Uninteresting

It's been four hours or four episodes and both the characters and the pacing are exhausting. It started off with an interesting concept of assassins infiltrating the Gong family but the assassins are so monotonous, it doesn't really make sense for them to "blend" in anywhere as they only seem to have skills for stealth. As grandiose, secretive, and careful as this Gong family is, their way of choosing brides also don't make much sense. The same goes for their "rule" of having to have a leader at all times based on who is present, no matter how incompetent the next leader is, also doesn't make sense.

- The conversations are all seriously snail-paced and not very effective.
- The two main FL assassins are uninteresting.
- The main ML (incompetent leader) is uninteresting and is a fool who falls in love foolishly.
- The flamboyant elder sister who's supposed to be the humor lifeline so far in the series, is also uninteresting.

The only character that seems to be interesting at all so far is Gong Shang Jue, but he hasn't really officially entered into the scenes yet. Nevertheless, four hours later and my facial expression from watching the series has been as expressionless as the characters so far. Slightly higher score is for production quality.

GOOD LOOKING CASTS

Only 4 episodes that I watch his drama, not so much opinion but I notice few things that make this drama stand out. All the cast are so good looking, easy on the eyes. Esther Yu looks like her real age, could see clearly Zhang LingHi was a much younger man. Only the oldest JieJie that's light (although she's suck in dancing), setting and costumes are beautiful, too much dialogue exchange without story progress: dramatic monologue. No much entertainment..

1. Background music / Ambient
Over dramatized background music. Simple scene accompanied with music that focus to create a certain atmosphere or state of mind, a dark edgy one, intended as cinematic thriller background. Everybody talk alot; scheming, explaining, threat, smirking, intimidation, all done in talking. Appeared there's none of happiness or cheerful on the scenes.
2. Denigrated Women
Survival fight on the mud (ep2), selecting a bride from 10 women and when they don't get selected they'd be killed - women tried to win favors from the male counterparts - to be the bride of Gong family she needs to be in perfect health like weekly health check up or something; felt like worst selection of a Queen (oh...but whatever). Hmmm...not a great,

A STUPID ENDING

I think it will be the second season, so they sent the wufang girls out and heralded a new adventure. The Swordsman is also waiting for the woman he loves. It didn't happen.
In general, the series was very well constructed, well blended, the story was tried to be reflected properly, and it was one of the series with a different narrative that I have watched recently. I think it depends on the director. I got some American influences. Different things were tried, especially places, clothes, styles, lifestyles, secrecy, intelligence, swordplay, advanced techniques and mystery were included and a blend was made. It looked nice to me. Congratulations to the director. However, there were also mistakes that I don't know whether to call small or big. Especially when Wufeng was introduced, his ruthlessness, his ability to train invincible swordsmen or fighters, and his ruthlessness were mentioned. The way they use people is given in a very strange way, such as cruelty, using poison, being given an antidote if you complete your mission. Likewise, the Gong family, known for its closedness, secrecy, infiltration, security measures, swordsmanship, and Yellow and Gold Guards, was introduced as an uncompromising group. However, we saw that it was very easily infiltrated. Games were played knowingly and unknowingly. Likewise, with a little trick, Wufeng was tricked and the sword masters and fighters they praised so much were killed. Likewise, a great swordsman was created from an irresponsible child. The person suddenly became perfect. His mind became clear. He mastered all sword games and martial arts and became invincible. He became resistant to poisons. Finally, our daughter, the Wufeng spy who stole the endless heat, left home saying she was pregnant. Escaped. This person did not love the person he married. But we saw that he suddenly grew white flowers and watered them. ShangJue, who kept his distance from that woman, also started to like her. Now we will see in the future that this woman will do new things and cause trouble for the GONG family. Unexpected behavior from the highly praised Shangjue. Unexpected belief, deceived. I don't know if he will have children. But I think they will start the new season by playing tricks on WeiShan or taking him hostage. These were mistakes that should not have happened. I liked the actors very much. I didn't find any faults with the game. I even congratulate the players. The only thing I find faulty is that Yu Shu Xin plays with the same face for 24 episodes. If there is a sequel, he will play. Dead eyes. Eyebrows curved to give a sad facial expression. This face has never changed in good times, bad times, excitement, anger, fight, love or practice. The director said that this face of yours should be like this, spiritually. It remained that way. Is this how normal is? I don't know if he's not smiling or if he doesn't have any other behavior. I also watched a little of another series. It didn't seem that bad to me, but I couldn't figure it out here. I wondered if she was chosen for this role because of her cleavage, that is, her physique. However, Lu Yu Xiao, the actor in the same situation, on the contrary, gave all the facial expressions. She laughed, got angry, rejoiced, pretended to be in love. I love games played. His face changed, why didn't this one change, director? I didn't like these. I liked Zhang Ling He very much. It seemed to me that he grew up with his role. Well done. Ryang Cheng, Jolin Jin, the ridiculous personality who makes us laugh with different variations, Tian Jia Jin the Poisoner, Omid, Ai Mi. They were the players I liked. I liked them all, but these a little more. Let me say this for Ai Mi. It makes you think this girl can't be at this age. I've watched a few more TV series. Near perfect acting. A simple and pure and very beautiful face. Beautiful smile, beautiful look, very good facial expressions. He did his stubbornness especially well. I saw a very bright future. Hopefully the future will be clear. I think she will be a sought-after actress. He has already become one of my favorite actors. I congratulate him. Enjoy watching...

It seems much ado about nothing and kind of R&J to me.

[I respect other reviewers and their individual choices. There are plenty of dramas out there to suit every taste. Direct your support or lack of to the drama itself. If you support this drama, good for you and please continue to. Please write your own good reviews. If you do not support this drama, please also write your own review. We are reviewers. Not personal attackers. We review. We do not attack. Thank you. Reserve your opinions for your reviews and not for the reviewer who is responding to the drama itself and not to other external aspects. I am responding to this drama that I have watched and I am not personally attacking any actor or actress in real life. After all, I do not know them at all and have nothing against them. No hate on them at all! It is all based on this particular drama only/ this particular reel life only.]

I was kind of shocked by how cutesy and high-pitched the FL's voice was in another famous series (which made me feel rather repulsed then) and so, I was quite skeptical about this drama. Nonetheless, I just watched "Kunning Palace" and loved the ML as Xie Wei/ Xie Ju An in it and so, I thought "let's go!".

These are my honest thoughts about this particular drama, and I have nothing against any actor or actress in real life.

Upon starting the very 1st episode, it was pleasant to see that FL had a different sort of role in this drama and I thought "seems good". The colour of the drama and the production and costumes ... looked high class and polished. After watching the action-packed 1st episode, I looked forward to the 2nd episode. All seemed quite great and I was quite intrigued.

However, as I continued watching, I found myself feeling less intrigued and more bemused and even bored by the shenanigans of the deadly spies... everything seemed to be going round in circles and was even rather confusing to me. The four factions (can I call them 'factions') on Wu Feng's side as well as on Gong's side were perplexing and rather boring. My thoughts were "this is starting to feel sort of like R&J where we have 2 feuding factions who are just feuding and feuding and much ado about nothing". I felt that there was a lot of posturing going on but nothing much worthy was going on.

Currently, I am in two minds about this drama - to continue or to drop. And so, it is "On-Hold" at the moment. While I recognise that this production is a good one and big budget with good actors and actresses, it did not make me feel invested and keen. It also did not make me feel the urge to continue watching to find out how things would pan out.

Let me see how I should proceed from here ;o)

A Mixture of Darkness and Comedy

This drama gives the vibe of a suspense drama yet manage to mix it with a light comedy through the role of the Eldest Sister. At first she looked familiar but I couldn't pinpoint where I saw her before until Ep.5. She was one of the guest in Keep Running. Oh my goshhhh, no wonder...LOL.
I have tried to watch Esther Yu's works but it failed to keep me completing the dramas as most of her roles were not my cup of tea. Sometimes I think she only managed to play the role of bubbly-pretty, and somehow less wise girl. But, this time she captivates me through her roles and I think I portrays it pretty well.
Zhang Ling He, well, my first time watching his work and I think I will put him on my watch list. His role is in this drama induces women's protective nature. A nice and honest guy with strengths and vulnerabilities.

Mixed feelings...

My first impression is that there are 2 main appeals to this drama. The first is that people have been wanting to see this CP since LBFAD. The second is that people are always criticizing Yu Shuxin only playing cutesy, babyish characters and this was her chance to add something more serious to her portfolio. So far, neither box is really ticked for me. These two had more chemistry in LBFAD and I wasn't even rooting for them to end up together in that show.

As for Yu Shuxin, her characters never annoyed me that much because I feel that she is a naturally bubbly person off camera. That is why seeing her play this stoic, dull person it looks like it is physically hurting her to play this character. To me Yun Wei Shan just looks and acts emotionally constipated. YS shines in her comedic roles and this boring character is just doing nothing for me. She did kill the fighting scenes though, especially the mud scene. That was badass.

As for Zhange Linghe, I find him to be just the opposite of YS. He shines in more serious, emotionally tormented roles. The Story of Kunning Palace is easily one his best roles to date in my opinion. He's a great actor and obviously very handsome but I'm not seeing either trait being taken advantage of in this show. His spoiled, prince type persona in the beginning just isn't a full sale, and then he's immediately thrown into a leadership role and changes his personality that fast? Also they went too heavy with his make up and wardrobe where he looks like a Japanese geisha, just with more glitter.

As for the rest of the characters/story...I'm really hoping things get more interesting. So far there's been gruelingly long scenes of dialogue with very little action. The first half of the first episode was spent talking about was going to happen. Then the 3rd or4th episode the two spies literally talked for 75% of the episode. There's slightly more passion/chemistry sparking between Shangguan Qian and Shang Jue but I feel like she spends more time talking about him, than actually with him.

As for the "villian" brothers. They're not very interesting. I'm not sure if we are supposed to pity them or hate them? Maybe both? And the comedy is not comedying. Nothing clearly meant to be funny actually made me laugh. Every "funny" scene feels inorganic and forced into the overall dark and serious setting. The only scene slightly amusing is when Shang Jue calls Ziyu out for noticing Shangguan Qian's good looks and Wei Shan gives him a death stare. But unless you're five years old you probably won't find Gong Zi Shang funny either.

The cinematography is pretty good. I have no problem with the dark vibes, graphics and settings. It was part of the appeal for me. The ambient sounds can be a little too intense for what's actually happening though. The background music for Shang Jue's entrance and for the scene where the brides arrive by boat was too dramatic for the scene. But overall the OST sounds decent and fits the drama well.

The premises of this drama seems really interesting so I'm going to stick it out until the end. It's a short enough drama to endure, even if things don't get better.

Dropped, tried my best!

First of all this is my OWN opinion. Feel free to don't agree with it. I just write my own experience down if you don't agree with it then please scroll down and don't read it.

I started watching this because I saw it had a good rating and I love fantasy, hidden identity, romance and action too. So I gave it a try. It's actually started intresting, with it's own dark, gloomy set. Since I haven't seen much episodes I can't really tell further. The two main leads meeting was quite intresting in the prison but I didn't mind it first. But when she actually tried to escape to lure him or idk what to was a bit stupid for me. I didn't much further since I got annoyed and dropped it without regrets.

I know a lot of people like this drama, because it's own beauty but I specialy didn't liked the dark theme. I especially like Esther dramas but I didn't liked this one.

My Journey to Jiuchen...

DRAMA INI PENUH VISUAL! benar-benar bagus

Alur ceritanya itu padahal serius, tapi mereka bisa buat scene-scene lucu yang out of the box T_T ! ost nya juga bagus banget sampe susah move on.
