The warmth of the sun rays
April 24, 2026Oh my god, this is one of the best Chinese drama to be released and that I have watched. A solid 10, deserves more than 10 across all scores.
I feel so warmth and hopeful. It truly is a revolutionary Cdrama. I feel like the resilience of Fei Ni and Mu Yang really showed the epitome of true love, marriage, and values of partnership. I am so in awe of the main leads, I feel like there was so much dopamine and serotonin that were injected into my veins.
It’s just so positive and inspiring, I don’t even know how to fully describe the emotions I felt watching this drama. It is a must watch, I love the main leads, and the second leads Mu Yang’s sister and the Doctor. I truly think that it is just so refreshing to see a slice-of-life drama that just unravels in such a pace that is neither boring or that is too slow for me. The plot progresses well and I truly feel like I was transported back in time and in a setting I am not even familiar with.
The directors, writers, producers, actors, and everyone that partake in this drama — yall ate so hard. I just eugh, not enough words and praises can atone to the level of value and admiration I have for this drama.
So please give this the love it truly deserves! Another S-tier drama we have BABYYYYYY

“A Wholesome Journey of Love, Family, and Dreams
In a time when many dramas chase flashy plots and dramatic twists, Love Story in the 1970s stands out as a quiet, heartfelt story that deserves far more praise and higher ratings than it currently receives.(Currently 8.5)What makes this drama special is its beautiful writing and well-crafted characters. Every character feels real and meaningful, and most importantly, each of them receives a satisfying emotional closure. No one feels unnecessary or forgotten. Their journeys—small or big—are thoughtfully explored.
One of the most heart-warming aspects of the drama is its portrayal of relationships beyond romance. The story beautifully highlights family bonds, in-laws, and even the warmth of neighborhood communities. Instead of focusing only on the couple, the drama shows how people grow together—supporting one another through hardships, celebrating achievements, and slowly building their dreams.
The romance itself is gentle and mature. Rather than relying on exaggerated confessions, the drama teaches that love is expressed through actions, responsibilities, promises, and everyday care. Watching the characters grow closer through behavior and sacrifice feels natural and deeply touching.
I’ve heard that the original novel contains even more story beyond what the drama shows. Still, the adaptation does a remarkable job. One common issue with many C-dramas is that they struggle to maintain interest until the final episodes. However, Love Story in the 1970s is one of the rare exceptions for me. From episode 1 to episode 29, I enjoyed every moment of the journey.
The drama captures a pure slice-of-life atmosphere—wholesome, nostalgic, and emotionally comforting. It doesn’t rely on unnecessary drama; instead, it gently reminds us of the beauty of ordinary life, love, and human connection.
A warm, nostalgic, and wholesome drama that truly deserves more recognition. Highly recommended.

It's shockingly a good drama this 2026!
Okay—hear me out. Watch this drama.I honestly wondered why it isn’t as popular as the other drama currently airing, because, in my opinion, this one is actually a little better.
At first, I didn’t plan to watch it. I still couldn’t move on from When Destiny Brings the Demon, the previous drama of Arthur Chen, and I also wasn’t a fan of the female lead.
But to my surprise, after just one episode, I ended up staying awake until dawn binge-watching all the available episodes. It’s that good—you can’t help but crave the next one.
The acting, the plot, the chemistry, the roles they portray, the plot twists, the setting, the mood—everything simply works. The acting feels natural, the chemistry is convincing, and the plot twists are timed just right so you end up smiling before an episode ends (or cry when you have to 😅).
This is easily one of the best feel-good dramas out there. I especially love how the cast brings the story to life.

Warm comfort drama
This is my comfort drama ❤️ its so warm and cozy. I didn't expect much going into it because i didn't care for the male lead. I saw him in L&P and hated that show and didnt care for his look either so i havent watched him since but this show surprised me! It's an absolute gem! When watching dramas I never care about the second or third couple but im literally invested in every couple on this show including FLs dad he's so sweet how he sings like that and does skits, it makes me smile like crazy!❤️❤️ ill deff rewatch this in the future! Was this review helpful to you?

A relaxing but frustrating journey
I almost dropped this drama multiple times. Yang, played by Arthur, was incredibly childish, and I couldn't connect with his acting. He always has this blank, dumb expression on his face, which made it hard to take his character seriously. On the other hand, Fei was a standout. I rooted for her from the very beginning. She gave her best for Yang, but he just kept acting silly and irresponsible. He had no sense of responsibility or interest in supporting his family.
Where the drama truly shined was the second couple, Hua and Jing. Their journey to love was beautiful, and honestly, I was more excited for their scenes than for the main couple.
Now, let's talk about Lin Mei – the most annoying character ever.
The good news is that Yang eventually improves, but the road there is painfully long. The drama will draw you in with the beautiful 1970s atmosphere of China, and you will enjoy that aspect. But 29 episodes was way too long, especially since the beginning felt like a waste. Yang eventually finds his ground and protects Fei in every situation, but I just could not connect with him because I don't really like the actor.
The ratings and praise for this drama are very high, but for me, it lands on the better average side. It has its moments, and the second couple is lovely, but the frustrating start and slow progress hold it back.

Innocent Love full of respect and harmony
The story itself is refreshing with adorable ML and FL. ML is a perfect husband character with wonderful traits of a man and FL is self-preserved, self-respect, kind, patient and extremely hard working with personal goals and dreams. Both give the drama a heartfelt harmony and peace. I love the directing, beautiful scenery, humble costumes, and the selection of ML and FL. The only negative parts are the 2nd ML and FL. They are so out of place in this drama. It's as if the director wants to create something exciting (sexually charged) portions just to attract certain viewers looking for steamy parts. I just skipped all their parts without even affecting the story. It baffles me when some viewers are in love with the 2nd ML and FL. To me they are so irrelevant like a separate drama cut and paste into this drama. Overall, I really enjoy watching it.Was this review helpful to you?
One of the reasons it worked so well for me was the male lead. I’ve watched him before in Lighter and Princess and When Destiny Brings the Demon, and once again he completely captured the essence of his character. He has a way of expressing emotion that feels very natural — Watching him bring the character to life specially the parts where he plays the mentally impaired part made the story even more believable and emotionally engaging.
The female lead was equally impressive. Her delivery of emotions felt sincere and genuine, and she brought a quiet strength and warmth to her role. Together, the leads created a connection that felt authentic and heartfelt, which made the romance easy to believe.
Loved the slow-burn romance. I’ve always loved stories where feelings grow gradually rather than being rushed, and this drama handled that beautifully. The relationship develops through shared experiences, patience, and emotional understanding, which makes every moment between them feel meaningful.
The plot itself carries a lot of emotional weight, but it’s told in a way that feels thoughtful and sincere rather than overwhelming. It’s refreshing to see a male lead character so enthusiastic and green flags.

Proof that the simplest love stories can be the most unforgettable ❤️
This drama felt so warm and comforting from start to finish. The story is simple, but the way it’s told makes it really special. It captures the struggles and everyday life of that time so beautifully, and the romance develops in such a natural and heartfelt way.The ML was amazing. His character was calm, dependable, and quietly loving. The way he supported the FL and stood by her through everything made their relationship feel so genuine. You could really feel his sincerity in every scene.
The FL was just as wonderful. She portrayed her character with so much strength and warmth. I loved how she balanced being resilient while still showing vulnerability. Her chemistry with the ML was so natural that their love story felt very real and easy to root for.
Another thing I absolutely loved was the family dynamics. The families didn’t feel like side characters at all — they added so much heart to the story. The way they supported, worried about, and cared for each other made the drama feel very realistic and emotional.
Overall, this drama is touching, nostalgic, and full of heart. It’s the kind of story that makes you smile, feel emotional, and appreciate the small moments in life. Definitely one of the most comforting dramas I’ve watched.

What a delicious drama!!
What a delicious pleasure. When you have a good production and good actors, everything else is secondary. However, in this case, not only are the production and main leaders good, but also the screenplay, secondary characters, and music are good, resulting in a lovely drama. There is no need for extraordinary actions; only tiny, real, human moments to capture attention and show real love in probably one of the hardest moments in China’s history. Despite edulcorating the history, under the lines you can appreciate a subtle criticism of that period, which is very well received from the outside.
Overall, a delicious drama that I won’t get tired of watching and won’t get old over time. One of my favourite dramas, no doubt.

Fang MuYang....Fang MuYang..... had the entire drama together. We all need a Fang MuYang in our lives. I mean, he's flawed. Yes. But he's like the one in a million.
The stroy was just amazing. It just thought me so many things in the most subtle way possible.
I'm so moved with the message this drama passed on to me,you and all of us.
The drama, makes me realise how important the present is, how important patience and persistence is and nevertheless how importance family ties are relationships are.
And yes. Speacial mentions are the MEN IN THIS DRAMA.
ALL MEN IN THIS DRAMA AS ABSOLUTE GEMS from Fei Mingde to Fei Ting to Qu Hua to Fang Qianyuan to Fang MuYang.... they were such amazing husbands, amazing individuals.
These characters with the other female ones gave deeper meaning to this drama. I genuinely appreciate the casting.

A story which is a warm hug set during China’s era of cultural change and reform.
The love I have for this drama is truly something else, as Love Story in the 1970’s turned out to be a very different experience than what I originally expected going in. If anything, it became an experience I valued all the more.A lot of the reviews I’ve read pride this show for the comfort it left them feeling whilst watching, and yes, there is comfort to it But it is not all that the show has to offer. While Fang Mu Yang and Fei Ni’s relationship throughout the series is one that is akin to being wrapped in a blanket, for me it was also the time period that made this show special. Love Story in the 1970’s is set throughout a heavily political period for China’s history, a time which was built within a strict communist regime which later broke with China's Cultural Revolution. While I won’t comment much on the shows address of this difficult time period in the larger sense of the world it paints in the background, what really stood with me was the bond of family throughout the story, and how even with some of the harsh setbacks and difficulties that the characters were faced with, that theme and bond was still a strong one that the characters held and carried with them throughout. This is a show which encourages further reading to fully understand the context of the struggles these characters face, especially during some the moments towards the middle of the show which pull even more from true history - such as the disastrous Tonghai earthquake.
The cast do a superb job throughout with their performances - I cannot think of a single person who fell flat. Even the characters you don’t necessarily want to root for are brought to life wonderfully, and some you even grow to love as their own story arcs develop with the shows growth. Arthur Chen and Sun Qian are standouts; Sun Qian’s Fei Ni is headstrong and determined, whilst also carrying a charm of heart about her that makes her so likeable to the viewer. Arthur Chen brings just as much charm to his Fang Mu Yang, whilst also bringing him to life with a strong resilience to pick himself up time and time again against all the hardships his character faces. In fact, that seems to be one of the main strengths and themes running throughout this show - resilience in the face of a time of great poverty and hardship.
If you love dramas that offer not only a lovely story of family and the bonds that tie us but which are also rich in history - so much so they encourage a desire to learn more about the time period and just how truly difficult it was for many and how the scars left behind from it remain embedded within families even today - please do yourself a favour and check this show out. I am so surprised by how rich it ended up being, so much so that Love Story in the 1970’s remains a little treasure among the vast number of titles out there.
