K-Drama
I will admit, though, the negative critiques aren't completely without merit. As someone who always pays close attention to plot execution, I have to say the pacing in the first act is a massive struggle. It takes forever to actually get to the point, and the beginning is just incredibly bloated and drawn out. With a runtime stretching over two and a half hours, I literally had enough time to get up, go to the bathroom, and grab a drink refill without feeling like I was missing anything crucial because the buildup was just so agonizingly slow!
But once the narrative finally finds its footing? Wow. It turns into such a genuinely refreshing and rewarding cinematic experience. I am honestly just so thrilled that I got to see two different Korean movies in theaters this month, and both of them completely delivered!

Repetitive and slow, despite constant action
After the movie ended, the guy next to me turned to his friends and told them that he fell asleep during a chase scene. When he woke up 20 minutes later, the chase was still going on.And that really is the biggest issue with this movie — it's just a string of action sequences that go on forever AND do the exact same thing over and over again. There are so many chase sequences and gun fights, but I never feel any actual tension during them. It's partly because the characters are all really flat and there's no emotional arc attached to any of them, and partly because there's just so much plot armor. I usually don't mind plot armor for our heroes, but it's not used in any meaningful way to move the story forward; everyone just gets up and continues to do the same running around for 5, 10, or 15 more minutes.
In the final act we're randomly given insight into the antagonists' perspective, and it felt extremely random and unnecessary. The CGI was highly questionable, which ruined my immersion in the story every time there was a close-up, but more importantly, there was no build-up to the characters or the lore. The ending feels really abrupt.
The humor didn't land for me either. There's one car scene that's pretty funny, but other than that I found the constant yelling and swearing really grating and annoying. That one poo joke goes on for way too long.
Maybe it's my fault for expecting something with more emotional substance, but this really was just an action flick, and everything about it — the plot, the antagonists, the humor, the CGI — feels very 2010s (derogatory).

here's the main reason Aliens r gonna skip our planet, or why they should avoid us at all costs...
well idk if ima be the odd one out, as i didn't read all the comments, but this wasn't as entertaining for me & midway this just turned sad... then depressing.for starters; i have to make it clear that i ALWAYS root for the Monster, as usually - Every time (!) the humans prove to be much worse then any monster could be & the humans in this movies, didn't change my mind about this fact.
at the start - so much was going on i was on for the ride, just enjoying the chaos, as i wasn't really connected to anyone, so wasn't that shocked or moved by any of the deaths, sad as they were - was more curious as to why the monster was on a rampage - but the sec (ironically) Seong Ae showed up on screen & the time it took to "take out" the female monster, broke my heart - i wish it was easier to take her down, cause what we got was brutality for brutalities sake & i felt sad even before we saw her tears, while being chased to death by Beom Seok & Seong Ae.
& after we find out, why she was bulldozing her way through anything & anyone in that town, i was disinterested in anything (justification) the humans did - cause there was zero justification & Beom Seok getting angry at Yang Bae didn't move me much, as the dude was a bumbling idiot from start to finish. it was painful & infuriating watching him in action, at the start he was a bad-joke, that ceased to be funny.
also found it beyond ironic, the lengths Beom Seok was ready to go too for Seong Gi, but it never registered in that pea brain of his, how the monsters might feel about the loss of their loved ones?!? guess their lives don't matter?!? & neither does their pain??? that's why i laughed out loud & rejoiced when Seong Gi got taken out - now that was karma IMO.
i guess the ending means the Aliens had no other choice then to land on earth - they chose a hell of a planet to land on... where the humans rather shoot/kill first & talk later. they so terrified of anything strange, they rather eliminate the threat - before assessing it. justified? not? idk - what i know is that in-spite of how tough the Aliens seemed, they wont survive on earth & if the 2nd movie is basically them getting annihilated by some trigger happy humans - i think i will pass. this was depressing enough for a one off thanks

It took them 10 years to produce this movie and another 10 years we have to wait for the sequel.
Overall the movie was good and also It was good to watch it hahah. As someone who likes sci fi, action and comedy this one is okay and good but it could be better.
The creature was shown in the middle of the movie and bro the characters are just running here and there and the casting is good but storyline should be better.
Overall it not my cup of tea

Hunt
A very intriguing and adrenaline-filled movie that differs quite a bit from director Na Hong-jin's previous films.I also think they got the movie title wrong. This film is not Hope, it's Hunt. I honestly don’t know what the “hope” is supposed to be in this movie. But the title Hunt is extremely fitting because the entire film is one big hunt. Our protagonists are constantly switching roles — sometimes hunters, sometimes prey — and the chase continues from beginning to end, constantly shifting into a higher gear.
In my opinion, this is the film’s greatest strength: the nearly three hours fly by in a fast-paced, ever-intensifying run that builds tension right up to the so-called ending. It’s hard to say much more about the story without spoilers, so I’ll stop here. On the surface it seems simple, yet it’s surprisingly effective, especially if you go into the movie blind like i did.
Although the characters themselves aren’t at the center of the story (they all serve the larger narrative), the actors are charismatic and have interesting personalities. However, in the midst of all the chaos, there are often awkwardly funny scenes. I’m not sure the humor was really necessary here.
The camerawork is excellent and truly artistic, following the action as if the camera itself is participating in the chase. A lot of effort was clearly put into the scenes; they had to prepare an entire city to look the way it does, and you can see the immense work and dedication from everyone involved in the production. Visually and atmospherically, the film fully meets expectations. The epilogue at the end will certainly spark plenty of discussion, which should help this movie be remembered in both Korean and world cinema.

From a Potential Masterpiece to a One-Time Watch
To be honest, the beginning was quite slow, to the point where I started thinking the trailer was all hype. But I kept watching because of Zo In Sung. He's a huge star, and I'm glad I gave the movie a chance. The alien invasion concept felt so refreshing for Korean cinema, and I genuinely enjoyed the movie. It could have easily been a 9/10 for me.
But the moment they decided to do THAT to Koo Seong Gi's character, everything fell apart. I honestly couldn't bring myself to keep watching. What a stupid and unnecessary way to write such a character out of the story!
That single decision completely ruined the movie's rewatch value for me. What could have been a movie I'd happily watch again became a one-time experience.
**My first and last watch, all because of that ridiculously disappointing ending.** Such wasted potential!

Trust the Process
The less you know going into this movie, the better. Every time I thought I had this movie figured it out, it would catch me by surprise. It starts out with a mysterious creature wreaking havoc on a small town, killing animals and civilians. You have an incompetent cop chasing after this monstrous creature, and for the first 45 minutes you don't even get a glimpse of it. Once the creature is revealed, the movie becomes incredibly thrilling. The chase scenes were so fun to watch. Then Jung Ho Yeon appears on screen making the movie even better. Her character was one of the few smart ones in the movie because, in typical Horror fashion, you have characters making stupid decisions. At least it wasn't excessive. The cast is great. The action was exciting. What's unique about this movie is that you actually get to see things from the creature's perspective and learn more about their story. When it comes to the cons, I'd say the movie's length is a big one. It runs 2 hours 40 minutes and could have been shortened. The beginning seemed to have dragged a bit with the build up and suspense. The CGI was also not the best. The ending left me perplexed because the story shifts again, leaving room for a sequel. Overall, though, it was still an incredibly thrilling watch. It was worth it for the action.

Interesting movie not the typical alien invasion. The first half of the movie was great but disjointed from the second half b/c there are 2 plots going on which do not mesh well b/c there is really no explanation for the humans as to anything going on. One might have more sympathy with the "visitors" than the humans on some level.Excellent cast and Hwang Jung Min as the Chief of police was absolutely fantastic and hilarious. There are some genuinely very funny moment in this movie including a long drawn out story about pooping. One of the characters death is unnecessary but hilarious.
What the director does really well is tension building. There's an amazing scene with the "monster" inside this store and the Chief and another character have there faces against the window and you don't see the monster you just see shadows of something you know is there and then WHAM!!!! OMG it was a simply great scene.
What is not great is the CGI; just terrible and the ending was.......maybe there's a plan for a sequel!

From Sublime to the Toilet
Hope achieved something very few films manage to do with me: for a good portion of its two-hour-and-forty-minute runtime, it had me completely hooked. And perhaps that is precisely why its final stretch pissed me off so much. The film begins as an excellent science-fiction thriller. A small Korean town is confronted with an inexplicable event, and information is revealed intelligently: first we know something is happening, then we discover the creatures, then we realise there is more than one, and eventually we find a crashed spacecraft. Each revelation expands the mystery without destroying it.
And in the middle of all this comes Jung Ho-yeon, providing a perfect lesson in how to introduce a badass character. Nobody needs to tell us how extraordinary she is, show us her résumé, or explain what she can do. We simply watch her act and discover it for ourselves. A character is not badass because the script tells you so. They have to prove it.
The early action sequences are excellent, and it is important to distinguish visual effects from practical stunt work. Some of the VFX are far from convincing, but what the stunt drivers do with the cars is something else entirely. Some of those manoeuvres and crashes are genuinely spectacular.
The problem begins when the film enters its interminable final chase. What had previously been action that moved the story forward becomes repetition: run, shoot, scream, run again, shoot again. And then an even bigger problem appears: the physical rules governing the aliens change according to what the screenplay needs.
These creatures can move at astonishing speeds, yet later they cannot catch a car, people running on foot, or even a horse galloping down a road.
Apparently, the aliens' speed and strength are inversely proportional to the importance of the character they are chasing.
And just when we expect some kind of conclusion, the film decides to open another movie instead. A gigantic mothership falls from the sky, an extraterrestrial hierarchy is introduced, there is an emperor, new characters played by Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender appear, and suddenly an entire mythology emerges just as the film is ending.
Which only creates more questions. What brought down a ship that enormous? How does an object of that size enter the atmosphere over South Korea without triggering a military response? Where is the Korean military? And does a civilisation capable of interstellar travel really have no auxiliary vehicles or smaller craft, forcing its creatures to chase people and horses on foot?
We know Na Hong-jin considers this only the first half of the story and intends to continue it. Fine. That explains the ending. It does not justify it.
The audience paid to watch this film, not half of a film whose continuation may arrive who knows when. And the elements introduced at the end create frustration rather than mystery.
A film can leave questions unanswered. The problem begins when those questions no longer make you eager to discover the answers, but instead make you feel that part of the film you paid to watch is missing.
Hope had an extraordinary film in its hands.
And then it flushed it down the toilet.

A sci-fi movie with huge potential.
A sci-fi movie with huge potential.Honestly, this movie was way too amazing for a 7.3 rating. The acting was phenomenal, especially from Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Jung Ho Yeon. They played their roles incredibly well, and the rest of the cast did a great job too.
The CGI was surprisingly good. There were a few short scenes, maybe five or six seconds long, where the CGI was obviously noticeable, especially with the platforms and the creatures. However, the rest was incredibly well done. It was crisp, realistic, and almost Marvel-level quality. Most of the time, you couldn't even tell that the creatures were computer-generated.
Story-wise, I can understand why some people might not like it. A lot of information is missing, and plenty of things still need explaining. If this were supposed to be a standalone movie, then yeah, the story would be pretty bad. But it's clear that this is just the opening chapter of something much bigger, probably a trilogy or even four movies. If you look at it as an introduction to an entire series, it makes much more sense.
And the black comedy? Holy shit, it was fucking hilarious. The characters could literally be on the verge of death and still come out with the funniest lines. The scene with the old guy explaining how he couldn't hold his shit absolutely killed me. The humor was so damn good.
Overall, this is an amazing movie with great acting, impressive CGI, and some genuinely hilarious moments. Sure, it leaves a lot of unanswered questions, but I think that's intentional. It feels like the first installment of a much bigger story, so let's wait and see what comes next.
I highly recommend watching it. It has a lot of potential, and if the next movies build on what this one has established, we could be in for something really special.
