A very few movies have surprised me and surpased my expectations: this is one of them.
The story might not be something 100% good (notice that my 9 ate the story is actually a 9.5, I chouse to give it a 9 just for the fact that it's not 100% new) but the acting of the cast and the way the story envolves you... it's defenetly rewatch material.
I, personally, watched it 3 times already and I have the movie for... what... 4 months? Or is it 3?

THE ONES LIVING FOR TOMORROW GET F**KED BY THE ONES LIVING FOR TODAY
Since this movie has had a lot of reviews obviously, I would write something unconventional.Won Bin, I dunno why he halted his acting career, the man is so talented.
What an outstanding performance!
That child was magnificent, she even won an award for her performance.
Although the plot is conventional, the execution is gripping.
Each and every actor in this movie is phenomenal, leaves an impact, whether it's the gangsters or the protagonist, even the police officer played a great role.
All this can only be possible if the director is legendary.
By far this could've been his dream work.
The movie is well thought and executed, each and every scene is important along with the violence and profanity it showed, but also managed to focus on the human side of nature.
A child brings a lot of emotions especially when you see a cold guy like him in the movie.
Some people hate children, I've come across quite a few but then again they remind me of the essence of why a child is important, why childhood is important and moreover why being a child is important.
Each child is an enigma in itself.
As the movie says, just giving birth isn't parenting.
Children realize the parenting values towards anyone they can get the warmth and feeling from.
~ Special mention to the villains, Kim Hee Won and Kim Sung Oh.
Who knew these guys could play such an ultimate villain, I've only seen them in stupid roles in the dramas.
They were magnificent in the movie.
A scumbag of a villain is always the ones that look weak but can do the most heinous crimes possible.
Kudos to the director for finding such actors and making them execute their talent.
Kindness and Humanity go hand in hand with the dirty heinous part of the world .
The profanity of scenes in this movie is what makes it special, it was ugly indeed but you could see it through.
And believe that this exists but in the same world a love exists too.
Marvellous effort.
And who can forget the bass in Won Bin's voice? Top-Notch dialogue delivery.
Overall, this movie was such a great experience to have.
One of the best ways you could've spent your 2 hrs.

For John Wick fans
Well many might not agree with me but this movie was awesome. I would put it up there with John Wick. Seriously. The male character was unfeeling at first and at times it made me wonder why he was so hell bent on his mission. BUT it changes and I had a moment where I had to grab the tissues. It's so action packed. The fighting ranges from hand to hand combat to knives to guns. Kept me on the edge of my seat at all times.
BUT it's not for the faint hearted.
Kidnapping of children, drugs, human trafficking and more. There was also a lot of blood and gore.
The plot was dark really dark. This guy had no problem killing the bad guys in the most painful way possible. I had a few moments where I cringed at the bloodiness and violence. But it was a great movie.

Pawnshop Ghost & Garbage Girl: Dark Knight On Fire. °8.9° °outstanding °
He came outta nowhere… TMFN opens to a 2 month police sting in which only the police get stung.Won Bin (Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War) is Cha Tae-Sik, the “Pawnshop Ghost”. He lost a wife and child. A child ended up finding him. Kim Sae-Ron (Heaven's Garden, Bloodhounds) portrays Jung So-Mi, the child - Garbage Girl. She's yet another brilliant K-kid actor. Her performance is world-class. We are treated to some truly scary psycho bad guys, regular Joe cops, and some Kpop hairdos. Screenwriter & director, Lee Jung Beom, also brought us Samjin Company English Class.
TMFN is a 2010, 119 min release that is rated 90 on AWiki / 💯 on RT. My son has only seen a couple Kdramas. He joked in the beginning of this show that many Korean actors in this film look like Michael Jackson - or perhaps MJ was trying to look Korean? (Korea does have the most beautiful male leads in the world, imo). He quickly settled into the story, though, as the film is fantastic.
So-Mi has a mom who is only 25% there. Most of the time, she's turning tricks and taking drugs. So the little girl often visits the guy at the pawn shop. He doesn't talk much, and he doesn't seem overly friendly, but she knows he's decent. He frequently feeds her and buys all of the random junk that she sells him. So-Mi's mom doesn't trust him, though. It's obvious that there's something a little different about him.
That police sting? Just when the police were on the brink of making a huge arrest, a rogue criminal element came in and took everything from both parties, the police and the target of their investigation. These criminals got away with lots of drugs and ALL the money. Now, everyone's after them. The police and the jopok (mafia).
So-Mi's mom is caught up in the net and dies while she's being questioned by jopok thugs. They haul off So-Mi to child traffickers. It's heart-breaking. All of these kids are put to work. Some are sold. Some of them are used to harvest organs. Stories like this are worldwide. Millions of children go missing every year. It looks like this all really goes on.
Tae-Sik learns what's happened to So-Mi and he hits the trail to find her and bring her back. From this point, the film is reminiscent of the excellent movie, Man on fire, starring Denzel Washington. The bad guys have no idea who's coming for them. We're all gonna find out.
The craftsmanship is excellent. Film is a visual medium, and this is a man and a film of few words. The story is mostly told visually. You'll have to put down your phone! When he agrees to “run an errand”, things suddenly take on a blue glow / turn a neon blue outside. The director uses a blue filter over some scenes. The color blue is associated with trust, dependability, and stability in Korea. The color palette is, otherwise, heavy industrial grey. It suits the subject matter. Handheld camera work in the action scenes builds tension and excitement. We follow him right through a 2nd storey window down to the street. Hold onto your hat!
TMFN is the perfect Friday night flick. It's inspiring, scary, exciting, and fulfilling. It's an excellent choice as an introduction to Korean programming for your unexposed friends and family.
As the film ends, the sun is coming up in Seoul. Warm light bathes the screen. Strength lends strength. So-Mi's life will never be the same.

A must see
Wow, I never thought I would like an action movie with an overdose of brutal violence like that, but you have to give credits to a great story, and an amazing cast. The two leading characters, and the story are instrumental in making this movie worth watching indeed. Won Bin, how could he expresses a suppressed anger like that. You can't help but feel his emotions allover the place, even when he is keeping them inside, or act like he is. I wish that the movie would have tuned down the immense violence which was very disturbing, and if I may say, unnecessarily long. Would have loved to see more of the interaction between Won Bin Character and the young girl (actress, Saeron). The scenes between them were pure phenomenal acting, funny, emotional, and heartbreaking. And I would say for their final scene only, you can see this movie more than just once. It was much exhilarating to see Won Bin, at last, releases all his emotions with no hold. Great acting hands down for Won Bin, Saeron, all the villains, and the supporting cast. Was this review helpful to you?

A stunning movie that captured all sorts of emotions from the start to finish. I was impressed by the amount of gore included with this film, which is definitely not for the faint hearted. The film captured the best moments of humanity, as well as the worst. The film spent its beginning building up to the ending in a masterful way. The action scenes were a joy to watch. Won Bin and Kim Sae Ron had a great father-daughter dynamic, and both were splendid actors in their own rights. I nearly teared up at the bittersweet ending, something I rarely do for these type of movies. Was this review helpful to you?
