A Hollow Adaptation That Forgot Its Own Soul

As someone who followed this story since 2020, this movie felt like a personal betrayal. It stripped the heart, the themes, and even the essence of what made the novel and webtoon unforgettable. Instead, we got a flashy mess that centers around a character who was never supposed to be in the spotlight. It's not even fanservice, it's pure ego-stroking. The director clearly didn’t care about the source material—only about selling tickets and slapping a famous name on the poster. You don’t adapt a masterpiece like this without respect. This wasn’t an adaptation. This was exploitation.

Ts suchs ass

Honestly, the actions weren't even needed in the first place, JUST WHOSE IDEAS WAS THIS? this feels like a slap in the face to fans (like me) who have spent years emotionally invested in the story. It’s like the people behind the adaptation read a Wikipedia summary of ORV and thought, “hell yea ts tuff, let’s throw some monsters in there and call it a day.” The soul of the original is gone. Don’t even get me started on the pacing, they butcher the story structure so badly that important arcs are erased???? It feels like they tried to Frankenstein the entire first few volumes into a watchable product and just hoped we wouldn’t notice. But we noticed cus wtf!???AND LMAO the CGI suchs, like actually, like PS2 cutscene levels of bad and in a story where the entire world is falling apart, that matters. It’s supposed to feel terrifying and mythic, but instead it’s just... cheesy? Idk, and emotionally? It’s dead inside. They ripped out the internal narration, the constellation dialogue, the deep moral dilemmas all the stuff that made ORV different, and they replaced it with generic hero tropes and forced drama. It reeks of trying to please the general public instead of respecting the source material or the fans who carried this story for years. In the end, it’s not just a bad adaptation it’s a complete misrepresentation. It doesn’t just “suck.” It’s a hollow, corporate husk of something that once had heart, and the worst part is they think slapping on a familiar title is enough to make us like it. It’s not. It’s infuriating. I FUCKING HATE THIS.

Trash

I have no words left. Worst adaptation ever wait, no it’s not even close to an adaptation. It’s just a trash ugh. When the live action first was announced, I was so happy but the moment I saw the cast I lost the spark in my eyes it was DISASTER worse than my life tbh. I hoped atleast the plot would stay same but they changed everything. It just keep getting worse and worse. It’s completely different movie not our ORV.
Please don’t waste your time watching it. Read the novel and manhwa. I genuinely hope this movie flops and disappears into the thin air. If you watch this movie this will be the worst experience ever in your life. Sorry my English is not good. Thank you!!

HEARTLESS, SOULLESS ADAPTATION!!

They should have made their own movie instead of making a loosely inspired adaptation of a popular novel that many people loved. This movie is the greatest insult for both the readers who loved the novel and the original writers who put so much effort and love into creating it. They changed the core aspects of every important characters, including the main character, and even did unimaginable gymnastics to alter the very foundations of the plot. It's such a catastrophic, abysmal disservice to the source material, and I pray to every god in this existence to strike this movie into its unrecoverable downfall.

I hate this

All is nothing like the novel. Kim dokja wants to save the world? The heck. He was fucking happy that this happened. And kim dokja's mom was the most important part of his life and he blamed his mother for his father's death but the director changed that. And my girl yoo sang ah being the typical cliche type of a healer is what disgusted me the most. Like bro, she is the opposite of what healer does. And they making my queen jung huiwon have not the original backstory speaks volume to me about the director bro.

do better

If you’re thinking of watching the Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint live action… Please don’t. Like seriously, just read the novel or the manhwa instead. It’s so much better. The live action barely even feels like the same story.

I haven’t even watched the full thing myself tbh but from everything I’ve seen and what people have been saying, I can confidently say it’s just Not it. The changes they made?? Wild. And if you actually care about the original, it’s kinda painful hearing what they did to it.

First of all WHY are they saying Dokja hated Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA)??? No he didn’t. He literally LOVED it. He was the only reader left by the end, like he stayed with it from chapter 1 to the end. The author wouldn’t have even been able to keep writing without him. That story meant everything to Dokja—it was literally his reason to live.

And then they’re saying he was a bully?? What??? Dokja was the one getting bullied. He was quiet, alone, and barely holding it together. The novel was his escape, it was all he had. Flipping his whole backstory like that just completely messes up his character.

The casting too 😭 I’m not tryna be mean or anything but the actors just don’t feel like the characters. It’s not just about appearance either, they just don’t give off the same energy at all. The whole thing feels super disconnected.

Also Yoo Sangah being a healer now?? Since when. She had thread-based abilities and she was strong in such a calm quiet way. They really just took that and tossed it. For what.

Heewon using a gun instead of a sword is crazy too. Like her whole constellation was tied to justice and the sword was such a big part of that. Also she wasn’t even supposed to be in the story until Dokja entered TWSA and changed the plot. But in the live action they made her the protagonist?? That’s not how any of this goes.

Joonghyuk was the actual protagonist of TWSA. In the novel, Dokja spent years reading about him and admiring him from behind a screen. It wasn’t a bond or anything like that, not at first—Dokja just idolized him. He was obsessed with watching his journey and surviving alongside him from the outside. That whole dynamic was super important and they barely even touch it in the adaptation.

Idk. It just sucks seeing a story that meant so much get turned into something that barely feels like ORV. It doesn’t have the emotion, the depth, or the weight of the original. It’s just not the same at all.

If this is your first time hearing about ORV please please read the novel or the manhwa first. That’s the real story. This live action ain’t it. ORV deserved so much better.

To whoever directed this please do better and actually take criticism.

Terrible

Did anyone even read the novel before making this horrible thing? This is just disrespectful to the author and the novel. You have changed the most valuable things about the characters. WHAT'S WITH THE GUN? Terrible. Horrifying. Ew. A big disgrace. I'll never watch it, I won't watch it. You don't even deserve my review. Shame on yall.

trash live action that no one wanted

i hope this shit will flop so hard that that misogynist director won’t have any reason to make up another shitty movie sequel.

from the moment they prioritize casting famous actors i knew this movie is set to flop, cause that has to be the worst casting i’ve ever seen. only redeeming casting here is nana as heewon and the actress that acted sangha, which is such a waste bc they decided to be misogynist towards the female characters of this movie.

i fucking hate everything about this live action because first, the original author of the novel doesn’t even approved of this movie as naver (a misogynist company ofc) was the one who decided this masterpiece needed a live action no one even asked for. second, as i stated before, the fucking casting. besides the things i’ve said beforehand, the actor who is acting as dokja doesn’t even know the character he’s acting. the disrespect towards the original medium is loud and they consider themselves artists?? and that leads us to the third fucking reason, everyone in the production literally just disrespected the original source as well as the cultures written in it. they fucking changed everything that i can’t hardly call this my orv, atp they should just change everything from the title to the characters bc this is NOT MY ORV. they should’ve taken the netflix adaptation of kakegurui, it’s INSPIRED but not necessarily the og medium.

i have a lot more to say honestly but i’m just getting irritated again so i’ll leave it at that.

READ THE WEBTOON OR WEBNOVEL INSTEAD OF WASTING YOUR MONEY AND WATCHING THIS SHIT.

HONEST CRITIQUE

Note: This critique comes from a novel and manhwa reader. Biased? No. This is an ADAPTATION of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. Which means that the theme, plot, and the dynamic essence should be similar if not the same.

1) JUSTICE TO THE CHARACTERS
Not only did the movie failed with the actors (no hate to the actors as they're only doing their job), but I blame the director for choosing them. First of all, height differences. It's not a big of a deal, I can agree—but to not even managed to follow such a basic detail for the story can already show how incompetent they are. Second of all, looks. Are the actors handsome/pretty? Yes. But do they fit the role they're acting to? No. Lee Giyoung is literally not that young. If you disagree with me, at least read the manhwa and compare it if he's supposed to be that young. Aside from Gilyoung is Lee Jihye. I know that some KPOP fans might get offender but I don't really care because it's not your favorite story that's getting adapted to such incompetency. Her looks is literally mature for Jihye. In the beginning of the story, we know that Jihye was still a student. Do you think it fits? Hell no.

2) JUSTICE TO THE STORY
When you're doing an adaptation, note that you're adapting the entirety. Did they managed to do it? Very not so. First of all are the guns, the story literally mentioned that firearms don't work on the monsters. "What if it's a weapon made using magical abilities?" Bullshit. Did the manhwa or even the novel mentioned that there's a magical gun at the beginning? No. If the director can't even follow the plotline of the story, what can we even expect from them? It's literally messy if you can't follow the plot. Here are the keys point that make it NOT ORV:

• Bully, since when did Kim Dokja became a bully? In fact, he's the one being bullied. His past is literally him losing hope in life because he's being bullied and shame all throughout the school year for being the son of a murderer. In fact, it got to the point wherein he jumped. It's honestly so sad that him, who experienced all the bad things, would become the bad thing himself. Can the director even see if that's the same story they're following? Because if you ask any ORV fans, it's literally far from it.
• Mother, what the hell do you mean by taking care of his mother? The reason he was bullied was because of it. It may be heavy plot for some but does this mean we should replace it to a completely new one? Hell no. The reason why Kim Dokja is like that because that's what made him like this. A quiet reader who's only hope to live was reading his novel in peace. Of all the atrocious things he experienced, it will be forgotten because of the movie portraying him as someone who love his Mother. Change his past and you'll change him completely.
• Sexual Assault, when Kim Dokja first encounter Jung Heewon is when she was getting assaulted. Again, it's another heavy plot but that doesn't mean they should change it. Jung Heewon is the embodiment of justice, what justice is there when even her own character doesn't experience it?
• Powers, the characters using a gun is already explained. Aside from that is Yoo Sangah building bridge and healing. NEVER EVER has Yoo Sangah heals people. What? Do you think she heals someone by whipping them? What the fuck? Are they alright in the head?

Finale, while I can think more reasons to hate the live action, I hope that there are more entertainment industry who can give sufficient JUSTICE for the story. Hate the movie and the director, not the actors. For those who wants to open a debate with me, please make sure that you've at least read the manhwa or novel. You may contact me through the fb group of ORV and screenshot my review and post it there, I would gladly take you on. For my fellow readers, let's rate this down on every movie site we can think of. This isn't fair for us, nor is it fair for the story. Thank you.

Might as well cancel it

If making ORV into a live action wasn't bad enough, they've ruined the story to the point that they might as well make an original film. It's honestly insulting to the original work how they've managed to turn something so wonderful into a simple cash grab. The entire premise of the original novel has been transformed into something so terrible; I have no idea how they've managed that. Seriously, this Adaptation is better off being cancelled.

This movie is the worst thing I've seen this year.

This movie is the worst thing I've seen this year, and it will probably stay that way until the end of the year. Some fans of the actors have been discussing very enthusiastically about the actors' looks and self-improvement in acting. I can't imagine how horrible their acting in previous movies was if they call that stiff and lifeless acting progress. This is definitely the worst movie of 2025, bad from acting, plot, visuals. I only rate 1⭐ because I can't rate 0⭐ or negative, 1⭐ is too high for this disgusting thing.

Useless changes that never happened in the novel./manhwa, that ruins the movie

I find it really disgusting how they changes absolutely Everything about orv in the movie, I don't know why but I find it really disgusting, Because in my opinion, the story of the original orv was already amazing. There was no need to change it. Changing small little stuff, I get it. It's understandable but changing the major arcs in the novel/ manhwa this makes it feel like you just went to chat gpt and ask it to summarize the whole entire novel/manhwa in 100 word or smth. And changing major plots like them using a sword to them using a gun, it feels like the producers didn't even read the novel. I feel like this is not a orv anymore, this is a whole different story. I don't really care about the cast that much in my opinion.Of course we as the viewers have opinions on who we would like to have in the cast , but I don't personally don't really care about it that much. And it pisses me off so bad how they butchered one of the characters. (Bihyung) there were so many ways to make it loor accurate but they fucked it up A LOT , Also, something that pisses me off is. What the fuck do you mean they made Yoo Sangah a healer and that kim dokja is a bully and that they made joo jonghyuk a side character!?!?!?!? Lets be honest the only people who are gonna watch the movie and give it a good review are people who never knew about orv
(the novel/manhwa) to begin with or are blinks and want to support jisoo. Even though I don't really care about the casting that much.I feel like it all started with the casting and then they butchered everything that came right after the casting.
Anyways after my stupid tiring rant, all that I can conclude Is, don't watch the movie it's gonna be ass. But then you might be like. " But you didn't watch It.". But I read the novel and everything is completely different from whatever they're yapping about in the trailer. Like wdym they use gun????? The whole movie was just a big waste of money. And a big mistake. There was no need to even make a live action to begin with... anyways i'm really tired of typing all of this bye. Lololololol
