So well done you won't notice it's 20 episodes long!

A refined, spectacular and well told Joseon period drama that I enjoyed from start to finish. It's 20 episodes of neatly crafted taletelling and cinematography with a dazzling array of great actors. While less a romance than a mystery suspense, romance was a theme that I thought was done well without too many usual tropes.

Park Hyung Sik is a popular actor and suited the role of Prince Lee Hwan. Jeon So Nee was excellent in her role as the framed murderer Min Jae Yi. And Lee Tae Sun stole every scene as a wacky genius & black sheep of a noble family; he stole every scene as one the most congenial characters I've ever seen. And the actor who plays the Right State minister I've seen many times and excels in being diabolical.

A sinister plot springs immediately from the opening credits of Episode 1. From there it's balanced with a generous amount of silly and sincere humor. The characters in Our Blooming Youth are well crafted, and the plot and dialogue exceptional. With a length of 20 episodes the complexity of the story seemed appropriate. And I found it delightful even up to episodes 18-20 when just a few k-cliches showed up in the main characters behavior that pointed to "time to rush the ending". Although the romantic relationships lacked zing and skin-ship, there is a pleasant and happy ending.

Key Attributes:
Dialogue was A+++; almost entirely free of annoying phrases or exasperating pauses.
20 episodes were just right 👍🏾👍🏾
Jeon So Nee portrayed a believable heroine who is emotionally mature
Love story between Jae Yi falling for Lee Hwan was delightful. Jae Yi displays a natural and refreshing joy as her feelings develop. Prince Hwan is more reserved, and it matched his personality.
All Character crafting (by writers) was coherent and consistent throughout. Another A+++ especially the villains that make you spit nails
Use of Humor as a balance and part of understanding the characters was great 👍🏾👍🏾
No overly intense cliff hangers (IMO)

With well written, believable characters, and wonderful dialogue I found watching this intensely enjoyable. Highly recommend it!!

Park Hyung Sik is back with a bang!!

Whooey!!!!!! :D After a LOOOONG wait finally a kick ass FL.
LOVED how role has been written and the actress fits to a T.

And of course Park Hyung Sik amongst the MOST talented actors who can hold his act taut and without missing a beat.
He shone in HAPPINESS, Bong Soon, Heirs, and YES got second lead syndrome in Hwarang, stole the show inspite of being the second couple.

He's right up there in acting chops (and yumminess) with Kim Woo Bin / Park Bo Gum / Park Seo Jun / Lee Jun Ho / Nam Joo Hyuk.

And FL we can expect her to make her mark with this show.
Something about her is almost Kim Tae Ri.

How I wish I could have binged on this (all 20 episodes).

The fact that the writer of this show also wrote Romance is a Bonus Book / Discovery of Romance / Because its the First Time each with STRONG WOMEN roles I think this will end up with VERY HIGH ratings. Predicting a mydramalist rating of 8.5/9.0 at the least.

Park Hyung-sik really don't miss

I trust PHS with his drama choices as the dramas he always chooses are great. his acting never misses either. him and so nee are such a visual pairing that though only 2 episodes have aired so far, I'm loving their chemistry with one another. the story is another one of those historical dramas that has the higher ups being wicked and twisted trying to take advantage of the people below them. But the writing in this story elevates it to an even better story. first you got so nee's character who is trying to avenge her family and also trying to clear her name. then you have Hyung-sik's character just trying to get rid of the "Curse."

The costume department did amazing as well. The Hanboks the ladies have is genuinely majestic and they are so beautiful to look at. so nee is a strong and resilient female lead and I always love kdrama female leads who don't let themselves get walked over. I believe the romance is going to blossom into a beautiful and intense love story as the show progresses and I'm excited to see where it, and the other sub plots will go. with 18 episodes remaining, y'all should start watching now and get caught up frfr

Our Blooming Youth is a strange title for a clunky drama. The purpose of this drama, despite ghostly flourishes and dramatic Dum Dum DUM music, seems to be to throw two people together and make it look like an epic love story. So we have the crown prince meeting the FL, a suspected murderer, who appears to have shot an arrow at him. He ends up dragging her to his tent for questioning. By the wrist, naturally. That’s after she performs the usual fall off a cliff into water trope and sneaking into town disguised as one of a group-of-(VERY unobservant) soldiers thing. Sigh. When the Female Lead later pulls out a big dagger, cuts herself free of her bonds, and attacks a guard I think we’re supposed to be impressed by how badass she is. But all I could think of was that the guard must have flunked Introduction to Bodyguarding where they teach you to search somebody for weapons BEFORE you tie them up. It all feels contrived and formulaic and Park Hyung Sik seems to be sleepwalking through his role looking as bored as I feel. There are the usual scheming old ministers, including Jung Woon-In playing the baddie as always. Nothing new to see here.
