BEST BL OF 2021! HANDS DOWN
I never write reviews for any tv show or series but after I watched We Best Love, I needed to tell the world how incredible this show is! You will not regret watching this as it will tug at your heartstrings and you will never want to stop watching this over and over again. The lead couple played by Sam & YU are the highlight of this series, their chemistry is unmatched and unlike any other BL couple I have ever seen. The romance is believable, immensely adorable and so heartwarming. Also, might I add, the kisses are beyond realistic and passionate! I have not seen an on screen couple kiss like they do, and it will give you all the feels. Yes, the show uses a much used background of "enemies" to lovers in university but the pace is brilliant, the direction is impressive and the characters are so lovable, you will be fans by the end of it. The side couples are also worth sticking around for. I would highly recommend this show.Was this review helpful to you?

Cute leads, good chemistry and one-sided pining done right
A guilty pleasure drama that's sweet and short, with tropey main leads that could've easily been cringe but instead came off natural, and one-sided pining done right. One is chaotic evil, overly cute and charming but painfully unaware, and the other is the sweet, hopeless romantic who's been silently pining for him for most of their lives.Overall very fun and cute! The ending is wtf so I'm going to have to watch the 2nd season now for some closure even though I wasn't planning to, but okay whatever. I'm glad to see more of Gao Shi De lol.

Best BL of the Year! Don't read the spoilers or reviews and just go watch it!
This is the perfect BL. It encompasses everything that is BL. Season 1 has the whole student/university innocent love story while Season 2 has the adult angsty drama. It's the whole package.(Some notes about the Special Edition Ver. for Season 1 at the bottom.)
Anyways, I'll focus on Season 1 now.
Story:
Gao Shi De has always been a thorn in Zhou Shu Yi's side. He's always excelled in everything and should have been number 1 in everything, if it wasn't for Gao Shi De. When Zhou Shu Yi got into college, he thought that was in end of it. Gao Shi De went to a different university so everything should have been good, but now Gao Shi De has transferred to his university. His life is a mess again. His female friend that Zhou Shu Yi has been crushing on is in love with his best friend and now he has to deal with Gao Shi De. It doesn't help that Gao Shi De saw through his pathetic crush and is trying to help him get over it. Zhou Shu Yi's supposed to hate Gao Shi De right?
This is an amazing story. Enemies to Lovers is not anything new in BL or in Romance, but what is new is that Zhou Shu Yi is half-Japanese and it incorporated it into the story. Zhou Shu Yi often uses Japanese phrases to express himself when he's talking to himself or doesn't want to be understood. His friends also accept that and use Japanese phrases too. It's really realistic to someone who is mutli-ethnic. (I'm half-Japanese, and I also use Japanese phrases when talking to myself or when I don't want to be understood. Sometimes there are words in Japanese that express things better than in English too.) I love how Gao Shi De nor any of this friends address the fact that he's half-Japanese and just accept it. In a usual story the fact that Zhou Shu Yi's half-Japanese would be high-lighted and constantly brought up. There is none of that in this story.
Another thing that's different from the norm is that Gao Shi De isn't seeking to be Zhou Shu Yi's boyfriend. He literally just wants to be friends. Yes, he's in love with Zhou Shu Yi, but he spent so long being hated by him that he just wants to be friends and be able to talk to Zhou Shu Yi normally. It was so heartbreaking when Zhou Shu Yi found out about his crush, yet instead of saying "Yes, I'm in love with you. Please date me." He literally told Zhou Shu Yi, "It's none of your business." He was pushing his feelings to the side because he thought Zhou Shu Yi wouldn't accept his love and he didn't want to break their friendship. Such a selfless love!
Acting:
The chemistry between Gao Shi De and Zhou Shu Yi is amazing. Gao Shi De doesn't even have to speak and we can already see what he's thinking and feeling. Gao Shi De might be stoic, but just look into his eyes and you feel every emotion. Such talent! Zhou Shu Yi has significantly a lot more lines than Gao Shi De, but that doesn't mean he can't express himself either. Zhou Shu Yi is more in touch with his emotions and let's them out. He physically shows all of his emotions be it happiness, anger, or pain. Zhou Shu Yi also has the best teary-eye/emotional scenes in the whole BL industry. I can barely name any actors that can compare with him when is comes to scenes that are so emotional they make you tear up. Anyone can cry when they're sad, but to be so emotional that you have tears forming in your eyes, and you don't know why you're crying? Zhou Shu Yi's actor is amazing.
This BL is so amazing that there really isn't much to criticize. If there is any criticism it would be Zhou Shu Yi's Chinese language skills. I don't speak Chinese, so I can't say too much. That being said, since he is acting right next to other Chinese speaking actors, even I can hear it sometimes. Again, I don't speak Chinese, so it doesn't bother me, but I can understand why it would bother some people. However, I can chalk it up to Zhou Shu Yi being half-Chinese, half-Japanese. Realistically though, if Zhou Shu Yi was born and raised in Taiwan his Chinese would be better than Japanese. But seeing as in Season 2 his dad speaks better Japanese than Chinese, I guess the apple didn't fall too far from the tree. Everything can be explained nicely though the storyline, so it works out for me. I do feel bad that the fans are knit-picking at Zhou Shu Yi's actor's Chinese skills (even to the actor's himself) when he was born and raised in Japan, so obviously his Japanese is better than Chinese. If you want to start knit-picking at language, aside from Zhou Shu Yi's actor, when the Chinese actors speak Japanese they have terrible pronunciation. It doesn't bother me though, since they are Chinese and not fluent in Japanese. You can't have everything perfect in life you know. Can all of you criticizing him even speak two languages fluently with perfect pronunciation for both languages? I think most of you can't, so I think it's time we all just sweep this topic under the rug.
Overall:
We Best Love is amazing. One of the best BLs out there. If you haven't watched it, you should.
~~~~~~~~~~ We Best Love: No 1 Special Edition ~~~~~~~~~~
What's the difference?
Bing Wei and Zhe Yu's confrontation scene in the locker room is extended. This is probably the most important scene since they are a featured side couple in the 2nd season. Other than that not much. Just a few scenes other extended, but not important. For example, instead of a short hug or kiss, they just show a few extra seconds of it. I'm not going to name all of them since it does nothing for the story. Season 2 is where the Special Edition is important.
Should you watch the Special Edition first or watch it on the re-watch?
I would just watch the Special Editions. But if you want to watch the normal version and Special Editions then... How do I put this... Watch both normal versions of Season 1 and Season 2 then watch the Special Editions on the rewatch.
YES - Special Edition S1 → Special Edition S2 (Skipping the Normal version is okay)
YES - Normal Ver. S1 → Normal Ver. S2 → Special Edition S1 → Special Edition S2
NO - Normal Ver. S1 → Special Edition S1 → Normal Ver. S2 → Special Edition S2
(You won't understand why they extended some scenes)
NO - Special Edition S1 → Special Edition S2 → Normal Ver. S1 → Normal Ver. S2
(The rewatch will be boring. Especially Season 2's rewatch. You'll probably claim that you wasted your time watching the normal version since you watched it the Special Editions first.)
One of my favorite ennemies to lovers
(English is not my first language so please excuse any mistakes)I've watched this one year ago and I decided to watch it again so I could write a review on MDL. Well my vision of this BL didn't change. It is still one of my favorite ennemies to lovers.
It wasn't a format as long a Thaï BL which last around 1h/episode so I was afraid, with only six episodes of 30 minutes, I would be frustrated, and the story not well developed. But I was extremely surprised, in a good way, how well the story was told, and how natural it seemed for me to perceive how Shu Yi fell for Gao de. When watching BL I often question the plot, the directing, and the actors because it seems that one of the protagonist suddenly fell in love with the other and we don't understand why. However it is not the case here, we can clearly see Shi Yi fall for Gao de.
Acting is not perfect ofc but it's definitely very good and nice to watch.
I'd like to mention one thing which I kinda disliked : the scene on the bridge, when Shi Yi confess his love, Gao De tell him : "I thought you didn't like boys". And SY answers this "only because it's you".
Which means that Shi Yi "is not gay he has just fallen for a man".
Ofc, you can fall in love and don't care about the gender, but I don't like how in some BL drama the "straight guy" is still straight and just fall for a man because that's life who wanted this to happen. Just my personal opinion but I'd like to know what others think about that "issue".
Apart this little thing I totally recommend it! Now I'm gonna rewatch season 2 to post my review on MDL!
Rewatching it!
I already watched this BL drama "We Best Love" 2 weeks ago but I love it so much and wanna rewatch it again already. In the first season, I thought it was so pure and beautiful!! the romance between the main leads is so cute!! In the second season, the romance went from cute to ultimate hotness!! Very mature and classy, loved it!! I'll be honest the second couple is kind of unnecessary.I still cannot get over this drama along with "I told Sunset About You," both left a huge impact on me.
What a coincidence, just realized both dramas are "rivals to lovers' which is my favorite trope!
Acting, cinematography, osts are the best!!
I never write any review before, but for this masterpiece I just have to!! First of all, the storyline is not complicated but this is the interesting part. Because the storyline is the common one, it's gonna be difficult to get many viewers but this series made it! How can? Then we go to the second reason, acting!! Both main leads' acting are way too good. The chemistry they have, the way they potray their roles so we can fall deeper into the characters and feel like we are them. We can feel what they feel. Next one is the soundtracks. All of them are masterpiece!! Have been playing all the ost repeatedly. The ost makes the scenes more interesting.Okay that's all.
I don't know if this review can make you watch WBL or not, but please try to watch it if you haven't, I promise it won't dissapoint you >.<
I love it so far
This drama is not complete, but its already my favourite BL drama. I am going to watch it many times again.The chemistry between the actors are so good, they make such a cute couple. I really am looking forward to the second season.
The music just completes the series for me. It matches so well.
The plot is really interesting, both characters pull it of very well. I am absolutely in love with this BL its been a while since I enjoyed a series like this.
I only wish that the episodes were longer, I really want to see more heart fluttering moments of the leads.
Traditional BL Storyline with a healthy modern feel
If you're no stranger to BL content this won't disappoint, it has all the elements we look for to make our hearts skip a beat. For the past couple of years a struggle between the BL genre that came from Japan and the LGBTQ tag were at odds because the community felt it wasn't realistic. Although, no matter how realistic a story is in media, its still media bias and entertainment. Nowadays the spectrum has better developed itself so BL like this one- stays in its BL genre but also gives room for more modern demands like allowing characters to be gay without saying "I don't like just anyone, I will only like that guy if it's him." So if you want a BL drama that follows that path, this is the one for you. if you want a little more reality check out "I told sunset about you." Bottom line, this is must watch for BL lovers, but I'm sure you OG's out there will have already clicked on the show ;)Was this review helpful to you?
Fabulous
I know there are better and more qualitative BLs out there, I know , yet for me this is the best . I love every single thing about it, from acting to music and to how absolutely gorgeous that little tsundere is. I’m aware that 10 out of 10 it’s not an objective rating but see if I care. I. LOVED. IT.Was this review helpful to you?
Totally get the hype. It's just soo good
Despite being an old BL this one is really good. I loved the story, the plot, the cast, the acting. Literally everything about this drama was soo good. The unrequited love, the yearning everything was totally on point. I loved the clueless x cunning troupe🤭🤭 poor shu yi never got to know shi de staged the entire locked in the infirmary just so he'd get to stay with him.Yes the drama is not perfect cz why the hell are they randomly talking in Japanese? Also what about Shi De's dad they did hint that he was told his son in gay but they stopped right there? Also what about the doc's love story? And just curious how did the 2nd couple fall in love.. well there's a season 2 so I'm hoping for answers. This is the 1st time a season 1 has left us wity questions for season 2 instead of giving us a clear happy ending. So I'll give it a 9.5.
One of my favourites
After watching so many BLs with zero chemistry and actors who look like they want to run away from the set, finally We Best Love came and saved me. It really broke the streak and honestly went straight onto my list of all-time favorites.Even before I passed the first 10 minutes, I already knew I would like it. Rivals to lovers is my absolute weakness. Every time I eat it up like crazy. And wow, the chemistry between Shou Yi and Shi De… maybe the best I’ve ever seen. Their acting made me forget this was even a drama. Usually when actors are stiff, I start thinking things like, “Ah, how embarrassing must it have been to film this scene?” But here I was just fully inside the story, like I was watching real life. And thank god, no dead-fish kisses! They kissed like people who were really in love, which is unfortunately so rare in bls. That alone made me so happy I wanted to clap.
I loved both of them so much, but honestly, Sam Lin stole my heart. He was shining the whole time. Please, someone cast him again as a BL main lead. He is too handsome, it actually hurts. T_T
I can’t even nitpick.. I tried to think of something negative to balance my review, but nothing comes. My mind is empty. We Best Love is just amazing, that’s it!
