My no.1 Chinese drama so far-Nearly dropped but gladly not. thank you MDL fans.
The Untamed – My No.1 Chinese Drama (Highly Recommended!)I’ve watched many Chinese dramas, but The Untamed is the best. My No.1.
Because of this drama, I started listening to Chinese songs, bought hanfu clothing, learned a bit about some Chinese actors, searched for other Chinese bromance dramas, and even tried learning the Chinese language. That’s how powerful the impact of this drama in my life.
What I love about The Untamed:
The actors and actresses are amazing—even the supporting roles. They’re not only good-looking but truly talented in acting.
The story writing is excellent. It brings such a strong emotional effect to the audience.
The cinematography is top-notch. The camera angle, the slow motion , zoom in , so perfect.
The locations and background settings are so beautiful. It feels like we’re in a fantasy world.
The costumes are stunning—just simple , plain colour with minimal decoration but still elegant and attractive.
The soundtrack is incredibly emotional and powerful. I can’t describe how, but it stays with you.
Characters I adore:
Lan Zhan – He feels like a prince from another world. Not only is he handsome, but he’s also incredibly talented. His expressions are on another level. He doesn’t need to speak—his gestures and eyes say everything. He is like a hero for me.
Wei Ying – another one of my favourite character is Wei Ying . He’s so hilarious and his acting is on point. He brings the perfect touch of humor to balance the intense storyline. Not only handsome but full of charm. Always make me laugh whenever he's on screen. His bond with Lanzhan make me smile.
Honestly, most of the actors in The Untamed are both good-looking and talented. Even the supporting cast did an amazing job. Congratulations to the production team—excellent work!
What I didn’t like (at first):
The first and second episodes were confusing, and I almost dropped the drama. But after reading the positive reviews on MDL (kisskh), I gave it another try since I was curious, how could this drama get a 9.0 rating and so many fans?
After finishing it, I couldn’t move on. I tried watching another dramas, but The Untamed haunted me like a ghost. Especially the soundtrack and the chemistry between the main leads. It took me a few month to move on.
Hardly to move on.
I’m still hoping for a Season 2 with same cast (fans said no season 2 . They refer on novel, novel ending just like that)
Actually I really want to see Wei ying and his brother like before. Good Family relation Before his family died.
Big thanks to the fans on MDL—your comments really helped me to continue watching.
And thank Jesus Christ, I didn’t drop it. I was so close to giving up—but thankfully, I didn’t.
I truly hope Chinese productions will create another masterpiece like this in the future.
For me, The Untamed is the benchmark for all Chinese dramas.
The untamed have everything -all in one- comedy, emotionally, family ,brotherhood, fighting scene
THE UNTAMED – My No.1 Chinese Drama So Far.
Highly recommended!

A MUST WATCH
Welllll (always starting like this)I don’t know where to begin with.
I freaking loved it!!!!
The plot was amazing. It adapts from a novel, so congrats to the novel writer, they did an amazing job.
Also to the dramas director/s 👏
It's not easy to turn a definitely BL novel, into a good bromance drama.
-------
The cast was amazing too.
Xiao Zhan is definitely one of my favorites C-actors. He really talks a lot in the drama😂
And this was my first drama with Wang Yibo acting in, and I must say that I was impressed. Having to keep that serious face all time was amazing. Congrats 👏
I loved the actors who played the youngsters of the different clans. They did an amazing job. They really made me laugh almost all time (mostly Jing Yi, since he is the most straightforward😂)
--------
Amazing OSTs.
Loved every single one.
-------
A 10/10 drama. I'd re-watch it any time.

Worth Its Popularity
At first, I only checked this out because it was so popular, but it completely took me in after awhile. It was slow to start, though, for me. The settings were extremely beautiful, the leads were also beautiful, and the action scenes were well choreographed. I still didn't get completely engrossed, because I thought the character archetypes of smart but impulsive troublemaker as foiled by a cold, rule abiding genius were too stereotypical, so I started caring only about after episode 15 or so.This is because as the story went on, it made much more sense to me why the producers and writers did what they did. Two pretty boy singers were cast, because the plot revolves around using music to both heal and harm. The two male leads' dynamic also made me happy. The behind the scenes for them made me happy too, and I know most of the fans are pretty obsessive about shipping these two, both in character and in real life. But since I don't usually listen to Chinese pop, and am arguably new to Chinese dramas, I didn't know them until now, and also didn't know that Wang Yibo is very popular and has a built in fan base even before he starred in this drama.
It was both puzzling and surprising who the mastermind was, at the end. The philosophies about how public opinion can change in a very fickle manner, the things people would do for power, and their motivations to obtain power in the first place are well thought out. I understand why this was such a popular novel.
I was also impressed by the way animals are used. Animals and children are the hardest elements to direct with, because they're both unpredictable, but the cuteness pays off, and in every case, serves to soften the feel of the characters. Wei Wuxian was a typical smart but tactless character to me, until he saved the innocents from the so-called enemy side, and then we met the child Yuan.
Aside from the character archetypes that I thought were stereotypical at first, I thought the pacing was weird. It was much more slow moving at first, in the flashback sequences where they were talking about the past. The atmosphere also seemed much darker, sadder. But maybe it could serve the plot in that, it was perhaps a dream, and one of the protagonists had a major traumatic event. I also thought the character Jiang Cheng was so annoying, but maybe he's meant to be like that.
I very much enjoyed it overall. The behind the scenes were enjoyable too, the shipping is enjoyable as well. So is the music. I would watch again.

One of the most recommended cdrama
You know what, This drama is one of the most recommended cdrama for a new cdrama lovers. Honestly, I reject it at first (please don't be mad >_<). But not until I tried to force watch it for the first 3 episodes, I am completely IN LOVE! Yes, so true deeply and madly in love. hahahahahahaXiao Zhan? Wang Yi Bo? Giving me a new meaning of cdrama, as I watched it in my early passion for cdrama, they are amazing here, the chemistry is undeniably clicking (and ofc they are handsome as HELL. hahahahaha)
The story is not the typical xianxia or wuxia cdrama, with a lilttle bit touch of darkness is so irresistible. A dark heroic role will fluster your heart as soon as you watch the connection between the two MLs. As you read the description in MDL, you'll know that The Untamed based the story from the novel, but you'll probably want to know also that they make the anime version as good as this cdrama (well, better if I may say so).
If what you look for in a cdrama is an adventure, a good team-work, a sweet love gestures without even disgusted by BL, a dark fantasy wuxia, you're on the right track here. Skip this drama if you don't like a BL theme tho, although there are no provocative scenes show them but we all know there are "something" between them (in the story I mean, don't be so dirty to assume things outside the drama). The Untamed is not a new cdrama, so I'll tell you about the situation at that time. There were almost no interesting cdrama with this kind of theme (you know what I mean, right?), soooo when the cdrama came out, It was a HUGE hit almost instantly. Who can resist two handsome faces actors with so much chemistry between them playing a dark-theme magic cdrama with good story line sparkle with (considered) good CGI, right? At last, they made something aside from "dragon-sabre" or "journey from to west" theme cdrama. hahahahaha. I have been waiting for so looooooooonnnnnnnngggggggggg. So after a decade of monotonous theme in cdrama world, the Untamed became a tornado that will spin and wreck your heart to fall in love (again) in the Chinese historical drama.
As far as I know guys, rating in MDL don't lie. Although, love and hate are basically subjective, but trust me when I say, these ratings and reviews are not non-sense and people are really smart to deduct a good-production high-valued interesting-plot dramas. You may once or twice disagree with them, but as a MDL loyal follower, I can say this "read reviews, considered the rating before you watch cdramas might not disappoint you!"
Hav fun watching!!!

Loyalty and Love
10/10Seems my intuition was right and this was one i had to see. When i ended it i felt empty something that always happens to me with my favorites. What a fantastic ride. 50 episodes past by and i didn't even notice it.
In my short time watching dramas (1 year,i'm pretty much a newbie) i don't think i saw better matched pairing than Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan.
Wei Wuxian, the complete hero, always selfless, always fighting for the ones who can't. His cheeky and seemly unpreocuped demeanor hook you from the start. He really is the perfect scapegoat because his good heart make him naive in a way.
Lan Zhan, stoic, silent and loyal. So loyal. When someone is that silence they notice things others don't. He never was fooled, he knew for the start something wasn't right. Also powerful to the max specially when it comes to protecting Wei Wuxian.
They really are an unbeatable combo. You could give me 50 more episodes with them and i absolutely watch it tbh. I love them and i'm going to miss them sooo much.
Even when halfway to the story i knew who the real villain was (I think is was pretty obvious) that doesn't take anything for it being super engaging. You just need to see how justice is served, finally.
The funny moments were just too funny (Specially mention to drunk Lan Zhan giving fat chickens to Wei Wuxian) and the tragic ones were too tragic (The sister dying, since i didn't expected it). It all balance soo well, nothing seems unnecesary in the story telling.
The support character where great too, i saw myself screaming to my tv everytime Guang Yao appeared being all nice lol. Also kudos to the actor, Zhu Zan Jin, because the last four episodes were a master in acting from his part.
Jiang Cheng ughh this guy. It got so much on my nerves too. Of course for different reasons than Guang Yao but still. He was just jelaous of the clearly superiority in everything of Wei Wuxian and, instead of trusting and supporting his brother, he decided to joing the mob and kill him. He is a little pathetic tbh.
Wen Ning or ghost general poor baby. really. I mean i enjoyed how loyal and strong he was but he really got the worst luck in all the drama. It was great when he told Jiang Cheng everything about the golden core "You really think you could beat him any other way?" YOU TELL HIM BB!!!
Lan Xi Chen, well. I mean, i feel he did his best, you could notice he was really always on Lan Zhan's side but he still was too lukewarm. Probably what make him fall for Guang Yao's lies. It was heartbreaking watching him the last episodes, he really was betrayed the most.
I will stop here because i could talk forever about this one (Shoutout to my girl @marina who is the one that had to endure my rants).
I will recommend it? No 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Jokes asides, yes. If you had any doubt of what to watch and never saw this one, go running to it please is super worth it.

The Untamed has really opened my views on historical Dramas. This is the first one I completed with out hesitating. I did start Ashes of Love and many others - had to drop it. What can I say - I am on depression after completing and I will not regret watching it. I wondered why this Drama was being so hyped, but once I finished the first 3 episodes the picture came clear. "I was addicted to it" Let me write up my view on Untamed.
Story : The concept was excellent. I am surprised, they managed to build up the story plot in 50 episodes. Wish they could have made it more as I heard that the novel was more in detail. But still they managed to express it well. There were scenes I laughed, where I cried, where i felt betrayed. Shhh, (I even cried for the villian). The Bromance role was executed very well by the two leads. Please note - this is not a BL drama and am truly happy for it. So if your expecting for some small BL screens please dont be dissapointed as there are none. Usually I am one of those person who have no clue in whats happening in Chinese historical Dramas even if am halfway thru, but for this Drama i could clearly understand what was happening in each and every episode. Justice was made to this story and all actors/actress did their part well. My dear MDL people, you will not regret watching this drama. This drama questioned me that not all good deeds can be done in a righteous way. Sometime we need to turn a blind eye to get things achieved.
Music : Amazing ost, i have downloaded all the tracks. :)

Captivating and Engaging!!
I’m not usually one for subtitles, but for The Untamed, I gladly made an exception. And I’m so glad I did. This was one of the best movies I’ve seen, delivering a captivating, engaging, and easy-to-follow storyline. The film’s true magic lies in its characters, masterfully brought to life by Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. Their performances were nothing short of mesmerizing, making it impossible not to fall in love with both their characters and them as actors. The emotional depth they brought to their roles made certain scenes gut-wrenching—you’ll need to brace yourself for moments that will have you crying, screaming, and clutching your heart.
I sincerely hope for a sequel. A continuation of this story would be a dream come true, allowing us to delve even further into the world and relationships that made this film so unforgettable. And wouldn’t it be amazing to see The Untamed adapted into an English-language version? It would introduce this masterpiece to an even wider audience.
Whether you’re a fantasy, drama, or beautifully crafted storytelling fan, The Untamed is a must-watch.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful
Have you ever seen a series that is so well praised, and it makes you think that it is most likely overrated, so you tend to ignore it, believing it to be overrated? This was me before getting sucked into the world of MDZ without return. This review is for the user who is scrolling through every comment and review to find a reason to convince them that this drama is worth their time. If you're thinking to yourself ''is this really as good as people make it out to be?'' or ''what makes it so special?'' I will try to answer to these to the best of my ability.
Before I get to explain why this is worth one's time, I I am starting off by saying that the production quality is low, they were on a budget and it shows. The costumes and wigs felt like a cheap attempt at cosplaying, the CGI was bad ( we don't talk about the dog scene in prison, if you know you know) and that can interrupt with the watching experience, as it makes the setting less immersive. Nevertheless, being someone who grew up with shows like BBC Merlin, and Xena the warrior princess, I got used to the quality soon. Besides, the storytelling is so impactful that makes you overlook the production and see it as part of the overall experience.
Concerning the acting, it added to that feeling I mentioned above about the story's flow being interrupted due to the quality, since at first I found it weak and lacking, giving the impression that the actors struggled in certain scenes to convey the emotions those said scenes required them to.However, the acting significantly improved and now I can not imagine any character being portrayed by any other actor. They all eventually embraced fully their characters and brought them to life. Not to mention the amazing chemistry between the leads that made the overall watching experience even more exceptional. Maybe the initial problem with the acting is linked to the directing, as it felt awkward to me at moments, and as a result, it affected the acting in the first few episodes.
Now back to the questions. ''What makes this drama so good?'' I hear you ask.
The storytelling. The untamed/MDZ is a compelling story with an exciting setting, an engaging plot and memorable characters combined together in a tale that ties together mystery, romance, ,supernatural, fantasy and adventure, offering a perfectly balanced narrative that is hard not to get drawn to. A story can be considered good when it knows how to develop individually elements like the plot, the setting and the characters ,which when they are brought together they create what we call a masterpiece. A fantasy setting with nuanced and complex characters in a mystery plot are the recipe to a captivating story ,and this drama is perfectly good at capturing its audience. Its pacing allows the viewer to get immersed into the world of the characters, developing an emotional connection to them and digesting easily the information that is provided about the word-building.
The show masterfully blends together themes of loss, betrayal, war, grief, change and explores how different people are affected by certain circumstances they found themselves in, giving depth to the story which makes it leave a lasting impact. The untamed is in short a masterfully done story that it evokes strong emotions to which the performance and the chemistry of the actors contributes to, leaving a strong impression on the viewer. It has the ability to make you get lost in it, making you ask for more. I recommend this drama to anyone looking for a well balanced story which incorporates so many themes into one memorable epic tale.
Now you might be wondering why I gave it a 9 and not a rating of 10 if it is such a well made drama. My issues lie with the censorship that took away from an beautiful romance, yet the bond between the mcs is so strong that even censorship is not able erase it. Moreover, I am bitter that such an amazing story did not get the high quality production it deserved (the fighting scenes and those pirouettes in the air during battles made me lose focus). Overlooking these details, the drama is a masterpiece.

The Must-See Wuxia avec Xiao Zhan ❤❤❤ et Wang Yi Bo ❤❤❤
I hesitated for a long time to watch this drama, yet highly recommended, because I'm not a BL fan. But I ended up immersing myself in it and I do not regret this choice. It really is The Must-See Wuxia with Xiao Zhan ❤❤❤ and Wang Yi Bo ❤❤❤.PLOT:
Great epic (50 episodes) of struggle between Good and Evil (sects of immortals / martial arts + cable fights of all kinds).
Meeting, alliance and super bromance between Wei WuXian (from a spiritual sect - big family with powers & rules) and Lan Zhan (from the sect of Lightbearers, very strict more than 3000 rules:). They investigate strange events, fight together against evils & ghost puppets, try to thwart the plans of several villains who want Yin Metal & the Tiger seal to have absolute power.
PROS:
+ no explicit BL (like the novel) but a palpable chemistry in the CL, with adorable Xiao Zhan, with a cute smile, as mischievous and mischievous Wei Wuxian.
+ Super OST, epic, perfectly adapted to the emotions (especially the duet of the ending song with Xiao Zhang and Yi Bo)
+ Excellent actors, all of them, even the most annoying ones (whom we hate with all our hearts :)
+ Excellent special effects
+ Very successful fight scenes
+ costumes & make-up at the Top
+ beautiful scenery & landscapes
CONS:
- Complex story & characters (a bit hard to get into).
=> MASTERPIECE, A must see for the quality of the cinematography, but especially for the 2 TOP leads!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PLOT:
+ costumes & make-up au Top
+ magnifiques décors & paysages
CONS:
- Histoire & personnages complexes (1 peu dur de rentrer dedans).
=> MASTERPIECE, A ne pas rater pour la qualité de la cinématographie, mais surtout pour les 2 leads TOP !!
