Unexpectedly Good!

I would like to start by congratulating the casting team. Each cast member portrayed their individual character magnificently. They did an amazing, terrific, and fantastic job! I really enjoyed watching the series, and I will definitely be watching it again. I personally had never seen the actors before, but they all deserve an award.

The writers also deserve praise. Each character is unique and complex in their own way. Despite the series only having eight episodes, you truly experience their hardships and grow alongside them.

From the very first episode, I knew that Sin Jae Min was plotting something. The fact that he practically served himself on a silver platter to Daon from the start seemed a bit odd to me.

To me, Kim Su Hyeon’s character is one of the most relatable. He was the living embodiment of so many common metaphors we hear growing up. For example: “You don’t know what you have until you lose it,” “A shrimp that falls asleep is carried away by the current of the sea,” and “Whoever has a shop should attend to it.” I felt bad for him, but his downfall wasn’t just due to Jae Min. He lacked the ability to see what was right in front of him the whole time, until the end. So if you ask me he was just dumb. However, I did appreciate his moment of realization at the end.

Jung Da On rattled me a bit, but I liked his journey. His struggles with his family and his confusion growing up felt so real that they reminded me of my own experiences.

And last but not least my lovely Ju Seong Hyeon! Ugh! He is the green flag we all deserve. Seeing Hyeon is a living reminder of what unconditional love should be. His character reinforced the idea that when you truly love someone, you NEED to be patient. Actor Cha Sun Hyung is a new face to me, but oh, do I want to see him again! I also loved the little background noises they included for him.

I highly recommend this show. Even though they managed to finesse it in just eight episodes, I would have loved to see a bit more. Again, phenomenal work from all the actors. I cannot wait to see them in future projects!

The positives are amazing, the negatives are horrific

Okay, I tend to put off watching kdramas for a bit but i'm finally doing all of my kbl catchups. There was no particular reason I chose this one because I genuinely had ZERO idea what it was about going in-- that being said, it is shocking, undeniably so. I guess in hindsight I should have called the double-triple red herring.. But aside from shock value, pretty faces, and good acting? This show isn't much. It isn't anywhere near bad, but it's just sitting at a middle level between bad and extraordinary. It could have been so much more!

I'd also like to state that I'm not someone who ranks shows low for toxicity. I mean I LOVE My Personal Weatherman, for example.. But this one is just not good? The logistics of it just aren't there for me? I literally said to my friend "This would make sense if all of them were in High school, but you're expecting me to just be fully on board with men in their 20s and 30s doing all this?" First off, even if Jaemin and Soohyun WERE crazy it makes zero sense for Da On, a FULLY GROWN MAN, to sit back and be complacent time and time again. Insecurity plots, miscommunication over no real thing when the character has fully shown they're capable of fending for themselves and using critical thinking, none of it makes sense in this show. It's so easy to get blinded by the fact that the acting is genuinely amazing but what else is there? It wasn't emotion inducing, it was just them trying to throw HUGE shock value plots at you suddenly and none of it pieced together in a way that makes sense.
So because Jaemin likes Da On he's managed to fully manipulate ANOTHER grown man into fake dating him ? If you like him, date him? The whole "i want a permanent relationship, not temporary" excuse doesn't make sense either. Especially once Da On LITERALLY confesses his feelings for him. If he truly wanted to be by his side forever literally what good does it do him to harshly reject him and kick him out? Even a soft rejection would have done him better. But then they couldn't figure out a middle ground to make Soohyun seem evil but also.. Not Evil..? They kept flip-flopping his character so much I honestly think he might have bigger problems than Jaemin by the end. And did they run out of budget halfway through? Why was Junghyun in the ambulance just.. Asleep? No oxygen, no IV.. Just lying there? And Jaemins actor is literally SO amazing and you can clearly see the talent with every scene he's in yet by the end of the series they got lazy and just wrote in: 'Jaemin: Laughs maniacally.' Like it makes no sense. My problem with Kdramas is that they typically lack depth. I feel like this show is the perfect example of that. They wanted so hard to be deep and nuanced but when they have every opportunity to go further with a storyline, give it more, suddenly they pull a 180. And Da On couldn't confess to his normal crush who he's known for a year or less but could fully confess to his crush and best friend of 10 years knowing he's supposedly dating someone else..????
I know tv shows tend to vilify mental illness but it just didn't make sense to me no matter how I looked at it. "Oh you have been stalking me and manipulating every move for the last 10 years, got so upset i found out you started stabbing yourself in front of me for no good reason, AND just forced yourself onto me and tried to sexually assault me? Aww that's alright i'll take you to the doctor and leave you a sweet note of rejection." Like hello?!?

Everyone seems to LOVE this show and don't get me wrong it is executed well.. But it seems I'm the odd one out on not finding it as amazing as everyone else. Whatever they excel in they make sure to balance out with how ridiculous the storyline is. It's definitely an intriguing series to sit down and watch but by the end I was rolling my eyes and felt like i wasted 5 hours of my time.

Red flaggs even main guy is a red flag

Main guy is useless asf, an easy target to sleep with/push around, pushes the greenest flag away because again main guy is useless asf and stupid, main guy is a red flag himself. Overall, drama is just stupid don’t even know what to said. All he dose is get pushed around having to pick between the three of them. Note he chooses the two red flag and always abandoning the green flag. Lot of stupid decisions and abusive. Drama not worth watching. Again I’m not victim blaming he’s making decisions for himself. Green flag try to prevent anything bad happening to main leader but main leader likes the abusive and allows it to happen. So who’s really the victim here? The green flag of course.

Love's Tangled Threads

Secret Relationships was one of my most anticipated Korean BLs this year. After a quiet 2024 for full-length KBL dramas, it felt refreshing to see companies still investing in a complete narrative rather than just quick reel-type content. I did not watch any teasers or read the plot beforehand because I prefer to experience the full drama once it is released. The series has 8 episodes with a runtime of about 30 minutes each, and I must say they made excellent use of that time. Every episode felt essential to the development of the plot, and I appreciated how the backstories, conflicts, characters, and romance unfolded gradually.

The plot is strong overall, and I believe it handled the romantic conflict better than my favorite 2024 drama, Love for Love's Sake. The story gave balanced screen time to Songhyeon, Jaemin, and Suhyeon, allowing their love conflicts to simmer instead of resolving too quickly. One aspect that could have been improved is the handling of emotional scenes, which sometimes lacked the depth I hoped for. I must admit that the title, Secret Relationships, was a bit misleading because there were only a few true secrets. In fact, Jaemin and Suhyeon’s plotline could have been explored more. The introduction of the masochistic side of Jaemin felt rushed; I understand the runtime limitations, but it left me wanting more clarity.

There were also moments that felt clichéd and predictable. Despite these issues, the drama was a solid representation of different types of love. Jaemin’s love was obsessive and unhealthy, Suhyeon’s was self-sacrificing, and Songhyeon’s was unconditional. Initially, I found myself rooting for Jaemin because his intensity seemed like what Da On needed. However, as the story unfolded, I grew to despise the harmful side of his obsession. On the other hand, Suhyeon’s motivations were initially confusing, but it later became clear that no matter how protective he was, his love was not what Da On needed. And then there is Songhyeon—his patience, perseverance, and genuine affection make his love the kind many people dream of.

On the acting front, I was thoroughly impressed. Junseo, in his likely first major project, truly embodied Da On. I was both compelled and pleasantly surprised by his performance, especially when I learned he is also from a K-pop group. He managed to handle both the sensual and emotional aspects of his role with confidence and charm. Hoyoung impressed me with his blend of innocent vibes and deeper emotional acting, while Jungwoo, though his character was less appealing, was an undeniable eye candy with a mesmerizing performance. Sunhyung, too, delivered a strong performance in the emotionally charged scenes. The cinematography was exactly what one would expect from a Korean production, and although the OST was good, it did not leave a lasting impression.

Overall, Secret Relationships is a testament to how Korean BLs have evolved over time. It demands some mental engagement, but for someone who has watched over a hundred BLs and numerous Korean dramas, it is neither intimidating nor overly complex. It remains entertaining, engaging, and primarily focuses on character development with minimal filler. I may even find myself binge-watching WEI's releases after this one.

PS. I find it funny in the last scene where Junseo raised his eyebrow to signal Sunhyung to kiss him. I am not sure if that's intentional but they could've cut it better.

Real Me!!!

First about the Story , It is good and something different other than other BL's
Second, The Actors and their acting was really too up to the point that I can feel their emotions.
Third , Manipulation is one of the Highlight in this drama . If I didn't see the shorts or reels then I wouldn't believe what each person is like till the end .
Fourth, Characters:
Jaemin is one of the approved underlying psycho 😂
Da on is in center but He is like a child whoever gives him the attention or love he turns to them but it is because of his childhood circumstances.
sung hyeon is ofc one of the gentleman and literally a puppy
su hyeon is actually a softie but he becomes easily mad.
I saw in lot of comments that Da on is the who is creating these all but I don't think so cause the people who he knew from 11 years were creating something that he never imagined and they are making him like that confusing and always wavering. Sung hyeon is the one who gives clarity but Da on already warned that he is not a person who he can choose and can hurt easily but Sung hyeon was ok at that time but when he really was hurt (Actually it's a misunderstanding) he was blaming Da on.
Over all its a drama worth watch as Sung hyeon and Da on are couple at the end and they are cute together.

Omg we need more Korean bls and gls!!

Seong hyeon is such a green flag and I am rooting for him and daon..I actually felt bad for Suhyeon I hope we get to see his character development. Jaemin omg hes a psycho, he could’ve easily had Daon bcz daon was so in love with him but again he is a psycho narcissist so he had to ruin everything. Anyways the drama is sooo good and the acting too. Actor who played Suyeon did really great job.

Quite a buzz this is on the feeds makes me curious to watch. So, let’s start with the story…

Story about Da On (DO) & his 3 men. Haha…

DO’s company just hired a batch of new employees, and his boss assigned him to mentor one of them—Ju Seong Hyeon (SH). And yes, as MDL told us in the summary, the relationship between DO and SH becomes increasingly ambiguous as time progresses.

Then there’s Sin Jae Min (JM), DO’s long-time friend and former tutor. Over time, JM becomes more than just a mentor—he turns into DO’s crush. And while viewers can clearly see that JM sees DO as more than just a friend or student, he never fully acknowledges or acts on his feelings, keeping his emotions locked away for reasons he keeps to himself.

The third man in the mix is Kim Su Hyeon (SY), the company heir. He used to be close friends with DO, but things changed when he suddenly distanced himself. Later, we learn that SY made a deal with JM to stay away from DO.

Things get complicated when SY returns to the country and starts working his way back into DO’s life.

So… how will this messy love square play out?

That's pretty much the story without giving any more spoilers.

Overall, the drama was compelling enough for me to remember it. But honestly, It just filled with a bunch of dumb, manipulative people and controlling assh*l*s trying to control DO.
Thankfully, we still have Seong Hyeon (SH) as the one bright spot in all of this. Offering a much-needed breath of fresh air for DO.

STOP NORMALIZING TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS

I loved this KBL I don’t watch a lot of them but this one did NOT disappoint, but what did was the fandom and I know this review should be about the show but I just have to add this in here; STOP NORMALIZING TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS. like literally daon got sexually assaulted by jaemin AND suhyeon if you want to argue about that then please be my guest; they both did something to him. I really do not understand the people who think daon should’ve been with jaemin or suhyeon because; Jaemin: literally a psycho asshole and a manipulative piece of shit. Suhyeon: just yelled at daon the WHOLE FUCKING SERIES, like guys, news flash; ITS NOT HOT. I’m so glad Seonghyeon got with Daon because if it was either of them two assholes this show wouldn’t be as good as it is. ANYWAYS live laugh love Seonghyeon, greenest flag in history.
