Cool Fights and Theme, But It Drags
The plot and characters are pretty interesting—especially Mu Dai with the whole black-and-white split personality thing. The fight scenes were what got me into it in the first place, and the opening and music fit the show's theme really well. But honestly, the pacing feels too slow, and I found myself skipping a lot. It just started to drag. So for now, I'm dropping it. Might come back if something later pulls me in.Was this review helpful to you?
Diverse story
This story has elements of friendship, love, adventure, horror, thriller and alot more. There is character development and an amazing cast. I normally skip adventure stories as so much is going on to even comprehend but this plot is coherent and I am always eagerly waiting for episodes.Another part I must bring to focus is how every character has strengths of their own. The female lead Mu dai is a martial artist that inspires me. I love shows with strong females leads. She does has a vulnerability due to her soft emotions but is overall my favourite character. The male lead Luo Ren, so far is a little op but is quite charming, playful and a true friend and leader to the group.
Tho I specifed the ml and fl, the whole friend group are the main characters.

Not the same old story retold
I really enjoyed the series. The story was something new and fun. Not the same old stuff with different characters. Although I normally love Clara Lee, I didn't like her in this part. It was too fakey. No problem though. It's worth watching and I'll watch again. I could watch just to see Ao Ruipeng. 😆Was this review helpful to you?

Definitely My Top 3 Cdrama for this year
The Seven Relics of Ill Omen is definitely one of my top 5 C-dramas this year. The cast is perfectly chosen—every character fits so well! The OSTs are absolute fire and give all the right feels. Acting is on point throughout, seriously impressive. While the editing can be a little choppy at times, the flawless performances totally make up for it. I’m already thinking about rewatching it. It’s a must-watch for any fantasy drama fan!Was this review helpful to you?
REFRESHING to see in cdrama land!
I didn't think I was into fantasy adventure but this is so refreshing to see in cdrama land. It has 7 interesting interlaced stories (I really enjoyed 1, 3, 6, 7) about 5 people plus a scholar coming together as a team to fight against an evil omen relic. Male lead Song Weilong steals the show with his charisma and close combat fight scenes. He does remind me of City Hunter back in the days but a more loyal updated version. Director has a good rep and is doing a good job with story telling and pacing, CG gets a passing grade for me. Got me excited and chasing to see what each story brings and almost every episode ends with cliffhanger leaving you wanting more.My only issue and as a result deducted half point is the female lead's inadequate acting and poor believability (especially her fight scenes). However I don't want to punish the whole drama, writer or the rest of the cast because of one actress' inability.

Where is exactly the Seventh Relic of Ill Omen?
Honestly, the reason why I watched this is because of Weilong. But after watching it I feel in love with Haocun. I thought that it will bore me out but I didn't feel it. Instead, I was looking forward on the next episodes because it excites me and at the same time I am amaze. I am hoping that there will be a Season 2 and also a 3rd collaboration series between Weilong and Haocun. Love this series so much. I am missing my Phoenix Squad. I miss Radishie, Pocketty, Thirteen Thousand, Chubby, and Fiery. Was this review helpful to you?
It's the epitome of EVERYTHING.
Drama so good that it instantly became one of my favorites. It has everything - Romance, fantasy, found family, action, mystery, a bit of horror, thrill, suspense. I like loved EVERY PART OF IT. On top of that loved the OSTs as well, like really well done. The plot also serves hard. It's a perfect mix of ancient history and modern consequences. For me when romance comes as a subplot along side action, it always hits hard and different than any other plots. The slow-burn, the caring for each other while fighting scenes, the urge to protect that person while your own life's on line, tending to each other after the chaotic fight, the confession, the yearning, the jealousy - like so preciously crafted here. As if that wasn't enough, it has fated friendships, fated lovers tropes as well. The only thing I felt was missing (it was) was there wasn't any kiss scenes between the leads, and yet, the intimacy was on point, the love was on point. Like you know when we say that some love stories tell us much more without such scenes? It's exactly that!
It was an easy 10/10 for me. A 100% recommended series. GO WATCH IT!

MOST UNDERRATED C-DRAMA OF ALL TIME ???
I have been following the both leads since their first collab, and just until a few months ago i found this underrated gem. After digging for sci-fi/ mystery dramas i came across this, i was really surprised that I've never heard of it, especially since the leads are pretty famous like rui peng , wei long , and my fav , cun cun.throughout the series, I've never once felt bored. fyi, i get really sick of basic and non-thrilling story-lines. there was so much going on every episode, and i really love it. the acting was really good, the phoenix squad also gave me a really wholesome feeling, idk why, prob bcuz i just love friend groups that go through adventures together. every ep either makes me cry, excited, or scared 😭😭😭🙏🏻
after the series, i felt really empty, cuz it really was the best drama i watched. ALSO! i watched some bts, and their genuine friendship really made me so happy that they treated each-other just like how they were on-screen, and not just like distant co-workers
thats it for now, bai bai
pray for 3rd collab ( 龙龙 and 存存)

Great plot
Though I expected more romance, I loved their chemistry when they worked together for the relic. I just loved their acting and hope to see them in the future againThe story might be confusing but there is a lot to understand and connect the dots later. Highly recommend this drama and I was head over heals for the Ml and FL and both of them knew how to fight and were independent

Mindblowing story and acting
the story is realy so good and the acting is fantastic. I really love yo see liu haocun and song weilong as a couple in this drama. All characters are so good. Mostly love the martial arts of liu haocun and song weilong. I wish they would be the life partner for each other in real life. I have watched the drama for 2 times. I really completed 2 times but feel it's not enough. I really want The seven relics of ill omen part 2. or another modern mysterious drama of liu haocun and song weilong and the entire team. Was this review helpful to you?

Great Fantasy Adventure with a Splash of Romance
Seven Relics of Ill Omen is a fantasy adventure that follows five ordinary young people who form an accidental alliance called the Phoenix Squad to hunt down seven evil ancient artifacts before they trigger a catastrophe of apocalyptic size. It's a wonderful show that explores human nature, inner demons, true friendship, and what it takes for broken people to become something extraordinary together.I wanted to watch it when it first came out, but I kept putting this one off. The poster is dark, the title gives you ominous vibes, and the trailer is full of creepy moments. I'm not the kind of person who enjoys overly dark dramas or heavy horror elements, and that's exactly what the marketing fed me. But I’ve been on a Song Weilong binge for some strange reason lately LOL, so I figured I'd give it a shot and drop it if it got too scary. Surprisingly, it's not nearly as dark as you'd expect. The first stretch of episodes leans a little heavier into some creepy elements, but most of the show is actually shot with nice, bright colors and solid camera work. So if you've been avoiding it for the same reason — don't.
As far as entertainment goes, this drama kept me on my toes. I wanted to keep watching even when it was well past my bedtime. I don't usually enjoy large ensemble casts, but this one earned it. Each character has their own backstory, their own inner demons, and the drama gives every single one of them room to shine. We get genuine insight into their backgrounds and get to watch how, despite everything, they all develop into wonderful human beings. That's the heart of this show, and it's what kept me invested far more than any plot twist could.
Song Weilong is great as Luo Ren — fiercely protective, intense, and he gets to showcase some impressive fighting skills. Liu Haocun as Mu Dai goes through several transformations throughout the drama, making her one of the most dynamic characters to watch. I wouldn’t say she’s a stellar actress. She does have a long way to go to get to the point where she can get very nuanced with her facial expressions, but she worked for this role because this was adventure and action driven drama. Ao Ruipeng as Thirteen-Thousand and Zhang Yichi as Chubby bring a lot of comedic relief that's smartly written with genuinely witty lines. And comedy doesn't disappear in the second half of the drama like it usually does a lot of C-dramas as things get a lot more tense. Thirteen Thousand and Chubby continue making us laugh until the end. I actually quite enjoyed Ao Ruipeng's performance in this drama. And Yan Hongsha? An absolute badass. She works perfectly as an addition to the group a few episodes in.
The pacing is excellent. There was not a single boring episode. No filler scenes, no draggy unnecessary moments, no urge to fast-forward even once. Scenes with dialogue or slower, more mellow moments are all beautifully done and meaningful. The script is tightly written, and while there are some things left unexplored that I would have liked to see explained better at the end, I didn't care much because what I cared about most was these characters conquering their trauma and inner demons along with the defeating the evil, and the show delivered on that front completely.
Production-wise, the CGI is decent. I wouldn't call it amazing — I've definitely seen better — but it's solid quality work that doesn't feel cheap at all and never takes away from the enjoyment, instead, it enhances it. The fight scenes are well done, particularly between Mu Dai and Luo Ren. I don't usually watch contemporary dramas with martial arts, but I enjoyed seeing it in this setting. Their fight choreography together also adds a little extra chemistry to their romance, which is a nice bonus.
Now, to the loaded question — is there any romance? I’m sure a lot of you want to know.
Yes. It's not the main plot, because the main plot is five people hunting relics to prevent the apocalypse, but the romance between Mu Dai and Luo Ren is set up from the very first minutes of the first episode and it’s obvious. It's not the kind of romance you'd see in a romantic drama — it's very sweet, non-toxic, and doesn't take forever to develop. They become a couple less than halfway through, but they go through several hurdles that add real depth to their relationship. Since this is an adventure show for all audiences, don't expect skinship beyond hugging — but it's still satisfying to watch them fight for each other and for their future. There's also a secondary romantic subplot set up between Yan Hongsha and Thirteen-Thousand, though it doesn't fully develop until the very end. It's still fun to watch these two bicker throughout the drama and aggressively ignore the fact that they like each other. I think whether you like romance or prefer your adventure dramas without it, you will still enjoy The Seven Relics of Ill Omen because the romantic subplot and the actual main plot are intertwined very well and don’t take anything away from each other.
Overall, Seven Relics of Ill Omen is a very well-done character-driven fantasy adventure with a great cast, great pacing, and a story that will make you feel things you didn't sign up for. I recommend it to anyone who likes any of the actors, anyone who enjoys fantasy adventure, or anyone who just wants something different. This show definitely deserves a higher rating—go in with an open mind and let it surprise you.
P.S. Special award goes to Chubby’s fated pheasant. Oh, and the soundtrack is great.
