Like many have said, it's a masterpiece
Incredible acting by the whole cast. The story was warm, heartfelt, beautifully written, and funny. I believe this is Bai Lu's best acting. Like another reviewer have said, characters in this show is multifaceted displaying the complexity of people and their thoughts and actions. I would say this one is probably the best written among the same genre. I think "The Story of Rose," is similar in feel as well as "Go ahead." Chemistry between Bai Lu and main lead is natural and magnetic; the way they look and talk to each other makes you want to swoon. This drama not have starting Romance scene but when Gave chance in last episodes ,,, Their Chemistry Give Very Strong CP Vibe , Finally you fall in love with this Couple ....

So beautiful and nostalgic slice of life drama!!
Initially I watched this drama because of some actors that I like and I haven't read the original novel yet. But, as a person who know much about (how to rate whether those are good/bad) movies, this is surprisingly amazing! Well, nothing's perfect. There are some problems that I found from this drama, like, the storyline pace is a bit messy, most of it feels so neat to be followed, but there are a very few parts that feel a bit too fast (hard to understand/feel unnatural) or too slow (a bit boring). Then, since (till I made this review) the drama will only have 1 season, we weren't told about the next fate of some supporting role characters, which will left us in curiosity. Also, there was a character who unfortunately didn't get a well-developed character. So, when he died, it still makes us sad but not so touched because the character didn't give a big impact for the story since then. But, those are only the small pieces of this 38 episodes-show, this drama has a way more positive things that we can get! Mainly, MORAL of the story! Yeah, this drama tells about the story of children who grew up together, becoming adults, encounter the problems of life.But, those are only the small pieces of this 38 episodes-show, this drama has a way more positive things that we can get! Always respect our parents! We have to learn how to be wise, knowing when to become aggresive and when to become gentle! And so much more!
Actors' acting? Amazing! Cinematography? Great! Plot twists? Pretty decent (Some are surprising and easy to guess). Soundtracks? Impressive (and quite memorable)! Comedy? Entertaining!

underrated masterpiece
i am amazed by the beauty of this show. the way it was filmed, the beauty of the places shown, the beautiful dishes made, the songs, the families, the cries, the laughs.... I LOVE ALL OF ITeverything about this show was so realistically done.
the characters were just perfect, i couldn't help but love and understand every single one of them, i cried with them, i laughed with them, i loved with them.
now that i'm done watching this show i can't help but feel sad because this show just did such an amazing job potraying these characters' entire lives, that i too have now become a lifetime resident of hua street.
one of the BEST modern cdramas.

Great show with some flaws
Northward tells the story of a group of neighbors who live by the canal. Previously productive due to shipping, the canal workers face the harsh reality of changing times and their way of life as the country grows and modernizes.The main characters are a group of friends (3 boys and 2 girls) and their parents or grandparents.
The series follows the maturation and changes of all these characters, including the place where they live. I particularly like this type of series, realistic and mature slice of life. But that doesn't mean there aren't any problems that caused its rating to be reduced.
First, there is a noticeable problem with the narrative pace at several points in the series, from the excessive length of the phase when they are in high school to the endless scenes of them as adults in the workplace. It's like, okay, I get that life is hard and you have to work a lot, but I don't need to watch several episodes about billing, Excel tables and graphs about delivery apps.
The program's strong point is the effect that this type of environment has on the characters' relationships and personalities, and not watching countless discussions about something that we don't care about witnessing.
Just show us how Wang He became even more obsessed with money and everything will be fine (for us, not for him).
There comes a point in the series when the most interesting people are the supporting characters, like Xing Chi who tries to get his life together after a bad decision in the past, and Hai Kuo, who in contrast to Wang He, wants to live a quieter life and less tied to the corporate world and its endless workload. I won't even get into the "terminal illness" phase, because it's so overused that it only made me shake my head when that part started.
Another strong point is the maintenance of the core of the parents and grandfather with Alzheimer's (done with unparalleled delicacy). I wish there had been even more of them, instead of evil schemes by jealous directors in delivery companies.
Great show, great soundtrack and great representation of leaving home with the ambition to conquer the world and the consequent maturity that this brings.

very touching and relive our teenage years of the same period.
the story started slow but it becomes really good after they started to go to Beijing.the story revolves around the grand canal and it was given a unesco status. hence there is some good history to it.
The FL is also one of the best actress and she did really well

Superb amazing chinese drama
At first i have no expectations, i thought it just ordinary drama , i decide to watch it because its high star but I dare myself to say that this drama series is a must watch before we die! A real work of art!
I am so glad I found this drama! It was a true pleasure to watch. Everything about it was just spot on. Its so beautiful and leaves a warmth in your heart after its finished. Everything about it was just spot on; from the story, the acting, the filming, the music. It really raised the bar for Cdramas for me. I only wish it could go on forever but everything about it was so great I really cant complain. I hope I get to watch more dramas like this one in the future. Wonderful characters, beautifully acted
I really enjoyed this drama. The acting is phenominal from the children to the senior and more experienced actors. I had not seen Ou Hao before. He has so much screen presence and energy, he stole the show for me, though as i said, the others are also incredibly good.The story line is interesting, a few parts are a bit dragging, but when it reverts to interpersonal relationship it always delivers and is heartbreaking and heartwarming.
I also loved the romance aspect. It did not distract from the slice of life part and the first romantic scene is so well written and acted. Very simple, yet so emotive. A very natural progression from friends to lovers.

Simply a Masterpiece.
There is rarely a drama like Northward that comes out once in a while and totally steals your heart. Northward may or may not have been similar to its predecessors but it's a gem of a drama on its own. Never have I seen a drama so well-written, acted and executed so well that it sucks me in and makes me smile and cry as each moment passes by. The family of the drama is one whole consisting of so many unique people. There are moments they are good and moments where they behave terribly and yet, they remind us of how they are also human. These people define a family- being together through the good times and bad and cherishing each other no matter what. I happen to be a person glad to be living in the current generation but this drama made me wanna go back to the 90's. The romance may not be the main part in the previous two installments but this drama overall outdoes everything on every level for me (opinions may differ for all).
