The Obsession Chronicles: Hua Yong Edition

I never thought I’d get so obsessed with pregnant men. I mean...what the actual hell?

I enjoyed this show a lot. Like, way more than I expected to. It’s not just about the shock factor but the characters are so unhinged in their pursuits that I couldn't help but be invested. What really got me hooked was watching Hua Yong’s obsession unfold. This man is on a mission and his determination to get what he wants is both hilarious and kind of terrifying. I loved seeing the different facets of his fixation, how it starts as a calculated game then spirals into something sweet. No spoilers here but let’s just say his schemes had me glued to the screen, snickering at how far he’s willing to go.

The main couple made me giggle so damn hard. . Hua Yong’s infatuation with Shao You is so off-the-charts like IT IS EMBARASSING LMAO. That man would crawl across glass just to breathe the same air as Shao You. He’s so far gone. And our little Alpha on the other hand is the grumpiest menace alive, he is pretending he’s in control when he’s clearly drowning in it too. I to be honest don't know how to describe their dynamic but its like watching a god fall to his knees for someone who can barely handle being adored and I was eating it up like the sick fool I am, OKAY??

Now...the second couple Gao Tu and Shen Wenlang. I liked them too don’t get me wrong but holy shit, Shen Wenlang is dumb. Like. dumber than a bag of rocks. I love him okay I really do but this man has the emotional intelligence of a brick wall and the decision-making skills of a toddler on a sugar high. How does someone with that much power manage to be so clueless? It’s almost impressive how consistently he fumbles every single opportunity to not be an idiot. He’s a disaster and I’m obsessed with roasting him for it LMAO.

Anyway here’s the thing: I’m not even an Omegaverse fan. Like, at all. The whole concept usually makes me roll my eyes. And don’t get me started on mpreg....normally it’s an instant nope for me. I see it coming and I’m OUT. But China has this infuriating knack for making every BL drama perfect no matter how outlandish the themes are. They take these eyebrow-raising ideas and turn them into something beautifully executed. ‘Desire’ is no exception. They got me eating out of the palm of their hand. Oh and a tiny spoiler for those of you who get the ick from mpreg: it only happens at the end. So if that’s what’s holding you back just know you’ve got a whole lot of drama to enjoy before you have to deal with that particular plot twist. Give it a try, seriously. If I can get past my hang-ups, SO CAN YOU.

Now for those of you who are scratching your heads over the whole Omegaverse thing and wondering what the hell all these terms mean... I’ve got you covered. Below is a little breakdown of the class system in this show because you might need a cheat sheet.

Alpha: These are the top dogs. Dominant as hell, aggressive to a fault and VERY territorial. They’re usually the leaders and when they go into “rut,” their sex drive cranks up to eleven, making them very HORNY. In ‘Desire,’ you’ve got the S-class Alphas, the cream of the crop, rare as fuck and stupidly powerful. They’re like regular Alphas but stronger, smarter, sometimes with freaky-ass abilities that make them damn near unstoppable.

Beta: The boring middle ground. These poor saps are neutral, forgettable and about as fertile as I AM LMAO (0 chance). Tbh...most stories don’t even bother with them because who cares? They’re just… there. Yawn.

Omega: The submissive, baby-making machines of the bunch. They’re nurturing, emotional and fertile as fuck. Instead of periods, they’ve got “heat” this annoying phase where they’re horny and stink of pheromones to lure in mates. They can pop suppressants to keep that shit under control but good luck with that when an Alpha’s around. They are basically walking bait.

Enigma: Now this is where shit gets wild. Enigmas are rare... basically like unicorns in our world LMAO. They’re above Alphas, superior in every damn way and in ‘Desire,’ they’ve got this fucked-up power to tame even the toughest Alphas and turn them into whimpering Omegas. They can flip the script and break the hierarchy. They’re dangerous, manipulative and sexy as HELL. Ahem Ahem (Go take a look at HUA YONG)

There you go, that’s my explanation in a nutshell.

Warning: This is Omegaverse. Throw your morals, your dignity and maybe your sanity out the damn window. There are themes of dubcon, noncon, toxic relationships and all the messed-up shit you shouldn’t be rooting for but here we are. If that makes you clutch your pearls and cry, do yourself a favor: don’t watch it.

Edit : 9.0 the ending was rushed.

JUST WATCH IT

If you’re already into the omegaverse, this is a must-watch you’ll go feral in the best way. But even if you’re new to it, Desire offers a unique sci-fi twist that makes the world intriguing to step into, to the new ones It might get a little bizarre later (we all know what the genre holds 👀) but if you’re open mindu and looking for something different, you’ll probably end up just as hooked.
It's a well-built omegaverse that finally feels true to its genre and immersive. With the added rare Enigma, tiying the dynamics to a DNA altering virus is creative, sci-fi-ish, and refreshing it makes it feel more realistic(?)

The main couple? Electric. Hua Yong is a literal orchid jade beauty! and when jealousy hits, the Enigma in him switch to a whole new personality. Sheng keeps falling for all his schemes, and honestly, same lol.

Even the kiss scenes felt sweet and natural no secondhand embarrassment here, just unexpected giggles. The side couple also brings chaos with an omega disguised as a beta, and I’m all in for that drama.

Gao Tu’s acting stood out the most so far, and while it’s still in worldbuilding mode, the pacing feels right. Only the two characters are in focus, which makes it easy to follow. Production quality? Surprisingly high. Those billionaire villas alone deserve a shoutout. You can tell they invested in detailed sets and styling. Nothing looks cheap or rushed, and even the camera work is smooth and solid.

The first real omegaverse series, strong beginning, flat in the end...

While Pit Babe tried to be omegaverse it was without explaination and without a real omegaverse story. This series explained most of it in the beginning and you think you will get a typical storyline, but you won't. This is more a psycho-thriller with BL elements than a BL with psycho-thriller vibes.

I won't go too much in details, because there are many reviews out there which will depict the series. When "Sheng" said "you little maniac" to his partner, he is exactly that. A ruthless, manipulative tyrant in most cases but with Mr. Sheng he is the cutest omega-like being on the planet. Mr. Sheng is also not a "child of sadness". While having a soft core he did also questionable things considering all his ex-lovers he had, a wolf in sheeps clothes so to speak.

Then we have a second couple which had a good dynamic in the beginning but got less and less screentime as the story progressed. While Shen is an alpha, he has too much hate for omegas in him to see the true nature of Gao and it ends in a disappointing finale (for me). There is hope, we will get a special to have their story to be completed but now it's open ended. At least for me it felt unfinished.

There is the critics who say there was rape, but in the omegaverse there are just animal instincts taking over when in "heat". It's not a rape per se, because both partner have the same desire. And everyone else who said "but we could see it clearly", yes that was because the director choose to show us even when in the story the room was dark.

Production budget seemed huge and in typical BL manner there is a lot of subtle bluring going on especially in the more romantic scenes and close-ups. The lip sync is also not perfect, especially with the child, the acting felt sometimes a bit stiff (due to the lib sync) and it often sounded subdued for the scenes we were seeing. Because this was a chinese production for the foreign market I wonder why they had to do this, because everyone besides chinese people would not know of the different chinese dialects and it took away some of the intensity of the scenes. Other then that, production quality was top notch.

While it is a groundbreaking series, it is far from a 10 for me, because a) I'm sound sensitive b) Shen seemed a bit too two-dimensional without the growth I expected and c) the finale. It's a very good show overall when you like the psycho-thriller approach.

You Can’t SHAME The SHAMELESS

Shen Wenlang is a blabbermouth who have the emotional awareness of a tablespoon, Sheng Shaoyou is a fluffy bunny with the temperament of an angry wolf, Gao Tu is a professional lair, and Hua Yong is…well, there’s a lot wrong with Hua Yong, but imma leave that for later, cuz right now I’m in a hurry. My aunt just called a family meeting, my grandmother is pregnant and she ran away with his boyfriend so…

WTH was that ending? People where are we running to? Who is chasing us? We were this close to perfection.

Anyway, I know for sure Hua Yong managed to manipulated me through the screen too, but I just can’t prove it. Cuz, tell me why I started this drama screaming at his lying arse, and here I am today, ready to defend him with all I have. Regardless, it isn’t much, just a half eaten sandwich and some gum, but still, I’d gladly give them away to defend that lunatic, who frankly needs to be smacked in the head with a Bible or put in a straitjacket, cuz the mfker is cray cray.

And I thought Cir (Boy Next World) was a psycho for inventing a whole parallel universe just to get a boyfriend, turns out there are levels to being a Lunatic when it comes to love. Let me lay it down for ya.

THE LUNATICS HOT 100: BL AUDITION
#1 Duan Zi’ang (New entry) = Kill to Love. REASON: Dude went to war and destroyed an entire country so he could kidnap his ex-boyfriend in hope to rekindle their doom relationship. Spoiler alert: it worked-ish.

#2 Hua Yong (New Entry) = ABO Desire. REASON: He’s a Hua Yong.

#3 Huai’ En (-2) = Meet You at The Blossom. REASON: Destroyed the livelihood of his lover’s family, so his lover would only be dependant on him.

#4 Ming (-3) = My Stand-In. REASON: It all started with Ming having a back fetish… smh.

#5 Cir (-4) = Boy Next World. REASON: My man invented a whole different universe just to get the boy.

#26 A Tuo (New Entry) = Secret Lover. REASON: Dude dated every girl who was interested in his crush to keep them away from him. That’s next level dedication.

Just to list a few. The only reason Hua Yong isn’t #1 is cuz the level of causalities he left behind weren’t as much, though, I have no proof, so it’s anyone’s guess at this point.

First off, to get something off my chest real quick. It’s getting real annoying with all these ‘I’m only here for the second couple’ nonsense crap that’s been going on in the bl world lately. “I’m only watching this because of the second couple. I skip all the other scenes except for the second couple.” OKAY AND? Dafug you want, Sharon? A cookie? An award, is that what you want Bob? I need some of y’all to give it a rest, cuz it’s no longer cute.

And I'm not talking about screen time, cuz in the case of Gao Tu and Shen Wenlang, although they were barely in the main story of the novel, I still had high hopes, and want more scenes with them, cuz they didn't have enough for my liking. I want ten episodes of Wenlang begging, Gao Tu being treated like he deserves and lots of kisses, but ya, we got what we got, and that finale was...yeah.

Anyway, so yes, I get it, sometimes we all get second couple syndrome, or the story of the second leads interest us more, but some of y’all have started to make it your entire personality and won’t shut up about it, to the point you start hating on the main couples, and have to let everyone and their mama know you're only here for the second couple. In the last couple of months alone, I saw it with Revenged Love, The Next Prince, Memory of Rati, to mention a few. Like, we get it, you are not that special Susan, go sit down.

I watched this drama for all four characters and l did not skip any scenes, and let me tell you, I had the most fun without being bitter and counting screen time even in effing previews. These four characters made the show and I remember them all equally and fondly, cuz really, it’s a story about MEN BEING PREGNANT, even if Shen Wenlang and Gao Tu were in the entire series for 5 seconds only, we’d still remember them. Cuz again, mpreg. Arrg.

SHENG SHAOYOU
32, 33 exes who were soft and loved to cry. Yeah, at some point we need to dissect this behaviour, cuz damn ho! Hua Yong was right, Mr. Sheng is a playboy, cuz did y’all see the moves he put on in the beginning of the drama when he was trying to get Hua Yong’s cookie? OMG, that s-tier Alpha was on!!

Mr. Sheng’s temper was adorable, omg, who even looks that cute being angry? Worse thing, it was just a front most of the time for his softie heart which was just so forgiven, cuz forgiving Hua Yong after he pouted a little and looked real sad at the cameras for an episode was wild.

I felt so bad for Mr. Sheng when he was being manipulated. Him and Gao Tu needed hugs, cuz those two best-friends (Don’t tell them I said this) from Country P had them and me stressing with their antics. I cried with him when Hua Yong left after attacking him. Hua Yong in the name of love put this poor man through heartbreak, high levels of stress, emotional abuse, physical pain that needed trips to the hospital, childbirth, Shen Wenlang, an identity crisis, and well… Hua Yong. Poor, poor fluffy bunny.

On a side note, Mr. Sheng is not all that innocent. The 33 crying virgins aside, dude was hitting that Omega girl while in a situationship/living together type of thing with Hua Yong. And, he was too soft-hearted and forgiven to the people around him. His father, brothers, Hua Yong. The way I’d have milked my anger with Hua Yong. But, after everything was exposed, Mr. Sheng went ‘alright, but lie to me again and walk out that door.’ Dude, that's it? The two s-tier Alphas in this drama were such losers when it came to love. Someone stalked you for years and homeboy went, ‘oh you’re a fan of me.’ No, Bob, he’s a stalker! If only you knew the things he did with your hands while you were sleeping.

Anyway, I love how kind-hearted Sheng’s real personality was, and how soft and adorable he is while secretly loving being pampered. Not gonna lie, I love the mouth on him too. There’s an episode when he was in a hurry, and dude literally shouted at his driver. ‘Have I lived long enough? is that it why you are planning to waste some of my time for me?’ LOL. Imagine if him and Mr. Shen were actually friends, they’d be so insufferable to be around.

GAO TU
My baby, my sweety-baby boo. Oh my beautiful Omega, how I wanna slap you with a rubber chicken. Hear me out, in the beginning I felt so much for Gao Tu to the point, I was looking for tickets to travel into my computer and punch Shen Wenlang in the throat, but as time went on, I went…

Yeah, Gao Tu is literally creating his own demons, and must like being miserable cuz, Sharon why? That fake Beta kept lying, and lying, and lying. Like, we all keep saying Hua Yong deserves an Oscar for his acting, but Gao Tu deserves one as well. He’d kept this lie going with Wenlang for 10 years, that’s a lifetime achievement best actor award right there.

Anyway, I felt the most for Gao Tu, everything with his sister, that sperm donor of his, and being in love with a man who hated Omegas. Man could not catch a break, and I just wanted to bubble wrap him and hide him away. But at the same time, I wanted to shake him. Yes, Mr. Shen sucks, but please talk to him, at least give him the benefit of the doubt for the sake of your friendship. Arrrggg.

I had a protect Gao Tu voice in my head that went, ‘Count your days Mr. Shen, it’s on sight! Whenever he said something hurtful to him.’ But at the end of the day, misunderstandings and miscommunications were their biggest enemy, and Gao Tu was rather the kind who’d rather go quietly into that night than make a whole lot of noise, and so in the end he had to endure all that hurt.

Mr. Shen didn’t suffer enough for my liking, but also, it was enough cuz of the lying. I’m glad our Gao Tu got his happy ending, a lovely son and a lover who…well, he’s Shen Wenlang and he comes with Hua Yong, so… but, he got his love and if he’s happy I’m happy for him. Still, I wanna shake him for making me sad for him when his problems would have been solved with the truth.

SHEN WENLENG
Abeg, make no one’s son come disturb me like Shen Wenlang did Gao Tu, cuz brotha why? At one point I was like, this man needs to rent out his brain and put his mouth out for sale, cuz he clearly don’t know how to use them correctly.

In kinder terms, Mr. Shen is pathetic and an embarrassment. No, I will not be explaining myself. Cuz really, you all saw it. Dude was literally trying to start a fight with a poisoned pregnant s-tier alpha on his hospital bed. He visited someone he’d missed and in love with and immediately insulted his home.

Yes, Mr. Shen’s mouth is a problem, but you know what, I don’t blame him for everything that happened. He trusts Gao Tu who he’s known for 10 years, so if he says he’s a Beta, that’s what he’s gonna believe. Sure, the Omega hating part is all on him cuz of his past trauma, and as a CEO of a pheromone company not being able to smell Gao Tu is an omega is wild, plus he’s emotionally constipated, but at the end of the day, they both to blame. Though, after the finale, I too would have ran away for three years.

Yes, we can argue: how the eff was Gao Tu supposed to know he felt different than the words he spoke? Cuz Mr. Shen was out there pretending to be with Hua Yong, telling Gao Tu his scent smelled, and he wasn’t pretty enough to be office decoration. HAHAHAHAH, No but, why is he like this??

But yeah, huge fan of Mr. Shen, you know, when he isn’t speaking. I think he should become a silent monk or something, cuz whenever he opens his mouth I go: Aeiii fresh boy, mr. mouth, mr spoke inside, mr information super highway, my friend will you keep quiet?

I’m glad he grew the eff up when he found out the truth. Truthfully, Shen Wenlang was the best. Yes, dude should pay taxes whenever he opened his mouth cuz all he did was littered with his words, but he was also a gentle soul. He cared and loved so much. Whenever Hua Yong was sick he was there, sure with an attitude but he was there, and the lights at Gao Tu’s… even being concern for Sheng Shaoyou, and they were born enemies. Plus he's basically HuaSheng’s second dad, cuz he’s the best godfather ever.

Also, I don’t care what both of them says, Hua Yong and Shen Wenlang are besties with a bow, cuz come on. I’m pretty sure someone would be like, ‘Mr Shen, where’s your best-friend, and he’d go, that lunatic? Who’d be friends with that crazy enigma?” hahhaa, but they do care. Asking each other for love advice and whatnot. I have no doubt when he asked Hua Yong ‘you cooking, who are you poisoning?', if he’d said a name and asked him to come and help, he’d complain but still go be look out.’ Best friend behaviour if you ask me.

HUA YONG.
HAHAHAHA. I’m sorry, but this enigma had me dying of laughter whenever he was on screen. Especially in episode 6. FAM!! Dude acted so traumatised, didn’t want to be touched, felt dirty and whatnot, and the whole time the mfker was a virgin. Sheng-xian-sheng was losing his mind with worry and regret, and Hua Yong was probably thinking, ‘1, 2, 3, cry now. 4,5,6 look real sad and shake a little.’ HHAHAHAHA

Every time I see Hua Yong on screen, I go, ‘here comes Mr. Sheng-xian-sheng-ing, he’s about to go, ‘Sheng-xian-sheng’ and completely do something diabolical while looking like an angel. FAM, this enigma for sure needs to be put in a zoo to be studied, cuz why?

No, but, this Enigma saw some foreigner boy one time under a tree and went, ‘that one, I want that one right there,’ and made it his whole identity. He’s a black flag, sure, but when all is said and done, he’s just a loser in love, who happens to have psycho tendencies. Man even had a proposal strategy in place, and while I was going awwww at their kiss, that enigma was like ‘taming desire is like taming an animal.’ Hua Yong trained poor Sheng-xian-sheng like a dog with the cookies. Ahhhh. He wanted that man, and he did not care how he got him, and frankly, I respect that.

Also, I wanna know, did Hua Yong wake up in the mornings and while brushing his teeth went through his scenes for the day? like: Today, imma pretend to be an Omega, make pregnant soup for Sheng-xian-sheng, pack my suitcase in case I wanna be dramatic, get more pink makeup, speak slow and low, make some cookies, oh and overdose on pheromones and almost die to teach Sheng-xian-sheng a lesson. Yep, it’s gonna be a wonderful day. HAHAHAHAH.

Oh Hua Yong. Compared to him, Gao Tu’s lying was nothing. This man was so manipulative and such a professional liar, it took literal natural disaster for his lie to come to light. The gods were probably watching, and Mother Nature was like, naaah, fuck that dude, that’s enough, then boom, earthquake. Then the mfker had the audacity while Sheng-xian-sheng’s world was crumbling to go, ‘Yes, it was me that night. Yes, I am not an omega. Anyway, I love you, can I keep pursuing you?” HE HAD NO SHAME WHATSOEVER. Cuz, dude, read the fucking room.

Speaking of shame, I was dying of laughter when he invited himself to dinner with Sheng-xian-sheng’s ex that time while he was being iced by him. Hua Yong was like, ‘yes, come with us for dinner, I won’t kill you.’ And I was like: ‘Who is us? aint no one invited you to this. Honey, read the room, you are the effing elephant.’ HAHAHAHAH. So shameless. I love him. And yes, I am questioning my morals, thank you.

Like Hua Yong was so good, looking all soft and cute for Sheng-xian-sheng so he’d get what he wants. Me? I can’t even act cute to ask for something from a partner. I tried one time, even stood in front of the mirror to prepare and everything, but at the end of the day all I could come up with was, ‘hey hmm dude, send me money, my pet chicken swallowed a spoon and its in the hospital. She needs emergency chicken surgery.’ Yet, Hua Yong is out there lining up Sheng-xian-sheng’s exes for insight, drafting proposals to get his man and marry him, making soups and cookies, learning to cry, running a company that could literally buy half the planet, while still finding time to be Sheng-xian-sheng’s dream man.

Poor Hua Yong is not a lunatic, no, he has suffered, while having to keep up with his lies, it must have been so hard for him. He worked so hard, and I frankly think he deserves applauds for succeeding instead of that straitjacket. I’m glad he also got his happy ending, regardless he’s beefing with his 3-year-old child cuz he's a jealous idiot, but he’s happy so that’s all that matter.

FINALE: Yeah, liked it, but not gonna lie, I expected more, instead it was rushed and we barely got to enjoy it. I am hoping for a special episode or like deleted scenes cuz... that was just cruel.

Plot-wise, this is a bl drama about pregnant men, I don’t think I need to sale anyone on watching it. Like, you should already be watching it, have finished watching it, or like me, on your 56th rewatch. There's no in-between.

All in all, I read the novel and enjoyed it, so I was all in for this drama, I laughed, cried, cursed and laughed some more. I’m now a die-hard D4 fan, cuz those four were really good in their roles and managed to make me like them outside of the drama as well. I want yearly dramas from them. I HIGHLY recommend this, it may appear slow in the start but trust me, it gets better. Was literally counting seconds to Saturday every week.

I’m gonna miss them. The wait for more drama from them is gonna be torture.

Anywho, thanks for reading and Merry Christmas. Yes, you read that right, I’m now in my enigma era, so I do what I want and I aint gonna follow no damn calendar, so Merry Christmas!

GIVE ME BOY PREGNANCY!

be warned this is toxic and FULLLLLL of red flags everywhere so this won’t be for everyone.

I have been waiting for a true omegaverse to come out into a live Adaptation forever. And the fact that it’s coming out of China just makes me so happy. like GIVE IT TO ME.

As soon as I saw the first trailer for this, I went ahead and Searched out the source material so that I could read it because I needed to know what this is gonna be about and if we were truly going to get in an Omegaverse.

I have never been happier

That being said, I’ve also never watched a live adaptation that literally pulls Page from Page from the Book. it’s following the book so closely that I’m a little shocked.

that being said, it makes me even more excited for the things that are coming.

I will admit I am a bigger fan of the second couple The secretary and the boss And I’m really eager to watch their story play out.

there are definitely trigger warnings from the book though. and since they are following the source material so closely I assume they will always be on the series.

anyway I’m excited. give me all the toxic.

**** spoilers /Trigger warnings****

there is SA
cheating
minipulation and obviously deceiving. (enigma pretneding to be an omega and omega pretending to be a beta)
male pregnancy — we actually DO get MPreg here and I love it.

The black hole of brain cells the Alphas had - the true entertainment.

Where to even start? The manipulations, red flags, black flags, assaults, temporary and plot convenient “face blindness”, amazing brainpower versus negative brainpower - the mix of everything one can imagine. And my brain struggles with comprehending all of that. But maybe that was the point?

The best and the worst aspect for me? Shen Wen Lang. I loved him and I hated him so much. How can one character be this dumb? It’s magical. And so entertaining. Frustrating too, but in an entertaining manner. I think the key to enjoying the show is to… not feel bad for any character and keep reminding yourself it’s just a makjang werewolf coded Omegaverse trash tv. It’s a bit like a horror movie - you are not supposed to feel bad for the victims… That’s sounds bad, but it is what it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So first we have the biggest victim - Sheng Shao You. That’s your smart-dumb male lead who knows enough to be impressive to others, but also lacks any street smarts and insight to see through Hua Yong’s schemes. To be manipulated this bad for this long is a skill itself. Still, one thing I did appreciate a lot was how his pairing with Hua Yong went against typical conventions. The “top” was the scheming feminine force, and the bottom was the manly man. It was surprisingly well written and delivered.

Then we have the blackest of black flags - Hua Yong. What a casting to be honest. Huang Xing was able to deliver the feminine vulnerability and the badass bitch energy seemingly without any problems and both cases were perfectly believable and made sense for the character he was playing. The fake smiles, smirks delivery when no one was watching fake tears, anger issues, complete obsession and devotion. All so wrong, all so entertaining.

Gao Tu was the most heartbreaking character of them all. Of his own making, that’s also true, but no matter how you look at it he was a victim of his social and economical situation. Truth to be told, his character was the only one that made me feel uncomfortable while watching There was one scene, a close up moment to his face that lasted maybe 3 seconds, but it was so raw and felt so wrong, even thought I was laughing like a maniac few seconds earlier because of the ridiculous plot, this one moment slapped me in the face with how wrong what I was watching actually was. And dear lord, that was such a bad choice from the production team. The way to enjoy these shows is to NEVER make them hyperrealistic, they are not supposed to be taken seriously.

As for the plot itself - what a mess. The only well written and delivered things were Hua Yong’s schemes. All the rest? Oh so bad. Starting from anything related to business - why? 80% of business related scenes were useless and had no impact on the overall story.

Then we have a joke that Gao Tu and Wen Lang story was . I do not care that they had even less presence and development in the novel. The good adaptation knows how to fix the shortcomings of the source material - you either remove bits you know you cannot elaborate more on, or you expand on the bits that were underdeveloped to create a more cohesive story with a strong and fitting conclusion. Here we have just wasted potential that their dynamic was. And I don’t even want to talk about the clownery the conclusion they received - I cried, screamed and laughed, because I could not believe that was it.

Acting was hit and miss. Huang Xing and Li Pei En easily delivered a solid and convincing performance. Qiu Ding Jie was a hit or miss depending on the scene - overall passable. Jiang Heng gave me nothing. That’s the “I got dragged here by a friend and got involved, but I don’t really know what I am doing here” vibe. Kind of hope acting is not his dream job (oops).

The production… Where to start? I did like how they managed to film and deliver the intimate scenes. There are obviously limits to how much they can show since it’s a Chinese BL, but without showing much, they were still able to deliver the sensual and at times a bit spicy image. Maybe I’m just tired of the soft porn we are getting from Thailand? Anyway, this was a pleasant surprise. They did go a bit too artsy with some filters, but since they used them to "censor" certain things. I will give them a pass. They clearly tried to do their best with the limits they had.

But then there are the ridiculous issues with editing - especially sound design and dubbing. There was one scene that lasted a good 10+ seconds where the characters were obviously talking, but there was no dialogue sound, just the background music. Stuff like that, things related to post production and smart planning more than the budget are hard to excuse.

Overall, what a bullshit drama it was, but how entertained they made it amazes me. There were a lot of things that should have been fixed, but I’d be lying if I said I did not have fun watching. But it’s for sure not the “it’s so good I love it”, but rather “it’s so bad, I love it” type of a deal. I ranted after every episode, my blood kept boiling, but I could not drop it, and I watched all episodes as soon as they dropped.

the revolutionary of bl

The story that came to life from a country where BL isn’t even allowed and yet brought us the omegaverse.
I’ve spent the past three months thinking about them; they never left my mind for even a single second. They made me fall in love with the actors and support them everywhere.
Gaotu, Shen Wenlang, Sheng Shaoyou, and Hua Yong ,you will always be the best characters I’ve ever seen in a TV show. I’ll miss you so much, and I don’t want to say goodbye, but everything eventually comes to an end.

Thank you for your service Gao Tu, but you only was not enough.

When I watched the trailer of this, I was really hyped, really excited...how silly I was.
I only started watching when they aired 15 episodes, so I was seeing the commotion around this, and made me think that I was missing so much, since I was not watching weekly. When I started watching, I wondered if I was seeing the same thing as everyone else, because it wasn't at all what I expected. I expected something good and found an empty story, with characters you hardly bond with because of their bad personalities. Hua Yong tried to be a manipulator with motives and people would like, but it didn't come off that way, just another boring character like any other. The main couple was boring and didn't entertain me at all. It made me super irritated to watch, it made me sleepy. The secondary couple was one of the things that made me want to keep going. Gao Tu carried the entire drama on his shoulders. He was the most interesting character in the plot, thus making Wen Lang interesting too. Their ending was so bad, vague, a waste of potential. I thought they would focus more in the pregnancy since this is point the audience were expecting, bust it was so fast that if you blinked you would miss, they couldn't close well the main couple, I was dreaming when I thought they could for the side. This drama was just a waste of people's time. I tried to like it, but it was very difficult. People asking for a second season, I dont think another season would fix, how boring this was.

"Desire" to rewrite the second half again! A mess but a hot one!

I will keep this simple. Starting with positives-

✅ The Concept: My first proper dive into the ABO universe, and I will give credit where it’s due... it’s ambitious and intresting. A world ruled by pheromones, hierarchy and biological destiny isn’t an easy thing to pull off, especially in a Chinese production where censorship is a constant obstacle. The setup promised layers of politics, biology, identity, control and even if it didn’t deliver all of it, the foundation was fascinating enough to keep me curious.

✅ Hua Yong: Easily the most consistently written character in the drama. If I have to describe HY it would be manipulative , psychopath and effortlessly cunning! He doesn't chase control, but he is the control. He was the type who smiles while calculating outcomes, who comforts you just to see how easily you fall apart. Everyone else gets lost in their emotions, but not him. Somehow the little black flag was always one step ahead and disturbingly steady.

All this may sound like I don't like him, but I love him! Haha he was most consistent character who stayed true to his nature until the very end!

If the red flags of the BL world had a conference, Hua Yong would be the keynote speaker and Jaemin from secret relationships , Ming from My Stand In and Vegas from Kinnporche would be in the audience!

✅ OST

Now for what didn’t work (oh boy!)

❌ The Second Couple: This was the Achilles' heel. A colossal waste of potential. Gao Tu and Shen Wen Lang had a setup that could have explored prejudice, deception and redemption. Instead, we got a subplot that felt like deleted footage stitched together. Their chemistry was barely developed and the emotional moments were rushed.

I do get they were the second couple and won't get 50-50 screentime but this was 95-5! I would have not complained if they listed them as side characters and not mains! And those 5% felt like dry leftovers. we are watching them chase their own tails in perfect circles...no growth, no progress, just filler vibes.

If the original source material lacked depth and scenes for them, then adaptation SHOULD HAVE filled that gap, not AMPLIFY it. I don't think this should be an excuse for the ending they gave us. Marketing them alongside the main couple was misleading because realistically they didn't even appear in few episodes together.

And Shen WenLang's backstory never saw the light of the day! Years of trauma was fed to us in normal day to day conversation with Hua Yong in barely a minute! His hate for omegas just felt like comical gimmick!

Again to the bed rock of my question, if you didn't want to address it , why introduce it ???!!!

❌ Both the alphas Shen and Sheng as characters were flat and frustrating. Considering S-Class Alphas are top of the food chain, they both were easy to deceive.
While I liked their chemistry with the their opposites, as an individual character i don't think they have any distinctive qualities to be remembered.

❌ Editing & Direction: Lighting choices were baffling. The editing felt choppy in the second half. I am sure censorship has a big role to play in this.
The fighting scenes between the two alphas were plain comical. While I appreciated the use of CGI for pheromones visuals, the balance was off.

❌ Writing & Pacing Issues: The drama started off so strong like peak potential, every scene hitting just right. But halfway through it started dragging or maybe it was a "me" issue. Don't get me wrong, there was so much going but yet it felt like nothing was actually happening. We are circling the same plot but never moving forward! I kept watching out of hope, not hype.

❌ All the business talks were boring and like background noise. Again, could have used that screentime for maybe something better!

⚠️ I understand this was ABO universe where consent doesn't work like human world and that is okay but the aftermath was never properly addressed and it took me out a bit! I have questions about the lore behind the NC scenes and it was never explained on screen.

⚠️ Acting: Not the worst I have seen, but far from great. Huang Xing as Hua Yong carried the drama with subtle menace and Li Pei En as Gao Tu was excellent in playing the damsel role a little too well while the other two alphas were hit and miss, mostly miss. You could feel the effort, but not always the conviction.

Overall, the concept was great but with weak execution. But it was a fascinating mess! I know it paved the way for ABO concept in BL world and it will always be remembered for that. However, the flaws cannot be overlooked.

Will I recommend it? That's a difficult question. For the new concept , definitely but go in with tempered expectations. As they say, it's better to be surprised than being disappointed.

Legend -
✅ : I loved it !
❌ : Better luck next time.
⚠️ : It wasn't entirely bad but could have been better!

Thank you for reading my review! If you liked the drama, please take this review with a grain of salt and one of the many opinions! :))

Please note - none of the criticism is a personal attack or HATE on the actors or the whole Desire team. I applaud the effort but somehow it didn't entirely worked for me. :(

Disaster

I'm only watching this series for the second couple and they have very less screen time and the main couple who can't even act have full screen time . First couple story is very laggy and stretchy plus second couple story is not moving because they don't have screentime .that it

.

B oldly D iving into S omething M emorable

Please bear with me. There are exciting aspects to Hua Yong and Mr Sheng´s story that extend beyond X. However, I am not that convinced by the series overall, despite agreeing that it´s impressive that they actually opened a wild door like this in 2025. I think it´s understandable why this series is hyped so much: It´s bold, it´s fresh -- It´s a lot of things that lovely viewers out there have yearned for. I mean, Omegaverse live action? In my younger years, I would not have thought this could ever be filmed. Yet here we are. What a journey ....

So what bothered me?
Where should I start? There are too many confusing, unspoken facts, almost as if some parts were purposely left unfinished. Completely leaving aside how toxic the whole omegaversa is in general ...... Additionally, I think the way they handled the music scores was sort of boring and predictable. Very repetitive. Besides Huang Xing´s (Hua Yong) performance for most parts, the acting was not convincing to me, even a bit frustrating at times. I admit there are some actors new to the industry, and everyone should have the chance to cultivate their skills -- and yet, I have to consider this when reviewing. Overall, the editing and acting were a bit too messy and anticlimactic.

Nonetheless, I was intrigued by the non-conventional take and idea of the story and what they did with it as the first "players in this genre" (Even though there were more coherent elements they could´ve added, especially to the plot of the side couple). I´m hoping to see similarly bold concepts and scripts like ABO Desire in the future.

A Must-Watch Omegaverse Masterpiece

ABO Desire is my second favorite Chinese BL after Revenged Love, and it stands out as the first uncensored Omegaverse Chinese BL. It dares to go where most dramas would hesitate, delivering raw emotion, intensity, and a love that burns beyond boundaries.

I absolutely love all four male leads. Each one is stunning and talented, bringing depth, charm, and intensity to their roles. Their chemistry is magnetic, making every scene feel alive and impossible to look away from.

Some people say this drama is too toxic, but honestly, if it were not this intense, it would be just another ordinary romance. The psychological manipulation, the possessive love, and the emotional chaos make it addictive. Every episode keeps you on edge, and not once did I feel bored.

The library earthquake scene is easily my favorite. It shook more than the walls; it shook the soul. Hua Yong throwing himself over Sheng Shao You, shielding him from falling debris, from the weight of the collapsing world, was love in its purest and most painful form. The iron rod piercing his body was nothing compared to the thought of losing the man he loved. Blood stained the ground, but love stained his heart even deeper. If this is not love, then what is.

Hua Yong’s past mistakes were terrible, yet they were born from love too deep to control. His love pushed him to protect but also to deceive, and now the truth tears them both apart. Sheng Shao You’s heart bleeds from betrayal even as Hua Yong’s body bleeds from pain. He pushes Hua Yong away, not because the love has faded, but because the hurt has become unbearable. They drown not in the ruins of an earthquake but in the ruins of their own hearts. The body may heal, but the heart, once broken by love and lies, carries scars that time cannot erase.

What makes this Omegaverse world so beautiful is the freedom it offers. Gender does not matter. Love is simply love. Couples can marry, have children, and live openly. Even Sheng Shao You’s father’s acceptance of Hua Yong felt like a miracle. In so many BLs, coming out brings rejection or heartbreak, but here it brought warmth and hope.

Hua Yong dreamed of that happiness since he was sixteen. He already had a name for their future child—Hua Sheng—with the sweet nickname Peanut. Every detail of their future was painted in his heart long before it could exist. One quiet afternoon, Sheng Shao You told his brother, “I’m bringing your future in-law.” Just three words, yet they shattered Hua Yong’s composure. After fifteen years of silent love, those words turned dreams into reality.

But love, no matter how deep, cannot always protect against tragedy. Sheng Shao You’s brother, Shao Qing, spiraled into debt and darkness, dragging everyone with him. Despite countless chances and forgiveness, he betrayed them again, poisoning his own brother and raising a knife to kill him. Hua Yong did not hesitate. He took the blade himself to save Sheng Shao You. If that is not love, then what could ever be called love.

Hua Yong now stands at a crossroads between mercy and justice, torn between the love he protects and the family he must destroy to keep that love safe. Every choice bleeds with sorrow. What was once a dream of breakfasts, a child named Peanut, and peaceful mornings has become a war fought in the name of love.

ABO Desire is bold, thrilling, and emotionally devastating in the best way. It delivers passion, heartbreak, and beauty all at once. A solid 10/10 in my eyes, and an absolute must-watch for anyone who loves Omegaverse or Chinese BLs that dare to push beyond the ordinary.
