Lu Wu Yi, the youngest nine-tailed fox of the organization Wu Xiang Yue, is on a mission to find the great demon Xiao Wei. Disguised as a priest, she enters Wei Manor in Luo'an and discovers that others are also hunting Xiao Wei. Among them are Wu Shi Guang, a vengeful demon; Wu Wang Yan, her cunning nine-tailed fox sister; and Ji Ling, an innocent-looking priest with a mysterious past. All of them seek the Dragon Deity's power, but their motives vary: some want to protect, others to kill. As they navigate battles, friendships, and romance, they face obstacles and make sacrifices to protect peace and change their fates.

Both the male leads have heavy responsibility that lies on their shoulders.
It is set on historical with wuxia (martial arts) elements.

This is a short movie by the same director as my journey to you. This has the same dark and gripping tone .

Do you actually need any other reason to get this into your recommendation list. Umm maybe the fact that the complete execution of the drama was so good, that it earned lots of viewers without any promotions could get it some brownie points.
But I would surely suggest it a must watch, cause it surely can be categorised as one of the best dramas of 2023!

Both are visually stunning gothic horror romances directed by Guo Jingming. This particular director has a distinctive visual storytelling style that's present in all of his works.

The Dark River" is a secret assassin organization formed by the Su, Xie, and Mu families, led by the Grand Elders. When the Elders fall critically ill from a mysterious poison, the families seize the chance to rebel. Su Mu Yu, leader of the Spider Shadow guard, enlists the divine healer Bai He Huai from the Medicine King Valley to save the Elders while defending them from attacks by rival assassins.

The female lead is also a female assassin who infiltrates a political marriage to become one of the prince's prospective wives in order to kill the prince.

The fact that both of them are probably one of the best costume drama of 2023!
The costume and cinematography of MJTY is just fabulous! It has lots, like a lots of martial arts. The plot of both drama are dark and intriguing!
Most importantly spy × target troupe! That is a must for, like so many romance lovers!
If you are fan of black bellied characters, mystery, scheming and witty character, this one's a must watch! None of the characters are witty and dumb, in fact every single character is so scheming! And that whole thing is so satisfying!

From the plot it sounds a lot like my journey to you. Getting married to the male lead with a hidden agenda. It seems like the only difference is that blade dance with you is a shorter film.

My Journey to You has more romance than The Untamed. But I kinda get similar vibes from the story. Both dramas are full of scheme and plot twist. I think if you like The Untamed, you might enjoy My Journey to You too or vice versa.

If you are looking for another compelling wuxia, then Side Story Volant has even better fight scenes (which I typically fast forward when it seems the fight is stuck in to the story just to have a fight--but not here). The cinematography is not as dark and mysterious, but the story pulls you in,

It is a costume detective suspense romance drama, set in the Wanli years of the Ming Dynasty, telling the story of the beautiful man County Ling Panyue and the terrorist servant Yang Caiwei in the process of solving a strange case, from mutual disgust to mutual love and love. (Ju Jing Yi and Liu Xue Yi).
