Just read the novel instead.

This movie has changed and disrespected the original source material to the point where it's completely unrecognizable, from the little details to the overall messages and symbolism that ORV tried to convey, everything had been completely butchered. As an adaptation, it fails in every aspect. As a movie, the cinematography is amateurish, the script sounds AI generated, the CGI is a joke, and some actors with major supporting roles are just completely sidelined for no particular reason; it's underwhelming, to say the least.

This isn't a matter of an "accurate adaptation" anymore. This is setting a precedence for future adaptations to completely mess up a beloved story by removing all the aspects that make it good in the first place. ORV isn't loved because it's a generic male power fantasy, it's loved because the story subverts this. By stripping away everything to adhere to the general audience's expectations, there won't be anything left to love. There is genuinely so many things wrong with this movie from the erasure of Korean history to even misogyny (which wouldn't be noticed if viewers don't know the original story).

ORV is a love letter for its readers, but this movie spat on it, tore it with a paper shredder, stomped on it repeatedly, burned it, and threw the ashes into the ocean.

It’s a total disaster

As a longtime fan of Omniscient Reader, I had hopes for this movie, but it really let me down. This movie was honestly painful to sit through. It completely disrespects the source material — major plot changes, wrong character portrayals, and decisions that make absolutely no sense if you know the original story. The creators clearly cared more about using big-name actors for hype than staying true to what made the novel great.

The pacing is chaotic, with too many plot holes and zero emotional buildup. It feels more like a cash-grab than a real adaptation. If you haven’t read the novel, you’ll be confused. If you have, you’ll just be angry. Nothing about this feels faithful, and calling it “creative liberty” is a joke.

Visually, it might look okay, but that’s about the only thing going for it. Everything else? A disaster.

DON'T WATCH THIS TRASH.

I say this as a fan of the novel. The authors of this adaptation DID NOTHING. Everything in this film is terrible - from the unnecessary changes of the director, to the work of the editor and other specialists. A request to the creators of the film - do not disgrace yourself and delete this from the Internet. Nobody liked this garbage, seriously.

it sucks

read the original novel or even the webtoon. don't watch this shit. make it flop let the director suffer for even trying to ruin it for the people who love orv.

dokja is a victim of bullying and violence and yet they painted him as a bully and a fucking murderer? seriously? if you didnt have time to read the novel then you should've just not made the damn movie. why is gilyoung a fucking toddler? why is jihye a grown as woman? why do they have guns? removing the abuse dokja faced, the pain he has suffered through just to cater to incels. removing SA faced by heewon, domestic violence faced by dokja and his mother and the whole coin farming part really tells us about your misogynist mindset. take this la and shove it up your ass you misogynist motherfucker.

Movie just made to "compete" against Solo Leveling's anime

As someone who read the novel, and was, in a way, saved by it, Orv holds a pretty important place in my life, which makes this live adaptation even more disappointing.

While at the very beginning, I was really disappointed when I saw who was going to act as Yoo Joonghyuk, one of the main protagonists, in this live adaptation, it seems like he is actually the best actor out of them all ?

Not only has the director butchered, spit, stomped, shat, burned the original story, but he took everything that made Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint so iconic and important in the eyes of the readers, and just swapped it out for some generic, stupid, male-main lead of any random isekai, and didn't even bother to try to do something decent with it. The main actors don't seem to understand even the most superficial things about their own characters. I'm not going to delve into how the use of gun is also going against what the author, SingSong, wrote in the novel, but damn the CGI was utterly trash too, but the script sounds AI made and has a few plot holes too, which makes the whole movie unbearable to watch.

Here's a few examples:

-Kim Dokja was a lonely reader who kept living for THIRTEEN YEARS just to be able to see the ending, even though TWS was literally the most boring novel in the world, so much that KDJ was the last and sole reader of the novel. It's explicitly written a the beginning of the novel that he was disappointed that the novel was ending but he was really grateful to the author tls123, and was very polite to them. SO WHY WOULD HE READ THE NOVEL FOR 13Y IF IT'S JUST TO TELL THE AUTHOR THAT IT WAS ASS. It doesn't seem like Kdj appreciated the novel at all ?

-Kim Dokja was, again, a very lonely guy who didn't have any friends, and he basically hated life smh. Anyway, he's not someone that really looked forward to living, and is a morally (very) gray character, which made him a lot more relatable that the typical mc. Why would he start to want to save the world ? Out of pure compassion ?? Compassion he doesn't have ??????

-KDJ has a few skills that are extremely important to the plot but they don't seem to exist (like omniscient readers viewpoint, yk the name of the WHOLE STORY)

-The name of the movie doesn't make any sense since kdj says he ISN'T a prophet in the novel

-Kdj straight up lies by saying he's a prophet (which he isn't btw, he's just a READER) FACED WITH A LIE DETECTOR

-Constellations weirdly enough don't exist so the whole plot can't actually be called an adaptation ?

-Butchered the characters of JHW, YSH and everyone basically.

-KDJ trying to save the character he hated the most in TWS and that he killed in the original novel lmfao ?

-Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk whole interactions, of a reader and his favorite protagonist, being weird, unnatural, unnecessarily homophobic (they're not gay, but you can feel that they REALLY wanted Kdj to be "straight")

-Missed the whole central point of the story of friendship

While the movie had an enormous budget, the results are more than disappointing, be it from the directing, the acting, the CGI and everything from start to end. The movie can only leave the readers upset after watching the movie, and the non-readers confused, about the plot.

Even by forgetting the misogyny that's hidden in the LA, the directing team made Kim Dokja (a lonely and pitiful reader who only wanted to discover the epilogue of his favorite story) a writer. By doing that, they entirely missed the whole point of the story, that was thought and written for the readers, for them to be able to relate to the main character.

I'm not going to keep trashing the story because my review is in fact very long, but I'll say, the story left me in tears, not because of how good or sad it was, but because of disappointment and anger.
The utter lack of respect from the directing team is truly maddening, and I hope, I really hope that SingSong-nim isn't too disappointed by this.
Because it can be felt that this LA was made just to compete the anime of Solo Leveling, made with money in mind and not the audience.

Thank you a lot for taking the time to read this, and please DON'T watch the live adaptation of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, it's a waste of time.

I thought Korea was going backwards while watching this movie

I was going to give it 0.5 stars, but cannot be given here. I'm actually a fan of one of the actors, and also a fan of ORV. But seriously? You've made the entire cast almost hateable because their acting is so stiff. Let's leave Lee Minho alone because he has had a long career here. But the rest? You gave the women unnecessary and disgusting aegyo. It would be terrible if this movie were to exist. I hope the production team is not that arrogant and does not let their biases and opinions appear in this film. You want to defeat Demon Slayer? Marvel? Or what? Very bad. Absolutely disgusting. Honestly, Marvel didn't give Captain America a magic glove like you did to Hyunsung. And bastard, Tanjiro doesn't use a gun when fighting. And is Jisoo too lazy to run? What's with that teleportation skill? You want to imitate Flash or what, damn director?

DON'T WATCH IT

Don't watch it... Cheap ahh cgi and lol probably spent more on the actors rather than actual output of this adaptation. I'm not hating the actors or anything (even though some characters they're portraying is wayyyyyyyyy of from what they're depicted on the novel) I'm just pissed at the director for butchering OUR(THE FANS) novel.

CASH GRAB ADAPTATION

I don't understand why korean production like to ruined everything from original work. You can tell this is just purely cash grab. I understand if they cut some parts or change some character designs but to the point changing unnecessary thing that should not be changed? WHY? All the females characters got misogyny treatments. Chae soobin's character supposed to be someone who is promoted in her job but in the movie they make her resigned? Then Nana's character changed backstory too. How can you make the main character who was bullied to someone who bully others 😭. Such a disappointment.

I hope the actor fans be open-minded at how bad this script is because it's farrr from the original story.

Can we pretend that the adaptation never happened?

the audacity to even RELEASE the movie.

But it's actually not that bad, it can actually be a great movie if they changed the characters' names, and the setting, and the storyline, and the script, the WHOLE plot tho

You could've at least styled Yoo Junhyuk's hair..

And why did you made Lee Sangah a healer if such a character is already present in the story itself? It's a kind of stereotypical misogyny she spent her whole life fighting against, duh

Dont watch it just read the novel or manhwa

The LA changed too many crucial points in the story to the point its just a hollow shell of the novel. Its clear that the director didnt even take a peak at the novel and just created this abomination to their own liking. The actors chosen doesnt fit well with the roles they are assigned to and the non-human characters look nothing like the description in the novel nor the art in the manhwa. The stories of each character and their roles in the story were drastically changed. Kim dokja just became a wanna be hero and a former bully with a loving family when he was the bullied one and came from an abusive household. Yoo sangah went from a skilled assassin to some healer which goes against her character story. Yoo junghyuk the mc of the story dokja read, TWSA, turned into some dumbass side character. In a nutshell, this LA is a piece of shit from the depths of hell. Scrap that. Even Satan would need bleach to cleanse his eyes of this atrocious crap. If you want to give ORV a go, read the novel. If you dont want to read the novel then read the manhwa. Its ongoing and its a great adaptation, something this LA can never be.

Utterly disrespectful to the original work

The worst cinematography and acting just added to the ruin the director/actors created by mischaracterising the complex characters by their misogynist and heteronormative/homophobic agenda. Heavily disrespectful to the complex world design, nuances and twists which made the best fantasy and psychological novel. EVERYONE , OMNISCIENT "READER'S" VIEWPOINT must only be read.

Absolutely garbage

Completely misses the point of the source novel. Deliberately made changes to the storyline to remove necessary plot lines while the few that remained got bastardised,
Feels like the creators took it upon themselves to make the worst live action adaptation of a novel in SK history.
Just read the novel or webtoon instead and and you'll understand how utterly disrespectful this joke of a movie is.
