battle of the bands meets weightlifting fairy meets time travel
after seeing this recommended for fans of 2521 and weightlifting fairy i had to find this somewhere and it was well worth itschool romance meets battle of the bands meets time travel meets some Dark subplot
the start of the show is pretty slow but it is WELL worth watching. its like they took weightlifting fairy and gave it a really weird twist that somehow works so well. i love choi hyun wook as a lead after seeing him in 2521 AND shin eun soo in general
timeskip finale is annoying. i hate timeskips. but everything before that is perfect. the timeplay is written really well and is surprisingly follow-able throughout. the song they write is good (but not the others really).

Twinkling Watermelon – A Masterpiece That Shines with Every Emotion
“Twinkling Watermelon” is easily one of the best K-dramas I’ve ever watched – it’s a perfect blend of entertainment, laughter, emotions, and heartwarming messages, all without a single villain. It’s one of those rare shows that makes you cry like a baby and laugh like a hyena on a sugar rush. I binge-watched it and finished it in just 2 days – that’s how addictive it is!The plot is engaging from the very first episode, and the concept of time travel is handled beautifully. The casting is *chef’s kiss*. Choi Woon Shik literally stole the show – he’s so effortlessly funny and charming, I’ve officially made him my new crush! The actor who plays the son and time traveler is incredibly talented – he brings both humor and emotion in the most genuine way.
And the actresses? Both the teenage and adult versions of the deaf character were perfect.
Also, I have to mention the other girl who time-traveled – her role was a beautiful surprise! She was bubbly, cute, and added so much energy to every scene she was in. Her chemistry with the lead characters made the whole drama even more enjoyable. She brought so much color and charm to the story.
What truly touched me was the ending. Even though the son tried to change his father's fate, the story didn’t take the easy route of suddenly making him able to speak. Instead, they kept him deaf and showed how he still became successful and loved. That message – that people with disabilities can be just as successful and happy – was powerful, emotional, and inspiring.
In short, “Twinkling Watermelon” is a feel-good, funny, emotional gem that stays with you long after it ends. A must-watch for every K-drama lover!

Twinkling Watermelon: 7/17/2025 ~ 7/18/2025
I finished this in the matter of two days because of how good it was. There were many moments where I was just pure laughing and smiling because of the relationships that take place. But there were also just as many moments where I was sobbing my eyes out because of things that happen. The two main couples were just perfect in every aspect of the word. They fit each other so well that it was like they were destined for each other. The main thing that makes this my favorite drama of all time was the ending, how it was not what you would expect. It was still a happy one but not in the way people would think which really got me to thinking on how we think as people, many would assume the father being able to hear would make them happy but that isn’t true. The Mother being able to have a happy home life and the father being able to realize he has a support system is what allowed them a better future, and I say better because they were still incredibly happy with there old one. It was something so sweet and really made me change the way I view things. Was this review helpful to you?
The most chaotic, fun and heartwarming K-drama I’ve watched so far
Twinkling Watermelon is probably the most chaotic, fun, and heartwarming K-drama I’ve watched so far. It had me laughing, crying, and feeling all warm inside.I honestly don’t know how they managed to pack so many themes into one drama—time travel, friendship, teenage dreams and music, the lives of deaf people, father–son bonds, father–daughter bonds, mother–daughter bonds, the connection between a grandmother and her children and grandchildren, first love, love at first sight, falling in love, never giving up—and yet it all blends seamlessly into one of the most touching stories I’ve seen in K-drama.
Ha Eun Gyeol’s journey to meet his father as a teenager is both unique and deeply moving. It beautifully shows that parents had dreams, insecurities, and struggles long before becoming Mom or Dad.
Ryeoun and Choi Hyun Wook’s chemistry brings this relationship to life—funny, heartfelt, and at times tear-jerking.
Through the time-travel twist, Eun Gyeol gets the rare chance to bridge the gap between generations, understanding his father’s dreams and struggles, and protecting him without changing who he’s meant to become. The drama gently reminds us that love between parents and children isn’t always easy to express, but understanding each other’s past can change everything.
It is so Fun , Warm, Bittersweet and Unforgettable.
No wonder this drama has such high ratings on MDL which I completely agree.

Masterpiece.
This will forever be one of my favourite kdramas ever. No matter how many times I rewatch it or what other kdramas come out, no other drama touches my heart as this one does. The relationship between Yichan and Eungyeol is one of the best relationships written, both Eungyeol's relationship with the younger and older version of Yichan. Most of the conflicts they have are very meaningful and relatable.
The way the characters care for each other, especially how Eungyeol cares for Yichan will always pull on my heart strings and make me cry every single episode. It was insane how much water I had to drink while binging this, not just for the first time watching it, even the second time around.
I liked how Eungyeol wasn't able to stop Yichan from losing his hearing, even tho that was his primary goal, but it gave the drama more meaning. No matter if you're disabled, you can still be happy and live your life to the fullest.
I also loved the family conflict happening and how Eungyeol thought that he had to be the voice of the family. His parents wanted to provide everything for him, but the misunderstandings and the lack of communication between a parent and their child, which is very natural, made them out to be bad parents.
This drama really made me think how grateful I am to have both of my parents by my side and that they too have probably had a difficult life raising me and caring for me. They've had a life before having me and they've gone through some stuff that I don't know about. It made me realise that I need to treat them better and apreciate them more.
It had a very deep and very significant message that made me love it even more. Overall the chemistry, the writing, the dialogues, and the way they're delivered by the actors, filled with emotions, are what makes this a masterpiece.

Mastepice iconic classic kdrama
I adore this kdrama. It is so fun and the music is so great Also, the plot is real and the acting is phenomenal. The Dad as a youngster is a riot LOL That actor is so good.
The son is so-so. But his guitar chops...
THE SCENE OF DAD AND SON FIRST TIME ON THE STAGE AND THE DAD LOOKING AT THE SON TO START - wow one of the most etched scenes ever for me, one of my favorite scenes - masterful level of detail
FL is realistic acting :) I enjoyed her.
But I primarily remember the young Dad being so flamboyant and singing so well although he had no experience . HE HAD LOVE AND PASSION AND DESIRE. His body language his dancing, his singing.... the sync between him and his son... the screaming crowd... the girl with the puckered lips... OMG so many details in one of the HOTTEST EVER SCENES

This kdrama made me believe in love again
Twinkling Watermelon genuinely made me believe in love again and I’m not even exaggerating. Him learning sign language just for her?? That is literally THE standard. Ryeoun absolutely ate this role — his acting was insane and his crying scenes felt so real it actually hurt to watch. The emotions, the chemistry, the nostalgia, everything hit perfectly. It’s one of those kdramas you can rewatch a million times and it still feels magical every single time. Such a comfort show, top tier, no skips, pure vibes and easily one of the best kdramas ever. Was this review helpful to you?
A masterpiece that blends youth, music, and heartfelt family bonds
Twinkling Watermelon (2023) Korean drama…It’s truly a masterpiece in its own time slot. Watching this coming-of-age drama with a touch of music was an exciting and emotional experience. It teaches the value of family, friendship, parenting and all .
ACTING AND CHARACTERS:
The cast was perfectly chosen, making the drama feel alive. The innocence and charm of each character were worth watching, and every role was carefully written with well-crafted stories. Ryeoun gave one of his best performances, perfectly capturing Eun Gyeol’s emotional growth and innocence. Choi Hyun Wook (well-known from Weak Hero Class 1) and Seol In Ah added even more depth and endless charm. My favorite was Shin Eun Soo — her breathtaking performance was full of emotion and surely captured every viewer’s attention. Not a single character was wasted each had depth and purpose.
MUSIC:
Since this is a music-centric drama, the OST deserves more recognition. The songs were not just meant to be heard, but to be felt. They carried emotions, elevated important key moments, and sometimes even told the story better than words could.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you enjoy heartwarming youth K-dramas blended with music and emotional twists.
For me, it’s a perfect 10/10, a drama I’ll always recommend
one you should watch at least once in your lifetime.
