Horrible

A male lead that can't act, he has one facial expression for every scene in every role I've seen him in. Female lead doing a respectable job. But the worst part is the absolutely horrific writing.

We are supposed to believe that the ml is in love with the female lead for exactly what reason? She comes from a family of despicable people. She lies to him from the very start, putting him in extreme danger when she said she'd protect him. Then she proceeds to get drunk every episode. She blames the ml for all the bad that's happening around her. She's too stupid to realize her father and cohorts are the bad people. So why is the ml simping on her? I won't be watching past episode 10 so i can only imagine she must be his childhood first love somehow.

Instead of liking and rooting for the leads i can't stand either character. I don't know which one i can't stand more, the dumb whining crying drunk fl or the dumb ml who loves her and simps for her for no reason all while lying to her so that she hates him and not her father. The worst writing I've seen in the last 2 years of horribly written shows.

Saw a preview where the empress, obviously a woman, becomes a man in the army 🤦‍♂️And she said a couple of sentences to him as a sick boy to confirm the dumb childhood love. Such an awful show

ugly make up, good story lost in maximizing pain by stupid script writer

The make up artist should be SACKED. Imagine giving the ML with EAR to EAR eyebrows nearly straight across the nose bridge! Is this cartoon? This is supposedly professional make up?? UGLY as HELL .

The story has great potential but the real story is lost because the script writer is OBSESSED with maximizing pain ! To do that, she made the FL stupid, endangering herself at every turn and the ML is having to sacrifice himself repeatedly to the end point.

The real story is about the power play between the ML and the grand tutor Ling. The focus should be on how to defeat the culprit It's a fantastic story but instead of the fantastic story the script writer destroyed it by the determination to cause pain between the leads

The script writer obviously DISRESPECT women, (ALL the women here are thoughtless, crazy and headstrong)The men are chauvinistic -making decisions and failing to communicate with the women in the guise of "protecting"her, that's not love, that's disrespectful of women and super chauvinist
This is the calibre of this script writer !!

Book is different from drama. People who read books can cry all they like but dramas are for entertainment, therefore there's No need to adhere to the book to maximise pain. Tear jerking doesn't automatically make your product "arty", in fact it's a big TURN OFF

It's stupid mistakes and pain throughout with no growth or correction of the miscommunication which is what real love should be, this is just chauvinistic ML and headstrong FL -REPEATEDLY

The actors are extremely good but the script only serves to anger and spoiled my mood

I stopped at episode 14, I had enough. And I read of the ending which proved to me that the entire purpose is just to inflict pain when the object should be to display the fantastic power play and how to defeat the culprit. Somehow the main story of the culprit is LOST in the obsession with inflicting pain

Tear jerking DON'T make it a work of art, it's just a waste of good talent and good story made to become trashy tear jerking tool

Don't waste your time . It's totally UNENJOYABLE

Very bad storyline and acting

I think the male lead is good but the FML, omg i think shes over doing it. Her acting so bad and theres no chemistry between the main roles. Storyline wise, i think this is by far the stupiest series i have ever watched. Its so stupid and doesnt make sense. The FML likes to jump the gun too soon and makes everything about her. And the ML like to lie unnecessarily just to create drama. Both of them are annoying and i cant stand watching this series. I survived episode 11 only. And to be honest the ML and FML are both not good looking especially the FML makes it harder to watch. Thank god the ML has a charismatic aura and he suits to be the emperor but thats about it. The storyline is so obvious and theres no mystery around it. So my rating would 1/10 for this series.

Worthless

Why is it the further u watch these dramas the more stupid they get like the emperor could fight and kill all kind of people and now he acts like a fag a don’t do anything I know it’s just a show but for real they act so stupid and ignorant there so clueless if that’s the way they were back then its pitiful the author need to go back a change the ending to all these dramas cuz instead of making them worth watching we just scroll threw the episode just my point of view

Drama is a Little Dissapointing but I'll Watch it to the End.

The main leads were not utilized to show their acting skills. I'm happy to see Peng Xiao Ran in a few action, fight scenes. Although she's done quite a few costume dramas, this is the first I've seen her with a sword and fighting. It's disappointing that there is no intimate behavior in this drama. The main leads have a platonic relationship but love each other. Can't figure this one out. I'm watching this drama because I'm a fan of Peng Xiao Ran. Ren Jia Lun always has a sour look on his face with a stiff posture in all the films I've seen him in, and intimacy with his female leads are normally slim to none, as in this drama. I'll keep watching and maybe it will get better towards the end.

Mediocre at best

I loved "goodbye my princess" , "Blue whisper" & "Love of Nirvana" so I was expecting something great, promo was so promising. Unfortunately Ren Jia Lun looked bored in almost every scene he was in and I kind of understand him. Story was indeed boring, same as his one type face expression. There was nothing memorable in the soundtrack, usually these series come with great soundtrack and there is at least one tune which you would remember. The entire production looks like this was shot back in 2015 but was released in 2025 for some reason. I would forgive it if we had some good side characters and sub plot, but none was actually interesting or memorable. The only good thing here was Peng Xiao Ran.

Love and Crown was a project I was genuinely excited for. I adore Allen Ren—his character choices and the types of stories he gravitates toward are usually ones I end up loving. And it’s been a while since I’ve really followed Peng Xiao Ran’s work, so her involvement added even more to my anticipation.

But the first episode completely threw me off. I know I shouldn’t have let the early news and reviews influence me, but they definitely colored my expectations. It felt strange starting in the “present” timeline, only to be abruptly taken to the past in episode two. I had to rewind several times just to figure out what happened. What exactly were the director or screenwriter trying to accomplish? Were they trying to build hype with the Goodbye My Princess parallels, only to jump back in time immediately after? It left me with so many questions, and I really wish the editing and story flow had been handled more smoothly.

Right now, I’m debating whether to put this series on hold or make it a slow, in-between watch while I catch up on other dramas. Honestly, I’m leaning toward the latter. I just really hope this series won’t disappoint the way many others have suggested. I don’t mind the comparisons to Goodbye My Princess—short series often share similar tropes anyway. What matters to me is seeing solid chemistry between the leads and a storyline that actually pulls me in.

This will be an ongoing review, current score is at 6/10

i am skipping through eps hoping for the fl to do atleast give us something

Okay, this is the first time I am watching this fl drama's and to keep it short, SHE CAN'T ACT.
I don't know what it is, but her acting is way too off, like watching her act, you tell she is acting. idk why, but it seems like she is trying so hard to show her face card that she doesn't even try to make her acting real.
I am on episode 8, hoping that something happens while the plot gives us nothing. I HATE those miscommunication tropes with my whole heart, like what do you mean all this would be okay if y'all just calmed your titts down and had a peaceful conversation?
Like y'all are legit doing nothing except serving facecard (actor's face is never declining)
So, in short, watch this drama if you have NOTHING going on in your life and just want to see hot people make worse choices and then try to make it seem like they are in love? Hope this makes sense.
And just to say it out loud, ML acting isn't impressive either, it's just that ik he acts bad (I have watched mr and Miss Crow a long time ago, i don't know if that's the right title, and no, I don't want to Google it to find out)

One Episode Was Enough: The Most Ridiculous, and Poorly Conceived Opening That Deserved a Quick Drop

Episode 1 might be the most ridiculous episode I’ve ever seen — at least the most nonsensical one I can remember. This is the first time I’ve ever written a review after watching just the first episode.

This time, he didn’t murder her grandfather like in Goodbye My Princess; instead, he killed her master (for a reason that hasn’t been explained yet in Episode 1). A different victim, but the same recycled dynamic.

The heroine, played by the same actress from Goodbye My Princess, feels like she’s portraying the exact same character all over again. She’s headstrong and disobedient, ignoring an imperial decree as if it were nothing, completely disregarding her father’s warnings — just like in Goodbye My Princess. It’s as if defying the emperor wouldn’t put her entire clan at risk of execution. But she doesn’t care; she just runs away, exactly the same way she did in her previous drama, to avoid marrying the emperor who killed her master.

To make things even more absurd, her adoptive brother helps her escape and even points a sword at the emperor without facing any consequences. It’s predictable that he will later become the love rival.

Then the emperor actually loses his temper and decides he wants to execute her brother right in front of her. He forces her to beg for his life and, in the end, pressures her into agreeing to marry him. She does so very unwillingly. To make her obedient, the emperor presents her with her brother’s finger — which he had cut off as a warning.

It’s completely ridiculous. This is my personal form of boycott: after just one episode, I’m done. I’ve written my review of Episode 1, and honestly, I think it’s time we start demanding stories that go beyond these stupid, repetitive, and recycled tropes. Without exaggeration, this episode is one of the most nonsensical and poorly conceived openings I have ever seen.

I have no intention of continuing — not because of anything personal against the actors or fans (everyone is free to enjoy what they enjoy), but because, for me, this kind of writing is truly insulting.

Should have read the reviews first.

I really like Ren Jia Lun, have enjoyed performances of several others in the cast in other shows. Bit lukewarm about Peng Xiao Ran, probably because I've only seen her once before in a not great role. All in all, I was looking forward to this drama.

BUT! Did a 12 year old write the script? So stilted, so cringe. Honestly, how did the writer convince a studio that this was good writing? No, I'm not a writer but I know what a good script sounds like. This isn't it.

When I can't get through the first episode without jumping out every few minutes I know it's not going to get better. I refuse to torture myself by watching good actors struggle.

By the way, was Ren I'll during filming? He looks gaunt.
