All the maids went with Ms Zhao to her mother’s bday party. What she was unaware of was JinQi and scholar guest showing up. Her dad was more than happy to show off his library and little did they know (except for JinQi) that they had walked in on a tryst. I am curious about why JinQi’s man was dressed as a woman, but he was quite pretty too.🤣 He warned Lan Xiang not to go back or she would die. But LanXiang was not going to let the friend that saved her die. So back she went and they found themselves trapped behind casks as people went in and around the library. It was a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation because nowhere was safe. Inside the library Ms Zhao learned what a coward her lover was. They had the tragedy of a lost child between them. We will most likely never find out their story and after his groveling to her father about what a seductress she was and how it was all her fault….she won’t want to remember it. 😝 His lament of his love for her reduced to that😝🙄 There just aren’t words for it. Guess he’s been wearing the girl clothes too long and forgot how to be a man. 😝Here she was taking blows from her father when she should have told him to hit harder.😝JinQi used this opportunity to get the father to agree to a mutual divorce with no one at fault. He presented two other scenarios that were far less appealing. Charging her with adultery, or her death and no burial in the ancestral home. After hearing that and seeing his daughter in disarrayed clothes he agreed to the divorce and low and behold JinQi had the thumb dye all ready for them. He left with document in hand to find his scholar friend while they sorted out their family issues. Lan Xiang told her friend to listen to her if she wanted to live…so next episode we will see what she did and whether or not it included the visiting scholar. Well that’s one way to get rid of an unwanted wife. 🤣 She even contributed nicely to make it happen. I am glad they are separated, they should have never been. The last thing these two families needed was each other. However, she was the one female that used her brain and did not want the men in her family to decide her fate. I am hoping the aftermath of this mess will have her on a path sans family. Then she might have a chance of success and happiness. She did not deserve that marriage any more than he did. What will really be interesting is how his family will react to this turn of events. His mother is going to be overjoyed but downplaying it and his father will probably find reason to complain and find fault.

Poor Jialan, always having to think how to save her life, and her friends lives too.Damn, the face Zhao Xingtang made when her lover blamed her for everything he started. Poor girl was devastated, you can tell her world collapsed. Bet she must have thought she was stupid to have put all her hopes on this coward she has a deep history with. She was risking it all and he just threw her away after a few hit she was trying to protect him from... tsk tsk tskKudos to Lin Jinqi, his plan was flawless.

The library scene was so intense... I felt every move Xingtang made to escape, and her anxiety rising with each path getting cut until there was nowhere to run. 🫣 But kudos to Jinqi for the clever trap to get out of the unwanted marriage! 👏But I don't blame Xingtang for being that bitter and having all her outbursts. She lived a bit of a miserable life. Yes, it wasn't a life-or-death struggle, but it was a different kind of misery. She was shackled by her own family, married off while loving another man—with them knowing about it and hiding it from the new husband—suffering a miscarriage and losing the ability to ever have children again, and in the end, her lover turning his back on her while she was protecting him. I have no idea what will happen to her life now. 😔However, I am super anxious about whether Xiaolian and Lanxiang will get caught or not. 😟😬

Episode 8: I will never forget what happened here.Hidden in the shadows, they didn't know they were rats ready to be caught in the web set for them. That decision Lin Jin Qi made in the previous episode, so emphatically told to his grandfather, about something that would be resolved without delay, came to pass. That man dressed as a woman, however strange the figure, could perhaps be a frustrated love waiting for its chance to happen. But the ending of this episode was more than pathetic for this clandestine couple. Choice: A useless death without the right to be buried in the family mausoleum, or a separation with the chance for another story to be built. "Lin Jin Qi, I will never forget what happened here." This tall man, with an elegant and calm profile, simply smiled calmly... like his tranquil, slow steps, like calculated beats in the library hunting his prey, but without running, without sweating, because as the clock ticked, everything would be resolved. As for our female lead, was that a look of compassion directed at her executioner-mistress? (Will Xiaotang give her maids a chance to escape? That look seemed to convey an apology before she entered the library. But perhaps it wasn't that; maybe it was a premonition.) And how will the girls get out of this predicament? We’ll find out in the next episode. Though, for those who saw the previews, the answer has already been revealed...

the plot's still CREEPING along tho, but every scene and dialogue feels extremely well thought out and distinctive.
