A Great Option for a First Cdrama
Follow Zhao Lusi in another STELLAR performance as a smart indepent woman in a period drama. The kicker with this drama is that every single character is written and acted out so well that it's impossible not to like everyone. Even the mother who i disliked for abandoning her baby because of a fortune teller, we'd redeemable and still likeable.The queens were an absolute riot kicking the Emperor out as he went through a midlife crisis every time the ML went through any sort of character Growth. He was also the biggest shipper of the ML and FL.The amount of dad jokes the Emperor dropped would make any dad proud.

What is love?
Cheeky, mischievous and lovable Zhao Lusi pulls it off again and is in her element when these traits are required of her character. She plays a very believable 15 year old who is figuring out what love is - be it family love or romantic love.The cinematography was superb and had those panning scenes which I enjoyed in A Dream of Splendor. Scenery was gorgeous and sets were very realistic. Casting for the extras was very well done and it was so good to see the black guards looking especially tough and rugged unlike some dramas where the guards looked like school boys.
The character growth for the FL was good and it was refreshing to see her figure out what love and marriage is. Her interactions with the 3 different love interests was nicely done. #1 annoyed her every time they met, #2 spoiled her with food and catered to her every whim and #3 sparked the embers of love every time he saved her.
Unfortunately, while I loved the FL, I would have preferred a different ML. Just personal preference on what I would consider handsome. His posture didn’t sit well with me either but other than that he was a good actor who rode the horse very well and had great fighting scenes.

A modern classic ?
**My review is based on having seen part 2 (no spoilers)**I think this is quite possibly the best thing I’ve watched on Viki. Here are some of the reasons why:
- high production values overall
- excellent attention to detail, well dressed sets
- costumes felt authentic in terms of colours and fabrics, very little that felt obviously modern like you get in some historicals
- great cinematography, lighting and framing, some shots you’d just want to frame large-scale
- excellent music and sound design
- appropriate use of time slips
- great characters that develop and grow through different experiences but always make believable choices
- huge range of tone from humour to pathos deftly handled
- well-thought out plot, I didn’t get annoyed at any last minute drama that often gets thrown in for no reason, the whole thing was very well paced
- satisfying ending

Swoony Romance
I've watched Love Like the Galaxy Part 1 and 2 more than a couple times (binged watch) and everytime I do, I feel in love with Zhisheng and Niao Niao. In addition, it seems that it does not matter how many times I watch it, I still laugh my head off in the funny parts. Although the drama has a chilhood trauma and get dark at some point (part of the history), it is overcome with its comedy, fighting scenes, main leads chemistry, slow burning romance, character development, impressive cinematography, and most important, its happy ending. Absolutely recommend it, so if you haven't watch it yet, you should give it a try. 🫶🏼Was this review helpful to you?

Love Like the Galaxy 🌌✨Completed Love Like the Galaxy—a drama I literally started because ChatGPT told me the FL was “me-coded.” 😂 An illiterate, lunatic, mischievous, sucker-for-love, always-misunderstood girl… yep. Apparently she is me. And honestly, I am her. 😂 That was the first reason I started watching this drama.
The first 30 episodes were SO slow. I was genuinely bored out of my mind, especially during the first 10 episodes. For the first half, I kept wondering when something major was actually going to happen. But I’m SO glad I didn’t drop it, because somewhere along the way I became completely attached to the story even tho love story ain't my thing . If I had dropped it, I definitely would have regretted it.
I understand that the first 30 episodes were important for showing Shaoshang’s circumstances, her childhood, her family dynamics, and how she became the person she was. But I honestly don’t think all of that needed 30 episodes. Almost everything major happened within the last 12 episodes. I wouldn’t exactly call the ending rushed, but the happy moments definitely felt rushed while the sad moments were HUGE. The five-year separation especially felt like a tiny entry in a diary when I really wanted to see more of what happened during those years. We could actually get more of general huo buyi fighting scene in the north western border!
The plot also felt a little stretched because of the way the villains kept appearing one after another. First it was the ladies who bullied Shaoshang, then Lady Ruan, then another villain, then another misunderstanding… it sometimes felt like whenever one problem was solved, another villain simply popped up to replace it. There were even times when there wasn’t really a villain, just misunderstandings. 😭 So yes, I definitely felt the story could have been tighter.
BUT despite all that, I became very attached to these characters.
Ling Buyi’s character was absolutely fantastic. His tragic past, emotional complexity, intelligence, ruthlessness, and the way he loved Shaoshang made him such an interesting character to watch. Special mention to Leo Wu because he absolutely ATE this role. And Shaoshang—oh damn. Her character development was excellent. She was charismatic, unfiltered, mischievous, intelligent, and so unique for her era. Her relationship with Ling Buyi made sense according to the plot, although personally, I wasn’t completely sold on their chemistry. I understood their relationship more than I felt it.
Shaoshang’s development was also a little sad for me because I felt like she slowly lost some of her original spark. I understood why she changed , maturity was needed and why everything she went through affected her, but I still missed that chaotic, fearless version of her from the beginning.
Zisheng was played by Leo Wu, Niaoniao by Zhao Lusi, and Yuan Shen by Li Yunrui—and honestly, these casting choices were JACKPOT. 💯 The cast was absolutely perfect.
My favourite side character was Wan Qiqi. BEST WINGWOMAN EVER. 😂❤️ I loved her so much.
I also really loved the royal family. The Emperor, Empress, and Consort Yue had such an interesting dynamic. Honestly, a surprisingly good royal family with very low cortisol levels. 😂 The Emperor was an ABSOLUTE DIVA and I loved it. 🪽
The Empress and Shaoshang’s relationship was one of my favourite parts of the drama. Their time together in the palace, Shaoshang studying, making mechanisms, making wine and sweets for the Empress… I loved all of it. The Empress sometimes felt more like Shaoshang’s mother than her actual mother did. 🥹
Shaoshang’s relationship with her own mother was definitely love-hate for me. I understood that their equation was complicated, but sometimes her mother overcompensated for Yangyang so much that it genuinely pissed me off. At the same time, I loved how the Cheng family eventually stood up for Shaoshang. Her parents, brothers, and everyone else fought for her when it mattered. And Shaoshang’s mother really had SOME MOVES. 😂 🗡️
Some of my favourite moments were the palace scenes, Shaoshang’s mechanisms and inventions, the bridge-fall scene at the Wan residence and that whole sweet chaotic revenge, and especially the scene where Ling Buyi saved Shaoshang when she was being bullied in the palace.
And then there was THAT whole Huo family revenge arc.
When Ling Buyi took revenge for the Huo family by killing Ling Yi, Shaoshang was there, and the red-and-black clothing was so significant because the next day was supposed to be their marriage. And then Ling Buyi sacrificed himself, pushing Shaoshang above the cliff while falling down himself to save her. I LOVED that episode. 😭
I also loved the second-last and last episodes, especially when Ling Buyi trusted Shaoshang enough to leave her to take care of Huo County. The final episode was genuinely satisfying. Everyone was doing something—the parents were fighting for their daughter, Shaoshang was protecting the people of the village, Ling Buyi was fighting the traitors, and every member of the family had a role to play. It felt good to finally see everyone fighting for something together. Except the 3rd Prince who just stood in his armour and did nothing.
The story actually hit me quite deeply, and I can’t completely explain why. There was something about these complicated, tragic characters and everything they went through that stayed with me.
I also loved how the idea of the galaxy, stars, and the world kept coming back throughout the story. Tho It was the title; the references kept revolving around the characters and their relationship, and I really liked that.
The visuals weren't really HUGE but pretty, and the CGI was actually really good. The carriage accident and the cliff scenes were especially well done. I just wish we had gotten more of General Huo Buyi fighting in the northwest because that five-year version of him was LOOKING ABSOLUTELY KILLING. 😭🔥
Though I have to say, some of the survival scenes were way too impossible. Ling Buyi survived THREE major accidents that no normal man should realistically survive, and he also saved Shaoshang multiple times in situations where I was just like—NO WAY. 😭 At some point, I had to stop questioning the physics of the drama. 😂 It became a little too extreme for me.
One detail I absolutely loved was the visual parallel between the beginning and the end. The first time Ling Buyi saw Shaoshang, she was wearing a red dress with a pink cloak, and in the last episode she wore a pink dress with a red cloak. That reversal was such a beautiful little full-circle detail. 🌸. Also the fact that the string that shaoshang used to save ling buyi,he kept it for 6 yrs ..the whole time , very heart warming!
And yes, the ending healed me. 😂 After all those impossible situations, misunderstandings, tragedies, separations, and villains popping up one after another, getting a HAPPY ENDING actually felt GOOD.
So overall, I enjoyed this drama much more in the latter half—what many people consider the second season. The beginning tested my patience HARD, but I’m genuinely glad I stayed.
Would I recommend it? Yes.
Would I rewatch it? Probably not. 😭
Did it make me emotionally attached despite all my complaints? Absolutely.
And apparently Shaoshang is me-coded, so I guess I had to finish it. 😂

Very Beautiful Love Story Between a Young General & his Extraordinary young Wife
The first time I saw this drama I was immediately attracted with the beauty of the FL Zhao Lu Si and the calm but intelligent nobility of the ML General Ling Bu Yi (Leo Wu). Her carefree spirit and innocent beauty captivates me and the handsome yet dignified demeanor of the General who was so deeply in loved with the FL is so touching. Both leads acted so well and so convincingly.The production has done well and the director is very good.
The presentation of the family values and the complications of the political tensions in the Imperial Palaces made their love story more beautiful and touching.
Because of this drama I became a great fan of Leo Wu and Zhao Lu Zi. Hope to see more of them.

The story is richly layered … balancing family dynamics, political intrigue and personal growth without losing emotional depth. It’s not just a romance, it’s very much a coming of age journey for the female lead. The writing takes its timebut that slow burn pays off with meaningful character development and strong emotional arcs.
The casting is spot on. Leo Wu delivers a restrained yet powerful performance..his intensity, micro-expressions,and controlled vulnerability really elevate the role. And by the way, this is how a general should look like - pretty face but with “killer aura" and "ruthless grit" that’s missing in a particular male lead that I recently watched (separate review) . And alongside him, Zhao Lusi brings charm, emotional rangeand relatability. Together, they create magic!
The chemistry..this is where the show truly shines. Even without relying on excessive physical intimacy, the connection between them absolutely sizzles. It’s the kind of chemistry built through tension, glances, and emotional stakes rather than overt romance and honestly, it makes you want even more of them on screen. A few additional intimate moments wouldn’t have hurt, but what they deliver is already incredibly compelling.
This is also one of those dramas that has strong rewatch value. It’s the kind you go back to during a lull because the characters and their journey stay with you.

A Character-Driven Political Drama Worth Completing
The storyline is intriguing, and I found myself genuinely invested in the politics and character dynamics. However, without watching both seasons, the story feels incomplete.That said, the comedic interactions between characters are enjoyable, and I liked all of the roles—though some stood out more than others. My biggest critique lies in Part 1, where a few character arcs felt rushed while others dragged. Still, I enjoyed the first part, adored the second, and ended up loving the series as a whole.
What I appreciated most is the psychological depth given to each character. We see lost and forced love, humiliation, regret, and abandonment shaping their lives. These emotional layers influence their decisions, affect their children, and echo into future choices. The actors did a wonderful job bringing all of this to the screen.

One of the Best Chinese Historical Drama
I'll write the same review for both parts 1 and 2. Honestly, I'm not used to writing drama reviews, but I'll spend my time and energy to spread positive reviews and appreciate good work.First, the storyline. The episodes are long, but it's because the journey is too. We get to see Shao Shang's growth from a child to a woman, understanding her perspective, reasons, and actions.
Every character in this drama has beautiful development, and it shows. There's no forced plot, and the storyline flows well. I'm impressed by Shao Shang's journey in finding love. Her search for true love teaches her many things and is the main factor in her growth into a mature woman. And Ling Buyi's story doesn't just stop at revenge; we see how he lives after achieving it. The supporting characters, including the prince's children, friends, and family, are all well-written.
The actors have excellent acting skills, with the leads (Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi) standing out. Their chemistry is remarkable.
The direction is also great, with a well-paced storyline, beautiful cinematography, and excellent set design.
There are many things I want to say, but this is all that comes to mind for now.

This unexpectedly becomes one of my favorite
To comply with the government regulation, Love Like A Galaxy is divided into two parts, to keep episodes below 40. The total episodes for the whole parts is 56. I'm glad they did not just cut here and there to keep the drama to just 40 episodes. It would not be as good otherwise. They divided the drama really well. Part 1 deals mostly with the character introductions and background. You get to see some character development, especially the FL and ML. Cheng Shao Shang started out as a rebellious girl that was left by her parents since she was a baby, to the care of her "evil-lish", annoying, materialistic, selfish grandmother and second aunt. The first part is about Shao Shang's life outside of the palace, and more about her family. This is an unexpectedly good drama, one that i will put on my favorites and will re-watch in the future, time permitted.Was this review helpful to you?
