Against the Current Episode 35 Reactions
Prince Han is outraged that JinQi has escaped and has offered every prize imaginable to have his head. Commander Wei is more than happy to accept the mission and the quest is on. Nanke is the angel to the rescue. It figures that when JinQi left men to protect LanXiang she has to send to rescue him. Omg that was a close call with the musket. Lanxiang did well getting him to recognize her quickly cause soldiers in war …that is a whole other mindset. The literal carrot and stick with the mule🤣 Her feeding the mule first and then same hand with JinQi.🤣😂 Even in dying state he was not happy being second and getting mule slobbers.🤣😂 His men arrive just in time to take on Wei. It will be a very close fight and I hope the right commander wins. Han is livid that JinQi trashed his plans. He is literally demanding jinQi’s head on a platter. So glad the emperor shut up the connivers in the court. They thought the emperor cowardly and stupid. Unfortunately it looks like his son really is. Scholar Han was damn impressive pointing out what they were doing and asking directly how to write edict. He’s gonna be in trouble but he doesn’t lack courage. He really puts himself out there for justice for the people. The Lins are dressed as commoners and hiding but Ying Zhi accidentally betrayed their location. JinLan used his weakness as strength and that TB scare was perfect. Thanks to jerk dad YingZhi probably did look thin. That story was so believable and him coughing up blood is worrisome. There has been no mention of new physician treatments while in capital and now it’s every person for themselves. It is total chaos inside and outside of the palace. The emperor is ready to lead the charge and has gates closed with no entrance or exit allowed. Jinqi is mending in a straw hut used to monitor ducks. Who knew a lesson in musket shooting could be romantic?🥰 I would love Prince Han, Mr Dai and Wei commander gone for good during this upheaval. Duke Ying hopefully doing his part with the Shens a grim reminder of falling out of favor for a stance. This is where scholar Han may find himself in trouble when fighting is over. Next episode shows Ms Dai fighting for her life and probably silver. This would be a very unique alliance if she and Lan Xiang team up.

What's with the Lin brothers?! Y'all cannot spilled blood like that! 😱Got us worrying all over the place when we're not even in the capital. 😭And they better keep Jinlan well and alive til the end! I'm not cut out to keep this kind of secret, ugh 😭(Jinqi hearing Lanxiang's voice when he was fighting to stay alive, heeelp 😭😭😭)Kudos to Liu Xue Yi for his performance, he's amazing! The way I feared for Lin Jinqi even though I know he will survive, damn! 👏👏👏

In a moment of high tension, Lin Jin Qi lights the fuse that destroys the weapons depot. He collapses to the ground amidst sparks and flying gunpowder debris, blood spilling from his mouth. His enemy, Prince Han, refuses to accept defeat, declaring he will not rest until Lin Jin Qi is dead, and urges his soldiers to capture him. Jiu Gao arrives on horseback; in slow motion, he reaches out to help his friend, who is swaying unsteadily but manages to grasp Jiu Gao's hand. They succeed, and Lin Jin Qi climbs onto the back of his friend's horse.Later, in the forest on a freezing night, a badly wounded and exhausted Lin Jin Qi leans against a tree. Jiu Gao is reluctant to leave him alone, but Commander Lin Jin Qi orders him to alert a certain Duke and have him send troops to protect the King. Jiu Gao worries that the stubborn Duke will ignore the request, but Lin Jin Qi explains that the Duke has a vested interest in the matter due to past events. He tells him: "Duke, remember the lesson of the great scholar Shen." Reluctantly and fearing for Lin Jin Qi's life, Jiu Gao finally leaves, but only after Lin Jin Qi pushes him, urging him to hurry. On the road near the carriage, Jia Lan urges the troops stationed there to go to Lin Jin Qi's aid, as she is uncertain if he has survived. She realizes from the gunpowder smoke that Lin Jin Qi succeeded in his mission, yet Prince Han still possesses the strength to overthrow the King. Torn between their orders to escort Jia Lan to the manor and the need to help Lin Jin Qi, the apprehensive soldiers rush off to find him. In the imperial hall, Secretary Zhao and his stepson attempt to deceive the king and lure him out of the palace's protection. However, the emperor senses their malicious intent, thanks to the scholar Han, who offers a different perspective on the matter. Consequently, the two are arrested, and the king sets out with a plan of his own to thwart Prince Han.Lin Jin Qi’s ailing brother is hiding in a secluded room with the family’s women and a child; the child’s crying draws the attention of nearby enemy soldiers. To divert suspicion, he steps out carrying the child in his arms, telling the soldiers that he has tuberculosis and the girl is mute. Fearing his illness, the soldiers leave them be. Jin Lam then coughs up blood but immediately swallows a ball of ice to hide it from his wife and the other women. When he returns to the room and reunites with his wife, their hopes are renewed, and they are filled with joy.On a forest path, enemy soldiers are closing in on Lin Jin Qi, who is hiding behind a tree; struggling to stay conscious, he can barely load gunpowder into his pistol. Suddenly, a small troop sent by Jia Lam arrives and engages Prince Han’s soldiers. From behind the tree, Lin Jin Qi smiles at their boldness and the way they joke even in the face of the enemy. While the soldiers clash nearby, Jia Lam approaches unnoticed. Startled, Lin Jin Qi raises his unloaded pistol but quickly drops it. It is Jia Lam; she says, "It’s me, Jia Lam."She manages to help him onto a horse, where he slumps forward. She feeds brown sugar to the horse and offers some to Lin Jin Qi as well; he complains about it. Just as she is about to playfully scold him, he faints, blood spilling from his mouth. She takes him to a cave and gives him water mixed with medicine. He wakes up and tries to help her learn how to use the pistol. It is a near-romantic, life-or-death moment between them. The episode ends there. Let's move on to episode 36.

Excellent episode and execution. Loved that the emperor is not a cowards. The old fogeys get there comeuppance quickly. Leads have a great moment and honest conversation. Also my favourite villainess arc is in this one

I hope the drama "Against the Current" wins an award in 2026, as it deserves recognition among C-dramas. The intricate development of each character's storyline captivates the audience, allowing viewers to empathize with their experiences of both sorrow and joy, which fosters a desire for their improved circumstances. Additionally, I appreciate the narrative structure, as it effectively interlinks events in a way that highlights the cause-and-effect relationships. I eagerly look forward to rewatching all the episodes once the series concludes.

I was on my toes, holding my blanket, standing in front of the screen watching this episode. I felt my eyes weren't large enough to catch every detail

I saw Jingao in the courtroom — did he warn the Emperor in advance about the rebellion? But kudos to Han Liang for helping to change the ministers' minds (don't know if it was intentional or not, though), and to the Emperor for seizing Zhao Jin and Dai Qing. 👏👍I knew Lanxiang would return for Jinqi... I had that hunch. And Jinqi's men arriving at almost the last moment before he would have been found. 😮💨What an episode... really. And I was so afraid Jinlan would die when he went out with Yingzhi to meet the soldiers, but to be fair, I still am. His illness is winning, as it seems. 🥺🤧P.S. Does anyone know the meaning behind those beans or peanuts (not sure which ones they were, but they might be beans) Jinlan gave to his wife before going out with Yingzhi?
