An average but likable drama
I gave My Boss a try because I like the male lead actor. I’ve seen some of his previous dramas, including Love Between Lines, and I really like both his acting and his appearance. The ML's character has a great sense of style, carries himself well, and truly looks like a lawyer. His comic timing is also quite good—I really enjoyed the humorous scenes.
I also liked one of his assistants, Bao Rui. He is quite funny and entertaining. In fact, I liked all three of his assistants—Bao Rui and the other two as well. The other two, as a couple, have good chemistry and look really cute together.
I also liked the ML’s best friend, Wu Jun, who is also his business partner. He is quite funny and sweet. I especially liked the way he was emotionally invested in the female lead’s sister, as he truly loved her.
As for the FL, initially she was quite enjoyable to watch. She was cute, funny, and expressive. Also i liked how eager she was to learn from her boss and improve herself. She seemed like a very dedicated employee who was genuinely willing to learn new things.
Another interesting character is the male lead’s mother. She is quite funny, and I loved watching her on screen.
Even the negative character—the woman who became a partner in the ML’s company and also liked him—was well portrayed. She was jealous of the female lead and created problems for her. Her acting was very convincing; she really made me dislike her, which means she did a great job in her role.
The female lead’s sister also stood out to me. She looks quite mature, is very beautiful, and truly looks like a lawyer.
Now, coming to the things I didn’t like—initially, the ML’s character was quite dominating and rude. He was quite torturing the FL. He made her work overtime, and even when she went back to home, he expected her to cook for him twice and clean the house as well. He was always threatening her with things like her year-end bonus and other consequences. It honestly felt like torture, and it was disheartening to watch the FL being overworked and treated that way.
The male lead is shown as very professional, but treating employees like this is the complete opposite of being professional. Also, whenever he had personal issues—whether it was insomnia or later his problems with the female lead— he would take out his anger on his assistants. That was not professional at all.
The FL's character, especially in the initial episodes, was portrayed as extremely kind, cute although extremely naive. Even though she was a rookie lawyer, she was quite sincere in her work. I like how dedicated she was towards her work and how eager she was to learn from her boss.
However, her styling throughout the drama was quite disappointing. Her dress sense was very poor, and she hardly dressed formally, even in the office. I understand that she was a struggling, rookie lawyer and maybe the director wanted to show that, but you don’t need expensive outfits to look professional. She often wore jeans and baggy clothes, which didn’t make her look like a lawyer at all. She didn’t appear professional most of the time. Only once or twice did she dress properly, like when she borrowed her sister’s clothes to meet her parents. Her hairstyle was also not well done throughout the drama.
Up until the ML confessed his feelings, her character was enjoyable to watch. But after the confession, it felt like she lost all her expressions and liveliness. Even though she accepted his feelings, the romance that followed felt very bland. It seemed like she wasn’t really into the male lead and didn’t look happy at all.
I’m not sure if this was the director’s choice to show her becoming more mature, but maturity doesn’t mean removing all liveliness from a character. Or maybe the actress wasn’t able to portray romantic emotions effectively. It was quite disheartening to see that most of the effort in the relationship came only from the male lead. The FL didn’t seem to reciprocate properly. Her smiles and expressions didn’t reflect someone who is in love. Instead, she often looked tired or unwell because of her lack of expression.
Both the male and female leads have flaws in their characters. I understand that the female lead wanted to become a good lawyer and make a name for herself in the industry. However, she was aware that the male lead was significantly older than her. If she didn’t have the time or willingness to put effort into the relationship, she probably shouldn’t have accepted his confession in the first place. It might have been better for her to choose someone closer to her age. While I can understand her perspective, it was still disheartening to watch her not properly reciprocate his love.
As for the ML, even though his intentions were to protect her and help her grow into a successful lawyer, some of his actions created problems for her. Repeatedly implying or telling others that she was his GF made her work life more difficult. This eventually led to her changing companies. Even then, when he openly acknowledged their relationship, people started seeing her only as his GF rather than as an individual.
I understand that his intentions were good—he wanted to support and protect her—but this was exactly what she didn’t want. She wanted to succeed on her own and build her identity as a lawyer. His behavior sometimes made her feel inferior, as if she wasn’t capable on her own. It also didn’t help that others labeled her as a “bimbo” or just an eye candy who was successful only because she was dating the boss. That’s why she wanted to prove herself independently, which is completely valid. I think he should have understood this earlier, but I’m glad that eventually he did understand what she truly wanted.
I didn’t like how the ML’s other admirer—the woman who later became a partner in the company and had one-sided feelings for him—was handled. She treated the female lead very badly, yet she left without facing any real consequences. She didn’t even properly apologize, which was the least she could have done. That was quite frustrating to watch.
As for the second ML, Wu Jun, I generally liked his character throughout the drama. However, this was the only time I disagreed with his actions. In the name of mediating between the main ML and that female lawyer, he let her go without consequences. As the ML pointed out, it would have been appropriate to involve the police, but Wu Jun seemed more concerned about her career. At the same time, the female lead’s career could have been seriously damaged if she hadn’t won the case, especially since that woman had tampered with crucial evidence. Being neutral in such situations is not always right—sometimes you have to stand for what is fair and just. I really hoped that the female lawyer would face consequences for her unprofessional and toxic behavior. At the very least, she should have been removed from the company or resigned on her own. But nothing like that happened. Instead, she simply went to the UK for further studies. It felt unsatisfying, especially because it suggests that she might return later and still become a partner in the company. Although this wasn’t shown, the last update about her was just that she was leaving for the UK.
Regarding the ending, I’ve noticed this pattern in many K and C-dramas: the story is stretched until the second-to-last episode, and then everything is rushed in the final episode. This makes the ending feel abrupt and incomplete. Only a few dramas truly feel like they have a satisfying and well-rounded conclusion. In this case, the ending felt unsatisfactory. It was shown that the FL still wanted to become a partner in the ML’s company, and earlier she had mentioned needing about five years to achieve that goal. However, the time skip shown was too short. The child shown in the final episode belonged to the second lead, and the main couple didn’t even properly get married on screen. If the drama shows proposals and hints at marriage—like teasing the male lead by calling him her husband—then it should also show the actual wedding. Otherwise, it feels incomplete. The time skip should have been longer, and they could have shown her becoming a partner first, followed by their proper marriage. Even the wedding scene shown in the last episode felt rushed and underwhelming. The bride and groom didn’t even look like they were getting married—they were dressed casually, and there was no proper ceremony or ring exchange shown.
Overall, the ending lacked depth and closure. A longer time skip and a proper wedding would have made it much more fulfilling, showing both leads as successful in their careers and happily married.
Overall, the drama is watchable, likable and funny. However, as I mentioned, there are several aspects that could have been handled better, which would have made the drama much more satisfying.

Great drama but had potential to be better
This drama is cute and both leads are in their first relationship so watching them learn together was really cute. On the other hand, I was sometimes getting second hand embarrassment because of the fact that it was their first relationship. For example, their first kiss was soooo embarrassing. They obviously hadn’t kissed before and they both closed their eyes. He wanted to kiss her on her lips but since his eyes were closed he missed her lips and kissed her corner lips/her cheek. The sound effect to make it more embarrassing really did it job cause I had to pause the drama out of embarrassment! Anyways, I really loved Wu Jun (ML’s best friend) and Cheng Xi (FL’s sister), they formed a great mature couple, hey should have their own drama tgt. Plus, their visuals were matching. Their was another couple, Tang Yang and the other guy, in the office, really nice and mature couple, loved them! The ending was rushed but I guess like a lot of Chinese dramas. The ending wasn’t that great as their wedding was super rushed and the kid wasn’t theirs but WuJun’s and Cheng Xi’s. It would have made sense if they had more screen time. Overall great drama. Was this review helpful to you?

A Relationship with Flaws
I picked this up because I like the actor Chen Xing Xu. He’s a very versatile actor and I have seen him act in different roles. After watching it, I regret not watching this sooner and it is also what led me to write this review.Chen Xing Xu acts as Qian Zheng a cold and strict person to himself and those around him. He has a very strict outlook on life and his own personal ideals. Which led him to success as a lawyer, as he is able to handle any case with a calm and steady mindset with only his clients claims in mind. On the other hand, our female lead Cheng Yao, a rookie lawyer, got into his law firm through some back door and perceives life in a more gentle and naive sense, which led to much conflict. Throughout the story, we see both of them grow their careers and how they both influence each other. They mostly handle family disputes (divorces, inheritances, etc.) so you will rarely see them in court, since cases like these are settled out of court.
I love the story a lot, it is very realistic and there’s no sugarcoating when the FL makes mistakes. While she does get few chances, she learns from it and improves. We see her shape as a lawyer and as an independent woman and it is amazing to see.
Though watching her get many chances and knight in shining armor brings you back to the fact that this is a drama. It infuriates some people who knows if they commit any of the mistakes she was committing, they would have been fired instantly and pushed to face the blame, so that no harm will come to the law firm. I like the fact that it was mentioned as an option, and common practice to do this. So watching the first half of the show was a bit frustrating watching her so naive. While she does get saved by the ML, we see her standing up for herself towards the end. The last couple of episodes was her showcasing her growth, while she has studied under ML, she took what she learned applied her own ideas into the way she handle cases. She didn’t let go of her gentleness, but used what she learned from her mistakes to prevent any mishaps in happening and she aims for clients interests. Not just what client specified which is the ML way to go, but consideration for the overall outcome and with both sides interests in mind.
Overall I will rewatch this, when I run out of stuff to watch. It’s a sweet drama and watch ML treat FL throughout the series was SO SWEET. The best part are the supports, they got me cackling at their jokes and FL co workers way in treating each other was just so heartwarming. Both ML and FL are flawed, they have problems, but are willing to listen to each other and learn. We see them grow as persons and by the end of the story, we see ML learning from FL. Showing how much FL as grown from being told off on what she should do to backing up her input with solid evidence.

Bao Rui was the real star in this drama
I liked the cast, songs and it was pretty cute and fun.Everthing was fine besides the FL.... Unfortunatly Cheng Yao was kinda annoying most of the time and without a reason.
I hope to see Chen XingXu in another dramas in future, because his acting was too good here.
Finally, Bao Rui was the real star in this drama. He made us laugh in every episode, also the rest of the staff were so funny.

clingyness overload!!
My Boss (2024) turned out to be an unexpectedly emotional and engaging ride. While the storyline had its ups and downs, what truly carried the drama for me were the incredible performances from the cast and the beautiful, heartfelt OSTs. Zhou Yiran and Sabrina Zhuang gave such natural, compelling performances that you couldn’t help but root for them even when the script didn’t always do their characters justice. One thing that stood out in a negative way was the portrayal of the male lead. While the actor delivered a strong performance, the writing gave him traits that made him hard to root for at times. He was overly clingy, controlling, and lacked a proper redemption arc. There were moments where a deeper exploration of his flaws and true growth could’ve made his character more redeemable, but instead, his development felt rushed or brushed off. This imbalance was frustrating especially because Ruonan was written with more emotional depth, maturity, and restraint.
Despite this, the chemistry between the leads, the emotionally loaded dialogues, and the warmth of the supporting cast helped make the show memorable. The soundtrack added another level of poignancy, often elevating scenes with its timing and sentiment.
Overall, My Boss (2024) is still a worthwhile drama to watch especially if you love slow-burn romances and character-driven narratives. Just don’t expect a perfectly balanced love story.

Review of About My Boss
“About My Boss” had potential, but the pacing really dragged down the overall experience. The storyline felt unnecessarily slow, making it difficult to stay engaged. One of the biggest disappointments was the female lead. Her character, much like in her previous roles, came across as passive and helpless. It’s frustrating to see someone studying law yet consistently failing to apply it when it matters most. The lack of meaningful communication between the leads was another issue—it took over 21 episodes for any real progress to happen. By then, I found myself skipping through scenes just to get to something substantial.
This drama could have been much better with tighter writing, more dynamic characters, and a plot that actually moves. Some of these series really need a thoughtful rewrite to live up to their potential.

From Clashing to a True Partnership
My Boss can be a bit tropey and even a little frustrating at times, but if you stick with it, the character growth is actually rewarding. It’s less about a typical "mean boss" and more about two people learning how to actually respect and support each other as equals. What I Enjoyed:
Heng’s Transformation: He starts off as your typical "rockstar" lawyer—brilliant but pretty arrogant and emotionally stunted. Watching him slowly realize he doesn't have all the answers was the best part. He goes from "butting in" and being overbearing to someone who is actually humble enough to admit when he’s wrong. It’s a huge change, and he becomes a much better partner because of it.
Yao’s Confidence: I loved watching Yao find her footing. She struggles with a lot of insecurity and "imposter syndrome" early on, but she grows so much backbone. She doesn't just "shrink" to fit into Heng’s world; she earns her spot at the table and eventually shows him that her way of doing things (with more heart and empathy) is just as valid as his cold logic.
The Takeaway:
The show is a great look at what happens when two high-achievers stop competing and start collaborating. They both had to do a lot of work to get there—there’s plenty of "growing pains" and communication mishaps—but seeing them finally get on the same page is so satisfying.
The Verdict: It’s a solid watch if you enjoy seeing a relationship where both people actually have to change and grow to make it work. It’s not a perfect journey, but the "win-win" ending makes the frustrating moments worth it!

Fluffy Office Romance
Ep 1-30 - enjoyed it more than I expectedEp 31-35 - unnecessary episodes (lost its momentum, I practically fast forward the last three episodes just getting the whole gist of what happened so I could finish it)
Storyline (boss-employee & housemate romance) - cliche but done well except on the last 5 episodes. The chemistry between the two characters is great.
Family law concept - the cases in this drama compared to other law dramas I watched are just so-so. They failed on this concept.
Female lead - I don't get how the FL was cheated by the ML with all those "housemate rules" or double rental issue when she is a lawyer herself. Some of his demands, which the FL readily followed, are ridiculous. Her character development is also not that solid.
Male Lead - character development is better than FL, from being an a-hole boss to best boyfriend. The best ML in all dramas in deflecting the advances of other woman. Hello if only he exists in real life!
The three assistant lawyers are the best. I love them! I feel like their characters have more depth than the FL and ML. They help make the story more enjoyable. The scene when they know that the fl and ml are in relationship is so funny. Their expressions are so spot on!
Overall, it was one of those dramas that started out surprising so well "omg this is good" until it feels dragging there is a good chance you'll likely drop it.

this was a 6, the last episodes made it a 3
I was about to rate this drama a 6, just because of some enjoyable moments but the episode 33 made me change my mind. This drama is a roller coaster... And not in a good way.
You know the plot: young lawyer starts working in a law firm, ends up in a forced coliving situation with her boss and falls in love.
We know the gist, nothing new, but when watching Rom coms we know what we are getting into. So, no problem on that side.
The problem in this show is the inconsistency and frankly boredom.
The first 7 episodes are a fever dreams. The FL is frankly annoying as hell and the ml is a psycho (in these first 7 episodes).
The 2 meet while renting the same apartment simultaneously. The Land Lord made a mistake and rented it twice. This girl establishes she is rightful attenent just "because" and is being very rude and unreasonable. I mean, the ml is the same spot as you..
The ml is a psycho. He can only think in terms of the "law". Citing law article for every minute matters and always talking as he has no soul.
Fortunately is gets better on this aspect, but worse on others.
The FL is supposed to be a fiercefull lawyer full of principles etc, meanwhile she is unable to do any work basically. At first. Her boss is constantly saving her ass and I get it, she is a newbie. After a while she solves cases because someone "randomly" says stuff and a bulb lights up in her head.
Her clients get constantly mistreated and she just stands there saying nothing. I wanted to slap her son many times.
The male lead on the other hand constantly talks about not mixing private and professional lives while mingling in his subordinate's live.
Threatening her to retain her bonuses if she doesn't do as he sees fit.
In one episodes, the FL leads is courted by a friends and the ml just invites himself over not once but twice and the only thing she can do is sit there spacing out...
Where is her combative side supposed to be?
After episode 7, the show becomes a normal rom com. We see them getting closer, talking about cases and it is entertaining.
At the 3/4 marks when they start dating the show just becomes so boring.
Please. We had enough of good looking 30 years old who never had a love story.
Good aspect: the FL collegues. Even though they don't have a story line of their own they are funny, supporting and frankly pleasent to watch.
Ep 27. Let's start fast forwarding.... Boring scenes of them being a couple and saying ultra sweet lame stuff....
Man this last 10 episode are a struggle. I agree with other reviewers about the fact that the characters switched personality. The FL lead was at first bubbly and the ml was cold, distant. Now she looks chronicly depressed and he looks like a happy puppy.
Ep 33. The ml gets on my nerves. This guy preached fairness, professionalism all along but keeps getting into his fiance's matters. She is having lunch with her new collegues trying to build a new path for her, and what does he do?
He comes unannounced, interrupts her, and starts marking "his " territory.
And she barely says anything.
Man I dislike them strongly....
Ep 34v She finally realized he is bossing her around all the time.. wow girl... Weren't you supposed such a smart ass?
Ep 36. they should have broken up. both have toxic behaviors towards each other.
frankly the last episodes were depressing to watch. the FL wasn't a stellar performer in the first place, but the last episodes really should she has no range.
as boring as it can get
Stay away from this drama. There is nothing so good here to be worth this much time.

I’ve watched a lot of dramas, but this one seriously tests your patience. **My Boss** tries way too hard to look cute and wholesome, and ends up becoming unrealistic and frustrating.
Let’s talk about the male lead. He’s written like some “perfect green flag” — soft, caring, calm — but suddenly flips into an overreactive, irrational person when the plot demands it. A lawyer who should be logical and composed decides to escalate things to the police over a personal situation, fully knowing it could destroy someone’s career? That’s not intensity, that’s poor writing.
The biggest issue is inconsistency. Characters don’t behave like real people — they behave like puppets. One moment they’re mature, the next moment they’re making decisions that make zero sense, just to create drama. It feels forced, artificial, and honestly a bit insulting to the viewer’s intelligence.
The love triangle and jealousy angle? Overused. The misunderstandings? Dragged out. Emotional scenes feel less impactful because they’re built on weak logic.
This isn’t a case of a flawed character — this is flawed writing. Instead of building depth, the show relies on exaggeration and unrealistic reactions to keep things “interesting,” but it backfires.
**Final Verdict:**
Good concept, wasted by inconsistent writing and forced drama. If you like over-the-top emotional chaos, maybe it works. But if you expect smart characters and believable decisions, this will just frustrate you.
**Rating: 5/10**

The MOST rewatchable modern-office drama so far...
Truth to be told, I don't usually write nor leave review on shows I've watched, but for the first time in my life, I felt the urge to do so... That, of course, I don't know why. It might be because I genuinely loved the drama itself or it made a strong emotional impression on me. Nonetheless, I am still gonna share the perspective I came up after rewatching the series for the nth time.First, the FL and ML pairing is one of a kind. To be exact, I think that the actors who portrayed fitted the best, especially CXX for his brilliant understanding of Qian Heng. As for the FL, the actress also did a good job. Their onscreen dynamics are just quite eyecatching and totally gives off the romantic vibe. Although, I must admit sometimes the FL kinda annoys me with her uncalled weird facial expressions whenever she talks on some scenes. No offense but it's cringe and stupid. Secondly, I'm hooked with it's plot that it has less drama and stressful. Third and foremost, the supporting characters and secondary couples are absolutely perfect and indeed, eyecandy for viewers. Amd last but not the least, the rollercoaster ride of emotions I've encountered and relieved whilst following the series gave me immeasureable contrasting feelings I never thought I would feel on a Cdrama production, knowing I've lost my fondness of it eons ago.
Anyhow, I wanted to say that if you love a light, healthy, and blissful office-romcom/boss-assistant-subordinate relationship, this drama is one of the highlights of a topnotch prod in years.
