I loved The First Frost, but there’s one essential thing missing: Sang Yan never truly expresses his anger towards Wen Yifan.
After all the pain he went through, he should have exploded, told her everything he had on his heart, instead of simply forgiving her without any explanation after six months of absence.
Their love would have been even stronger if they had gone through this real emotional confrontation. It’s a shame the drama skipped this step!

Can i have a decent watch this year!? Jeez

So, it has been a long time since i wrote a review, but This time i need to do it.
Since i am not a chinese person i can't get all the details about the leads poor mandarin , the rent and so many other details that may not be accurate..If i were, those details would have make me drop the drama asap lol.

I actually felt for the female lead , BUT then the story needs to move forward. I can't keep on watching the same flashback again and again, after 9 episodes i started to fast-forward and that was the moment i knew i had to drop it.

And then damn it ! can't they just have a TALK!? like come on! you guys are adults, and there again if they actually had a talk like normal people do, the drama would have been 10 episodes long ahahahahah. But no, they had to romanticise sleep walking in a bed guy (i get were the female lead comes from, but this is not something that needs to be promoted). Just the thought of getting through this draggy story and somehow boring and not moving forward, helped me made the final decision to drop it. Maybe i will watch and edit on youtube to see if the female lead will ever get out of the zoombie phase lol and confess to the male lead.

Would not recommend it, would not rewatch it lol , i couldn't even finish it in the first place hahah: 4.5/10 for me.

Not what they said

Okay first I want to say this drama I am really looking forward to. Because my favorite actor This is my honest opinion and does not follow what is currently popular or hot. Honestly, if this drama wasn't Bai Jing Ting, then I think the plot and story of this drama would be very boring. If this wasn't a spin-off of Hidden Love, I'm sure it wouldn't be as popular. Honestly very honestly this drama is even very grey, and awkward if it wasn't for the actors Maybe I wouldn't watch this drama Other actors are not suitable, songs that do not fit the scene and actually make the atmosphere confusing. The epilogue scenes that I think are ambiguous, we should have known that because they were already there. But I persisted because it was said to be good, many people said it was good, secondly because of the visuals of Bai Jing Ting and Zhang Ruonan. Moreover, this drama did not meet my expectations. Sorry but Honest opinion and not fixated on any popularity.

Watch this for Bai Jing Ting.

To start: Do not compare this with Hidden Love even though they are in same universe. Because I started the drama that way and ended up finding too many faults. On its own its a good drama, worth the time and tears you are about to shed.

Now, this could have been 10 stars for me had it been shorter and had better side characters. Before I rant about the cons lets talk about pros.

BJT- He carried the show for me. I have loved him in all his dramas and this was no different. He is absolutely incredible as an actor and when he feels emotions, its right there on his face and in his eyes. We are right there feeling it with him. Sang Yan played by him was beautiful and the way I cried for him was unreal. If someone loved me like Sang Yan loved Yifan, I would not ask for anything else in life.

The emotional aspect and the how well Rou Nan pulled off the whole Yifan character. Her dead inside eye look was incredible. She cried so naturally that made me tear up. I would say she needs a little opening up in romantic scenes, but other then that she was great.

The ending, I was sooo happy the mother didn't get forgiveness because she didn't deserve that. The wedding proposal was beautiful and the way Sang Yan recreated same home because Yifan sleep walks, I bawled like a baby.

Now for why I rated it 8 and not 10:

The side characters. Most annoying part of the show and absolutely uninteresting for me. I didn't like anyone of them and didn't end up connecting with them either. I mostly skipped for some portions especially that intern and other unnecessary drama. Hidden love was so on point and focused which made me realise if we focused just on Sang Yan and Yifan it would have been so much better.

The pacing got slow sometimes and that bothered me a bit.

On her own I absolutely loved Yifan and how strong she is as a person. But the way I wanted both couples on equal levels like Sang Yan loved her wayyyyy more than she loved him, even through actions. They could have shown more actions on her part of loving Sang Yan. We didn't get to see much from Yifan's end. In her heart Sang Yan is her only one but as a audience I was hoping to see more of that come to screen. Which made me feel that BJT was carrying the show strongly.

Over all, its worth a watch, wonderful drama that will make you cry so much.
But for Hidden love remains a jewel in my heart I will rewatch multiple times. First Frost might not make my rewatch list and hence doesn't get a 10.

"You're the light to my darkness, I just realized that..."

This drama was heavy especially Wen Yifan's character, damn! I have a lot to say about her mother. She takes the crown of the most annoying mother in Chinese drama history imo. I don't understand how you'll choose to believe a stranger over your own daughter especially with such sensitive topic of being s3xually @$$aulted! And the fact that towards the end of the show, she had the audacity to show up in front of her daughter whom she abandoned and cry to her that her husband is cheating on her and that she had no idea that that Uncle B3ast would do such a thing 🤦‍♀️. I knew she was a hypocrite the moment she was telling her step-daughter to roll down her sleeves and dress 'appropriately' when that Uncle B3ast was living with them. But all in all I'm so glad that Wen Yifan found her own family in strangers like Sang Yan and her friends. It was so sad to see her sleepwalking due to the trauma caused by her own blood. I also loved the part where she asked Sang Yan if her dad had sent him to protect her and he replied that he volunteered😊Overall the show was alright but slightly depressing. It was healing to see them change each other for the better and honestly Sang Yan's character was understandable for loving a woman like Wen Yifan, who had shut the whole world off he needed to do what he did for his and her peace of mind.

The Best

The First Frost is a touching and well-balanced romance with humor and depth. Bai Jingting’s portrayal of Sang Yan stands out, bringing both charm and sincerity to his role as Sang Yan. His interactions with Zhang Ruonan feel genuine, and their dynamic keeps the story engaging. The pacing is smooth, with emotional moments placed naturally between lighthearted scenes. The cinematography creates a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere.

What sets this drama apart is its character growth. Sang Yan isn’t just there to be a love interest—he has his own struggles and moments of self-reflection and his POV was so fun. It made the drama more convincing and relatable. The supporting cast adds personality without overshadowing the leads. With its strong performances and thoughtful storytelling, The First Frost is a drama worth watching. Watch it now!

First Frost will be the best!

I started watching this show and so far I’m loving it. The ML and FL are amazing together.
So this is definitely recommended to watch if you find these actors/actress cute especially the ML who is pretty handsome 🥹❤️
Sanyan and Wen Yifan has a very strong chemistry and
I can’t wait to see what will happen towards the rest of the episodes which I’m really looking forward too!

Met my expectations

Tbh being a spin off of hidden love which is extraordinaryly good drama, already put a pressure on this drama to be at the same level as HL. So I had in my mind that it might not be as good as HL and should be watched as an individual seperate drama with just few conn6with HL and this made the drama more worthy and satisfying to watch.

Some people might think that there were illogical things and things don't make sense, there is pacing problem or the FL is too weak. But if you watch it till end almost everything makes sense and why FL felt what she felt and why she became weak. Its true that there is pacing problem but once its on track, every episode is very anticipating to watch and the pacing problem is solved. For those who thing that FL is shown too weak, i haven't read the novel so idk, but i only saw the drama and as per drama it made sense of how she kept on losing hope and those sufferings made her like that.

I am really satisfied with this drama. And loved how the second lead couple were also so good. Writers gave enough screentime to them and a good short story too. Also i like how they settled every properly in the end without rushing the ending, like the uncle issue, mother issue, basically everything that came between them.

In the end it was worth watching drama👍

Almost as good as Hidden Love!

I dropped many CDramas for lack of patience (as I prefer the 10 or 16 format episodes) but this one caught my attention as I got hooked from the first episode. I knew I had to to sustain the long run!
The sob story of the FL is unfortunately quite relatable by many women in the world and I thought it was a great idea to see how she was going to overcome the trauma. The persistance (and borderline stalking) of Sang Yang throughout the years apart is out of this world and frankly unrealistic but who cares! He is cute and caring and the prototype of the Green Flag boyfriend.
I have to admit I bypassed the second couple as I was too eager to pick up the main couple story.
So I overall enjoyed it and had my reward at the last episode !

Incredible adaptation great casting

This is incredible adaptation of the population Novel. Everything is well thought off. Cast, direction, screenplay, writting, editing cinematography all are perfect. It's presented such intense story in endearing manner. How story incorporated angst, workplace abuse, toxic parenting, domestic violence in every subtle ways without drama. Attending social issues with healing and romance. Perfect blend. This is not your regular cuddles, xoxo romantic series

I didn’t exepect to like this show a lot

It starts off interesting we see Wen yifan reject Sang yan. “Wen Yifan was I really just your back up” from just the start I thought “ oh wow did she break his heart, did she cheat on him, what exactly happened” just this scene alone made me keep watching. I just think the second couple deserved more screen time than giving up their screen time for the second lead’s grand parents .After a few episodes it gets revealed slowly why the show started off the way it did. We get to know why she left for Yihe University instead of Nanwu University with Sang yan like they promised each other. I felt so bad for Sang yan because he was really there for her. But then again I can see why Wen yifan rejected Sang yan at first going through all she did there was really no time for her to date. She had to mature early because her mother, uncle, and aunt weren’t being an adult figure for her after her father passed. We don’t get to see many scenes between Wen yifan and her father but her father explains Wen yifan’s birthday, she was born on a day where the weather is the coldest which is why It is called “The First Frost”. At first I wondered why she was so distant with her mom but after the flashbacks it’s reasonable because I hate hate I mean loathe her mother but mainly her aunt because she knew what her cousin was capable of and kept covering for him. It’s the fact her mom knew her Wen yifan’s Uncle Che was weird and still sent her daughter to live with her uncle and aunt. I didn’t expect a plot twist in this show. Wen yifan’s Uncle Che ended not only being a sexual assault offender but also a murder??? I’m glad he was locked up in the end but the justice was far too late in my opinion. I really really hate her mom that’s how good the acting is though I won’t forgive her if I was Wen yifan. Back then she called her mom many times crying that she wanted to go home. Her mom just told her to stop crying and she’ll talk with her Uncle Wen and her aunt ??? Then by episode 24 her mom comes crawling back to her saying her new family that she left Wen yifan for left her lmao the irony. Wen yifan finally got her closure but I felt so scared that she would now think it’s the time to have her mom back in her life and forgive her. Wen yifan thankfully didn’t because her mom honestly failed as a mom and a person too. I’m really upset that her dreams as a ballerina ended because of her creep Uncle Che kept trying to sexually assault her. He continues to even when Sang yan protects Wen yifan. Uncle Che is very disgusting props to the actor he acted so got it made my blood boil. I honestly thought Sang yan was gonna kill Uncle Che when they fought the 2nd time. Overall, thankfully Uncle Che is jailed and We get to see Wen yifan dance again and see Wen yifan and Sang yan reconcile after she leaves for Hong Kong because of Uncle Che. Seeing her dance again made me so happy like I just watched their jounery together.

The First Frost

Watching **The First Frost**, and it’s got me hooked! The **cold, eerie atmosphere** mixed with deep emotions makes it so gripping. The story unfolds slowly but keeps you curious, and the characters feel real with their struggles. The visuals are stunning, and the mystery keeps building. Loving it so far!
