Love the chemistry between the FL and ML

Slowly getting back to watching my cdramas and I'm glad that I chose to watch Mr. Bad as it was long waited for me. I was happy and pleasantly satisfied with the drama being a lighthearted, romcom with plenty funny/comedy scenes which I didn't expect to laugh so much. Not my first time watching Shenyue (why I chose this show) but was my first time watching Chen Zheyuan and he has my stamp of approval! They both did a great job and I love the chemistry between them, they are so cute together and everything just flows so naturally. I would highly recommend this drama to anyone interested in these genre of shows. I hope to see them reunite for another drama in the future!

Super Cute and Great Casting!

Who doesn’t love Shen Yue, most famous for, Meteor Garden and A Love so Beautiful. She’s just tiny, bubbly and her acting is really good. I’m a fan of Chen Zhe Yuan from Handsome Siblings and so it was nice to see him in a rom-com role. The chemistry between the two great actors was there and I enjoyed the banter between them the most.

I truly believe this drama could have had higher ratings or 10 stars, had it not been for the secondary couple. Oh my goodness, the secondary couple Lu Zi Chen (the boss) and Ye Qing (the President) was so boring. I thought they were really pretty and I truly tried to get into their storyline, but for the life of me, I couldn’t hold on to them. I had to fast forward all of their parts.

Even though the secondary couple wasn’t a great storyline, I just focused most of my attention on the main leads. I liked the fact the ML was from the past and he didn’t need to have a silly scene where he tried to figure out the modern world. I really liked they bypassed that and just had him read a bunch of books.

I do hope Shen Yue will pick a melo-drama or a role where she doesn’t play the frumpy girl anymore. Gah, the wardrobe on her was just horrible and even her glow-up was disappointing. Then you have the complete opposite where the ML has an amazing wardrobe and he always looked like he stepped off the runway. Love the cape coat in the last scene! I also appreciate that they NEVER wore clothing twice (maybe once or twice). It truly makes a difference.

The tone of the show was always light-hearted and even during the serious parts, it wasn’t over-the-top, just the right amount to give the story some heart and warmth. I laughed a lot and what I enjoyed most was the low angst and the kindness between the main leads. Even though there was some light banter, at the end of the day, they were very kind to each other. That’s what I want to watch.

Overall, I thought this drama was the rom-com I needed to put a smile on my face and give me that happy vibes I always like when I watch my C dramas. LOVE the casting on the leads. I 100% recommend.

Cute

I absolutely loved the premise of the male lead arriving in the present day from 500 years ago. His fish-out-of-water moments were incredibly funny! The chemistry between the main leads was a highlight for me, especially when he first arrived from the palace as a "young master." It was also refreshing to have a story without genuinely evil villains to ruin the mood, and I thought their wedding vows were adorable.
However, I have to be honest: I was very disappointed by the ending. The fact that it felt like their love story never actually happened ruined the experience for me. That ending is the only reason I’m not giving this a full 10 stars.

So Much More Than a Rom-Com

I went into this thinking it was just going to be a cute, fluffy rom-com. To a degree, it was. But, it was so much more than that. Chen Zhe Yuan continues to show why he's one of my favourite actors. This had depth! It showed a re-occurring trauma. It showed how Nan Xing and Ni Na came together and created a family from tragedy. I wasn't a huge fan of how Xiao Jun treated Nan Xing in the flashbacks until the very end. But, I'm not a fan of treating people you like badly anyway. I DID like how things came together, though. It thought it was cute and showed how much the characters really thought about one another.
I was so excited to see this and I'm sad to see it over.

The second couple stole the show

==Breakdown==
Background plot - 40%
Romance - 35%
Misc comedy - 25%

Background plot - Fine
Romantic chemistry - Good
Misc comedy - Fine
Production value - Fine

I’m not sure why, but by episode 10 I was watching to find out what would happen with the second couple. Even though the two main leads were two of my favorite Cdrama actors. The main story was just really boring and I can’t quite figure out why.
The second couple got the better, more interesting story and were vastly more fascinating, layered characters.

Mr. Bad is my favorite CDrama of 2022

Mr. Bad is an idol drama that will resonate more with the younger audience. It is a rom-com and have to be viewed as such for it to be enjoyable. That means you are not suppose to overthink and apply logic to the events. It is pure romantic fantasy with the male protagonist being a fictional character created by the female lead. The 2 of them look very natural in their interactions with each other on screen. The chemistry is evident which I’m sure some would even see it as sizzling. They look matching to me with above average chemistry.

tumblr fanfic in cdrama form in the best way

the setup of this drama is pretty clunky, but considering the premise is an authors fanfic character comes to life i didnt feel taken out of the experience. the best things about this drama was the humor, but it also really tugged at the heartstrings with later parts that really sweetly fleshed oit important details.

this is kitchy and corny but also funny and sweet so if you are someone that isnt into romcoms as a genre then it might be best to skip this one, but i loved it.

i decided to watch this drama after watching hidden love and being super impressed by the male lead and that experience. its better than thos overall for me, but truly this actor is great and the more comedic spin on his acting has been super fun.

fun at the front, filler in the back

this took me way too long to finish, but honestly, that was on me (read as me not being able to let duan jiaxu go). the drama is really cute and lighthearted, it made me laugh a lot, and i loved the main couple. seeing zheyuan play such a silly, chaotic character was so fun, and shen yue is always amazing.

that said… not gonna lie, the second couple didn’t do it for me. they had a little too much screen time, and i just wasn’t that interested. also, mao xiaojun’s whole storyline felt kind of weird? maybe it’s just me, but i didn’t really get it.

still, it’s a sweet drama overall. not life-changing, but definitely a fun and easy (or not?) watch.

edit; i originally gave it a 6 but after giving it a thought, i decided that the vow's scene and the child are enough reasons for me to give it a little more... after a few days of finishing it i can really say that it grew on me, i love both of them to be honest and they're special to me so.. yeah

A must watch

I love this film so much. I fell in love with both Male lead and Female Lead. It's not your typical modern-historical cross over. It has sweet elements. Although the plot isn't giving too complicated problems it talks about trauma and I can definitely sympathize with her. To have someone who's willing to save you from trauma is such a blessing. I would definitely rewatch this.

Shen Yue did a great job portraying the character and the Male actor also really did well. I love the part where she tried to recreate childhood experiences for him so he'll feel belonged in her world. It's beautiful

Don't hesitate, just watch.

I nearly skipped this series because I wasn’t convinced by Chen Zhe Yuan’s casting as the male lead. Having never seen him in anything before, I wrongly assumed he was just another pretty face with little substance. This was one of those rare and gratifying moments where I was proven completely wrong. And I will give credit where credit is due, he absolutely delivers.

Summary:

The story follows Nan Xing, a young woman navigating adulthood while grappling with crippling anxiety rooted in the tragic loss of her father and first love. To cope, she immerses herself in mystery novels and fanfiction, crafting stories as a form of self-soothing. Despite her grief, Nan Xing is resilient, striving to build a life that feels normal and meaningful. Like many young women coming into their own, she longs to love and be loved.

One day, standing before a wishing fountain, she voices her desire for an “unforgettable love.” As fate would have it, a fairy who’s been quietly watching over her decides to grant that wish. Swept into a dream, Nan Xing wakes to find a strange man beside her, who turns out to be none other than Xiao Wu Di, the ruthless villain she created in her fanfiction. What follows is a whirlwind of chaos, hilarity, and unexpected tenderness as Nan Xing tries to manage the very villain she imagined… and can’t seem to shake.

Plot:

This series radiates feel-good energy, and I genuinely appreciate its simplicity and emotional accessibility. It’s a refreshing take on the “Isekai” genre, and I’m absolutely here for it. Expect plenty of laughs, romantic tension, and moments of unexpected depth between the leads. While I do wish Nan Xing’s character had received the same level of individual development as Xiao Wu Di, I admire the effort put into crafting believable, organic relationships, not just between the main couple, but also between the second leads. Contrary to some critiques I’ve read, I found the second couple’s storyline sweet, satisfying, and well-paced.

Acting:

Shen Yue
As a longtime Shen Yue fan, it pains me to say this, while she brings warmth and sincerity to Nan Xing, she’s once again boxed into a role that limits her range. Nan Xing (Mr. Bad), Dong Shancai (Meteor Garden), Shi Shuang Jiao (Use for My Talent), and Chen Xiao Xi (A Love So Beautiful) all feel like variations of the same character. Yue Yue does her best with what she’s given, and she’s undeniably charming, but the repetition weakens her impact. I truly hope her team helps her break free from these typecast roles so she can explore the emotional and dramatic depth I know she’s capable of.

Chen Zhe Yuan
Underestimating Chen Zhe Yuan was a colossal mistake. His portrayal of Xiao Wu Di is magnetic, and quietly powerful. Just watch the way he looks at Nan Xing as his feelings begin to shift, he conveys so much without saying a word. It’s in the subtle glances, the pauses, the emotional restraint. These nuances make his performance a joy to watch and mark him as an actor with real promise.

Final Thoughts

Give this series a chance. It’s charming, heartfelt, and surprisingly addictive. Before you know it, you’ll be looping back to episode one, eager to relive the ride all over again.

Light fluffy romcom

Easy to watch, no angst, ML and FL are ry adorable and their on screen chemistry is perfect! The story line has few holes but hey, you probably arent watching this for groundbreaking plot. I really enjoyed watching Chen Zheyuan and Shen Yue, they're the stars of the show. The 2nd ML and 2nd FL's story could have been written better, it wasnt engaging and i found myself not caring about them and FF their scenes so i could yet to the main couple. So yeah, if the 2nd couple start to bore you, simply FF through their scenes.
