Another drama that it was ruined by romance...

Honestly I really liked it at first but after one point it became annoying...

We all have our most & our least favourite characters in a drama here's ny list for this drama:
MFC: Ni Tian Er Xing & Zi Yu
LFC: Bai Cai & Xin Yue Kui

Ni Tian Er Xing & Zi Yu they both were amazing characters and the actors did an excellent job playing them!!
For me these two were the only characters that they deserved to get everything that they wanted but it didn't happen. I was happy for Zi Yu at the end that he lived and watched Wu Geng defeating Hei Long and gaining the freedom for all three realms but in the process he lost the rest of his family and ppl he loved and became a lonely soul. He definitely deserved more happiness.
As for Ni Tiang Er Xing he was an amazing character! A great and caring leader and also a great and loyal friend that deserved to get everything and be happy but instead the twisted writers had him die.

Xin Yue Kui was such a twisted character!
For her greed for power and apparently because of her crush on Hei Long was willing to kill everyone even her own family!
I found the fact that she was killed by Hei Long very entertaining but I definitely wanted her to suffer alot more than she did!

I also liked Hei Long's character because he was really powerful. If he had a good heart he could have been a great leader for the Immortals.

Wu Geng was a good character, but I was disappointed. Although he was strong enough to kill Hei Long at the end all that power wasn't really his, it was borrowed or given to him and without Er Xing's help, giving him his own remaining power after he had died, he would have been dead too. The thing about him was that he had a very strong will power, that's why he managed to cultivate the Qi energy that Zi Yu gave him so fast and became stronger and also managed to activate the colourless realm devine power.
He was also a very good leader and he even managed to bring together the three realms and bring peace amongst them. He is definitely could've been a great leader for the three realms but in the end he gave it all up for nothing, just because he wanted to go find that idiotic and good for nothing Bai Cai.
I still don't understand why she got to live again and not all those other great characters that died. She was so fricking annoying and weak from the beginning till the end. Such an unnecessary and good for nothing character. The only thing ahe did throughout the entire drama was to say "A Gou" like an idiot, and annoy us.
I liked her more when she was evil.
Without her character this drama could've been a 9 or 9,5 easily.
Also she didn't have any chemistry with Wu Geng.
In my opinion, this drama didn't need the romance. It would've worked better as a Friendship and Bromance drama.
If the writers wanted Romance they could have had Wu Geng end up with A Lan or Bei Er, since the ML had way more chemistry with them. But no, yet again, those twisted writers hed them both killed like Er Xing.
Those great ppl that deserved to live and be happy remaind dead and that annoying Bai Cai was brought back from the dead. I'll never forgive the writers for that.
The only good thing that they did (for me) was that they made Shi Xing and Xuan Feng Sage King, good characters. I really like these two actors so it was kinda impossible and difficult for me to see them as evil characters and hate them. I was grateful when they both turned good and didn't remain in the evil side.

The real comic story much more interesting

The real plot of the story actually quite nice. It's just the movie talk too much, and getting more & more nonsense talk. Example, everyone before die keep asking wugeng to promise abc, and wugeng promised alot things already to many people. Rather than talking about the war situation/warning, before die they rather talk nonsense, like how long i have loved you, promise me this and that, etc. And the talk DAMN LONG. Finished talk, he/she suddenly died, fanished. 🙄
The drama getting too much & make it lame story.
The comic can show how wugeng get his power and his sacrifies, but in the movie..... he just brave, friendly and lucky. The wars, wugeng doesnt look like doing alot, only abit here & there.
Too bad, it can be much better.

Not happy with the conclusion

After investing 40 episodes into the drama, the ending was far from satisfying. It began on a promising note, with the portrayal of a king on one side and an innocent boy on the other, two personas seemingly distinct but inherently connected. However, as the story unfolded, the middle portion dragged on for 25 episodes, leaving much to be desired. Amidst the monotony, there were occasional glimpses of brilliance, but as the conclusion approached, hopes for a happy ending were dashed. Instead, the drama concluded with a disappointing finale, leaving viewers with an open-ended conclusion and the burden of imagining their own resolution.

Weird Xianxia Universe

So in this BF universe, there are Immortal Realm, Mortal Realm and Demon Realm. There is no God or way of heaven like the usual xianxia because in this universe, instead of being the one maintaining order of the three realms, the Immortal Realm became the evil one with no one to constrain them, the demon realm is actually the good ones, theyre the original immortals who lost the immortal war back 100,000 years ago and were forced to live underground by King of Immortal. And the mortal realm is in chaos with people being enslaved to do the immortals bidding.

ML is Wu Geng, a prince of the Xin kingdom in the mortal realm. His father is King of Xin, and the story opened up to him declaring war with the immortals and fight for freedom for the mortal realm. He was very strong and gifted and he was beating the immortal army to pulp, which forced the Immortal King out of his seclusion to fight him head on. You see it was supposed to be a big deal if u can get the king of immortal to come down to the mortal world as in a sense his henchmen should be fighting it off first. So you should get an idea how powerful King of Xin was. Although King of Xin had forged a bond with the Undying bird, an ancient divine spirit, it was still not enough so of course the Immortal King won and King Xin died. Empress of Xin brought ML to the palace tower for their last stand but in the end decided to kill both his son and herself when the immortal high priestess Xinyue Kui arrived to the tower.

Wu Geng, however, had his soul transported into A Gou, a dumb orphan of Xin Kingdom. Apparently, A Gou was a wisp of Wu Geng’s primordial spirit which the Empress had casted upon his birth into the mortal world as backup for this event that she foresaw coming. The Empress, whose name was Xinyue Hu sister of current immortal high priestess, was actually a priest of the immortal realm before she defected to the mortal realm when she fell in love with Wu Geng’s father. And so began Wu Geng’s new life as A Gou where he lived in a hut with FL - Bai Cai, and 4 other ophaned kids.

After the fall of Xin Kingdom, Bai Kingdom took over as they were in cahoots with the immortals. Under the Bai Kingdom reign, all able bodied adults are enslaved into mining bloodstones for the immortals. Bai Cai and A Gou were taken to Northern Mountain mine and stayed there for a few years before A Gou led an escape and start his journey of leading the league of anti-immortal army across the three realms. The objective was to defeat King of Immortal Realm - Hei Long, and set those who had been oppressed by the Immortal realm free of slavery and oppression.

The concept on this show took some time to sink in. Instead of the immortals usually being the ones sacrificing themselves to maintain order of three realms, they became the source of chaos instead. There was no entity that can keep them in check and the world was left in chaos for more than 100,000 years since Hei Long won the Immortal war. The demon realm was the remnants of the immortals who lost the immortal war and most of them were good, and the immortal realm was actually filled with new immortals that Hei Long had created to do his bidding, so most were evil and brutal.

The CGI was truly horrible for a 2024 production, and how they introduce skills used by the experts were so comical - with big caption of the name of the skill running across the screen. It reminds me of those shows back in the 90s.

I first saw Ren Jia Lun in The Blue Whisper, so thought this show hadnt exploited his talents to the max as they did with TBW. His character here is too one way street. Even as a prince he was still upright, although quite arrogant and brash, but the good trait was still similar to what he carried on as A Gou. This prince only lasted for 2 episodes so there’s not much depth of his character as Prince Wu Geng of the reigning Xin Kingdom.

The FL, Bai Cai, is one hell of an annoying character. So clingy always calling my a gou here my a gou there. The only thing she’s good for was for her healing ability. And I also don’t get the ancient divine soul thing. How come she becomes evil once this soul is awakened? It’s weird cuz divine power shouldve been good and just cuz theyre supposed to be the thing that keeps the world in order but here, everything that relates to immortality and divinity seem to be bad and evil. The universe here was so weird.

I truly pity Xinyue Kui. She was supposed to be the closest one to King of Immortal, the supreme high priestess that governs the three realms on his behalf, but she always gets her butt kicked all over by mortals, immortals and demons alike 😂😂 whats even more pathetic was that all the evil things she did to protect the reign of King of Immortal was due to her crush on him only to find out that all the things that the king did for the past 100,000 years was because to revive his loved one 😂 Gosh that is so lame.

2nd FL, A Lan is an immortal from Shenyin clan that turned their back upon King of Immortal’s reign after the war. She tries hard to fulfill the high priest of shen yin clan’s last wish that is to protect Wu Geng at all cost. The shen yin high Priest is Wu Geng’s grandfather, and father of Xinyue Kui and Xinyue Hu. He was the immortal clan’s high priest before being toppled out of his position by his own eldest daughter. I first saw Zhu Xu Dan in Fateful Love and i see her performance here hasnt improved at all. Still beautiful and yet still as wooden as ever.😂

The good thing about this show is that there was no love tug of war between the 3 women who fell in love with ML. A Lan knew ML and FL was in love with each other and she maintained her distance as a friend to both instead. The third love interest was not even worth to mention because she was like a teenage kid who just had a crush for the first time. She also got killed off quite quickly after being introduced (within a few episodes). so because everyone acts amicably, there was no tricks and jealousy drama to win ML’s heart between the women. FL also fully put her trust on ML and never wavered come what may.

The battle scenes are horrendous and hard to watch, both the first battle with Xin King and the final battle on immortal island. The CGI was bad in the first, and the manpower was laughable in the final. It’s like they came to wage war in the immortal island with less than 50 footsoldiers. 😂 gosh what a joke. Really tell you theyre on a super tight budget.

For me personally, i think Burning Flames belong to the same category as Ancient Love Poetry, the category where I had been duped by the reviews to think that theyre good. 😂 but yeah at least Burning Flame had a good enough plot to keep me watching to the end compared to ALP which i dropped after 5 torturous episodes.

SPOILER BEYOND THIS LINE…….

.
.
.
.
.

In this show, the ML’s skills are vastly acquired by other people giving him their cultivation years or skill. I dont know, i still think as a half immortal, ML is still too dang weak to take on the king of immortal who had reigned for 100,000 years. Even at the final battle i didnt think it’s logical even in xianxia terms. All the skills and strength he acquired was from people of the recent 2-3 generations, except for the remnant power from Sea spirit ancestor who of course was much weaker even at his prime compared King of Immortal - thats why the sea spirit ancestor ended up dead in tue immortal war.

There was no special skill from ancient people at all. Then how come he was able to win against an entity who had cultivated since over 100,000 years ago? How come he won just by using Nitian Erxing’s last breath? Nitian Erxing isnt ancient. He’s of the same generation with ML even. Although he’s the grand marshall of the demon realm and the descendant of ancient immortal, he’s a far cry from a notable ancient figure compared to king of immortal. I would understand if the ML came across really ancient power while he was gaining his skill and strength to fight King of Immortal. I could even understand if he was granted a power by a supreme being after he got pummelled to death by King of Immortal. I could also understand if somehow all the sages came together and supported him at the last minute so they somehow won over the king, but really none of that happened. So the result of the final battle is baffling to me.

I’m puzzled at the last episode too. FL is just a mere mortal, so how come she gets to be revived back after she was killed compared to other demons and immortals with higher cultivation than hers? For example A Lan. It’s puzzling even in xianxia concept of rebirth and reincarnation.

Seeks Epicness But Fails

What can I say about Burning Flames, or as I like to call it, "Where is Hei Long?"

Things I like about this drama are that the main storyline and concept are interesting (seeking freedom and independence from the immortals). This central theme is complemented by good elements of adventure and fantasy. Additionally, some of the fight scenes were impressive but not as thrilling as they should have been. Moreover, I enjoyed the bond between our ML and 1st FL; it was sweet. I also liked the other friendships and bonds formed as the story materialized.

What I did not like about this drama was that the villains are overpowered, smarter, and utterly annoying (PERSONAL OPINION, LOL). They are not even the "Main Bad Guy" of this show, which is Hei Long, but he is missing throughout the show. Meanwhile, our protagonists are weak and incompetent until the plot requires them to be wise, which feels unearned and cheap. Next, the undeveloped characters and how the writers tried to make a simple plot seem more complex and convoluted than it actually is. There are so many useless characters and filter scenes. These writers introduced new characters after episode 30 because the plot needed them. At one point, I questioned who a character was because I felt like I was being gaslit to remember him from "The Mining Arc," the BEST arc and my favorite in this show.

This show constantly introduces new characters and leaves them undeveloped, disrupting the narrative flow and making it difficult to connect with them. The writer trying to make the plot more intricate than it actually is ultimately detracted from the overall enjoyment of the series. I felt like I was enjoying the show from episode one to the end of "The Mining Arc." After that arc, I lost that interest until about episodes 26-29. Then they lost me after that, and I felt like I was forcing myself to finish this show. Do not get me started on the last five episodes, which try to get some emotional resonance but fail because, as a viewer, I could not connect to most of these characters; thus, the emotional appeal failed. Overall, it could have been EPIC and captivated its audience with fewer characters, fewer episodes, better pacing, and developed characters.

Bai Cai is the most annoying character I've ever watched.

Overall the story was ok. I've been a fan of Ren Jia Lun since Glory of the Tang Dynasty and I have to say, he really had no chemistry with the female lead at all.

Some may say that this drama is not romance, the problem is because there's no chemistry between the two leads that I felt some of the things Wu Geng did and said feels off. For example, he was desperately trying to save her but I can't understand why, I don't see the love being so deep. I thought Hei Long and Bai Long had very minimal screentime but they really stood out to me. The way they look at each other, I can see that Bai Long meant the world to Hei Long.

Bai Cai was always on the floor screaming "A Gou" "A Gou" but the next moment she's ok running away from danger. I'm not exaggerating when I say this, more than 50% of her script was "A Gou".

For viewers who are ok with a weak female lead and not expecting any chemistry between the two leads, it would be a good watch.

so messy but quite interesting storyline

there’s so many things I wish to say about this show. mostly aren’t good ones.

good points:
- interesting storyline
- Liu Yuning song

heard that it’s based on donghua. the assemble is good and interesting.

bad points:
- cringey
there are some parts are so cringe, e.g. the father & son scenes, some scenes supposed to be serious but it’s just cringe.
- Wu Geng
yes, the main character himself. he’s one of the main reason why I’m just frustrated. his character buildup is lacking and he doesn’t seem to have his own power? after losing his colorless realm, it seems he’s relying on others to give him power. that’s why the end when he’s the mortal god of war, it’s just a disappointing moment.
- RJL’s line delivery
honestly, this is my first drama from him. and his line delivery is really poor. be it angry or frustrated, his tone is the same. and it’s his own voice (have watched F&E, now I know how he sounds like)
- Bai Cai
honestly, she’s redundant. period. had enough with her A gou.
- RJL hairstyle
why why why?
- underutilising Hei Long
dude is such a hottie, and his presence giving me Voldemort-ish. why he only appear at the start and the end? such a waste!

characters that stood out:
- Shi Xing
- Xinyue Kui
- Zha Zha and his father (their scenes were just lol)

The Best Chinese Science Fiction Better than the Ice Fantasy

This is the best every of all Chinese drama. The producer put lots of money into customer, make up of aliens / monsters, as you would see in the US Star Trek / Star Wars. Well done!

Story could be stronger. The first 4 (2-6) episodes wasting time in the prison camps that can be cut short.

Love this drama

Honestly, I don't like hairstyle and costumes but since the plot is very interesting so I don't care that shit..

I love the way Wu geng & Bai cai treat the other. Their love is so pour. No need kiss scene but I can feel deep love.

Wu geng is getting stronger. Hope he can beat Black dragon.

It's A Good Drama. Give it a Chance.

I've currently watched 10 episodes and to me it is a worth drama to watch. The story is well written and the acting is very good. Though others might not like the CGI used in the drama, but to me I loved the CGI because I am starting to get bored with those floating around in dramas.
Anyway am not commanding anyone to watch it. I just think you should not just read the reviews and comments give it a chance watch at least 6 episodes and see if it's to your liking and make your own judgement. Otherwise you might just miss out on a good drama😉

OK drama but exhausting to watch at times

Caught this drama on iQIYI recently and actually watched most of the 40 episodes, although I did start fast forwarding through episodes when I reached episode 30 or so. Just felt that this drama started to drag on too much and it probably could have been cut down to 35-36 episodes

The sets and CGI on this drama were good, and you could tell they spent some money on the production. The story was good although it was a bit predictable insofar as how it was going to end. Liked the actors, didn't really feel anyone annoyed me but also didn't feel that anyone was great in this either.

Felt like this drama started to drag as it was nearing the final stretch of episodes. The fight scenes got tiresome to watch after a while. Once you knew a big battle was going to start, it was a good time to just fast forward to the end of the fight to save time. After you watch a few CGI fight scenes they start to become repetitive. Some of these C-dramas like to fill up screen time with song interludes and flashback scenes and this one was no different. The song interludes, sometimes 3 or 4 in a single episode, were also good opportunities to fast forward to save time.

Overall drama was average, not terrible but not great either. Have no interest in watching any part of this drama again so rewatch value is a well-deserved 1.0.
