I wish the FL character was more intelligent
I really like the drama so far! I really love the acting of both the actress and the actor. However, I am so annoyed with the writing of the FLs character. Like why is the character development?! She is just being annoying at this point and adds no value to the unfolding storyline. She's suppose to be a key figure but all she does is being annoyed and wary and the ML instead of actually listening to him. Also all she can say is that the story will be like how the writer wants it to be, especially when it is about Nan Heng. But then again she wants to go AGAINST the story, which doesn't make sense at all.
I wish her character was more developed.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
It has a great cast and backgrounds and environments are excellent. What isn't? The plot and story. At first it was great. I really enjoyed the first 5 or so episodes. But then... NOTHING SEEMED TO BE HAPPENING. I started getting bored around episode 15 and after that everything became so much more frustrating. If the writers couldn't write a plot, they could at least have shaved it down to half of the episodes so it was more compact and didn't drag on too much. It's funny because it simultaneously mocks terrible plots and is one at the same time. I've watched similar shows before, it can be done well. How not to do it well? Have the characters just lounge around going to parties and stuff where NOTHING HAPPENS.
WHYYYYYYYY?!
There's also issues with the characters. Other than the ML mostly EVERYONE IS STUPID. And the second FL? I hate her guts because WARNING!!!! The second FL attempts to s*x**lly assault the ML! (That doesn't count as a spoiler, right? Just a warning?) WHAT?! And the main FL was great up until around episode 14 or 15. She wants to do good... but she's like "let's kill x!" SHE NEVER LEARNS.
I just couldn't take how STUPID all but two - and then went down to ONE - were being. AHHHHHHH!!!
SOMEONE get the producers to write a fix it for this!!!! PLEASE!!!! (Actually that could be pretty cool. A transported to another world inside of a transported to another world).

One of the worst characterizations I have ever seen
By now I must have covered all the decently rated k-dramas, c dramas out there. If there is one show where I really was scratching my head on what did I just watch, this show will take the award. Not sure why it shows as a comedy, except for first episode, I didn’t feel any other episodes funny, rather want to knock some sense into the female lead and bang my head somewhere to get vested into completing 40 episodes of it.Was this review helpful to you?
1. "A Dream Within a Dream: Stunning Action and Unexpected Depth"
This drama took me by surprise in the best way possible. From the captivating acting to the flawless fight choreography, it delivers an emotionally charged experience wrapped in beautiful visuals and hauntingly poetic storytelling. The acting was top-notch — each character, especially Nan Heng and Song Yimeng, felt raw and grounded. While I did feel a little frustrated with Song Yimeng at times, it only speaks to how invested I was in her journey and how humanly flawed her decisions felt.
The fight scenes? Absolutely phenomenal. Some of the best I’ve ever seen in a Chinese drama. The battle scenes had me rewatching them over and over again — they're that good. Every clash was not just about power but pain, purpose, and character.
The storyline, while emotionally rich and sometimes comedic, could be a bit confusing in parts. Certain plot elements and twists felt like they could’ve been explained or implied more clearly — especially when it comes to the transitions between worlds and character motivations. But even with its complexities, it remains deeply engaging and layered.
The music deserves a standing ovation — 10/10. I especially loved the inclusion of the OSTs from My Journey to You, which added an extra layer of emotional resonance and nostalgia.
Overall, this drama has both heart and depth. It's visually stunning, brilliantly acted, and leaves a lasting impression. I'd definitely recommend it, and it has strong rewatch value — especially if you love beautifully tragic romances, layered characters, and swordplay with substance.
⭐ Final Verdict: A hauntingly beautiful journey worth taking — even if it leaves you a little heartbroken at the end... Because its finished.

ONE OF MY FAV THIS YEAR!
I decided to watch this drama mainly because of Zhu Xudan, since I’ve loved her ever since Love Game in Eastern Fantasy. I’m glad I gave it a try because there were so many things I enjoyed! The story was really engaging up until around episode 32. I found myself completely drawn in, and I was especially impressed by the male lead. He delivered such a strong performance that I am now interested in checking out more of his dramas. The OST was another highlight for me. The music fit the mood perfectly, and I loved it so much that I have added the songs to my personal playlist.
At first, I was frustrated with how the male lead’s story was written, since it felt unfair and unsatisfying in some parts of the earlier episodes. Then, when the screenwriter suddenly appeared in the last episodes, I found it annoying and thought it might ruin the whole experience. But as the story went on, the way the characters changed and grew in those final episodes actually surprised me. By the time I reached the ending, I felt satisfied and even amazed at how it all came together.
Overall, this drama gave me a mix of emotions. There were moments of frustration, but also a lot of enjoyment. The ending really made up for the earlier disappointments, and I can say I loved it. Definitely would rewatch this again!!

PERFECT SOUL CATCHING DRAMA
At first, I thought it was really entertaining, a fun drama, full of references from famous cdrama, playing on a strong comedy/parody side but it's totally addictive and super fun start. Then I saw the romance forming and I loved it. I was so so excited to see where it was going and how everything will unfold.
Finally, when I next woke up from the show, the drama was over without me realizing it...
Not a single one boring episode
I REPEAT
NOT ONE SINGLE BORING EPISODE
In fact the 15 last episodes went by so fast I didn't realize 45minutes went by... It felt more like a 15 minutes long episode and I NEEDED THE NEXT ONE RIGHT NOW
PERFECT STORYLINE
PERFECT PLOTS
PERFECT ENDING (S...) (stay after the credit for the hidden scene!!)
PERFECT PERFORMANCES
PERFECT ACTORS
PERFECT CHARACTERS
PERFECT ROMANCE
PERFECT BROMANCE
PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN FUN AND SERIOUS
VERY VERY GOOD OST <3
PERFECT SOUL CATCHING DRAMA
I want a season 2, I want a rewatch, I don't want it to end, I don't want them to split, I want to know what there is next, I want to stay with them

almost a great drama
interesting use of isekai plot. acting was good, all the side characters were interesting, loved the ML, couldn’t stand the FL character. she ruined the first 30 eps imo. the last 10 eps are complete perfect *chefs kiss* no notes but it was a STRUGGLE to get to them. FL character was the worst and honestly didn’t redeem herself at all she just suddenly became tolerable. her character really needed to atone for all she did to ML and the fact she didn’t kinda ruined the overall experience for meWas this review helpful to you?

A Frustrating Drag Until the End
The biggest problem with this drama is how repetitive the characters' obsessions become. The second male lead is constantly obsessed with blaming the male lead for everything, no matter what happens. The female lead's trust issues are dragged out far longer than necessary, and the emperor remains fixated on believing his own son is guilty. These three repetitive conflicts make up almost 70–80% of the story. It becomes incredibly frustrating . The first 3–5 episodes were enjoyable, with some fun comedy and a promising start, but after that, the drama turns into an exhausting cycle of misunderstandings and dragged-out conflicts. It became so frustrating that I ended up watching the rest at a faster speed just to finish it.
I couldn't see any chemistry between the main couple, no matter how hard I tried. The male lead's love for the female lead was evident, but that alone wasn't enough to create convincing chemistry. A romantic relationship needs mutual emotional connection, and I just didn't feel it between them.
Throughout the entire drama, the female lead kept saying, "This is the script, this is the script," over and over again. It became so repetitive that it was incredibly annoying.
ep 37 If someone says, "We'll live together, we'll die together," the literal meaning is that they'll stand by you and fight alongside you, even if it costs their life. It doesn't mean they'll just stand there watching like the audience. If they aren't helping at all, those words become meaningless and completely illogical.
FL character is so frustrating

the audience are the only sane ones here.
I wasn't planning on watching this drama after seeing some spoilers on Douyin. The famous “三人互捅+大风车 (three way stabbing + big windmill)" scene appeared to be too crazy and too unhinged that I expected a storyline full of plot-holes and lousy character development. But wow? I was blown away by every aspect of this drama, it was the drama (after a long time) where I wanted it to end but I also didn't want it to end at the same time? Anybody feels the same way?But yes, sure, there were some plot-holes here and there. For instance, personally, I could not overlook how the king and Nan Heng's came to a resolution to their conflict. The king was at Nan Heng's throat for years, he had so much suspicions and was plotting different ways of killing Nan Heng off and then...it all just ended because Nan Heng sold his uncle out and also offered to give up his own army? But ok, even if the king was moved by Nan Heng's ways of reaching out to show that he was genuinely on his side, I wouldn't have been moved to the point that I would give him the crown prince role instead of the son that I had doted and pampered on for years. Besides, even before the empress was murdered, the king was never fond of Nan Heng. There were some theories on Douyin speculating that the king and Nan Heng were actually in cahoots together. That they planned this all from the start (or maybe even in the middle) to lure out the mastermind...but it just didn't work out for me.
Ok, that aside (you must be wondering why I even gave this drama a 10) - it's the amazing cast and the main storyline that worked out for me. It's hard to make a story moving, but it's even harder to make the audience laugh. Throughout the entire series, I was laughing and then crying and then doing both at the same time and my emotions were just a mess. Every character had their own character development, there were fairly good reasons behind their actions. I was so attached to every one of them (apart from Chu Gui Hong, but there's no denying that the actor playing him is stellar and is also a hottie), I had such a hard time bidding farewell. I was scrolling Douyin for days to catch up on their interactions, to watch their behind the scenes and just getting to know them. Even actors whom I had initial doubts for (e.g., Bambi and Liu Yu Ning), overturned my own unfavourable biased views of them in this drama. Actors whom I always liked (e.g., Li Yi Tong and Riley Wang), were accentuated by the roles that they played. And I also found underdog actors whom I look forward to seeing them again in another drama (the actors who played Ah Hu, Ah Long and Fu Gui - adorable ).
Although the story seemed insane and all over the place, there were times when side characters do pull us back to the lessons that the writer wants to tell us (and I love it, because it gives all these side characters a purpose in existing in the story). For example, when Fu Gui tries to convince Nan Heng that it didn't matter whether they were just characters in a story, as long as he is able to live the way he wants, he's satisfied. And it's the same for us living in this world, no? Song Yi Meng's character also taught us not to be clouded by our own judgment, every living being has a story and without knowing it, we should never set whatever we think we know of them in stone.
I love this drama and it'll be a drama that will be hard to beat for years to come. It's sad that this drama isn't a "proper" drama and probably wouldn't be considered for awards in year-end award shows. But even without the awards, I hope the entire cast and crew know that they have done such an outstanding job. From the costumes to the music and sound effects (I heard they spent a big portion of their budget on buying the copyrights for them), everything was flawless. It is no wonder that it is a drama that is so heavily discussed on social media platforms. It is a drama that offers you both a happy ending and a sad ending (if you stop watching at Ep 37) - it's like the childhood books that we read where we can determine where or how we want the ending to be.
I highly recommend this drama! You can watch and enjoy this drama however way you want - if you'd like to think and discuss about open-ended endings, this drama is for you. If you want a lighthearted and romantic story, this drama is for you. It is what you want it to be and I think that's what great about it! :)

Frustrating. Screenwriter botched up a good concept (pun intended)
Concept is good. Cast was really good. Facecards of ML and FL really good. Watched only for ML.Fast forwarded whole show.
FL was good-looking but annoying character (screenwriter issue) as script was not very smart in using her knowledge of the future to good use. Some decisions she made was also childish n not well-thought out.) closure could be better in last min scene after credits.
