One of the best c-drama this 2025!!!
This drama caught me off by surprise. It's one of the best c-dramas I have watched this 2025. The plot, the depth of the characters, scenery and songs have all outdone a great performance with this drama. To all the producers, director, actors and actresses of this drama, thank you for making such a masterpiece. For those reading this comment, watch this drama because it will make you laugh, cry, and all other emotions that resonate how fate does not decide our future, but our actions in the present."When a tree is in front of a house, it is no longer just a house, but a home. When there is a home, there is love." — Mu Qingge/Xue Ranran and Su Yishui

10/10!
Love of the Divine Tree blew me away! The storyline was not that typical, offering a refreshing and emotionally layered narrative. Deng Wei’s performance was phenomenal—his character’s growth was portrayed with such depth and raw emotion that I was completely captivated by his journey. Julia Xiang was equally pleasing to watch, bringing charm and relatability to her role, making her character feel authentic and engaging. What I also loved was how the supporting cast wasn’t just there to fill space. Each character was well thought out and added genuine value to the story, contributing to the overall depth and emotional weight of the series. Every aspect of this drama was carefully crafted, making it an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

The best 2025 chinese drama so far
Already rewatched this drama 3 times. Never thought that it would be this good, but it became my favorite drama in 2025 so far.The story is fresh and well-written. The actings dan directing are very good. And most of the characters all adorable. This drama has a combination of romance, royal politics, hero's journey, and life acceptance.
Additionally, Deng Wei is super sexy in this drama. And this is alone can be the reason to rewatch this drama.

Touching Love Story - remarkable story and visual
ML & FL : Deng Wei (Su Yushui) is dazzling, green light ML, great acting, the hairdo is everything for him. Their chemistry is extra ordinary. Julia's smile amd laughter is so cheerfull. Most liked for Mu Gingge, captivating both of make up and costume. The ending is so perfect with impressive closing battle along story, lovely music matched with every part of drama. So far the best OST for xianxia drama.
Cant wait another drama.for Deng Wei and Julia Xiang.
So far Love of the divine tree is my favourite Xianxia drama after Ashes Of Love .

Nuanced Xianxia - best one in years
Love of the Divine Tree is Deng Wei's first ML role and a pretty traditional xianxia in story structure. The story devices aren't all that unfamiliar with rebirth, "saving the world", demons, amnesia, jealousy, etc. However, the details make it a gem in the genre, making it one of the best candidates for a rewatch in order to catch all the nuances of the story and acting. In particular, the pacing, and the set up for the characters and character development are the strongest I've seen in xianxia dramas. The contrast between the ML's cold, aloof, arrogant, "catty" character, with the FL's sunny, happy, warm personality made the couple very easy to root for. The acting can seem uneven if seen only in clips - however, DW's strength is in his strong understanding/empathy for his character in each scene and both actors come out pretty strong when seen in the grander story. Both actors are relatively new and don't necessarily have the experience of others in in the industry. However, both look very attractive and suit their roles very well. If nothing else, I think the sincerity of their efforts can be felt - they clearly enjoyed their roles, understood their characters, and wanted to make the best for them. The whole production actually feels very sincere - the screenwriter took care of many details to make a book with mediocre reviews into a nuanced cathartic story centered on regret and making amends; the director played with cgi with the best quality cgi in a cdrama I've seen so far; and the costumes are also beautiful in the many layers / fairy feeling they convey. All in all, I haven't enjoyed a xianxia like this for many years and am very grateful for the whole team to have put the production together. Was this review helpful to you?

★Started: Feb 7th and March 9th (The reason it took me so long to watch is because I literally had no time not because the drama itself is boring) ★
•┈••✦ ❤ ✦••┈•
Honestly speaking, it wasn’t the drama I was anticipating but it exceeded my expectations. I add up new dramas every month so it’s natural that I have lots of “plan to watch” dramas and it was one of them. I picked this up after Moonlight mystique as I had nothing to watch afterwards. At first, I was thinking that it’s an overused reincarnation, master and disciple relationship which I wasn’t wrong about, but the way they executed it was different. For example, it’s my first time seeing a character become a master of his own master.
Watching Love of the divine tree made me feel like as if I was in an adventure. Usually, many dramas focus on one problem till the end which makes it boring, but it wasn’t the case in this one. Whilst watching, I thought the main crisis or trouble we have to solve here is Su Yi Shui’s cultivation with ice lotus (emotionless mantra) that was preventing our main couple from being together, along with him being the demon’s child but there was a twist. I love how writer could keep the actual trouble for later. What I mean by that, is that throughout the story, the villain was well hidden even though they clearly gave hints. Wei Jiu and Su Yu were the people I suspected of being the main villain, but they were just a pawn.
I love how there was used the most annoying tropes (master-disciple, love triangle and an evil sister ones) but at the end it still was exciting to watch.
Romance was something I truly appreciated in LOTDT. I start to lose interest once main couple get together and it makes it feel like the storyline is not interesting enough to keep me there, but it was quite different here. They were kind of in love from the start and they had mutual love for each other for the rest of the drama, but I was engaged with story despite that because they were in a forbidden love situation. They had problems to solve before actually having a relationship and I think this is what made us reach out for more and more episodes. The romance was not just about the sweet scenes they gave us but also the way they understood and cared for each, especially the female lead. I love how they are not “all bark and no bite” when it comes to sacrifices, they are quite literally ready to die for each other and they both did die once for each other. (Lmao I can’t help but think of Su yi shui doing 360 to make sure she wasn’t injured). My favorite addition to their romance was how they both fell in love with each other again and again.
To sum it all up, I can say that it is a drama with pretty refreshing storyline with good plot twists. I’m not an investigator when it comes to watching stuff so as far as I know there were 2 plot twists that both surprised me honestly. I also want to talk about the cinematography and special effects and CGI which they spent all their money on to the point where they didn’t have money to advertise it. After all, I think it was worth it. Especially the first ever episode where they used some kind of animated drawing. The CGI’s (dragon, Ling xiao) were so good.

Characters & my impression
★Mu Qing Ge/ Xue Ran Ran★
Who says you cannot make a character that is cute but also strong and savage? She was the best character in this drama IMO. She was positive, kind, skilled and caring.
At the beginning, I had doubts that she is evil, and I turned out to be right.
When I saw her taking Su Yi Shui as her disciple, I knew from the start that she never wanted to kill him even if he became evil. After the reincarnation, she still stayed as bold and reckless as she was before. She was also the one who was able to keep her relationship with Su Yi Shui, no matter how he treated her because deep down she knew that despite all the harsh words, he was secretly and openly protecting her. Clearing up the miscommunications between them was also done by her. She is a good example of green forest FL. (This girl changed Su Yui Shi really quick, multiple times.). Her character was so well written that when she regained her memories fully, she became someone between Mu Qing Ge and Xue Ran Ran and I love how it’s well explained and the fact that she got to keep both of her characteristics. Voice actor made Mu Qing Ge and Xue Ran Ran sound different but also the same indicating that they are the same person and that was amazing
★Su yi shui★
He was some kind of a complex character but it’s understandable due to his background. Imagine being locked up in a room with a fierce beast for a long time. He was a red flag character at the start because of his childhood trauma. He was the character that had the greatest character development throughout this drama.
After Mu Qing Ge’s death, his character arc started. He repaid her kindness and faced his mistakes. Although he came out as a really cold and aloof character, he was there for Xue Ran Ran all the time. He might not be a good person, but he is the best lover. He didn’t like the things she liked before but eventually he started liking them and opened up just for her.
★Su Yu★
At the beginning, he seems like a character that is just there and doesn’t contribute to the plot, but I of course started suspecting him because there is no way he is just “there”. I was right. Although I have known that he would be somehow an evil character, the plot twist shocked me. His plan was well done. His backstory is really sad. He got betrayed by the person whom he saved. But what I didn’t like about him is that he was selfish. I was actually having 2nd male lead syndrome until I found out that Mu Qing Ge was also part of his plan. I think he understood his mistakes near the end because of Zhou Fei Hua. After all of that, I don’t feel good or bad about his sacrifice but just think that it was worth it. He was in this scheme from the start after all.
★Mu Ran Wu★
Here comes our FL’s sisters who claims that she doesn’t like her sister but insists on using her identity. She was right about fate being unfair to her, but she blamed her sister for it and that is where I don’t support her. I think her sister has done so many things just to keep them alive when they were kids. She was ungrateful. After all of her evildoings and being reborn with her sister’s power, she could have just let her go but of course her obsession with Su Yu made her to become an obstacle in Xue Ran Ran’s way again. She told Su Yu that he has to accept the fact that someone doesn’t like them and that they should cherish people around them. She doesn’t follow her own rules. I mean she now had the power that she has always wanted but she gained nothing from 2 lifetimes and made stupid mistakes. Despite the switch up of the roles, she was one who was still left out because she didn’t have character arc at all unlike most of the evil characters out there. At the ending it wasn’t clear how she ended up, but one thing I can hope is that the part of her life that wasn’t shown is the time where she gets a character development and revives her bond with Mu Qing Ge
★Wei Jui★
Funny side character! He is a character that wants to act like a villain but just a kind person deep down. He was an interesting character and the funniest third wheel. But his love life was a mess. Someone teach Wei Jui how to confess properly. He always said the exact opposite of the words he meant to say. Still, he was a decent character and I’m assuming that he confessed or apologized to Tu Jiu Yuan at the end. I was hoping to see more of them since Tu Jiu Yuan was pregnant but still glad to see those side characters survive.
★Other side characters★
Zeng Yi, Qiu Xi Er, Bai Bai Shan, Yan Liang Yu also played their part really well. Zeng Yi was a good disciple and a good friend to Su Yi Shui and the way he couldn’t say anything when he wanted to scold him every time was funny.
Qiu Xi er and Yan Lian Yu were another little side couple to keep it interesting. I like the Qiu Xi er’s ability to smell emotions. I think it added a little touch to the drama.
Bai Bai Shan taking Su Yi Shui’s position was kind of unexpected in the end, but I think he was worthy of it despite not being in the plot too much. He still proved his loyalty throughout the drama.
★Ending★
I'm just relieved that this drama got happy ending because first of all, they deserved it and second of not all the cdramas with similar genre get a happy ending. It ended perfectly without any side characters dying except for Su Yu. Our main couple finally get married, and we can also see them with their children. Just a little happy family. The ending could have been improved but it is good on its own. They could add the endings for characters like Mu Ran Wu, Wei Jui and Tu Jiu Yuan. Overall I can consider as a must watch 10 out of 10 drama

How lighthearted and refreshing!!
My personal tags/tldr: no annoying love triangles, a toooon of mutual pining, she falls first but he falls harder, she actively woos him, you get a love line and you also get a love line, 9/10 CGI I’m actually not cringing for once, yes amnesia but it’s actually well done for once (I couldn’t believe it either), no hate like sisterly love (ugh), a main relationship that actually feels healthy, getting jealous of yourself, yes master-disciple relationship but disciples are taken in at 17/18 (they aren’t raising them as kids but yes there's an age gap), “you are my guiding light in this terrible world” meets “I will sacrifice myself to save you,” nice bursts of angst, so sweet you’ll get diabetes, the stylists did a great job at clothing symbolism, the lead couple did a great job, some of the camera shots are so well done, did I mention how sweet the romance is? Finally a happy ending for once! How long has it been since a drama last captured my attention like this...? I just finished watching it and I had to write a review! I'm sorry in advance for the long essay, but I swear they spent so money on production, I feel like it doesn't get nearly enough love and promotion!
If you want straight up romance, hurry, come and watch this!! And I promise, he does actually deserve her and she'll fight tooth and nail for him to see it. I feel like his suffering redeems him, but you should watch and make your own opinion ;)
The story isn't as deep/mysterious as it could be, but it absolutely deserves a 10 overall! Goodness, it's so refreshing!! In a sea of xianxia and wuxia (which are my favorite genres), this stands out, seriously!!
If you are like me, these are the following reasons you'll enjoy it:
1. SO MUCH PINING. Like, expect to get so much beautiful pining from BOTH leads! But mostly the male lead in the beginning. It just feels like they're putting in an equal amount of effort into their love. Like they truly deserve each other and you're rooting for their love every moment. I haven't enjoyed a ML's suffering as much since Ten Miles w/Ye Hua~ But I like this more because it's self-inflicted :)
2. The second ML is bearable but not likable enough to make you root for him. MQG/XRR is firm in her choice of SYS. I have very little patience for love triangles, so this was welcomed to me. I think Su Yu got it off pretty easy in the end tbh.
3. MQG/XRR! Her past self as Mu Qingge is refreshingly straightforward and playful while still having a just and kind heart. Xiang Hanzhi truly did a great job with this role! It feels so right with her as the FMC, she's got this natural carefree aura without being too distant, and she draws you in with her earnest smiles. People have mentioned that her reincarnation isn't as tough as her past self, but I don't think that lessens how impressive she is. You know how it can take ten episodes for a FMC to realize the ML's coldness is just hiding his feelings for her? But here, she gets it within 3 episodes of meeting him! She's strong, but not OP. BUT I will say, if you want a revenge storyline, you won't get it. I'm not lying when I say this is romance heavy.
4. I'm a shallow woman. I see a beautiful man, I will watch lol. The ML is... stunningly beautiful (I really think he could win 1st place for best looking ML w/white hair). Deng Wei’s acting really improved here. He did a great job portraying the guilt hidden behind his stoniness and his lovey-dovey eyes made me swoon as he flirted with MQG/XRR. I loved watching him crumble over her cuteness from him being in pain to then fully accepting her love~ His love for her is so pure and within the first 6 episodes you understand why he fell for her. Definitely one of his best works!
5. So much SUGAR!!!! It’s so sweet you’ll die just to be revived to watch more sweet moments between the leads. For once, I’ve found a drama with chemistry that actually made me blush! How the heck did SYS get away with some of those lines lol! It feels so refreshing how openly in love they are and the lengths they'll go for each is incredibly romantic.
6. Music and fighting was enjoyable. I'm off to save some of the songs to reminisce to later (btw how does Liu Yuning have such a sweet song, Circle of Fate, but he stars in so many BE dramas :')). I think they really did great with their CGI and wire-work! I've seen so much bad CGI but my tolerance is still so low, so this was a blessing to my eyes. I vote Little Bai as the cutest Divine White Tiger I've seen. The CGI isn't perfect, you'll still notice something's a little wonky, but I promise you, this is actually some of the higher quality CGI in the industry (especially w/the animals, iykyk). Fighting is typical xianxia style but still is enjoyable.
There are some cons though. No one really gets that badly punished? Like I've seen wayyy worse fates in other xianxia dramas. Also, some CPs came out of no where. Look under your seat, you might have a love interest waiting for you to notice - that's how sudden they would happen. But again, I'd say romance is the strongest tag of this drama.
Watch and swoon as two lovely people fall in love~ I'm gonna go use SYS's line w/the mirror on my partner now lol.

Kissing scenes made it more special
Okay, but aren’t they the sweetest? The ML knows how to flirt and get what she wants. They did have an amazing chemistry and it shows too from the BTS (extra episodes). They didnt really shy from their feelings at all and you will enjoy their kissing scenes. Fighting scenes were really good. I can tell you that it was entertaining. You will enjoy the storyline and how some things unfolds.
All I can say is that their love was really strong and no-one could break it. Now for the “Wei Jiu” oh lord, he gave his comedic scenes. Guy is so in love, he doesn’t know how to act LOL.
Yes, you are in for a very very HAPPY ENDING!!!! I am very pleased with their progress in life.

Great job on almost everything in this drama: great leads, interesting storylines, fun characters
*No major, specific spoilers. Only vague, broad points!*This is likely one of the best dramas of 2025, maybe even one of the best in the past few years. Ever since China limited dramas to only 40 episodes back in like 2023(?), dramas have struggled to feel coherent all the way through. This drama truly pulls together all the threads, brings all the characters, to the end. It is quite the feat.
The highlight of the drama is the main leads. The master-disciple dynamic that gets switched later on makes everything more fun and hilarious and tragic.
Mu Qingge is talented cultivator who can essentially ascend to become immortal, but chooses not to because she loves life too much. She seeks someone who can inherit her skills and comes across Su Yishui, who has the same kind of "root/core" as she does. So, she forcibly takes him to be her disciple. This sounds really evil, but Su Yishui, actually, isn't a damsel-in-distress. He's an illegitimate prince who works for his Prince Father and harbors his own bad intentions and goals. He fights Mu Qingge every step of the way. Mu Qingge allows him to do so and even gives him a chance to leave if he can kill her. He tries, he really does, but he's not strong enough. So he reluctantly becomes her disciple.
Thus, their destines were tied together, with Mu Qingge thwarting Su Yishui's destined path and then Su Yishui will also change her death ending by bringing her back. He ends up becoming the "master" when she is revived with no memories of their past connection and became Xue Ranran.
They are truly that couple that will sacrifice themselves to save the other. It's great and it's tragic. Their romance is well developed with many memorable scenes. Despite some other characters who might try to get in their relationship, they are pretty much committed/obsessed with each other only, so it's never a true threat (but makes Su Yishui full of jealousy, lol). And Deng Wei is the standout in this drama, with his ability to act out soft or vengeful characteristics. He looked great on screen, too. For Julia Xiang, I had never seen her in a drama before so it was refreshing to see her as the female lead. I think she did a great job and balanced the two different personalities of Mu Qingge and Xue Ranran. She also has the brightest smile. I loved her!
The supporting characters are fun or interesting, which is great even if they don't have huge character growth. Some do, but for the most part, they are there to support the main characters.
For Su Yu, one of the antagonists and someone who is in love with Mu Qingge: He can be infuriating since he annoys Su Yishui, but I quite liked his character. He's flawed, he can be cruel and selfish, but I think his behavior is fitting of a royal crown prince. He has to do what he has to do while also being aware of tricks and lies. He has a character development that is quite intense and interesting and pitiful.
And, this is against popular opinion, but I also enjoyed Mu Ranwu's character. Mu Ranwu was the younger sister of Mu Qingge who started hopeful and sweet, but became obsessed and vengeful. Thankfully, she's not in love with Su Yishui, but Su Yu. I loved hating her, and I also understood her to some extent. I wished the storyline had given her a bit more character growth and reflection, but I'm also okay with how her character turned out. She was murderous and obsessive and harmed many people, but she was also desperate, scared and pathetic and fighting for herself even if it means going about it in immoral ways. She was a pitiful character.
Wei Jiu was quite a scary character in the beginning as an antagonist, but became quite fun--like a frenemy--and I deeply enjoyed his dynamic with Tu Jiuyuan, his sect sister (NOT blood sister).
I think my ONE thing to criticize about this show is that sometimes it feels like there are a lot of "convenient" solutions to some problems...it doesn't ruin the show, but it does feel a little too easy sometimes. Overall, plot is still pretty solid.
Overall: You'll enjoy this if you like the main leads! Their romance is fun and they sacrifice themselves for one another A LOT. There'll be a couple of "annoying" characters who show up, but it doesn't dampen the overall enjoyment of the leads and the story.

Dense, complex Xianxia with all the trappings of the genre
PLOT: Two princes fight to seize the throne of the dying emperor. Simultaneously, several powerful sects coexist, with hidden conflicts.1st arc [eps. 1-7]: 10 years earlier, the LF, a powerful, nonconformist warrior, welcomed the ML into her sect. He is the Prince Ping's son "trained" to become the next Demon Lord (and serve his father). The LF (Qing Ge) does everything to prevent Yi Shui (the ML) from taking the demonic path, but it's complicated. She then decides to take the demonic power in her body and sacrifice herself.
2nd arc [eps. 8-21]: Qing Ge (now Ran Ran) is reborn too early from the tree of reincarnation. Yi Shui takes her on as an apprentice to remove the chain of heart that binds her to her evil sister, Ran Wu. Ran Wu is reborn in turn and decides to pretend to be Qing Ge, whom she has always been jealous of.
3rd Arc [22 to 30]: Ran Ran and Yi Shui work together and become a couple.
4th Arc [31 to 40]: Return of the Great Villain, powering up to the great final battle.
