interesting

It was a good drama loved the fact that we were able to see Naksu but I would have liked to see her act as a villain/ evil like in episode 1 in part 1 of aos. I was confused on why some actors didn't remember Naksu when they fought her in part 1 so that was a little confusing to me and the explanation of naksu confused me but at least they explained it multiple times.
I like the storyline but the memory loss was too long. I feel like they skipped out essential parts of the timeline as it felt rushed at the end. loved the crown prince wish there was more scene with him in it.

Twists and turns -

This was a great second part. I only have a couple complaints-
1. why is there no merchandise showing like a cartoon style Go Won with his turtle! so cute!

and the other complaint.
I felt really robbed because we do not get to see Junk Uk’s reaction after the fire bird situation was resolved . I was so bummed by the flash forward that’s what makes this an 8 vrs a 10.

it was still fantastic but it could have been perfection!

I loved the costuming and color choices as well

|| OVERALL ||

For K-dramas, having a season 2 / part 2 is always hard as it has to live up to the usually better season 1. Given there were only 10 episodes, I think part 2 did do Alchemy of Souls justice. Certain bits seemed a bit slow and unnecessary, some bits seemed very last episode of Game of Thrones (i.e. "what...that's it...?"), but all in all I was pleased.

**I recommend this drama to those that like a fantasy kdrama with well-rounded genres of romance, comedy, and a bit of light action.

|| DETAILS ||

= Story =
*Premise - A continuation of the previous story unravelling the unanswered questions, but also kind of like a new story of its own. Again, set in Daeho a place mages, soul shifters, and magic exist.
*Genre - More of romance and comedy, a little bit of action. The heart-wrenching scenes were well done.
*Plot - The 10 episodes could be split in two parts. First part focused on the love story of the main couple. Second part saving Daeho (the nation they live in). I really have to praise the scenes with the main couple because there were just too many heart fluttering moments. It's really difficult to follow part 1 as the audience already have a main couple in mind and to bring someone else brought mixed reactions, however personally I was very convinced with this new couple. Flaws of the plot, though, were the scenes they dedicated to certain side stories instead of exploring other more important side stories. There are only 10 episodes and not a lot of time, so was it really necessary to give so many scenes (sometimes even a whole episode) to side stories that don't really progress the main plot. For example, sorry Seo Yul, but the whole thing with him, So-Yi, and the bloodworm...good riddance. Maybe more scenes could be spent on elaborating Jin Mu. He's the main antagonist, but extremely not convincing. He caused so much trouble for so long, but he isn't really a strong mage to be honest, and both his demises were so quick and easy. Same with the firebird...something that can cause so much destruction but a bit useless. That is why it gave me the death of the night king vibes (Game of Thrones reference). Anyways, this season is less focused on the action scenes so with that in mind and the fact that they had only 10 episodes to cover everything, despite the flaws, I'm pleased with the plot.
*Characters - Well, we already know most if not all the characters from the previous season. They all had new troubles, and the way the matured and solved each of their problems were nice. Generally the side stories did not take away from the main couple which was nice.
*Ending - Got a little greedy and thought we would be in for another kiss. I liked the ending. To be very honest, despite reading audience's comments on how the Hong Sisters' dramas usually ended, I was quite sure about the direction the plot would end with, and I wasn't wrong.

= Cast =
*Acting - In part 1, Jung So Min really stole the show. In part 2, I rarely say this, but both Lee Jae Wook and Go Youn Jung did exceptionally well. Their characters are the most complex and layered, and they showed that very well.
*Chemistry - I personally think Lee Jae Wook and Go Youn Jung's chemistry was better than with Jung So Min. They seemed more like a couple and it extended off-screen. Those kiss scenes....damn. It's crazy to think that it's the first time Go Youn Jung had kiss scenes in dramas. The way they fed off each other's energies was crazy. They both were great, in contrast to the previous season in which I felt Jung So Min was the stronger actor.

= OST =
Great songs, especially Ailee's "I'm Sorry". Fantastic.

|| A LESSON ABOUT BALANCE ||

In a place too dark, light brings warmth. In a place too bright, shadow brings coldness. Like Yin and Yang, a balance is required in many things in life.

Alchemy of Souls: Season 2 – A Bittersweet and Powerful Conclusion

Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow picks up where Season 1 left off, delivering a darker, more emotionally intense chapter that beautifully wraps up the epic saga of love, fate, and magic in Daeho.

This season introduces a significant change — Go Youn-jung takes over the role of Naksu, now in her original body. While fans were initially unsure about the cast switch, she quickly proves herself with a graceful and powerful performance, seamlessly continuing the spirit of the character. Lee Jae-wook once again delivers an outstanding portrayal of Jang Uk, now hardened by loss and wielding a frightening level of power.

Season 2 is shorter, with only 10 episodes, but it packs in a lot — deep character development, long-awaited answers, and emotional reunions. The tone is more mature and melancholic, focusing on healing, redemption, and sacrifice. The romance between Jang Uk and Naksu evolves beautifully, filled with longing, pain, and quiet strength.

Visually and musically, the drama maintains its high standard with stunning visuals, intricate costumes, and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack that enhances the mood perfectly.

Overall, Alchemy of Souls: Season 2 is a satisfying and poetic conclusion to one of the most beloved fantasy K-dramas of recent years. It’s not just a sequel — it’s a soul-stirring finale that stays with you long after the credits roll.

GOYOUNJUNG!

THE DRAMA IS SO GOOD, Y'ALL SHOULD WATCH THIS. the characters is all so loveable, i love how they portrayed yeong's cheerful and bubbly character. in season 1 yeong is the shadow and uk is the light but now uk is the shadow and Yeong is the light, there's so many parallel that hurts me. BUT OVERALL THIS IS GREAT! i love the main couple and the second couple, the way they are looking at each other got me laughing and giggling. she's so bold and confident she's pretty and she knows it! when he says that she's pretty, i remember the scene where he says she will always look pretty to him. it just shows that they are destined to be together, they are separated for three years, THREE YEARS. but in the end he still found her and will love her again. their love story will always break me but also made me believe that love do exist

I don't understand why a lot of people are disappointed

I've seen a lot of reviews saying the first season is much better and that the second season was unnecessary. Are they even aware of the story and the dynamics? I personally loved this season. The chemistry is different of course. The other one was chaotic and here it's a little melancholic. Doesn't change the fact that this season is definitely on par with the first one. Go Younjung became an instant favourite of mine through this one drama. I wish people wouldn't hate this season as much and give it a chance.

Best Drama I have watch so far (and I have watched a lot...)

Best masterpiece ever. I really do not understanf the bad reviews and comments. S2 is my favorite and is so powerful. Everything in this drama is perfection. Actors, story, OST... This is the only drama I have rewatched and I could watch several times. The main character is so actractive and the romance is so beautiful that makes you sticked to your screen. The mix between historical drama, fantasy with special effects well realized makes it really entertaining and addictive. There is no boring episodes or moment as I could had experienced in other drama. All ingredients are there to create emotions, love, laughs, sadness, hope... I have watched it twice but I will surely watch it again and again

Underrated masterpiece!!

I saw many other reviews. In which it was said that this season is not as good as season 1. But for me this season proved to be very good. It turned out much better than I thought. Everyone's acting is great. I fell in love with the lead. Her acting was very good. Her cuteness and her chemistry with main lead was very good. Many people liked the chemistry of the main leads in Season 1, as I did.But that doesn't mean the chemistry between the lead and the main character isn't good. I really liked their chemistry and his caring for her.i binge watched it.

Overall it was a very good series .
I feel very good after a long time.if you like historical fantasy drama than go for it.

Came for the fantasy, stayed for Jang Uk and naksu.

I went into Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow expecting the same magic as Alchemy of Souls… but emotionally, this season felt completely different.
Season 1 was chaotic, fun, and adventurous, while Season 2 felt like living in the aftermath of heartbreak. Jang Uk’s pain, the mystery around Bu-yeon, and the quiet tension between them carried the entire season. Every scene felt heavy but beautiful.
The biggest problem? Only 10 episodes. The story felt rushed, some characters deserved better, and a few conflicts ended way too quickly.
Still… the ending gave the closure I desperately needed. Not perfect, but definitely emotional.

Great if you are a fan of the lead couple. So so if not.

1/ WHAT I LIKED:

- Naksu / Cho Yeong / Jin Bu Yeon : We left Naksu as a petrified soul shifter at the end of part 1. We find her here as Bu Yeon with a new face and new powers. She will slowly regain her memories as Naksu forcing a struggle of souls which will determine the fate of our heroine. I thought the transitions were well made despite some conflicting theories. I enjoyed the character’s journey in this part 2. I did not want her to go back to her sword days. I was content of her evolution.
- Jang Uk: Dark Uk is pretty badass as a bounty hunter of soul shifters. Scheming Uk was quite ok when he counter schemed the bad guys' plans. His role became a bit messy in the middle part but he makes de last and decisive moves.
- Uk Yeong : I found Uk's relationship with Yeong sizzling at first, then rather fun and cute because of many magic moments they threw in the drama just for the sake of the two characters. I enjoyed these moments. The relationship has some back and forth a little bit annoying especially from Uk’s side, but then Naksu starts to find her memories back. It was a little underwhelming how they finally recognized each other but I liked that they did not make a huge thing of it. Instead, they made choices to address the challenges and issues they were in and accepted their fated encounter. I liked that quiet responsible approach.
- Jin Bu Yeon / Ji Seol Ran: The truth about the character explained and resolved the situation.
- Closure: The drama gave a proper ending to most of the characters.

2/ WHAT I DID NOT LIKE:

- The plot was thin and I felt it lacked consistency and smart writing. Jin Mu looked a weak villain and his demise was not even impressing. Rather funny. There are some twists about the royals and the mages and one character which were decent but a little too "easy" to be called "twists".
- Master Lee : Man became annoying suckling theories out of his thumb.
- Love triangle. Funny in part 1. Annoying in part 2. CP used to hit on Mudeok but it looked acceptable as a race for an unmarried woman. Here he hits on her new version knowing she is “married”. The confusing status of Bu Yeon and the sense of no propriety of the CP just for the sake of love triangle was upsetting for me. Yul 's trajectory was terrible. He made rash, out of character decisions that made him unlikeable at some point.
- Dang Gu was useless other than giving hints until the final fight.
- I wished they toned down Park Jin's funny new hobby but ok it has some good purpose at times.

3/ CHARACTERS - ACTORS:

- Need to praise the acting of Go Yoon Jung. I was skeptical. She bluffed me. I loved her in this drama. Great job composing a complex character who inherited different names and pasts.
- Lee Jae Wook was good. He created a very cold, powerful Uk with a sensitive touch in this part 2.
- Shin Seung Ho made the CP quite fun and likeable despite his flaws.
- Good acting from the rest of the main cast except for Yoo In Soo that I found a bit extreme in his expressions.

4/ OST: Very good. Loved it.

5/ REWATCHABLE VALUE: Yes for the cute leads and their fun emotional scenes and the action scenes.

6/ OVERALL: A proper part 2 for the ones who love Uk and Yeon and want to know their fate from being born to being master pupil then dead and revived to recognizing each other again… There are some draggy parts, some contradicting and confusing revelations and a lacking plot but overall, the story of these two is nice and entertaining. I enjoyed watching this drama week in week out and comment it with the fellow Alchemists. 8/10.

Not what you expect but absolutely worth it

I have to say I didn't liked the first season that much and forced myself a little bit into finishing it (20 Episodes were way too many!) But the second season is just amazing. It is different from what you expect so I understand people who didn't liked it that much but I just think it is great. The acting, soundtrack and the plot... Everything is logic and high quality! Go Youn Jungs acting is just amazing! Also the character development is brilliant. I watched 8 Episodes so far and I am soo exited. Also I think 10 episodes is a good duration for this being a second part! I can only recommend it to you. Watch it! Edit: I finished all episodes and it is really worth it!

chemistry was good...

Not up to the level of part 1 but surely a finest quality maintained part 2. Hats off to hong sisters for an amazing fantasy story. Yet again they proved that no one can beat them when it comes to this genre. Amazingly written beautiful screenplay.

Part 2 was so rushed that I felt. Also Naksu couldn't beat the bold mudeok's performance and charisma she created in Part1. It's about the actor not about the character. Just because she is super good looking doesn't mean she can climb up to the level of mudeok. Of course she did her part decently but mudeok always comes first.

The story is the main important part which i really enjoyed apart from anything. Every episode was a different experience from one another. So many characters also have very complicated situations, tensions, and even more beautiful fantasy elements. For example jinyoon relics, the four seasons, the magic of mages, Soul ejector, the kings star, ice stone, Fire bird and more... Also there are some beautiful romantic scenes with some nice osts..

Lee jae wook and his strong comeback after the disaster Do do sol sol la la sol was 🔥 also others. Everyone was superb. I don't know how you will feel when you binge all at once. But it was a wonderful ongoing experience for me.

Overall Alchemy of Soul is brilliant. Maybe you guys have different opinions about the Ending, As i said earlier compared to part 1 am not completely satisfied with part 2 but it was decent. Maybe they rushed things or lost the flow in the finale Episodes... Anyway.. definitely give it a try...
