Love Like the Galaxy: Part 1

First part is SLOW and the FL is a bit heartless

Tl;dr the FL treats the ML poorly and doesn't actually develop feelings for him until the last episode. I'll summarise the episode list below (with as few a spoilers as possible) so you can see what I mean. But if you want a romance drama, this part aint it. I imagine part 2 is a lot nicer, but I'd have liked a headsup on just how little of their romance there is in part 1.

1-8 Slow backstory to FL. Doesn't properly meet ML until ep 8.
9-13 Amazing writing, FL is cool, great chemistry with ML, made me squeal
14-21 FL falls in love with another man (what?). ML looks on sadly.
22-26 FL despises ML for no reason?
27 She realises how nice he is and falls in love.

So I get what they were going for with both their characters, it was just a really difficult watch because of the way they did it.

It's insane to me that theres more episodes of the FL being in love with another man than with the ML. Who wants to watch that? You can argue that they weren't *really* in love, but it is literally SEVEN episodes of them looking longingly at each other and telling everyone that they're going to be together while the ML looks on really sadly. It's exhausting to watch knowing that they're not the end couple.

The ML is absolutely fantastic. Loveable from the very beginning, always looking out for the FL. He's the only reason I kept watching until the end.

But the FL and ML also never really get a chance to talk. She has far deeper conversations with all the other men around her. There's not really a good bonding moment for them that isn't just him rescuing her. She dislikes him for a good portion of the drama and I kept waiting for them to talk it out. Like her explain her reasoning but... no she just keeps brushing him off with no explanation. A lot of the time she just STARES at the ground. Not saying ANYTHING. It's frustrating and rough to watch. There's one good moment at the end where they talk it out, but it doesn't explain her general dislike of him for the other 26 episodes of this drama.

I'm guessing (or hoping) that part 2 addresses most of these issues, but I Just wanted to write this review because I would have liked a headsup on how slow their romance is before watching.

Our FL, Niao Niao, is stubborn, rude, and reckless. However, she has an upright mindset that will not allow her or those around her to be mistreated. Her mother, Yuanyi, has a different mindset; she holds the idea of a gentle young woman's behaviour that was popular at the time, “bear with it”. Their different yet similar personalities continually clash, each refusing to relent and understand the perspective of the other. If you think critically while watching the show, you will understand the perspective of both Yuanyi and Niao Niao. Yuanyi has underlying guilt due to the abandonment of her daughter, which results in her being extra firm with her daughter when trying to teach her. It seems she believes that if she can teach Niao Niao to be an upright lady, then I can suppress some of the guilt that she feels for leaving her, which caused her to be uneducated to this degree. Although the show really only shows the perspective of the FL, you will be able to understand the reasoning behind the mother's behavior. However, both refuse to see where they’ve gone wrong. Yuanyi always chooses to see the worst in Niao Niao, leaving her daughter feeling isolated. Despite the continual warnings from almost all the people in her life whom she respects, the mother refuses to see how her behaviour is not benefiting her daughter at all. Niao Niao refuses to see that she is too narrow-minded in how she deals with conflict, often disregarding that her scheme almost always impacts more than just the intended target.

I find that the root cause of their misunderstandings lies in the fact that they do not actually know each other. The show does a good job of showing multiple different mother-daughter relationships, and some mother figures were just as strict as Yuanyi, but none of them are meeting their daughter for the first time in 15 years. Yuanyi’s desire to “fix” Niao Niao before they have even fostered a relationship makes it even harder for them to understand each other's perspectives and motives. However, as this part progresses, we see their walls slowly come down, and they begin to understand each other, without really changing who they are. We see them grow, which is nice to see. Niao Niao becomes more receptive to her mother’s advice, and Yuanyi becomes more willing to defend her daughter by the end of the first part. Really good

Season 1 (episodes 1-27) had a slow start. It took a whopping six episodes for Shaoshang and Ling Buyi to finally meet face to face. Before that, nothing was happening aside from Shaoshang showing absolute disdain towards everything and acting like a spoiled brat. She was supposed to be a neglected and abused teenager who was left as a baby with her relatives while her parents served in a war. The writers didn't do a really good job flushing her out her character at the beginning. She stumbled between being portrayed as a neglected teen to acting very whiny and entitled. In every scene she would go out of her way to act out and complain about everything, instead of trying to reconnect with her parents. Fortunately, the writers didn't let her fester into an unlikable shrew and her character development picked up nicely. It turned out she loved to learn about how things worked. She was very sympathetic to other people problems. And she was a great problem solver.

Her mother's actions were very confusing. For someone who was a seasoned general, mom showed extreme shortsightedness when it came to parenting. She knew very well about her daughter's accomplishments, but instead of looking at the big picture and appreciating the fact that Shaoshang did not grow up to be shallow and spoiled, mom always fixated on her daughter's smaller problems - a lack of education and etiquette. Mom's inconsistency showed even more during Shaoshang's engagement. She did not want the marriage with Lou Yao because he was unintelligent, weak, and wasn't able to protect Shaoshang. Mom also picked up on the fact that Ling Buyi liked her daughter. However, when Ling Buyi proposed, mom immediately put her daughter down to be some awful and unintelligent simpleton who was unworthy of anything. It was no wonder Shaoshang wanted to get away from that house. The icing on the cake was mom's favoritism towards the cousin, instead of trying to reconnect with her daughter.

I really wanted to see the mom and daughter's relationship grow where Shaoshang realized that her mom wanted to prepare her for the adult life and teach her how to navigate society. In return, mom would realize that Shaoshang was a very special and beautiful person and finally got over her fixation on Shaoshang's upbringing. There were some very good moments where I thought mom and daughter would finally grow close - the one where mom slapped one of the ladies at Lou Yao's house. But then there was the scene with Lin Buyi's proposal where mom was a total let down.

The way the Cheng family was portrayed as a "military" family was odd. General Cheng was a general, just like Ling Buyi. But General Cheng didn't seem to have any kind of influence or power at all. At 21, Ling Buyi had an awful lot of power and influence, and even an army to command. General Cheng was nowhere on that level even thought he spent his entire life fighting and was at least twice as old as Ling Buyi. The only person who seemed to have any kind of military discipline in the Cheng family was mom. The two brothers, who were with the parents when they were away, acted like spoiled and pampered aristocrats, instead of military children. They also looked like they never handled a weapon in their lives.

Some storylines needed serious cropping, like the very long engagement to Lou Yao that wasn't going to work out anyway. Shaoshang and Ling Buyi playing catch up with each other could've been sped up a little bit too. I wanted to see more of them hang off the roof together instead of watching Lou Yao bringing her snacks.

There were also some very great scenes showing the build-up of Shaoshang and Ling Buyi relationship. The scene where she pulled an arrow out of his chest was hot and very intimate.

A bundle of Joy

I liked that this one did not have backstabbing and betrayal by family members. I felt there might be the typical cousin lover fight but there wasn't and the Cheng Family were very good to each other and entertaining to watch. I was damn impressed with Old lady Cheng, she cracked me up each time :) and there was a lot of cunning schemes and revenge done by the FL which gave me story of minglan vibe and the ML quest to uncover the truth of his _____ death was a long journey of 15 yrs it reminded me of yanxi palace in which FL goes from simple servant in the palace to imperial consort with tons of scheming to finally avenge her sisters rape and murder. Overall it's a good watch the only thing I felt it missed was not seeing them having a family of their own. A scene of them living Shang's dream of simple village kinda life or maybe a scene of Qiqi and Song's kids playing around with their Uncle Zisheng (ML). Ah it would have been a perfect ending. We also missed out on their wedding and the rest of the siblings. Those scenes would have made this the best of the best drama IMO.

I Wasn't Ready for This Level of Devotion

Imagine The Double’s political intrigue blended with Pursuit of Jade’s romance. That’s probably the best way I can describe Love Like the Galaxy.

This show is emotionally disruptive. It’s both beautiful and devastating at the same time. The narrative centers around two deeply wounded individuals who find healing, growth, and eventually lasting love amidst war, court intrigue, and family drama.
The first part is light-hearted and comedic, focusing heavily on the FL’s family-centered dynamic, which tragically reveals the trauma that eventually shapes her character development in the succeeding episodes. I really loved the emotional storytelling in this show. Like in Pursuit of Jade, the characters’ emotions are strongly highlighted, and as a viewer, you can easily feel what each character is trying to convey.

The acting is stellar, while the visuals and cinematography are stunning. Though the storyline felt a bit dragging at times — to the point that I almost DNF’d it — the slow-burn romance between the male and female lead gradually deepened around the middle part of the series.

The second half became increasingly heavy and emotionally devastating. The pacing also became much faster. This is where the character development truly shines, not only for the leads but also for the side characters. The weakest part of the show, however, might be the execution of the climax and resolution. It felt rushed, and the writers relied too much on the viewers to analyze and interpret the message of the story without fully fleshing out certain scenes. After all the emotional suffering they went through, I honestly wanted more payoff and intimacy between the leads in the ending. Because of this, some parts toward the end became predictable.

Overall, the emotional engagement of the story halfway through was strong enough to keep me invested until the very end just to witness the happy ending of the ML and FL.

Another gem

A good story catering to the taste of people who love a concoction of romance comedy alice of life with little action .. plot revolves around a girl who was abandoned by her parents when she was new born so she has her own deal with trust issues while the ML is struggling through the trauma of watching his entire clan massacred and now all he wants is revenge. Apart from that story touches upon a few aspects which are generally avoided by asian writers for example FL's mother denies to acknowledge her mistake of leaving her daughter behind she comes back after 15 years and yet tries to establish her authority on the daughter's life ..along with that writer is boldly discussing bad parenting how parents choose their who over the child's mental peace ( takes am even drastic turn on second season when FL leaves her house to stay with empress ). FL is temperamental ( in a good way) she chooses a simple and humble boy (not ML) who understands her right over any romance. Though the story stands out but there were a few things which felt lacking for example ...I wish the FL knew some fighting skills ... The chemistry between leads was there but not very strong may be because of the plot that kept them apart either way even in season two lusi seemed little reserved ( will discuss that in season 2 review) no kissing scene,lead couple's scenes were very less overall. The drama has a bulky cast ..so many characters to keep up with in fact there were a couple of characters that didn't appear but their references was given every now and then making things a little messy and confusing. But with all these things it was still a very enjoyable drama.. the consistent incoming of slice of life comic punch kept things lively plus ZLS's spontaneity did great justice to this script ... Overall this season is basically more of less about lead's character development as for their serious love story and dark secrets watching season 2 is compulsory

Love like the Galaxy - Best Chinese Drama

I honestly love the casts, director, and the storyline! This Chinese drama does not heavily focus on romance which I loved. However, when it does it is very sweet, intense, and awe. Some drama heavily focuses on romance of the FL and ML but not the actual plot of it. I suggest watching this drama and play attention to the details of the story. There's a lot of aha moments and very funny scenes.

The FL and the ML aren't the only ones that have character development but side characters also. It's not a typical kind of drama where it is too dramatic all the time. I especially love all the casts, everyone did their parts so good. The acting is so real for each characters. I became a fan of the FL and ML. LOVE THEM!! I wish for more upcoming drama with these two actor and actress. Now, I'm just sad that it's over.

The Niao Niao character makes this a great and entertaining watch because she is one of the toughest and smartest drama heroines out there. Although the love story is beautiful, it is watching her stand up for herself and come into her own that makes this drama special. There is a lot of intrigue and fighting and revenge but there is also a lot of humor sprinkled throughout, which makes the 56 episodes race by. Ling Bu Yi makes for a worthy suitor who is just as principled (and stubborn) as she is, but just as emotionally damaged too. Watching the two of them clash and fall in love and clash some more is addictive. There are also some great side characters. One of my favorites was Empress Yue, who deserves an entire drama devoted to her. I also really really liked Niao Niao's interactions with the scholar.

I think this is one of the best, most epic romances around.

One of the best series I've seen so far...

Strong plot, epic love story, tear-jerking moments, and superb story-telling. This is the kind of drama many audiences would get hooked, with it's fascinating and deep elements. Wu Lei took his acting into greater heights by displaying his role well as the revenge-stricken general. Zhao Lu Si, as usual, can step into any character she plays. I love it whenever the male character shows deep love to his girl, even just by the look in his eyes. He doesn't need to get so mushy, his gaze and actions says it all. It's really worth the wait and the 56 episodes did it justice. I wish they could've spared a few more scenes showing the couple getting married at last and having kids on their own.

PERFECT COMBINATION DRAMA

I can't count how many times I have re-watched this drama since 2022 until now, I failed to move on because for me this is a masterpiece drama!💕

Cheng Shaoshang (played by Zhao Lusi), she is a beautiful, brave, and clever girl. However, despite all her strengths, Shaoshang always felt unlucky and never lived a happy life. She was abandoned by her parents for war since baby and lived with her evil grandmother and aunt so she never felt love.
General Ling Bu Yi (Leo Wu), he is a handsome, powerful, clever, and charismatic man. He lost his family since childhood and was adopted by the emperor and empress. He has many achievements and titles at a very young age.

Two people with all their flaws, who have a sad story and had family problems meet and fall in love with each other. In the middle of their love journey, they encounter many difficulties and challenges, have to experience painful separation, until finally living happily together! (★ ω ★)

Not only Leo Wu and Zhao Lusi, but all characters acting are a chef kiss! I think this drama always be a legend in C-Drama and remembered by many people until many years to come!!
