Slowly went downhill
This story had such a great start. I enjoyed the beginning of the story, the way she time traveled and how she got into the palace. I liked how our MCs bickered once she arrived in the past and their dynamic. But once she got married to him, her character completely went cold turkey and went bland?? She still defended her loved ones but it was so 2d that I can't even really tell you much about her as a person outside of her loved ones.I personally enjoyed the dynamics of the brotherhood between thirteenth, fourteenth and fourth brothers. The idea of your blood brother getting along with another kid your age but not liking you, that other kid who turns out to be your biggest competition in everything ... they did a good job in how at the end they admit to each other how much they respect each other. We did not get to see much of the thirteenth brother's playfulness once they married which makes sense since he matures but it was also very minimal with his wife, which was sad. I felt that there was a lot more depth in Fourteenth brother than in any of the other two and I enjoyed his story the best.
I did not like how second female lead seemed to be able to do anything she wanted with no repercussion's, how our FML mellowed out and the direction the drama took in the second half.

I haven't watched these type of Chinese historical drama, so i really like this drama, kinda fresh and new story for me, so i like the plot.
The first thing is the ost, which are great, it has three songs and i love the opening a lot, ending also and the male lead song.
Second- is the male lead, it's a historical drama, but still his personality was really enjoyable, he was funny, smart, understandable, playful, caring and loving not only towards female lead but also towards his brother, positive, calm, etc and doesn't have others main leads characterstics like forcing, stalking, jealousy, possessiveness on female lead. He is really one of rare ml exists in drama world.
Fl- i have love-hate relationship with fl, sometimes i found her bit annoying but sometimes really proud of her, to be honest whoever cast the actress has done a great work with casting her and other characters.
I have read other reviews, it's would be good drama to watch if, you wouldn't have watched a drama which has time travelling in past but if you have, it might be little boring or repeatating.
Negatives
Ost - are used a bit much, so it's annoying.
Plothole - there are few plot whole and i don't wanna spoil people, so
Editing is not good, but i think the production would be low so understandable.

A Mid-Tier Drama I Didn't Mind Watching
I watched this well before I started this group and long before I began documenting reviews after watching. Because of that, this review is based solely on my memory from nearly six years ago. That said, I remember enjoying this series, though I didn’t love it or every sequence, which is why it's placed in a mid-range rating. I enjoyed the storyline, especially since transmigration stories were still very new to me at the time. However, I also remember some pacing issues that occasionally made it difficult to stay fully engaged. And while I have a general positive impression of the drama, many of the specific details weren’t especially memorable to me.
One thing I always consider with any series though is if it was worth the watch. A series can be an alright experience overall and still deliver something meaningful by the end. Although I don't know how I would feel in 2026 having watched so many other great dramas, this was a worthwhile experience in 2020.

Abysmal plot; Good cast
Writer chew more than she could handle. There were two distinct parts of the story: fantasy romance of 2 realms and palace drama. From the moment she decides to mix the two that's where disaster starts to brew. The transition from fantasy part to just historical palace defies a lot of logic. There were gigantic plotholes in how ML goes to present, how they seesaw between they can and cannot touch each other, how someone else could hear ML, how if he sleeps he can choose not to dream of her of which he would enter her realm. And then how wishing on a special lunar phenomena transports her to the past in time to see another female of the same face passing away. And she conveniently assumes her identity. The amnesia bit was ( ༎ຶ ༎ຶ ).. All this gave me a headache in digesting and then choosing to suspend the logic thinking part of my brain to continue watching.
My biggest issue was how it then became a solidly palace drama full of scheming females and inciting unrest in the backpalace and discord among the princes. Worst of the lot is Ming Hui who has a huge grudge against Ming Wei of which Xiao Wei of present shares the same face. This palace bit starts from about 1/3 in to the drama and lasted til ep 39. So I'm telling you if you dislike palace politics like me it means a lot of skipping of scenes.
As to why i still gave a solid 7.0 scoring despite my huge grievances with the drama. Its because of the cast. Both Li Lan Di and Wang An Yu are super young but sparkling in this drama. They deliver depth where possible and their banter were pleasantly cute and sweet. There's that good push pull, action reaction when you get a CP with chemistry. Its only the plot problems that cause IQ cells of Xiao Wei to dwindle when she went back into history. The last 20minutes also gave the show some bonus points.
I wouldnt recommend this drama. I started it when going through Li Lan di's pastwork and decided to give it a go. It doesnt sticks with you like Scarlet Heart does and i dont think its fair to compare.

Frustrating
The story started off well enough, then started going downhill. The FL sister was just too much. it become so much with her hatred and seeming that I had to skip 15 episodes to get to the end, where bad guys didn’t get the end they deserved and main couple got a total BS ending. I find dramas where the villains are smarter than the leads too frustrating to watch and for me that was the case in this drama. Was this review helpful to you?
A Journey Through Time, Love, and Destiny
Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty is a beautiful blend of romance, historical intrigue, and fantasy that keeps you emotionally invested from beginning to end. What starts as a modern woman's mysterious journey into the Qing Dynasty gradually transforms into a story about destiny, sacrifice, and the choices that shape our lives. The female lead grows from someone simply trying to survive into a strong, compassionate woman whose emotions feel genuine throughout the series. Watching her navigate palace politics, unexpected friendships, and heartbreaking love makes her journey both inspiring and painful.
The male lead delivers a memorable performance, balancing power, vulnerability, and unwavering devotion. His chemistry with the female lead is natural, making every quiet conversation, shared glance, and emotional reunion feel meaningful. Their relationship develops through trust and sacrifice rather than simple attraction, giving the romance real depth.
The Qing Dynasty setting is one of the drama's greatest strengths. The elegant costumes, palace architecture, traditional customs, and political conflicts create a rich atmosphere that pulls viewers into another era. While the story moves at a deliberate pace, it rewards patient viewers with emotional character development and powerful moments that linger long after the final episode.
Although the ending leaves viewers with mixed emotions, it fits the drama's central themes of fate, time, and enduring love. *Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty* is not simply a time-travel romance—it is a heartfelt story about finding where you truly belong, even when history itself stands in your way.

So Much Wasted Potential
The Good:-Wormhole plot point
- Time traveling desk + prince, but he's always asleep when it happens which is... a bit strange, because then the wormhole theory doesn't actually work. Just make the desk inside the wormhole and then he gets transported with the desk, or what was the point of having the desk transport in the first place?
- Reference to Scarlet Heart\ them watching Scarlet Heart.
- Lantern being connected to the wormhole. Beautiful lantern with original illustrations.
The Bad
- Pretty much everything else.
-FL never matures like in Scarlet Heart. She stays the same.
- Acting all around is OK. Main characters seem to be made up of newbies out of theatre school. No great performances, except the emperor who was excellent.
-CGI animals were incredibly cringe. Not as cringe as watching grown men get swatted by a CGI bear, but pretty close.
- Fight scenes were incredibly fake looking and cringeworthy.
- Characters were all incredibly dumb.
In Conclusion:
This could have been an awesome homage to Scarlet Heart. It started off with the idea of a love that spans 300 years, but Scarlet Heart went deeper than that. It was about human relationships and how there are different ways of looking at them, and about different ways of loving someone and how you can love someone completely but their dark side can ruin you. Anyway, Dreaming Back to the Qing is a superficial drama with no big ideas to it. The FL was likeable enough, but she remained as superficial as the drama itself.

Why did I let this go?
Easy, because 14th prince deserves better. The character of 14th prince is written very well. From an ice-cold-don't-care facade to a man who learn to fall in love however with his brother's wife. He redeem his self many times that you can't help but empathized with his character. For me, he really stolen the show and it really made me mad for him to be partnered to a woman who has no principle and conscience. Even if at the end she will changed for the best, the relationship of MingHui and 14thprince (YingTi) is not destined to begin with. HE DESERVES BETTER!!!!Was this review helpful to you?
Please watch if you want to but -
Giving 5 for story because some of the things are just repetitive. Like for example, the negative characters plotting against the main leads, the court issues and etc. It is just going on and on .. when you think this might be the end, there's another scheme being played. The chemistry is okay. Sometimes you wish to slap the shit out of FL but it is just how character is. Ending is let's say, justified enough.
Music is good, cast is pretty good. Talking about cast, the female negative has pulled it off extremely well.
It's pretty entertaining but i am not gonna lie i wanted to skip many episodes in the middle cause it bored me.
Well, every audience has their own preferences so many may really like it.
For me, it is just so so.

FAST ROMANCE
start- plot was good, should've been a slow burn, it's fast romance which doesn't make sense and feels forced or random,ml from historical era time travel to future by dream
i do not like the ml character much, he is already confessing proposing by 2-4 eps ? and and FML likes him back ? you just met how come you like eachother already ? i don't like historical but try watching, this is too much old and historical you can tell by clothing, so I still watched seeing what happens so she starts missing him because he suddenly disappeared while talking and then she has time travelled into his place and she's happy there usually people want to go back but she has settled down... now i quit because it gets boring I like focus on main leads less on side characters so they have switched I'm only interested in romance I drop if they're not romance focused

I think that this drama isn't as bad as people say it is. I just think the beginning where they met is weird and it doesn't make sense. Like how a Qing Dynasty person would daydream and travel 300 years into the future and meet a girl and only the girl can see him. Isn't this weird, I would definitely be freaking out like I'd think i would have gone crazy. This isn't the most ideal time-travelling drama show but overall, I don't think this is a bad show: the cast is charming except for the 8,9,10 princes, the production is good, and the OST is ok as well. If you are picky and only like historical love drama then you should give this show a try. It may not be similar to Palace or Scarlet Heart but it's an interesting love drama. I just hope the ending isn't like Scarlet Heart :) Was this review helpful to you?
