You won’t regret watching this!
This is one of the best modern dramas. As a fan of novel, Bai Jing Ting and Zhang Ruo Nan are amazing to bring the characters alive. Their on screen chemistry is also fire.
Just because it’s Sang Yan’s story, you won’t get the same vibe of HL which is sunshine and fluffy, it’s more like the vibe of slowly healing from sad, gloomy trauma of fl and longing of ml.
As for fans of vibrant, strong willed Fl, you will be a little disappointed because this FL is timid and shy, a little detach, a little gloomy because she has fear of rejection, avoidant, thinks she is unworthy of love and doesn’t deserve good things due to abandonment from her mother, emotional abuse from her relatives, suffered SA every place she went/stay and malicious rumors from her school, work place. So you need a little patience to see her opening up to ml, trying herself to come out of shell to believe in love and to be with ml. (She was distancing herself from ml as he is the best thing ever happened to her and she didn’t believe she deserves ml.)
ML is greenest forest ever. He never forced FL to come to him. He tried to understand her and respected every decision she made even tho it breaks him. He is just waiting patiently and longing silently for her. He is the medicine for fl.
I am loving the story by far.
And the scenes are OMG…. The diary like story telling, episode titles, ml’s pov at the end of every episode are amazing.
The storytelling is superb. It’s so well executed.

Worth the wait! One of the best dramas I’ve had so far.
This C-drama is simply heartwarming and easy to watch. The kind of storyline that tugs one’s heartstrings and that I look for during after work to relieve the stress during the day. Both Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan portrayed Sang Yan and Wen Yifan really well and literally gave life to the characters. The novels written by Zhu Yi always hit the spot and never disappoints. Was this review helpful to you?

okay, just a few things im picky about
a good show, done well by the director so far (24 eps in, basically the hong kong scene) honestly i might js be picky about a fwe things. other than that, this show is a good show , i love the acting. visuals are there, i dont skip anything much and overall it's a good show.i might js be picky but honestly it pissed me off when BJT, instead of waking Wen Yi Fan up when she's sleepwalking like Wen Yi Fan asked for he freaking kept getting in her way?? like ik you're trying to help her not get hurt and all that but like you can not make up fantasies about her kissing you n stuff after she asks you about what she did during her sleepwalking (first time she sleepwalked in front of him) when you're literally setting her up for it?? like you're literally in her way of course shes going to interact with you and do things she cant control? dont blame it on her like oh my gosh just wake her up or lock your door like she said??
also, it was cute that he followed her around but the more i looked into it the more it looked like an obession... like the amount of tickets he had to go to Yi He? honestly kind of scary like at high school it was cute but after high school it was lowk getting annoying..
overall a good show. BJT just pisses me off sometimes.

a slow burn that lingers forever
I started this drama because it was written by the amazing Zhu Yi. As expected, she continues to raise the bar, crafting male leads so gentle and loving that it’s evident they were written by a woman. Much like "Hidden Love" and "When I Fly Towards You", the characters in this drama are beautifully written making them impossible not to adore.Sang Yan’s unwavering love for Wen Yifan, his quiet, selfless nature, and his willingness to give without expecting anything in return are utterly captivating.
This drama warms your heart and keeps you up at night with a strange yet lovely feeling. It’s incredibly comforting—just like the other two dramas I mentioned. This kind of chemistry is exactly what I look for in a drama.
If you liked any of Zhu Yi's other works, then this is definitely for you!

I know sang yan is suffering, but I can't bring myself to reset wen yifan for what she did that is why I love their match so much bc he gets her and is gentle. I am now at ep25 and I am waiting for their happy ending 😭😭😭

Almost as good as Hidden Love!
I dropped many CDramas for lack of patience (as I prefer the 10 or 16 format episodes) but this one caught my attention as I got hooked from the first episode. I knew I had to to sustain the long run!The sob story of the FL is unfortunately quite relatable by many women in the world and I thought it was a great idea to see how she was going to overcome the trauma. The persistance (and borderline stalking) of Sang Yang throughout the years apart is out of this world and frankly unrealistic but who cares! He is cute and caring and the prototype of the Green Flag boyfriend.
I have to admit I bypassed the second couple as I was too eager to pick up the main couple story.
So I overall enjoyed it and had my reward at the last episode !

Amazing drama with quite heavy angst
Well I don't know and care what other people think of First forst I personally can't stop giggling while watching the drama and then suddenly crying help when I'm busy simping over the leads suddenly we get random flashback of what happened 8 year ago and help it is heartbreaking i just need to remove the whole highschool part from the drama it's heartbreaking and specially by bay wen yifan deserve so muchI never read the book so idgaf I'm watching this drama as drama with a normal story I've watched like till 10 eps now and hell I'm gonna continue watching all this drama is boring leads can't act miss my hidden love leads can shoo away I LOVE Zhang ruonan acting like bro can act i can see the pain and helpless she feels and bai jingting did a amazing job aswell it's litreally i came to this drama for Bai jingting and stayed for Zhang ruonan(MY NEXT WALLPAPER COVER I'M SO CRUSHING OVER HER I NEED HER)
My only problem with the drama is that my aren't getting closure of what happened why it's happened maybe we did ane i didn't notice it enough like it's super duper obvious that sang yan is head over heels fallen for wen yifan but the seperation was too hurtful that's why he's acting like this but still can't stop loving her I so so get his character but I actually don't understand wen yifan feeling for him I don't again maybe i didn't focus well on some epsiode scene so correct me but if seems even after all these she's confused about her feeling maybe it's just me who feel like this but the way she act towards sang yan make me wonder did she ever liked him she's seem super confused and awkward around I mean yeh she rejected and had pretty valid reason but the love or even just the attraction from her side seems lacking maybe this is the way she protect herself from getting hurt but it's make me mad cause why sang yan he was there for her everytime like litreally but seems like something is stopping her i actually don't understand her character so well so someone might make me understand
Other than zhang miaoyi character is such a cutie patootie i love her but zhai xiaowen character is super annoying and irrating (the irony is I love him in always home) AND THE MOST HATEFUL CHARACTER OF THE DRAMA IS THE MOM fight me

Wasted potential with the highlight being a complex FL
The best part of this series is the complex FL. We watch her deal with trauma and the repercussions of her trauma with PTSD, touch aversion, sleepwalking, and very low self-esteem. We get to watch as she deals with the horrors of a terrible family and how she remains strong and unafraid to stand up for herself, but still face the long-term effects of her past. Her trauma isn't just a empty plot that the writers put in without consideration of how terrible it can truly be. The FL is the highlight and honestly, I would've loved to see more time spent on her working through her personal issues. She is a complex, multi-dimensional character that we get to watch grow and learn to love herself. I enjoyed her character more than the romance of the whole show. The romance was perfect, warm, but empty and quite lackluster. The ML is a really flat character who's only character trait is being in love with the FL. In the Hidden Love his character was full of life, humor, warmth, and love for everyone around him. In First Frost he has a best friend who is super friendly and caring and many other friends as well, but yet he constantly ignores them, is rude to them, and doesn't show his care for them at all. His best friend even begs him at one point saying that he really needed to talk to him, but he shoved him off because he wanted to be with his girlfriend. This ML was just empty outside of the romance.
The romance was the main genre, so of course, it's one of the most important relationships in the show. But..what about the FL's best friend? She is always there for her, forgives her when she leaves her/dumps her and is always there for her even when the FL doesn't have the emotional/mental energy to be there for her. Yet the FL mentions multiple times that the ML is the only one that loves her and that he's the only family she has.
The secondary couple was cute, but they didn't fit the tone of the series at all. I would've watched them if they had their own show because they had more natural chemistry than the leads, but I skipped during First Frost.
So all in all, the FL was the best part. The romance was warm, but empty.

A Beautiful Yet Bittersweet Love Story
The drama starts with a sweet high school love-at-first-sight between Sang Yan and Wen Yifan, who meet on their first day of high school. Every day is filled with heart-fluttering moments—until reality hits. Wen Yifan’s once bright world turns into trauma and sorrow, making her became an avoidant & withdrawn person who chooses to run away from people she knows.Sang Yan’s character is loved by many viewers, and I totally get why. He’s loyal, devoted, and never giving up on the girl he has loved from the very beginning. On the other hand, Wen Yifan’s character can be frustrating to some viewers, she seems indecisive & almost like playing with Sang Yan’s feelings. But, as someone who understands what trauma can do to a person, I deeply related to Yifan. Facing the harsh world alone, carrying emotional burdens without asking for help. I just wanted to be her friend and give her a hug:(
While I really enjoyed the drama, there were times when it felt a bit on and off. Some episodes pulled me in completely, while others felt like they lost momentum.
What I Loved:
- The acting was top-notch, especially Wen Yifan’s emotional scenes. Her teary eyes and gloomy expressions truly brought her hidden trauma to life.
- The chemistry between the leads was undeniable—they made every scene together feel genuine.
- The OST was easy-listening and fit the mood of the drama perfectly!!
What Felt Off:
- Side character screen time, I loved the 2nd couple, but why were their scenes so minimal? Instead, we got TOO MUCH focus on Su Haoan’s grandparents. There was even an episode where they had more screen time than the main leads.
- Sang Yan’s repeated flights to Yihe just to secretly watch Yifan from afar. While some might find this super romantic, I personally found it a bit weird & unsettling(?) If I knew someone was watching me from a distance, even if it was someone I liked, I’d be creeped out rather than touched.
- The main leads officially became a couple before resolving the misunderstandings from six years ago. I admire Sang Yan’s patience and his respect for Yifan’s feelings, but getting into a relationship with unresolved questions? That’s not realistic and as expected, it backfired when Yifan ran away again for the same reasons.
Despite these flaws, I still think this drama is worth to watch, It delivers a deeply emotional love story. If you enjoy romance with angst, this one’s suit you well!

Ten out of Ten
The First Frost is a beautifully crafted drama that stands out with its compelling storytelling, emotional depth, and unforgettable characters. Even from the start, the series delivers a perfect balance of romance, humor, and heartfelt moments, making it one of the most memorable love dramas of recent years.Bai Jingting shines as Sang Yan, effortlessly bringing charm, wit, and emotional nuance to the character. Unlike the typical cold male lead, Sang Yan is warm, humorous, and deeply loyal, making him my instant favorite. His character development is outstanding—showcasing his journey from a mischievous older brother to a mature deeply caring partner. Bai Jingting’s natural acting style makes every scene feel authentic, and his chemistry with the zhang rounan is electric.
The cinematography is breathtaking, with stunning visuals that enhance the emotions of each scene.
Overall, The First Frost is a must-watch, especially for those who appreciate well-written characters and a romance that feels both real and deeply touching. Bai Jingting’s portrayal of Sang Yan is one of the drama’s biggest highlights, solidifying his status as one of the best actors in the industry today.

Innocent first love
(+) Overall a sweet and wholesome but realistic portrayal of first love(+) Main leads play their characters convincingly with decent chemistry
(+) Good closure with a heartwarming ending that ties up loose ends
(-) Heavy on flashback scenes, which get repetitive and often feel a bit disruptive to the flow of the story, especially in the later episodes which are filled with what feels like extended cuts of the childhood flashbacks in the earlier episodes
(-) Because of the heavy use of flashbacks, the main story progresses more slowly
(-) Side characters felt like a bit of a distraction, with limited character development
