-WARNING-
There is A LOT of blood filled, cruel and violent scenes in the film!
This movie is filled with action from the beginning until the very end. And our handsome and righteous hero, played by Won Bin, is doing some serious ass kicking in each and every second scene and keeps astonishing the viewers with his epic moves.
The actors are awesome and I am especially impressed by the actress playing the little girl who acted out her character very well. Furthermore, Won Bin is doing a great job as well and impresses me with looking ever so handsome no matter what feeling he expresses to the audience. No doubt, he's one of my favourite actors.
The plot is very intriguing and it makes you stay alert until the credits are shown. It involves both drugs and illegal trades of other... products... And you can never completely relax while watching it since there's always something going on and you can always tell that Won Bin can NOT screw this up, or he'll be fucked...
For those who like it; the fighting scenes are extremely well done and the cruelty is on its' top level.
Even though this was a serious movie I find it extremely funny at times and I really appreciate the jokes and faces that are smoothly added to the story.
The music was well timed and followed the plot well, though it was a bit predictable and the ending song can be questioned. I didn't notice this until the second time I watched it so I don't think you should let it stop you from watching it though.
I recommend it to anyone who enjos a good action movie with an interesting plot!

Re-watch Value: Slim, I don't think I will be re-watching this movie - just b/c it's a little hard to handle with all the issues going on - can kinda give me the creeps about people in this world - so many sick and twisted people....

Heart-warming and with a vengeance
I could tell this was a good movie — the relationship between the pawn shop man and the little girl were undoubtedly the best part of this movie and I kind of wish we had more of their scenes. The fight scenes are cool and overall this is just a really satisfying vengeance movie.Unfortunately, however, something just didn't click with me when it came to the villains. I've seen plenty of organ donation villains in Korean movies and just kind of felt meh about the ones in this movie — other than the scenes with the kids, I felt like the villains weren't very scary and were almost cartoonish at times, so I'm not really sure if I felt the high stakes there.
Overall still a really good watch esp. if you're in the mood for the revenge genre!

✒ ☠ Pawnshop Ghost & Garbage Girl: Dark Knight On Fire ❣ °8.9° °outstanding°
He came outta nowhere… TMFN opens to a 2 month police sting in which only the police get stung.Won Bin (Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War) is Cha Tae-Sik, the “Pawnshop Ghost”. He lost a wife and child. A child ended up finding him. Kim Sae-Ron (Heaven's Garden, Bloodhounds) portrays Jung So-Mi, the child - Garbage Girl. She's yet another brilliant K🇰🇷kid actor. Her performance is world-class. We are treated to some truly scary psycho bad guys, regular Joe cops, and some Kpop hairdos. Screenwriter & director, Lee Jung Beom, also brought us Samjin Company English Class.
TMFN is a 2010, 119 min release that is rated 90 on AWiki / 💯 on RT. My son has only seen a couple Kdramas. He joked in the beginning of this show that many Korean actors in this film look like Michael Jackson - or perhaps MJ was trying to look Korean? (Korea does have the most beautiful male leads in the world, imo). He quickly settled into the story, though, as the film is fantastic.
So-Mi has a mom who is only 25% there. Most of the time, she's turning tricks and taking drugs. So the little girl often visits the ghost, eh, /guy/ at the pawn shop. He doesn't talk much, and he doesn't seem overly friendly, but she knows he's decent. He frequently feeds her and buys all of the random junk that she sells him. So-Mi's mom doesn't trust him, though. It's obvious that there's something a little different about him.
That police sting? Just when the police were on the brink of making a huge arrest, a rogue criminal element came in and took everything from both parties, the police and the target of their criminal investigation. These criminals got away with lots of drugs and ALL the money. Now, everyone's after them. The police and the jopok (mafia).
So-Mi's mom is caught up in the net and dies while she's being questioned by jopok thugs. They haul off So-Mi to child traffickers. It's heart😳breaking. All of these kids are put to work. Some are sold. Some of them are used to harvest organs. Stories like this are worldwide. Millions of children go missing every year. It looks like this all really goes on. Pause your busy life for a moment and reflect on that…
Tae-Sik learns what's happened to So-Mi and he hits the trail to find her and bring her back. From this point, the film is reminiscent of the excellent movie, Man on fire, starring Denzel Washington. The bad guys have no idea who's coming for them. We're all gonna find out.
The craftsmanship is excellent. Film is a visual medium, and this is a man, and a film, of few words. The story is mostly told visually. You'll have to put down your phone! When he agrees to “run an errand”, things suddenly take on a blue glow / turn a neon blue outside. The director uses a blue filter over some scenes. The color blue is associated with trust, dependability, and stability in Korea. The color palette is, otherwise, heavy industrial grey, which suits the subject matter. Handheld camera work in the action scenes builds tension and excitement. We follow him right through a 2nd storey window down to the street. Hold onto your hat!
TMFN is the perfect Friday night flick. It's inspiring, scary, exciting, and fulfilling. It's also an excellent choice as an introduction to 🇰🇷Korean programming for your unexposed friends and family.
As the film ends, the sun is coming up in Seoul🌇. Warm light bathes the screen. Strength lends strength. So-Mi will live, and So-Mi's life will never be the same.

Just for the contrast, take any Hollywood action blockbuster movie, it has a lot of revenge plot as a driving force. It is always some retired awesome dude that everyone feared, but now he's out of the picture, but one day something happens and this something wakes them up from their dormant state. Just an example, even the recent 'The Killer' has an attacked girfriend. Or we all know how John Wick starts.
'The Man from Nowhere' also has an awesome retired nobody, but to make him move you had to take the girl. And saving this girl becomes the greatest motivation, despite the obstacles, despite the consequences.
Story. You don't need to invent anything profound. Sometimes a good story is a simple story and I consider the story of this movie quite simple. It has a simple chain of actions and consequences, which slowly leads us to the final goal. But it still doesn't lack in emotions it evokes in you. It doesn't show much drama, there's no hysteria and no shouting and pointing to look at some horrid things, but your heart is still filled with anger, sadness and helplessness knowing that somewhere, something similar might have happened to other children.
Acting. We omit the part where it is obviously impossible for a kid to act without flaws, but the overall cast did a great job. And you know they did, because otherwise you wouldn't be so impressed. I remember watching it for the first time and later seeing some press releases and Won Bin really was the man of that time. Him and Kim Sae Ron appearing, I still remember how she wore those cute dresses. But despite the glamoure Won Bin chose quite low-key path and also started a family and I honestly wish him all the best.
OST. I want to be dramatic for a second and say - I'll slap anyone who dares to say anything about the OST. Haha kidding, but the soundtrack is great, let's agree to it and also I really fell in love with the finale theme when I first heard it, it was so unique.
At that time there was definitely a considerable amount of hype around this movie, but I find that it was deserved. Although I re-watched it only a number of times, but in my list that's an achievement. You can still watch it and it's still a great movie, it aged well.

My First Korean Movie

The Action Film That Hits You Right in the Heart
Wow. What a ride. This movie had me hooked from start to finish. It’s dark, emotional, and seriously intense — the kind of film that stays with you long after it ends. Won Bin absolutely *nailed* his role as Cha Tae-sik. He barely talks, but somehow you feel every bit of his pain and anger. His quiet, cold exterior hides so much heartbreak, and when the story starts to unfold, you really get why he’s the way he is.
The bond between him and little So-mi was the heart of the whole movie. It wasn’t overdone or cheesy — it just felt real. Watching him risk everything for her was both heartbreaking and beautiful. Kim Sae-ron was incredible too; for someone so young, she delivered such a powerful performance.
The action scenes? Brutal but amazing. So well done — sharp, fast, and not over the top. I loved that the movie didn’t rely just on the action — it actually had *feeling*. The ending left me emotional but satisfied.
Won Bin was born for this role.
Emotional, brutal, and unforgettable

amazing acting and a good action movie
the acting was amazing from the ML to the child. The child actress surprised me. I love the action and fighting sequences. Be aware, a lot of blood. Man was bad ass. It’s a lot of blood and fights, but also a lot of emotional scenes.
- Like before she was kidnapped, when she was talking the him in the alley, about her mom and other things. My eyes got teary.
- Also, when we saw the accident of his wife death, that was so heartbreaking. It was horrible when we saw the blood running out the car…. Also,
- when the doctor said her mom was dead, the villain face said everything. His eyes were expressive, I just knew he wouldn’t let the doctor cut her eyes out. ML face was also heartbreaking when he thought she was dead.
- their reunion ❤️😭😭
- the ending scene, I was cry so bad.
I absolutely love the bond between him and the child
The mom’s death and the poor kids, that was hard to watch too.
Overall I think it’s a great movie. Good acting, fighting scenes and still really emotional
I recommend this movie

I have seen movies with the same content but this one was my favorite for sure.
they were a lot of things that I just loved about "the man from nowhere :
1.acting: was absolutely mesmerizing from start to end I was captured with "Won Bin" acting it was spot on and even beyond.
2.music: very well fitted with scenes and the OST "DEAR" was very meaningful and great.
3.Filming: this one I can't even describe it was fantastic.
the only thing that I regret about this movie is why the hell I didn't watch it sooner.

Graphic
If you can't handle some drug use and hardcore violence and gore this is NOT the movie for you. If you enjoy epic fight scenes this will be right up your alley. Movies like this never fail to impress me! It might make you cringe a bit but it's worth it. It had an amazing plot with a tragic past. I enjoyed every minute of it and before I realized it, it was over. I would definitely re-watch if I'm feeling hardcore. lol I love that this movie will leave you for yourself to decide if it was Revenge or Justice. Was this review helpful to you?
