A very mature and original wuxia drama....

I don't know what else to add as previous reviews have already beaten me to it....but I will say that I enjoyed the depth and development of the characters in this drama - this even applies to secondary and tertiary characters'good' and 'bad'.
I am quite new to Cdramas ( switched to them only in 2023 after 4 years of kdramas....😂) and this is the most 'mature' chinese fantasy wuxia drama I have watched yet - even most of the scenes and shots have a dark blue or cool hue to them adding to that realism and maturity.

Both the ML and FL already worked together on 'love between Fairy and Demon' 2022 with Dylan Wang, and from their past performances, I am very glad to see them act again, upgrading their choice of characters, showcasing their talent and versatility.

There is also an unexpected plot twist that even more savvy cdrama fans might not pick up on or maybe, but it definitely reflects the age old 'truth' that sometimes the most dangerous and unlikely enemies are much closer to us than we think, causing more harm than we can ever imagine!

I might be 'old fashioned' but I appreciated how the use of 'magic' was minimal in comparison to other Chinese fantasy dramas - yes the characters have super martial arts skill and strength, but for example, when the ML is requested to pass the 3 trials, he uses his brain, wit and socio-emotional intelligence! And when 'magic' is 'identified' it is referred to as 'witchcraft' causing some of the characters to fall sick or become consumed into evil by it- which is what it is, and none of that faffing around!

**Spoiler Alert**
There is news of a pregnancy in the last episode between the main characters ( not who you might assume and I won't say who....) which actually made me hopeful that the creators of this drama produce a second season, or expand the world or universe the story is based in.

Pleeeaeeeeeasssse! 🙏🙏🙏

yey or naurr???

First of all, I'd give this cdrama the credit for making me CRY A LOT, AND I SAY A LOT, this cdrama made me rethink for the ending (seriously) after a lot of thought I have decided to rate and give review because I just think that this drama deserves recognition in having a great storyline (although the ending made me REALLY MAD) I'd say that the story have given a lot of justice to each characters, given that I have time to rethink my thoughts about this wu xia, I would say that a lot of viewers would really think that this cdrama is a naur, but after some days I have realize that this was actually a yey although each leads didn't have their own happy ending I just think that it was just not the right time for the FL, and as per the rumour she might have already known about her twin sister and even if they won, she might have still be constantly finding the justice that she might felt she deserve after all those years of pain (emotionally, mentally, and physically) while she's still with wufeng) after all they haven't really killed all those who are the root cause of all the evilness. It was a good wu xia, but then again, the ending really made a big hole on the viewers heart and up until now a lot of viewers wants season 2, but I guess that would be in the future or not?? knowing the status of the director and the film itself, but I really wish that this cdrama would be given a chance to redeem itself.

Just dark with worst ending

i got back on this the starting felt so boring, but I couldn't find other drama so decided to watch I should say I got hooked and liked the drama but the ending shit ? Chinese drama specially fantasy and historical are always sad , dying or tragedy, there's literally no romance except from 2 kiss scene they're really good couple in this but story focus is 1 % romance, I am annoyed by shit ending? seriously can't give a happy ending? even though the villian gang was still alive how come they are waiting right outside?and FML is dumb enough to go alone ?just before seeing ending I wanted to give this 10 because I got hooked and liked the story but the ending I wanted to give 1, I have no problem with actors, acting, chinese story are still not korean level to me,poor writing, and drama are not satisfying to me ? even though they haven't made FML ml die in the end but why show the same loop ? the last scene was same just few eps before,
The focus isn't romance but the background story, they haven't mentioned slight romance in this ,I got hooked ,ignored if romance wasn't there but they make it worse by bad ending

A Beautifully Dark Tale That Ends Too Soon ??

My Journey to You stands apart from almost every historical C-drama I have watched. Instead of filling the screen with bright colors, pink-and-white blossoms, and an unrealistically beautiful, doll-like world, it embraces shadows, muted tones, and an almost black-and-white visual style. The atmosphere is often cold, heavy, and bitter—but that darkness is exactly what makes the drama feel so fresh and captivating. Not every story needs to exist in a romantic pink fantasy, especially when it revolves around spies, assassins, deception, and betrayal. In a world like this, darkness is not merely an aesthetic choice; it is an essential part of the story. 🗡️🌑
The drama begins with a powerful, thrilling opening that immediately draws us into its mysterious world of hidden identities and conflicting loyalties. The plot unfolds like a slow-burning mystery, while the haunting cinematography, elegant costumes, dimly lit interiors, and cold landscapes create a constant sense of danger. At times, the story is emotionally bitter, but I found that bitterness far more compelling than the artificial beauty of many conventional historical dramas.

The acting is another major strength. Esther Yu gives Yun Weishan a restrained intensity, while Zhang Linghe brings warmth and emotional sincerity to Gong Ziyu. Their relationship develops through vulnerability, suspicion, and the difficult decision to trust someone in a world where betrayal is always possible. 🌙

However, I personally found the second couple, Gong Shangjue and Shangguan Qian, much more fascinating than the main couple. Cheng Lei and Lu Yuxiao share remarkable chemistry, and every interaction between them feels like a dangerous game of attraction, suspicion, manipulation, and unspoken emotion. Shangguan Qian is particularly captivating; she moves beautifully between vulnerability and calculation, making it difficult to tell when she is performing and when her feelings are genuine. Gong Shangjue’s cold and controlled intensity complements her perfectly. 🔥

Their relationship is darker, more psychologically complex, and, in my opinion, has much more to say than the main romance. They understand each other deeply, yet their instincts for survival and self-protection make complete trust almost impossible. Their tragedy does not come from the absence of love, but from their inability to believe in it before it is too late. For me, the second couple—and especially Shangguan Qian’s layered characterization—became the emotional heart of the drama. 🥀

Unfortunately, after such a strong beginning and intriguing buildup, the story seems to stop in the final episode. It does not even feel like an intentional open ending; it feels unfinished, as if several important chapters are missing. Character arcs are left suspended, major questions remain unanswered, and the audience is denied the emotional closure the story deserved. The ending does not conclude the journey—it merely interrupts it. 😅

Despite its deeply frustrating finale, My Journey to You remains unforgettable because of its strong performances, layered characters, emotionally charged relationships, and bold visual identity. Its darkness is not a weakness—it is one of its greatest innovations. This is an elegant and haunting story in which everyone is hiding something, and love may be the most dangerous secret of all. 🌑✨

My Take On "My Journey To You"

I honestly was not expecting myself to be so infatuated with this c-drama. I usually don't watch dramas with this kind of cinematography, but after seeing this drama on plenty of other platforms I genuinely got interested. The story and the chemistry with each characters got me so hooked in this c-drama that I was even surprising myself. I also plan on watching Fangs of Fortune afterwards since most of the casting members seem to be the same. I loved watching this drama and I would definitely recommend someone to watch this.

Suspense+martial arts+eye candy cast+aesthz

Hello every1, just finished watching My Journey To You & as an asian drama nerd i can say that it was a good one; with eye candy cast, rich character bgs, amazing cinematography, interesting plotline and an ability to tell a story that keep viewers hungry for more.

Here are my 2 cents on this drama & a lot of questions that i want ur help in answering. I’ll go characterwise.

Yun Wei Shan : I think she is a good person who just wants 2 live a normal life & is ready to show mercy and love whenever the need arises. The evil did not snatch her of her humanity. She says that she doesn’t kill innocent which is weird like how she survived till now in wufeng without compleating her missions which mostly involves a lot of murder.

Gong Zi Yu : He is like a small puppy busy in his own world with no knowledge of the workings of the real world, like he is literally the son of the sword weilder, a potential heir & he never tried to train & become able to protect gong family, untill he is forced to by Gong Shang Jue & that too cuz of his ego. Although he is shown weak since birth but there must be atleast one skill that he should be good at right? but nothing. And if he is so weak then how the hell he is able to master all the saber techniques afterwords? maybe just a lack of discipline on his part before.

Shangguan Qian : Made me hate her character which shows how good of an actor she is. Full of lies & deception, don’t know till now if she really is from Gushan sect or not or if she ever loved Gong Shang Jue . She said that she is pregnant with a child of the Gong family not specifically Gong Shang Jue so father could be any1 maybe Gong Huan Yu.

Gong Shang Jue : Very able member of the Gong family, full of painful past & deserves more.

Gong Zi Shang : The comic relief of the drama. As the heir of the Shang sect she should work more on improving it, well now that she got Jin Fan maybe she will focus more on her responsibilities & prove her daddy wrong.

Jin Fan : Regrets not becoming a red jade guardian. Well it was mentioned that after the third trial the personal guardian of the trial taker were sent to be trained as red jade guardians so he should be able to fulfil his dream right?

Gong Yuan Zhi : Our meow kitty. Very talented & hardworking. ready 2 burn the world 4 his gege. Now that all is well b/w gong siblings i guess he will be the most loved cuz he is the youngest and will be spoiled by every1.

Young Master Yue : Tragic love story. I guess he has 2 marry cuz he is the only heir of Yue lineage & he needs to continue the bloodline. Let’s hope he will find love & a companion in his wife.

Young Master Xue Tong Zi : So this boy ages backwards & forward every 4 yrs. He said he’ll forget Xue Gong Zi once he reaches a particular point in his training, i guess he already achieved it but why haven’t he forgotten Xue Gong Z?

Young Master Hua : O god, how much we live to gain approval from our parents/ loved ones. He didn’t know until the end how much his father loved/ respected him all his life. Lack of communication 4m daddy’s side.

Han Ya Si : Mother raven did everything he can 4 YWS & her sister and maybe for other assassins too. Got a satisfactory ending, fulfilling what he wanted the most, that is YWS’s safety & freedom.

Some final things :

Elder Xue mentioned that there were 4 not 3 families in the back hill & Feng sect was removed but why? maybe they joined the bad guys & became Wufeng sect 2 take revenge & thatswhy they know about Infinte heat.

I think YWS is dead in the end cuz no1 is able 2 betray Wufeng & live 2 tell d tale & also how did wufeng know that she’ll come to meet her sis unless it was actually them who called YWS by the letter. YWS was also kind of sad before leaving ZIyu as if she knew what is about 2 happen.

All in all, a must watch drama.

I love this drama so much

because of yun weishan. I've grown to like Esther and I finally understand what it means when they say that prejudice in one's heart is like a mountain. Many people judge Esther is too one's side and I used to be one of them. I didnt watch her show before but I dare to say she can't act by looking at many comments without bothering watch the drama. while watching this drama. I realize I only cried two time and each time all relate to yun weishan. one she eats the porridge while crying and other one is when she cried for her sister. what's an amazing performance.
I have so many characters that mean the world to me but yun weishan is number one white moonlight in my heart. She's not the most beautiful and not the perfect character but I just love ah yun the most.
Many audiences failed to understand her and only see her as a love struck villain that betray her own organization. They failed to see the pain and conflict beneath her calm exterior. Just read some comments here. Most of them don't understand yun weishan even a bit. They almost don't understand the plot of the drama yet dare to shade the characters .

Dark and different

This is probably the first time I had a little difficulty to keep up with a cdrama, though how bad the execution maybe.
Firstly, the total atmosphere and sets of the Gong house is very dark which was not very eye appealing and pleasing for me.Somehow I couldn't accustom myself to the House of the Gong's and especially the back hill.
I didn't get why in the first place the back hill existed and why do they need to live so discreetly. Its whole and sole purpose was only the 3 trials and not much more, which I felt was to drag on the story for a longer time.
The male lead,Gong Ziyi, and his aide Jin Fan were the only characters which were a bit pleasant.Others never made me interested in them. The romantic tracks between the 2 couples never attaracted me throughout the drama. They either lacked intensity or were always filled with suspicions. The track between Shangguan Qian and Gong Shangjue was very boring for me.The main lead couple were a bit better than the second couple.
From the beginning, each and every scene was only written to either arouse suspicions or just put us in suspense, but a solid plot was never presented.Every frame was only to keep on making us guessing but nothing else.
The constant fighting between brothers of Gong family, even though they face threat from Wufeng organisation, did not make any sense to me at all.
The last episodes has too many twists to be revealed and too many questions were answered but everything was a bit confusing.
Though the start of the drama seemed interesting, somehow I could not adapt to the drama, but the costumes were good.
Maybe it's not my cup of tea or maybe I didn't understand, but the plot failed in execution though it has an excellent story.

so cute

In My Journey to You, Yu Shuxin proved her extraordinary acting talent when she successfully transformed from a cheerful person to the mysterious, calm, and strategic character of Yun Weishan. "Yu Shuxin not only amazes with her beautiful appearance in every cinematic frame, but her dedication to performing challenging action scenes proves that she is a versatile and committed actress."

Amazing but horrible ending

One of my favorite dramas. It had enough action, martial arts, and scheming to keep me engrossed, and thats pretty rare. I loved almost every character, the only thing was that the male lead was way too trusting and kind of simp the whole time 🤣🤣 but i still loved it. The one star off is for the ending. What a joke. It is one of my favorite dramas with THE WORST ENDING ive ever seen. Worse than just a cliff hanger, they give you no idea what happens in the end. If you watch this drama skip like the last 15 minutes. Because it ruined the show.

Watching it again 6 months later and its just as good as the first time. Honesty this is the only show that i havent had to fast forward parts that were boring or unnecesary. I feel like every scene is necessary in this show, that may be because there are less episodes that the normal 32-40 episode cdrama. The visuals and the martial arts scenes are unmatched and the cinematography is the best ive seen in probably any drama ive watched. The cast is the most beautiful cast ive ever seen. Almost every single character is drop dead gorgeous. And the funny sister character is my favorite from any drama ive ever watched, she makes me giggle all the time but also has her serious side which will break your heart when shes hurting. If youre contemplating watching it just do it! DONT SKIP THIS SHOW ❤️❤️

A MUST WATCH

I tried watching this and oh my gosh, all four main characters and even the supporting ones are absolutely gorgeous and charming! The plot was really good — it kept me hooked, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. I enjoyed every episode! The actors delivered great performances, and the production quality, visuals, and costumes were amazing. I also loved how they changed their beautiful outfits all the time, adding even more charm to every scene. The whole drama was engaging, emotional, and well-paced from beginning to end. Highly recommended!
