This movie could have been so much more... Spoilers!

My gripe with this movie is that it had the perfect setting to turn into a romantic or social message. But in the end, it ended up being neither. The main character does grow in some sense, but not entirely.

One example: The ML went through harassment himself while dressed as a woman, but he never directly addressed why he was wrong, just saying, "I am sorry," even when he got a stage to say it out loud. He apologized to several women, but it didn't feel like he understood why his previous behavior was problematic. His realization seemed surface-level. In addition, it is really hard for me to believe that he grew up with a sister and was raised by a mom and ended up doing what he did.

But the comedy was good and you can never go wrong with this guy! His acting was A+!!!

Satisfying comedy effects

A hardcore dumb premise that is absurdly built till a point that it's almost like a cult movie in its own class. Weirdly enough it also has an outrageously great storytelling and acting that gives in a solid performance for the comedy effects, provided that logical thinking is to be ignored completely, then it will be a satisfying ride in its particular sense.

Confusing stuff

The movie "Pilot" reminded me of Korean movies from the 2000s that, through comedy, dealt with various sociological topics, i.e., they used different cultural themes to promote social values (Scandal Makers, Punch, A Man Who Was Superman, Quick, 200 Pounds Beauty, Penny Pinchers, The Quiz Show Scandal, Save the Green Planet, Highway Star, Mr. Housewife … well, I could count the movies for days). The point is that this movie stylistically fits into the Korean cinema how I remember it.

Unfortunately, this movie disappointed me in many segments. I expected more piloting from a movie with such a title. Also, it doesn't work as a comedy. Personally, I only laughed twice, and both times because of the mother's phone, when she calls and when she answers the phone, but never because of the main theme of a man pretending to be a woman. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned here, but those scenes mostly felt distasteful and unconvincing to me. I was especially disappointed that a child was brought into that theme. However, the movie's resolution does show a good message and gives some thought about the sociological reasons why someone pretends to be something they are not. The movie tries to stay in the middle, but in doing so, it satisfies neither the traditional audience (me) nor, I assume, the modern (progressive woke) audience. Still, I commend the movie for opening up this topic and offering us something for discussion.

Really Entertaining!!

I really love it! It's entertaining right from the start till the end. It's lighthearted and fun with great comedy, yet it brings a story of redemption towards the end. very well done.

How the ML got fired might sound a bit exaggerating, because I was shocked myself, but I'm thinking there might be some subtitle or subtext lost in translation. More importantly, it's the message they try to bring across about message on how women should not be objectified. It also has other social issues being touched on really nicely.

Very well rounded show with great entertainment value and meaningful message!

Sorry I came for a Laugh

First of all I kinda expected the ratings to be this low due to the concerns the viewers had with the story. Nevertheless I enjoyed it a lot. I came for a laugh and it delivered, I even decided to skip some of the scenes that talks about issue's regarding, well the hardships of women in male dominated fields. I feel like the reason why the story was a little disappointing is that, they tried to differ from the usual, romantic route and the this is a message to the public route. They used the gender swap and showed some issues that a woman faces, and yet it never went full on redemption arc, it was lacking to viewers. Another is that they could've went with the usual, I was too bad, my life becomes shit, I learned my lesson, now I changed for this new woman I met, trope, ikyk. Maybe if they just decided to lessen the mom's involvement and rather focus, on the leads story together and or alone. Also no romance is an ok decision as I feel like it would be way too fast, unless they decide to forward time and add time for the lead in moving on, still that's marriage right there, I understand why they didn't go that route.
If you watch it just for laughs it's good. But if you care for it to be a masterpiece, it's not for you.

From the very beginning, I was hooked by its mix of physical and emotional humor. The duality of Jung-woo/Jung-mi feels surprisingly natural and genuinely funny, and the script strikes a perfect balance between laughs and heartfelt moments. Visually dynamic and smoothly paced, it keeps you engaged from start to finish.

Jo Jung-suk's performance is not only technically flawless, but also emotionally resonant, he makes you feel for his character while delivering unforgettable comedic moments. It was simply delightful and deeply satisfying to watch.

Pilot is a sparkling and touching comedy, carried by Jo Jung-suk’s charisma and versatility. One of the most entertaining and heartfelt films I’ve seen in a long time. If you haven’t watched it yet, don’t miss it!

It is a fast paced and entertaining romp. Some shortcut were taken to made the narrative work in the limited time so it can feel a bit contrived. Ha! I just realised how contrived the original premise is so does that makes it a double positive? Double negative? LoL

Anyway, the ML put in a lot of effort while playing this role and kudos to him. The support cast are there to move the plot along and they did it competently. There is a hint of romance but it is not a major plot point.

I'm thankful that being a movie, there is no time for long detours or side plots that are angst trains. It moves along at a good pace and most comedic moments landed, which is never a given. The 3 act play is done and dusted right on cue.

BTW, do look up Tootsie(1982) starring Dustin Hoffman. He is the OG unnie. ;)

Cross-dressing pilot?

Overall 6/10
🌟🌟🌟

Don't have much to say about the movie. Not great but not bad. The ending felt washed out. A fun watch, but I never felt connected to any of the characters, and overall not my vibe. The guy cross-dressing to get a job opened for female pilots - still not sure how I feel about that. Didn't make me feel enough for the main character to be truly okay with it. Did enjoy seeing the actors, though!

Comedy with a Deep Touch: A Journey Through Identity and Dignity

While the film presents itself as a light-hearted comedy, it explores several meaningful themes:

Social identity: How we judge people based on their appearance or gender, and how some are forced to play roles that don’t reflect who they truly are just to get a chance.

Personal dignity: The struggle to regain self-worth after loss.

Society’s double standards: How the same person can be treated differently simply because they "look" different.

Overall rating:
7.5/10
An entertaining film, clever in its message, and emotionally impactful without being overwhelming. It’s the kind of movie that makes you laugh—and then makes you think.

It's very fun

I love this movie, I laughed so much, I don't understand the rating it has, very interesting from the beginning and during its development and the end, well I can understand that we don't all have the same tastes But I find it incoherent, if you are simply going to give a review of the film, describe the film, not what it made you feel, leave that for the comments.

watched this online at: ondemandkorea for free & enjoyed it. I liked Exit 2019 & Hospital playlist as well as Oh my Ghost (& other dramas Jo Jung Suk was in) so was looking forward to this, but I didn't feel like the story did enough for his character. The whole movie just didn't have enough "meat on it's bones". I found his sister & mother to be unfunny unsympathetic leaches. It was hard to really grasp why his character garnered such a strong reaction that he lost his job. For non Koreans, it will be hard to discern where & what the main character is actually doing at the end of the movie. They set up the male lead but then left him hanging ,as if things were changed, or edited out. Jo Jung Suk is better than this movie, why isn't he given better (written) parts ?

Great Comedy but Lacks Message

I was having a high hope for this one. While the main topic is around women harassment, the story totally fails to tackle it. The story has a great build up, even the ML becomes a woman and feel the mistreatment himself. However the resolution is pretty blunt. The story neither imply how to fight nor tackle this harassment issue. Instead, it just shows that everyone lives happily at the end, which doesn't necessarily mean a closure.

On the positive side, JJS plays (both) pilot excellently. Also this show is supported by an excellent comedy premise.
