Wow, cousin almost looks prettier than she does. His comment about safe being a man while dressed as a woman. 🤯His feet gave him away to Lan Xiang. Now she knows it’s a tryst plus the ledgers and she doesn’t want killed for knowing about it. She’s got that story running through her head and has survival on the brain. She made a woman excuse and Feng sent her to buy soup. She deliberately runs into a customer leaving to prove she was not near tryst site. After the commotion she is forced to kneel til she looks like a popsicle. Feng has got herself out of the equation but joined in with Lan Xiang’s friend that with the bday banquet coming up it was not worth conflict with Lins over a mere maid. It was a sweet and poignant moment as her friends helped her thaw out. I am glad these three help each other. It was very brave of her friend to plead for her as it was just as likely they would both be in the snow kneeling. I was annoyed that Feng let the poor girl take all the blame but this did allow LanXiang to go home. She did what all kids do, came home for money.🤣😝 She needs funds to pay the shop for compensation costs and then all forgiven. She also finally got the pouch her mother made for her. She sees her mother’s hands and takes the littles amount possible from them. JinQi has done his homework and knows LanXiang can read. He blackmails her into spying for him. I respect her for not drinking his tea and not commenting inadvertently about how safe he can keep her family. 😔I think they are both appreciating the blossoms because they were that pretty when she was heading to her engagement party. When everything was happy and beautiful. He reminisces about what should have been and I think she remembers her last trip with her mother and her last wish for her to live. JinQi’s servant was very stoic about having hot tea hurled at him. I don’t even think he flinched. JinQi was right that she would be furious if he was a no show. Now to see how many maids accompany her. Next preview show lady trying to escape and hubby coming to block her exit.

Wow, does that mean Xingtang and Jinqi never consummated their marriage? I bet it's easier to divorce if that's the case, no? 🤨And they finally talked! I didn't think she would become his spy, but I actually love that turn of events. He had gathered info on her because of that painting and knows she's hiding things from Xingtang. Now, meeting and talking with each other on a regular basis will bring them closer... I am a little hyped for this arc! 🤗Also, why were they both watching the plum tree blossoms? My guess is they might be her favourite and he just enjoys them because they remind him of Shen Jialan. 🫣I really want to add how much I love Yingge and Xiaolian. That scene where they took care of Lanxiang when she was so frozen was really touching. "A close neighbour is better than a distant relative." That line is so true. 🥹❤️

Episode 7: We finally meet (but don't know each other yet)A young woman is punished in the freezing cold and frost. Her friends' care brings her comfort—and warmth. Her reunion with her mother is sweet and heartwarming. The head of the household (Lin Jin Qi) makes her an offer she cannot refuse, given the fear of what might happen to her at the hands of the mistress. A couple lives in the shadows, hiding away; yet this time, Lin Jin Qi sees what is happening. He appears from behind the trees with a keen gaze, watching the strangely disguised figure climb the stairs. Our main couple still doesn't truly know each other. In this episode, they become accomplices in an investigation. (Where will this lead in the story?) I’m looking forward to the next episode, which I’m about to watch now.PS: And what about those red flowers on the tree? Why did Lin Jin Qi give some of the branches to the grandfather? And why did Xianlan stretch up, reaching out to touch a high branch? She also noticed that some branches had been cut recently. (Did she realize it was Lin Jin Qi?) Is Lin Jin Qi’s hidden sensitivity revealed in those small branches?

Here is my personal interpretation:
"A spray of red apricot blossoms leans out over the wall."
Cultural metaphor:
In classical Chinese poetry, “red apricot leaning over the wall” is a well‑known metaphor for a married woman’s infidelity — in ancient times, people did not say “cheating”; they used this poetic image instead.
Contextual twist in this story:
However, the setting here is clearly winter. Apricot trees do not bloom in winter — only plum blossoms do. So the author deliberately replaces the “red apricot” with a branch of plum blossoms extending from the wall. This is written from the male lead’s perspective, echoing the old metaphor and hinting at temptation or emotional crossing of boundaries.
Female lead’s perspective:
From her point of view, plum blossoms carry a completely different symbolism. Because they bloom in the dead of winter, they represent resilience, purity, and an unyielding spirit. Seeing the plum blossoms blooming so beautifully in the snow, the female lead is deeply moved. The flowers become a quiet encouragement to her — a symbol of strength and dignity rather than infidelity.

@bianbian16141 I think the ML feels some of this also... he takes a branch of the blossoms to his grandfather, as if to symbolize to his grandfather that he intends to insure the continuance of the family through resilience in the face of hardship.
