Lousy Chase
I can't make anything out of this movie. Serial killers is just low-life butchers. He just wants to kill women. And police with proper high-tech Korean technology can catch a killer because our lousy serial killer threw 12 tons of evidence at the crime scene. It's like he doesn't care about anything because he himself called the police after committing murder. In the meaty part of the movie, both the killer and the brother had infinite chances to kill each other or the deaf girl. But they just threaten each other with knives. It's a mess. They're just trying to make the audience emotional by portraying meaningless scenes, which can't be performed when a serial killer is after you. Normal people seem to not understand anything; they just take anything at face value.

IT'S A MOVIE DUH??
This movie is really great. the plot is written very well. For those who said that this movie is unrealistic, how do you know it's not real? maybe some people has been through this situation where people don't hear what they say and make an assumption that the killer is somewhat your brother or father. and for the police who need to make decision whether his sister or that lady, if in real life the police also probably be scared and want to save both but who didn't want to save their own siblings. some even said that this movie is non-sense. OMG this is a freaking movie and even it's not happening to you, maybe it's already happened to everyone else. you don't know their stories. there's this one person said that the leading lady wasted so much time sign in front of people that can't understand signing and she could've just type in the phone. um excuse me, maybe she's VERYY scared.. do you think she's calm enough to take out her phone and type everything. and even said hopeless movie, hopeless cop, hopeless citizen !? YES THAT'S RIGHT BECAUSE THIS MOVIE WANT TO TEACH US IF YOU EVER SEE THIS SITUATION HAPPENS IN REAL LIFE, you should help that person. YOU GUYS THAT GIVE 1 STAR, IS TRULY DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THIS MOVIE. EVEN IF SOME SAID THERE'S NO MEANING, YOU NEED TO SEARCH BY YOURSELF THE MEANING !! try understand more. the frustration of the lady because she can't speak. the author shown a mean world so that we can take a lesson and don't be like them .. overall both chemistry is great and I hope they have romance drama together 🤞🏻😀Was this review helpful to you?
Sensory Suspense: Non-Stop Action and Nail-Biting Thriller
This film’s strength lies in its ability to make the viewers empathize with the main character who, as a deaf woman, must overcome many obstacles in her everyday life. This greatly enhances the nail-biting atmosphere. Certain scenes notably cut off the sound completely, making the viewers feel as though they were in her shoes; not just showing, but making us feel the same vulnerability and frustration as Kyeong Mi.The use of sensory suspense coupled with the various turns of events fully captivates the viewer’s attention, and the different intertwined narratives and non-stop action made the movie fly by.
This is a great film not only for people who love thrillers, but also for anyone wanting to dip their toes in this genre.
Overall: 4.5/5
Quality: 3.5/5
Enjoyability: 5/5

A suspenseful thriller that starts strong but loses steam in an endless cycle of chase and escape.
Midnight is proof that sometimes, survival isn’t just about skill—it’s about sheer, unexplainable luck.Disclaimer: This review is 100% my opinion — I’m not here to hate, just to share my thoughts! Also, SPOILERS AHEAD, so proceed with caution if you haven’t watched yet. Watch it, come back and let’s see if you agree. Let’s keep the discussion respectful and fun! 💕
The Good
Perfect Casting Across the Board
The casting for this film was spot-on. Everyone played their role so convincingly that it elevated the entire experience. You don’t realize how much great casting impacts a movie until you find yourself bumping the rating up just because the actors got it.
Kept You on Edge… At Least at the Start
The beginning really knew how to keep you anxious. That entire first chase sequence had me gripping my seat. Every time he nearly caught her, I found myself holding my breath. It felt chaotic in the best way, like anything could happen next.
Her Deafness Was a Game-Changer
Kyung Mi’s deafness made the entire experience ten times more nerve-wracking. The way the film muted the audio at times, letting us feel her disorientation, was so well done.
The Bad
The Cat and Mouse Game That Never Ended
At first, the chase between Kyung Mi and Do Shik was gripping, keeping the tension high and the stakes intense. But as the movie went on, it became painfully repetitive. The cycle of her running, him catching her, hesitating for no clear reason, and her narrowly escaping played out over and over again. How is he always just a second too late? Is it sheer luck? The suspense turned into frustration, and by the end, I was more over-it than anxious.
Frustrating Moments of Plot Convenience
This ties directly into the endless chase loops, but the level of plot convenience in this film was wild. Jong Tak, for example, felt like one of the most useless characters second only to the police. He spent most of his screen time either running in the wrong direction or getting beat up. And don’t even get me started on the scene where Do Shik traps Kyung Mi under a chair only for her to throw sand in his face, which sends him flailing on the ground long enough for her to break free. I ask this again: how is it that he had already killed multiple people, yet Kyung Mi, who couldn’t speak or hear, managed to outsmart and evade him time and time again? It was hard to take him seriously when he kept fumbling like this.
Final Thoughts
On first watch, this movie was solid. I even gave it an 8 out of 10. Once I rewatched it, the flaws became glaringly obvious. Things that had slipped past me the first time now stood out like neon signs. There were way too many moments when she escaped when she absolutely shouldn’t have, and a whole lot of scenes that felt like filler. While I still appreciated the tension and the strong acting, the endless chase sequences felt way more repetitive the second time around.
Basically, enjoy the suspense while it lasts, because once you notice the plot holes, police incompetence, and absurd chase sequences, there’s no going back.

This one got mixed reviews from a lot of people, what did you think when you first watched? Was it as interesting as I first thought it was?

The characters I loved. The FL diverting the killer's attention away from his other victim. The mother wanting to find her daughter. The brother desperate to find his sister.
But this also shows how the police dismissed those with disabilities as he struggled to communicate.

I liked the movie a lot and now I will explain why.
I see many people frustrated because people around didn't help the girl. Well there are several points to be clarified: First of all, in South-Korea most people don't help those in trouble on the street, because they often get blamed. There have been many cases of people who stopped to help those in distress and found themselves being charged because they were believed to be the culprits. And yes, people definitely saw the scared girl or the man covered in blood, however I repeat that so many people try to mind their own business so they don't get into trouble. It's frustrating I know and that's exactly why I think this film was a complaint to how people behave in these cases.
Second of all, it exists the bystander effect, also referred to as bystander apathy or the witness effect: this is a phenomenon in social psychology that refers to cases where individuals offer no help to a person in distress, in an emergency situation, when other people are also present. The probability of intervention is inversely related to the number of onlookers. In other words, the greater the number of bystanders, the lower the probability that any of them will render help. Several variables are involved in determining the bystander effect. They include ambiguity, social cohesion and diffusion of responsibility. This does not make us bad people; simply when certain incidents occur, we are inclined to see what others do before we intervene.
Then the fact that she couldn't speak is actually a point against her. Try to think about who the killers are: they are deeply disturbed, narcissistic and manipulative people. The fact that she was deaf and unable to speak properly made it all the more amusing for him: She was trying to communicate, but no one understood her; he was elated, especially because then he could be an actor like he has never been before. That's why I find the film very realistic and especially provocative. I still break a lance in favor of those who criticize the film, because indeed the policemen were not that smart.
As for "the cat-to-mouse chase", I didn't find it wrong. The girl several times was caught by the killer, however, one thing that stood out from the beginning was that she was smart. Plus unlike the victims, she knew about him and in fact he never managed to sneak up on her except once. I don't know what to add except that probably in her situation I would not have known what to do and would have been killed instantly. Plus many choices she made were to try to protect her mother.
As for the character who was the brother of one of the victims, I basically understand and forgive him... Would you sacrifice your sister to protect a stranger or would you sacrifice a stranger to save your sister? It ain't so easy for anyone. Clearly the killer was lying, but when you are desperate and you love someone so much, what chance do you actually have? And even if he caught him, he already knew that he would never reveal to him where his sister was.
The music was undoubtedly flawless. I madly loved the "silent moments" and when suddenly something would pop out, because for a few seconds it was like I was living in the girl's shoes.
In conclusion, i must have a sort of trauma, 'cause pussy was clenching through out the whole movie, no lie.
They should stop casting hot actors as psychopaths. I can't handle it, but at the same time i don't mind *COUGH*

2nd half: Thriller
Ending: Happy
Recommendation: Watch it
This was the movie that made me discover Jin Ki-joo and turned me into a fan and led me to watching her other dramas. Her acting skills here portrayed that she has the skill and ability to mingle with the best. It's also nice to see a cameo/supporting role for Kim Hye-yoon! This is one of those rollercoaster rides that make you hold into your sights because it's going to be thrilling!

the characters in this were really well developed, Kyung Mi was a normal fragile girl next door but that didn't mean she was not capable.she was smart, she was scared and she was so sweet hearted honestly she was too precious!
Kyung Mi's mom was also smart, honestly most movies make the female characters too naive or dumb and easily fooled but both mother and daughter used their brains and they communicated.
there were small details in their relationship that made them so endearing and believable, like the mom pulling Kyung Mi behind her as if that tiny fragile older lady can "shield" her taller youthful daughter, but it was such a mom thing to do
Do Shik as a psychopath was so captivating, psychopath's lie and he did it so well, like the way he switched characters to fit the scenarios and make the public believe him and even get away with the murder he reported, that was a great move
it also made his downfall even more satisfying.
Jong Tak and his sister felt underdeveloped, tbh even that full long running sequence mixed with him getting fooled and leaving Kyung Mi the 1st time made me reduce my points because that was obviously a ploy for the length of the movie
it's not bad, like the movie happens in "one night", if not even around 4 hours. Kyung Mi and her mom met, the psychopath came in, they went to the station, he followed them home at around 12am
the saddest part was those army kids.. if you see a scared girl, you don't return her to the guy that's following her, even if he played it well and pretended to be her worried brother. heck I've helped lost kids at the mall find their parents and I still wait and check if that's their parents even if just by action, I'm not anticipating a kidnapping but when someone cries and can't talk, you need to observe the situation
I also loved those danger poles, I hope those are real, I've never seen a movie brave enough to add that especially since it can "solve" the chase. though in this case it added depth to the struggles of people with hearing impairment.
though I didn't like how people almost treated her like she's dumb or like a kid. she just couldn't hear or talk, there was no problems with her coherent thoughts
though it also does add the depth of how people treat "different" people
as for the "music" I really loved the times they showed how the world "looked" like from her silent pov, that was a great touch and overall I think the director used the deaf part to enhance the story, and not made it an excuse for the hero to fall. I also liked how they had their phones with them

Best Korean thriller, period.
Nerve racking, not even a second wasted. This movie is the best Korean thriller. The acting from FL and ML is top notch. They get into the skin of their characters. You feel for the FL, root for her, and go to this roller coaster ride. What happens next? That’s the question in your head for the entire movies runtime. There is a good emotional connect between FL and her mom too. This is a masterpiece. Nowadays in the name of thrillers I see lot of Korean movies selling sex and some half assed story. Midnight is however no Nonsense thriller. This deserves a whole hearted 10/10. MDL viewers decided to park this in 8-9 category I guess. Some ranting
There are lot of Korean thrillers that people are crazy about. When going through YouTube comments section, I found people going crazy over Old Boy, handmaiden claiming them to be epic thrillers. My opinion, Old boy and Handmaiden are bull shit in the context of thriller genre. Midnight however is a masterpiece in the thriller genre.

A good thriller for thriller enjoyers (like me)
You must’ve heard the phrase “being on the edge of the seat.” That’s exactly what this movie made me do. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie. The first time chills went down my spine was when the FL got in her car to run away from Do-Shik and he was already sitting in her car. Damn.Kyung-Mi was very smart. Most importantly she was good at catching up. When the first time she asked the public to help her, they didn’t because she had a knife in her hand and Do-Shik didn’t. She learnt from this. She learnt that people believe what they see. So the next time they encountered e/o in public, she injured herself and made it look like Do-Shik did it and this time “people believe what they see” worked in her favor. My favorite part in the whole movie.
Lastly, the acting was 10/10. And the situations were well thought. The scene where Kyung-Mi felt trapped and had no choice but to beg for mercy in front of the psychopath, mind-blowing. It was very relatable with a very deep meaning. Anyone with no other choice would get on his knees to save himself. There’s a hindi proverb that goes “मरता क्या न करता” lit; “a person who’s dying would do anything.” Both the leads did an amazing job portraying their characters. Throughout the whole movie it felt like those actors were really their respective characters (which, obviously, is false. Wi Ha-Joon isn’t a psychopath lmao).
Thanks for reading my review!

What a ride!
This movie is very fast phased! Everything happened very fast, running and chasing each other for a long time, plus will keep you on edge.I just find some scenes frustrating, and wanted to smack the heads of the people who were there on the street. Jeez!!!! But over all, it it is worth your time to watch it as the characters are all great, from Jin Ki Joo acting as a person with disability to Wi Ha Joon's version of a psycho killer.
I am just simply amaze how fit and healthy they are! That was exhausting to watch, the chasing part!
