Love Like the Galaxy: Part 1

A drama like no other

It's first time I see a drama after reading the novel, and like it even if it deviates from the novel !
The script is so good because it makes it easier for viewers to understand the characters.. and these characters are so complex : Shaoshang has become selfish and scheming, smart and cunning, because she needed to survive unprotected since birth, and after reunited with her family 15 years later she is met with disdain and more punishmentd from her mother. This is why the drama's first 5 episodes seem slow but they actually build the backbone of the story and are essential - episode 6 already has the plot going ! Cinematography is beautiful, and so are the costume and make'up, no brilliant red lips thank you very much !
Casting is on point, I can not say " that one was a bad choice", the comedy scenes are in the VILLAGE this is why actors play like silly village people, including grandmother and comp.. Very impressed with FL acting, considering one needs to express subdued dissapointment, anger and sorrow within the limitations of the era rigid attitude for women, and respect for elders..the way she realises her choice to stand up even to her mother or continue to be bullied, that desperate painful bravery without melodrama, is simply unique in cdrama.. I will stop here before revealing more..
Be patient until ep 6, and don't miss this show, as will be your loss !

Annoying female lead

This is the second time I've tried watching this series because I REALLY want to. But despite all the great things going for it, the character of the main female lead, Niao Niao, is just too infuriating to watch.

Despite all the empathy or justification I've tried to muster up for NN due to her circumstances, her incessant self-pity and inability to empathize for others is just too irritating. It's hard to believe how much she's been "bullied" by her family when she acts like such a spoiled brat who is jealous of everyone for having a mother. Her parents were away risking their lives to support the family and although they had to leave her behind, you'd think she'd be happy to have both of them back alive. If she really were as clever as depicted, she should have known that her family were all liars and manipulators and anything they said about her parents were potentially false. Instead, she kicks into high manipulation gear the minute she sees them.

She acts like the biggest victim in the family but appreciates nothing and no one. Her father is loving and her cousins coddle her but she can't stop complaining about her mother disciplining her. Pouting and manipulating without putting any real effort into herself, and yet she just blames everything on everyone else. Her aunt physically and mentally abuses her husband and daughter but nope, NN is the only victim here. She makes it impossible to root for her.

It's such a shame because NN's parents are fantastic and have amazing chemistry with one another. The series initially won me over at the scene her mother rode in on a horse fully suited up in war gear. Her character is just so good. The male lead, Zi Sheng, is also intriguing so far, as well as the case he's working on. Even the family dynamics and drama are interesting.

I really wanted to try and just bear with NN's character until there was hopefully some severe character growth. But when within an episode, she had men falling for her left and right from their one and first encounters, it was game over. The score for her is almost nothing and an 8-9 for everything else about the series so far.

Love Like the Galaxy begins as a charming historical romance but gradually reveals a deeper story about family, abandonment, social expectations, and a young woman’s struggle to find her place in the world.

Cheng Shaoshang is hardly your conventional heroine. Abandoned by her parents during childhood, deprived of affection, and raised among manipulative relatives, she learns to survive through intelligence, stubbornness, and occasionally vindictive schemes. She’s rebellious, mischievous, and sometimes downright infuriating, but wonderfully human. Her strained relationship with her mother is particularly compelling, revealing how love and good intentions can become instruments of emotional cruelty.

The romantic entanglements are equally entertaining, but what makes the story work is how each relationship reveals something about Shaoshang’s evolving understanding of love, independence, and belonging. Zisheng, meanwhile, is an intriguing contradiction… a brilliant and intimidating general whose emotional restraint conceals a troubled past. Their developing relationship offers tenderness, humor, and plenty of friction.

Zhao Lusi is excellent, balancing youthful defiance with vulnerability, while Wu Lei brings an imposing presence and quiet intensity to his character. The supporting cast, especially the wonderfully eccentric Cheng family and the imperial household, provides delightful humor and warmth. The production is beautiful, the political intrigue gradually deepens, and the writing allows its characters room to breathe.

What I particularly appreciate is that Shaoshang’s journey isn’t about becoming the obedient woman society expects. It’s about discovering who she truly is while learning that independence doesn’t necessarily mean rejecting love.

An engaging, intelligent, and beautifully performed first part that lays the emotional foundation for a much darker story ahead.

I cried buckets for this drama

I cried buckets for this drama!

LLTG was highly recommended everywhere so it was on my list for such a long time. Overall, it’s not that great but it’s watchable. For historical fiction drama, I think Who Rules The World has better plot and pace.

The cast was good. Leo and Lusi, despite being in their early 20s during the filming, portrayed their character well. So does the supporting characters, I especially love Shaosang’s mother, Yuanyi. What an amazing actress. The relationship between this mother and daughter was done beautifully. For those who hated her mother, I truly feel her character as Asian parents at that time, and being a war general for 15 years. And she is probably the person that love Shaosang the most.

But the plot. Oh the plot. So many love story and revenge. And the pace is so slow. I had to play 1.25x speed to watch it. The villain’s character development is out of place, His Majesty the King and the crown prince is a joke. And poor Yuan Shanjian, can we get a better ending for that guy. He’s been waiting for Shaosang for so long and when they almost got married, FL old flame comes back. How unlucky is that.

Not to mention the ending. Its so lame. Would have been great if it fast forward to few years later, with ML & FL, got married and have a bunch of kids, since both of them grew up without love and family.

Filled with annoying supporting characters. Some of the main characters are decent.

Old Madame Cheng is the worst so far, I felt like I'm watching a comedy drama instead of historical or political one. She is a such a annoying character. Her, the caretaker, and the aunt-in-law, make me feel like I wont be able to tolerate such silly and insipid characters throughout the show and If I am better off dropping this. Apart from the FL & her maid, there seem to be no sensible female characters. Wait, the cousin and the aunt who raised her seem like decent people. Now it seems like the cousin is gonna loose her way as well.

Xiao Yuan Yi should not have been a mother. The first thing she does when she comes home is "disciplines" her abused daughter. Yeah, why not, let's abuse her some more. That's what motherhood is all about. She gives me the ecks. I shudder thinking of little girls who only love their moms or desire a little bit of affection but have to deal with their authoritarian discipline. Only on 4th episode and she gets on my nerve. Not only is she not a good mother but also a poor teacher who doesn't understand what her pupil requires to learn.

I repeat what a horrible mother. She actually said let me beat you to establish my authority, how disgusting could she be. And then she has the guts to call her daughter cold. She has some screws loose for sure. She is fine with seeking comfort from her husband but can't see that her little girl needs comfort as well.

While her father seems to be an okay person, he always gives in to her mother. Whatever she does should be right and for her daughter's sake. They were fine maligning her in front of everyone, especially people who mocked and bullied her. I mean the story didn't even need other people to bully her when they have one of the strongest bully in their family.

The romance was under shadowed and mostly led by Ling Bu Yi. He fell first, he fell hard, and he stayed true. I know there's going to be a separation in part 2 but I'll deal with it when time comes.

best of the best.

best drama, best lead, best sibling, best king qeen consort and best second least. tear jerking as well. It's one of its kind drama where you get the best of the king and court of chinese dramaland. Very understanding prince and worse princess which makes it quite fun as well. like the turnover of the fl mother and Goldloving grandmother. At one point wish there is a great war to see more of ml in action. love the relation of the king queen ans consort oh how i love the balance of the kings love for the queen and consort. overall I love the chemistry of all the actors in their respective role. Great drama can watch atleast once a year. 😆😅

A trust shouldn't be hidden for too long, it will create misunderstanding.

It's the bestest chinese drama I have seen so far. Tremendous job for choosing such an amazing actor. FL is soo good at her job, every drama she chooses become hit. I am a great fan of you and eagerly waiting for your new drama to release. The ongoing controversy with your agency is really inhuman and unacceptable. I hope you found the peace you are looking for and leave those people in the past. I have watched this when it release and still remember all the plot because I have already re-watch it many times. This drama deserve 10/10 for the plot. A must watch for all genre lover.

One of best Chinese Dramas

I wonder how I've missed this gem. Story was captivating from the very start and kept me involved until the very end. All characters were written and developed really well. Zhao Lu Si is indeed great actress and her skills were exceptional well presented here. Her chemistry with the male characters was on next level, reflecting her development from girl into a woman.
This drama is setting the blue print of how Chinese dramas should be done. I loved the clothes and the sets, many of the scenes were shot outside in different locations. I have here everything I what to see here: Love, comedy, drama & beauty.
I would hardy recommend this masterpiece.
