors like a boss. Speaking of family truths, Chang Yu’s grandpa finally reveals the story behind her father. The emotional weight is there, though I’m still a bit confused about why he feels so guilty and keeps saying this is karma for him. I might need to rewatch that part because the explanation flew past me like an arrow in battle. What really got my adrenaline pumping, though, was when Chang Yu and Xie Zheng finally started talking politics. Watching the seasoned Marquis Wu’an explain the harsh realities of power and revenge to our still somewhat idealistic Chang Yu was genuinely exciting. This feels like the exact moment the drama flips the page into a new chapter. War and corruption are starting to loom over Jizhou, and you can practically feel the shift in tone as the story gears up for bigger political stakes. By the end of the episode, trouble lands squarely on Qian Qian’s doorstep as her restaurant gets tangled in some shady situation that clearly involves a powerful figure pulling strings behind the curtain. On the bright side, it was ridiculously fun watching Chang Yu assemble her little team of debt collectors to investigate like a scrappy detective squad. That’s the Chang Yu I love. The final moments crank the tension up to eleven when officials take Qian Qian away and Chang Yu immediately runs after them. Just when things seem about to explode, a mysterious man stops her and our normally kindhearted heroine reacts by pointing a knife straight at him. Plot twist, the poor victim is actually Xie Zheng. I almost laughed and gasped at the same time. For the first time ever, Chang Yu is literally holding a blade to Marquis Wu’an’s throat. What an ending. Watching this drama while it’s airing is honestly torture in the best way possible. They spike my adrenaline, drop a cliffhanger, and then leave me dangling until tomorrow. At this point Pursuit of Jade has a full chokehold on me and I’m not even trying to escape.

after the previous ep i would be pissed if by the end of this ep Tiger & Lynx weren't a couple. i get that Lynx is skittish & even get his not wanting to jump into a relationship just cause Tiger has been wooing him from the sec they met. u need to take ur time & i get that - even if u don't have childhood PTSD cause of ur parents situation & love life. but after everything Tiger has done - either end things cold turkey or have a candid conversation with him, what u can't keep doing is this back & forth where ur basically leading him on & keep him hanging cause u can. ************************************************************************heck in that aspect i like Leo's forward approach more, he not pussy footing around he wants something he goes for it, like with the Vet - now that was funny. maybe too forward for the Vet & that's why he's just ignoring him thinking that's his personality to be overly flirty. but liked that approach more

Sweet Festivities Before the Storm

Episode 14 felt like a warm bowl of tangyuan on a snowy night, sweet, comforting, and just a little bit sticky with emotions. We open right where the previous episode left off with the almost kiss that wasn’t meant to be. Poor Chang Yu was too drunk to land the moment and poor Xie Zheng had his chance stolen by our tiny chaos gremlin Chang Ning. Romance 0, interruption 1. Still, the mood quickly melts into something wholesome when the gang gathers in the snow. Watching Chang Yu, Chang Ning, Xie Zheng, Bao Er, Qian Qian, and their maid Fu Ling playing together in the winter felt like pure serotonin. The scene radiated warmth despite the freezing setting and it really hit me that Chang Yu and Chang Ning finally have something resembling a family, plus a circle of loyal besties. Of course, this drama never lets us stay in fluffy land for too long because here comes Qi Min creeping in like the villain who skipped the New Year fireworks and went straight to chaos mode. Even though Bao Er tried to bluff his way through by lying about his name and birthdate, Qi Min still dug around and discovered the truth that Bao Er is his son. And just when you think that revelation alone is scary enough, he goes ahead and kills Qian Qian and Bao Er’s maid. My anxiety levels immediately shot up for both Bao Er and Qian Qian, though I have to confess that part of me is also curious about their dynamic. Deng Kai and Kong Xue Er have such striking visuals together and their chemistry is very much giving dangerous but intriguing energy. At the same time I cannot help worrying about Chang Ning because she is Bao Er basically his only friend, so if Qi Min manages to take Bao Er and Qian Qian away, Qi Min might also take Chang Ning to keep Bao Er company. Thankfully the episode wraps us back in sweetness with the Lantern Festival. Chang Yu, Chang Ning, and Xie Zheng wandering through the festive lights was ridiculously cute. My heart melted when Xie Zheng noticed that other kids were being carried by their fathers or brothers and immediately volunteered to carry Chang Ning. Sir, that was smooth and soft at the same time. Then we get the legendary hair tying scene where Xie Zheng gently ties Chang Yu’s hair while Yin Gong Sun captures the moment in a drawing as a gift. Honestly that scene was pure gold, like a perfect screenshot from a romance novel. But even with all the warmth and lantern glow, the vibe feels suspiciously like the calm before the storm. Duty is already knocking on Xie Zheng’s door and he plans to leave in three days, right after Chang Yu’s birthday. Something tells me the drama is about to turn the page and when it does, the peaceful family moments we just enjoyed might become the memories everyone clings to. Fingers crossed but also bracing myself.

The SUSPENSE absolutely insane!!!!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!This episode was so thrilling and exciting to watch. All the angst and uncertainty of the vision that In got of Thap and eventually the ending scene finally revealing his vision during NEW YEAR please what a timing..... Amazing episode and kudos to the actors for setting such an amazing performance. Besides that, the suspicion of Kan is getting more and more thrilling. He looks way too sus since the very first episode. I can't wait to see the total reveal eventually of his evil masterplan. ALSO finally Nut aka Thiu getting more lines LOOLLL, way too funny. And BOOK also getting a cameo! Love that and I like to think that this is his revenge after Sea got his cameo in perfect 10 liners LMAO.

i really enjoyed this ep - heck i laughed my ass off & i thought i would be weeping in this ep with Leo's appearance. but - nope it was fun & funny how both brother's butt-heads & how Tiger found himself sandwiched in between the brother's. like the added dynamic of Leo he liven things up & it's not that i found the mains boring but they too mellow for my liking & needed someone to come shake things up. so IMO Leo is a welcome addition. *************************************************************side note: idk how Leo hasn't been around for 3 months, especially if Lynx's mother was paying his rent - usually u pay monthly no? kinda weird - same with her not offering Leo room at her place, it's not like Lynx was also staying there so there was no place.

Solid but...

To be fair, nothing tops the first season, but I appreciate in this premier episode they kinda pull back on the craziness of the second season. However the plot is very linear with the hurt people, hurt people ideology. The acting was really solid, Sky was a very compelling character and until the end I was expecting to be darker. Sam was able to give complexity with somewhat stereotypical bullied character.Bank was also a villain, from anger to fear, you can really feel in his emotions.Becky is a good Nanno with her menacing expressions. Probably I want more mystery in her actions.

Very hard to decipher what they are after.

But i am so glad to see Mainleads paired together after their MegaHit on Save Myself. They just naturally shine on-screen! This one is a very complex story, but i am intrigued by how different it is.

Power Plays, Hidden Identities & Festival Couplet Chaos

Episode ThoughtsAnother busy episode with multiple storylines moving forward.🪷The episode opens with the FL trying to figure out how she’s going to explain to the ML that she essentially loaned him out to Manager Yu for the day. At first ML doesn’t seem too bothered… until he finds out who he’ll be meeting.🪷Enter the mysterious man connected to the grain.🪷Their meeting immediately turns into a quiet power struggle. Both men are testing each other, and it quickly becomes clear that the mysterious man already knows ML’s true identity. He’s clearly trying to sway ML to his side, which raises even more questions about his real position. At this point I’m convinced he has to be a prince or someone extremely high ranking.🪷Back in the village, after ML rescued Manager Yu, she can’t help but ask the FL how far their marriage has actually progressed. It’s a funny moment but also reveals a lot about the FL’s feelings.🪷She’s starting to fall deeply for him, but she also believes that one day he’ll leave. Rather than forcing him to stay, she seems determined to accept things as they are.🪷Their sweet moments together while ML writes festival couplets show just how comfortable they’ve become around each other.🪷Even more amusing is the return of the gossiping granny. After causing so much trouble before, she suddenly does a complete turnaround and now wants ML to write a festival couplet for her.🪷The butcher shop has officially become the village cultural center.🪷We also get a short but very important scene back at court.🪷The Royal Princess is summoned to see her mother, who makes it very clear she will never allow the Princess to be involved with the academy’s headmaster. Apparently an imperial decree is involved, though the details are still unclear.🪷Then comes the real shock.🪷The Princess is actually betrothed to the ML.🪷Which is going to cause some serious problems once the FL eventually discovers ML’s true identity.🪷To finish things off, the Prime Minister is back plotting again, clearly unhappy that his larger plans are being disrupted.🪷At this point it’s becoming harder and harder to tell who the real villain is.🪷And that tension is exactly what’s making this drama so addictive.🪷Favourite MomentThe power play meeting between ML and the mysterious man.🪷Trope Check • Hidden identity ML • Political power struggle • Village life vs court intrigue • Growing romance • Childhood betrothal reveal • Suspicious royal politics

this ep was so cringe, it took me ages to get thought it ugh... but am glad that by the end Tiger confessed. about time - also love his relationship with his father & how the coming out was handled, no fuss - no discussion. just realization & then moving onto what was important. very cool - ******************************************************************************************************side note: have to point this out, idk why the hair stylist messes with First's hair. he ALWAYS got this goofy, long ass hair that looks like it's thinning out & it makes him look goofy, not cool or hot. which is a pity as i've seen him with shorter styled hair in reality & he looks so freakin good - so what gives?????

Calligraphy, Secrets & Missing Children

First ImpressionThis episode is jam packed: clever business ideas, gossip getting shut down, mysterious men, missing children, and a hilarious fake husband situation.🪷Episode ThoughtsEpisode 12 opens with Manager Yu once again proving she’s incredibly business savvy. She suggests adding calligraphy to the FL’s meat packaging, which unexpectedly turns the ML into a bit of a local celebrity.🪷Suddenly ladies and even scholars are showing up just to admire and collect his beautiful calligraphy. Who knew the butcher shop would become the most cultured place in town?🪷We also get a very satisfying moment when the ex-fiancé’s mother gets a well deserved verbal slap down. She simply cannot stop gossiping.🪷Unfortunately for her, the mysterious man overhears her talking badly and immediately orders someone to warn her about her behaviour.🪷Honestly… priceless.🪷Manager Yu then finds herself in real trouble when a drunk customer tries to attack her. Thankfully the mysterious man appears and rescues her.🪷But instead of relief, Manager Yu looks uneasy around him.🪷Which raises even more questions.🪷It looks like he could be the father of her son, but their relationship is clearly complicated. Manager Yu doesn’t seem comfortable or safe around him.🪷The mention of the Prince’s Mansion also makes things even stranger. If the boy is connected to the prince, that would make him royal.🪷So who exactly is this man?🪷Meanwhile the little boy and the FL’s little sister quickly become friends while playing together. Their innocent fun quickly turns into panic when both children suddenly disappear.🪷Both Manager Yu and the FL are terrified.🪷Manager Yu’s reaction is particularly telling. She’s incredibly harsh with her son when they’re looking for him, which shows just how deep her fear runs. Whatever happened in her past clearly left serious scars.🪷Elsewhere the ML’s quiet plotting begins to bear fruit when soldiers arrive looking to purchase grain. It seems the plans he’s been putting together are moving faster than expected.🪷The episode ends with a surprisingly funny moment.🪷Manager Yu admits she’s afraid of the mysterious man and asks the FL if she can borrow her husband — the ML — to pretend to be her husband to help deal with the situation.🪷Honestly… I did not see that coming.🪷But I’m definitely curious to see how that plays out.🪷Favourite MomentML unintentionally becoming popular because everyone wants his calligraphy.🪷Trope Check • Business genius female characters • Hidden identity mystery man • Protective ML • Missing children panic • Fake husband trope • Political intrigue building

Wrapping things up

They tried to wrap up the majority of it. As usual, the victims were the least recompensed and the perpetrators held accountable for violations of their jobs not for harming children. The detective took the biggest hit and now divorce papers aren’t accepted. He has been hero and scapegoat most in this drama. Compared to the other episodes, I found this one the most lackluster tho probably the most real. It still shows that survival is the most victims can hope for with SA crimes. It is pretty clear that BTJ is still out there with his new golden ticket VVIPS special invitations. If there is a season 2 I am not sure I will watch. This drama very intensely brought to the fore social ills we all feel somewhat resigned that no true justice exists for. I am not sure I want a round two of watching the rich and powerful continue to get their way.

Eps 13 is bad for my health

Seeing Xie Zheng and Qi Min in one frame is really bad for my health hhhh. I can't breath. They are literally breathtaking. When Xie Zheng broke the choopstick and throw it to Qi Min's guard alone is already made me shiver. And lastly we got a warm New year eve. Love how director shoot this scene. It's so warm
