My goodness! What a performance by Li Meng!

I can't say enough about Li Meng's performance as Xingtang. What an amazing actress doing an amazing job. This was a perfect acting seminar on rendering a very complex, tragic and yes, sympathetic,'villainess' character. Loved every minute she was on screen and it's sad that her arc is done now.

Live well

Lanxiang was given instructions of how to use the musket and then JinQi passed out with a fever. While LanXiang looks for herbs she comes across a couple of soldiers with Ms Dai. One has hurt her and the other mocks her to kill him. Lanxiang surprised them all with her musket taking out one and Ms Dai finishes off the other. Lanxiang warns her that the soldiers will be worse than bandits and that they part ways now. She is followed all the way to the hut and there the two women have a very interesting conversation. Jin Qing woke just before they got back so he is monitoring their conversation. I was wondering if Ms Dai truly that vain with her comb, but it had a secret compartment holding evidence proving JinQi helped the deposed prince escape and had committed treason. Both the news and the gift were shocking for LanXiang. She wondered at kindness returned for kindness when that definitely was not the Zhao way of doing things. Here Ms Dai reveals the extent of her injuries and thanks LanXiang for killing the man that humiliated her and for sharing the food. That was reason enough for the gift. She wanted LanXiang to live well and never be mistreated by the Lin family. They talked of a world where women could be educated, marry who they wanted and have their own money earned by their own trade. She even gave LanXiang permission to call her Xing Tang. Her father and brother deserted her and her friend after stealing their money. The biggest irony is that they died first. Very like Ji’Er she just wanted to have a business with her friend and be XingTang. She asked to be burned to ash and nothing else than the wish for LanXiang to live well. Jinqi has watched this take place and he quaked a bit at the letter revealing his deed saving deposed prince. What stuns him more is watching LanXiang read the letter thoroughly and then burn it to ash. This was providential because now Commander Wei and his men are their for JinQi’s head even knowing Prince Han was defeated. Very bad place to leave things this episode😝🙄. Jinqi is reminding him of the cost to kill an emperor’s man but there is still a sword in his throat and the musket is not reloaded. The one thing that still stunned JinQi is when he asked LanXiang if she had anything to tell him several times, she mentioned Prince Han’s defeat and that XingTang had followed her back and now is dead. She said there was nothing else to tell him. It is a wonder she threw her lot in with the Lin’s considering their history. It is also amazing that she chose to keep the man safe that stole her life and linked her to the Lins forever. What was a major news flash to JinQi is that she never had feelings for Scholar Han even if he fixed it so she could be remarried.

Is there anything you want to say to me?

I do not like Zhao Xingtang but damn, what a life full of suffering she lived. I did not expect her to die, and especially not in such circumstances...That man is on the verge of death, yet still talking about Han Liang when our good girl trying to learn how to shoot. XDHopefully, he will leave Han Liang name alone now that he knows she was never in love with that Scholar, lol.Every episode, he falls for her again and again. When she burned the evidence, he was in such awe, he cried. 😭We better see them be happy plenty times before the end. 🥺🥺🥺

Xingtang's arc

This is a tear jerker of an episode. Li meng's performance is award worthy and she makes us root for her. Her arc has a lot of learnings and whole her actions are not condonable , she is understandable as a grey character. Also LX burning JQ's treason evidence

Repaying kindness with kindness

I never expected Xingtang would go out like this. Her conversation with Lanxiang was touching in many ways. I felt pity for her and for her life where in the end she was always like a trophy to someone that got thrown away the moment it lost its value... Lanxiang understanding her wish to live as herself in her next life... This episode really didn't spare me. 😭💔The good side, though, is that Lanxiang got that evidence about Jinqi helping the deposed Crown Prince to escape and burned it. I am not sure if that's because she cares for Jinqi that much or because the Shen family were supporters of the deposed Emperor (because I think they were, right?), but either way, seeing her burn it without ever using it against him meant a lot to Jinqi. He definitely feels important to her now.🥹And then, of course, another cliffhanger that leaves me wanting to watch the next episode right away. Also, if I understand it right, we only get one per day starting from tomorrow...😔
