An epic xianxia drama with the most beautiful romantic story at its core
Where do I even start with this beautiful drama? The musical score—perfect. The characters—amazing. The story—sublime. The dialogue—out of this world. The romance—chef’s kiss! You guys, I have been an MDL lurker for the longest time, and I’ve seen so many reviews where people say they literally had to create an account just to leave a review. For the very first time, I actually understand that feeling.
I’m writing this review with tears in my eyes because I can literally see several scenes flashing through my brain. Having followed this drama from the very first episode, I can say for sure that it is worth every minute you spend watching it.
I loved the romance and the different themes that were explored. It all came together in such a beautiful cocktail. And while they could have simply left it as a straightforward, star-crossed romance, we got to see so many different angles of love—not just romantic love, but familial love, and even the effects of obsession on a human being.
You guys, if I go on, I’ll end up dropping spoilers, and I absolutely do not want to do that. So please, just watch this drama! This is definitely one of the best xianxia dramas I’ve seen in a hot minute, and I know I’ll always recommend it. The two leads are now officially my top favorite actors!

Don't miss it!!!!
A good romantic story with loads of cutesy shenanigans by the leads, especially fl.It's a fine mix of romance, comedy and action xianxia.
The best thing is leads get maximum screen time and it's quite an enjoyable watch.
Every other romcom, the romcom part may be 30% top 40%, but this one is straight 90% with romance and comedy sharing equal halves on a well woven evil scheming plot.
And the plot is way too good, which gets you going.
And the plot twist is something you never expect which is only revealed at 30 plus.
And i repeat, you never expect it because ,even E 30 gives you a satisfactory finish with some plot holes . They will be explained in last 10 episodes connecting all the dots and pieces you see in 1st 30 episodes.
Each and everything was well crafted by a single evil mastermind and that is someone you know, is something you never expect.
It hurts each and evey time to see ml with his unrequited love for first 20 plus ep.
As for love triangle, it's purely one sided and i assure you, you won't get the threat of it, because our leads are strong and they share more screen time.
For me, i pitied him, bcoz in anyother dramas ml and 2nd ml "scenarios" will be reversed.
Poor 2nd ml betrayed and broken and alone.
He loved the wrong girl.

A rollercoaster of good and bad
The plot wasn't for me. There's this common issue with Cdramas where the beginning doesn't match the middle and the end of the story. We are first introduced to smart characters that make you want to give it a chance then halfway through they become the dumbest characters, most esp once the romance becomes official. Reasons unknown but it's a common trope to build a good reputation for our leads at the start of the story only to nerf them and make them so unlike what we were initially introduced to.Perhaps, for the plot twists which don't end up being a surprise for viewers anyways since we predict the stories in the exact ways they go. Terrible writing for me, I was annoyed midway and the annoyance only eased when they took a break from the plot to focus on their romance again as buffer, but returned anew once the plot picked up. I watch shows to relax and escape the real world not to do the thinking for fictional characters. For characters so smart they made the stupidest mistakes;
MQG's return to the story was almost pointless, she shouldn’t have gotten her memories back, there was no point to it. She was no longer MQG and purely XRR who is apparently supposed to be in her early twenties but still had the same persona from her teenage self, no character development, no maturity. The side characters were too bland, no story, no message, no point, they were iust there to make the cast list. The character who went through the most development in this story was SYS, which became conflicting at some point because he's supposed to be smart but critical thinking failed as well. How convenient the writers needed it to be for the plot to fall into place except it didn't, yet somehow this is hyped as the best Xianxia of 2025? The bar is in hell.
The plot was messy, story very inaccurate, the characters conflicting as we cannot even tell who they are from the continuous changes made to them. They should have left MQG and XRR as separate people if they were going to make one personality disappear to keep the other. This could have been 24 episodes at most, the dragging was unnecessary. There was nothing to see here. The actors were fantastic though, they did their jobs.

if u want to pass the time and watch something genuine
Overall I grow attachment in this drama;( I really love the story, the characters, the cute scenes, the way how loyalty is being portrayed for someone they love and cared about is so beautiful. Mu ranwu character might be annoying but she represents the people who don't know how to manage their insecurity and inferiority. It represents our darkest part as a person where we get blind in our reality and failed to see that they were people who genuinely cares for us even we're not that great as others. Same with Su Yu, he and Feihua could have a great couple. We Jiu and Elder Tu arc were so cute, it's really funny to see We Jiu holding back his feelings even though he deeply cared for Elder Tu, and how Elder Tu is such a woman with integrity and self-respect, won't give in easily until We Jiu known for his arrogance begged on his knees just gor her to comeback. The 3 disciples of Wester Sect is also admirable, the way they cooperate and just go all in despite the idea that there power is not the same as their seniors they fight all in. I know it's just a drama but to be in their shoe and to have that kind of courage to save the world is amazing. I guess immersed myself in the drama too much. And of course for our main lead, their scene is really cheesy haha but I love the jealous and angry SYS, and especially when RR finally regain her memories as MQQ, I just found it cute when they are both angry and bickering at each other yet it's just a pure argument bcz at the end of it they are still helping each other in defeating their enemies. For me their love is beautiful, they both can't lose each other, they learn from their mistakes, unlike from the past where they never communicate about their plans which ended up tragically, this time they plan, solve, communicate, and fight it together. That's why our couple made it both alive til the end and even living a peaceful life with 3 babies and counting. HAHAHA RR life as a mother is really so admirable may we also find our own SYS who will treat us like that. Again Idk if I can move on from this tandem😭Was this review helpful to you?

A Must Watch For the Story, the Action scenes, acting and CGI.
WARNING- SPOILERS AHEAD. I feel very compelled to write a review for this drama, which has completely taken me by surprise, as I am not a fan of either lead. Previously, I did not have a great impression of Deng Wei, as two of the characters he played (in The Till the End of the Moon and Lost You Forever) did not give him the opportunity to showcase his range, or due to bad editing, made his characters unlikable. But "Love of the Divine Tree" is different, and the story deeply moved me. It’s one of the xianxia dramas I would place in my top 5 xianxia genre list, alongside Love and Redemption, Love Between Fairy and Devil, Ashes of Love, and Eternal Love. It’s an emotional odyssey that leaves an indelible mark on your soul.
From the very first episode, it captivates with its tight, purposeful storytelling. There’s a clear message the script, the director, and the story want to convey—it’s not just another love story. It refuses to waste a single moment on unnecessary filler scenes or aimless montages (unlike some dramas that linger on characters walking around wistfully, cough Immortal Samsara cough). Every scene, every line of dialogue, and every interaction serves a purpose, weaving together a narrative that is as compelling as it is profound.
What truly sets this drama apart is its message of empowerment: you can create your own destiny. It teaches us that fate does not have to define our lives. Instead, we have the power to defy it, change it, and live the life we truly want. This theme resonates deeply throughout the story, as the characters constantly challenge their predetermined paths and fight for the futures they desire.
At the heart of the drama is the master-disciple relationship between the leads, which is anything but one-dimensional. It’s a dynamic interplay of roles that constantly evolves, with power and vulnerability shifting between them in a way that feels authentic and deeply moving. The relationship isn’t just about one person guiding the other; it’s a two-way street of growth, sacrifice, and mutual understanding. The role reversals are executed flawlessly, making their bond one of the most nuanced and emotionally resonant I’ve ever seen in a drama.
The acting in this drama is nothing short of extraordinary. Deng Wei, in particular, delivers a standout performance. His character, Su Yi Shui, is a man burdened by guilt and haunted by the past. He secretly protects his sifu (master) in every possible way, yet he maintains a cool exterior, refusing to betray his emotions. His love for her is undeniable, but he cannot afford to let her get close to him again in this lifetime. The guilt of her death in their previous life consumes him. Deng Wei portrays this internal conflict with such depth and subtlety that you can feel the weight of his guilt, his longing, and his quiet resolve to protect her at all costs. It’s a performance that stays with you long after the screen fades to black. He is not a perfect person and doesn’t mind resorting to unconventional ways to get what he wants.
And then there’s Julia Xiang, who shines brilliantly in her dual roles as the badass Mu Qing Ge and the innocent, loving Xue Ran Ran. She effortlessly embodies both characters, making it abundantly clear that they are two sides of the same coin—Mu Qing Ge being the hardened, experienced version of Xue Ran Ran, shaped by the trials of the world. Her portrayal is so nuanced that you can see the echoes of Xue Ran Ran in Mu Qing Ge’s strength and the shadow of Mu Qing Ge in Xue Ran Ran’s innocence. What I love most is that the female lead is never a damsel in distress. Even in her rebirth as Xue Ran Ran, she remains bright, smart, and fiercely independent. Throughout the drama, she is never dumbed down to let the male lead rescue her. Instead, she stands as his equal—strong, capable, and able to hold her own. It’s a refreshing and empowering portrayal that adds depth to her character and their relationship.
The drama is filled with memorable scenes that tug at your heartstrings and linger in your mind. One such moment is the beautiful battle in the river between a young Su Yi Shui and Mu Qing Ge. The choreography is exquisite, and the scene is as visually stunning as it is poignant. Another unforgettable moment is when Su Yi Shui returns to the Western Sect, and Mu Qing Ge orders the lanterns to be left on so her "prideful" disciple can find his way home and feel like he belongs. It’s a small gesture, but it speaks volumes about their bond and her unwavering care for him. This act later becomes a symbol of their love and the key to breaking through Yi Shui’s guilt-ridden belief that he caused the death of his sifu.
Then there’s the heart-wrenching scene where Mu Qing Ge sacrifices herself, and Su Yi Shui breaks down in tears, consumed by regret and guilt. It’s a raw, emotional moment that showcases the weight of his remorse. But perhaps the most powerful scene is when Mu Qing Ge attempts to purify the demon lord possessing Su Yi Shui. Just as the demon lord is about to take complete control, Su Yi Shui’s consciousness fights back, overcoming the possession through sheer willpower. Even after the demon lord is exorcised, Su Yi Shui chooses to destroy his golden core, ensuring that he ends his own life so he can never be used as a pawn to hurt his beloved again. This act of ultimate sacrifice lays bare the depth of his love for her. It’s a moment that is both devastating and profoundly moving.
And who could forget the wedding scene? It’s a moment of pure joy and beauty, reminiscent of the iconic wedding in Love and Redemption. The happiness radiating from the couple is palpable, and it’s a well-deserved reward for everything they’ve endured. The scene also includes the playful, foxy thoughts Yi Shui harbors about their wedding night, adding a touch of lightness to their journey.
What I love most about this drama is how it balances emotional depth with action and intrigue. It’s a story about love—love that is selfless, transformative, and deeply human.
In a sea of dramas that often rely on clichés and filler content, "Love of the Divine Tree" stands out as a shining example of what storytelling can achieve when it’s done with heart, passion, and a deep understanding of its characters. If you’re looking for a drama that will make you laugh, cry, and reflect on life’s lessons, "Love of the Divine Tree" is an absolute must-watch. It’s a masterpiece that deserves all the praise and more.

what a journey!!!!!!
well...... this is the first time i make a review and well this is nice........ i love the ending, the beginning, the journey, the friends they made along the way, this certainly one of a kind dramathe development of our female lead from Mu Qingge to Xue Ranran is so satisfying........she matured and kinda gain something and also kinda perfecting herself in a way thats perfect.... the old Mu Qingge, she would just protected people she loved behind them, not letting them know that she protected them. this blossomed into Xue Ranran that is very straight forward and letting people that she love know she will protect them, as she said if only the take that one step everything will be different, though that one step is the hardest....... Mu Qingge couldn't take that one step meanwhile, she, Xue Ranran can and took that one step.
for our Male Lead, Su Yishui, he blossomed from a young man that was controlled his whole life by other people, to a man that control his own life as he likes aaaaand maybe controlled other people lives too........ he who once didn't understand kindness, how to be kind, and always look at other people dark nature become a man that completely understood kindness, kind to others, trusting and protect the innocence. that's my take..... anyway this drama is very nice, and I emphasize the ending is a chef kiss...........

A good story will not be enough without a good execution, and Julia Xiang and Deng Wei did it flawlessly. I love love love love the way Julia plays her character! She clearly draws a line that separates Mu Qingge and Xue Ranran, and you can see on screen that both of them are different characters, despite being played by the same person. The microexpressions, mannerisms, body language, the aura in which she carries herself, the tone and the timbre of her voice, you can see where she becomes Mu Qingge, where she becomes Xue Ranran, and where she slowly morphs into a combination of the both of them. It's like watching an art performance coming to life. Also she's like super pretty! If you're into Kdramas, her Mu Qingge reminds me of Queen Seondeok's Mishil, and I love it even more then.
I'm not exactly into male actors but Deng Wei is really good at yearning on screen, and he's really pretty too. His chemistry with Mu Qingge is really entertaining to watch, like watching her tame a rabid dog into an obsessive, clingy puppy (in a good way). He's good at romantic scenes too, and I'm relieved that they did not do the kiss scenes like a dead-fish shot...
The supporting characters are all so powerful, I feel like without them the story won't be quite as alive as it is. Every arcs are done so well, all the chemistries are pleasing to the eye to see, and I see quite a lot of familiar faces, too.
Also I love how tropey they are yet they didn't feed into the tropey boxes, and it didn't have any nonsense, no-brainer acrs whatsoever, and I feel like they didn't have filler scenes? Like everything is crucial and important to the story, and the pacing is really well-done, too.
The sets are magnificent, the colors palettes paints the scenes just how I like it, the camera takes and how the scenes pans out are really beautiful. I love how the CGI didn't look weird or anything, and I love how homey their sect feels (there are lots of sect scenes too, love it!), I like watching their studying arcs, watching them doing mundane tasks like cooking, training, doing side quests, those kind of scenes have a soft spot in my heart.
That being said, I haven't been this hooked to a drama since last year? And this one is definitely worth to watch.
If you're a newbie to Chinese drama, or a seasoned watchers, I think you'll going to like it.

Best drama of the year
Pro: This has to the best one I’ve watch this year. Seriously got me into it. The chemistry is just awesome. I love that live was there the whole time. It’s like no matter what there’s no misunderstandings and always one knew they loved the other. The side love stories were great. The villains were also unpredictable and not just an easy guess. The ending was awesome and was almost a full episode versus other shows where it is only the last 15 mins.Cons: I can see the whole forgetting thing could be a bit repetitive and long but other than that it was great I enjoyed the vice versa and little twist they had.

The Drama that Finally Made Me Write a Review
I never really had the chance to write a review for cdramas I’ve watched before though I almost did for ALP I just never got around to it especially since the ending didn’t quite sit well with me.But anyway for Love of the Divine Tree, this goes beyond my usual love for a series. That’s why I’m finally writing this review. They did such a good job building up Yu Shui’s character. Showed us clearly where his deep hatred comes from...how he was treated by everyone esp his own parents. His angst made so much sense.
I also loved the character development of both leads and how their love arc slowly unfolded. Almost every episode had meaningful details that I just couldn’t skip...I wanted to savor every moment even the scenes with supporting characters. I’ve been binge-watching this series from start to finish. Some might say there were episodes that could’ve been cut tbh I loved them all. The other characters helped highlight just how vast Yi Shui’s love for Ranran/Qingge is. And to think he had no idea his love was even reciprocated until the later episodes...
If there's one thing I would have wanted them to do is... I wish they had extended the part where they both regained their memories. That part felt a bit rushed because of Ye Xin. But still it was such a great watch. The CGI was impressive, the sword-fighting scenes were top tier! I especially loved that Mu Qingge had a signature fight move! That was such a charming touch and the fact that she was able to teach it to Yi Shui! That was epic for me.
The romance, the angst, the emotional payoff...it was all there. And I love how they wrapped things up nicely, unlike many other cdramas I’ve seen. It was truly a great series. Thank you for creating something so epic. I would love to rewatch this again and again.

Rare Xianxia Treat
This is a fantasy romance drama with gorgeous visuals, breathtaking leads, and a rare sort of ending that satisfies.
Deng Wei absolutely steals the show as Su Yi Shui - his
ethereal beauty, combined with his ability to convey deep emotions through the smallest raises in eyebrows, pretty tears and hidden smiles, makes his performance both mesmerizing and heartbreaking. There’s a certain elegance in the way he moves, from his sword fights to the way he simply looks at the female lead, and honestly, it’s hard to take your eyes off him. The man was made for Xianxia and long, flowing robes.
His co-star, Xiang Han Zhi, is adorable as the reincarnated Xue Ran Ran. She brings an infectious charm to the role, balancing playful mischief with hints of her past life’s wisdom. While she could do with more gravitas needed for her Shifu role , she nails the cute and lively side of the character, making her a perfect contrast to Deng Wei’s brooding elegance. Their romance is sweet and true, and watching their relationship evolve, especially in eps31-34 which were corny, was both hilarious and entertaining .
And that ending—finally, a Xianxia drama that doesn’t
leave us in emotional ruins! Instead of the typically
tragic fate, we get a deeply satisfying conclusion that
actually rewards the characters (and the audience!) for
their trials and tribulations. Deng Wei’s character also
took an amusing turn for one of the cardinal sins took
centre stage. For a person who waited two lifetimes for his love to come true, we must understand his needs. The playful conversations are full of innuendos and tells us what’s been happening in his dreams. The boy disciple has definitely grown into a hot blooded man.
The mix of romance, fantasy, and action keeps things engaging, and while some CGI moments could have been better, the overall production is a visual treat.
If you love a beautifully shot drama with a stunning cast, heartfelt romance, and a lead actor who looks like he stepped out of a dream, Love of the Divine Tree is definitely one to check out.

Something new, something great
Tbh I didn't want to watch it, but then I did and rest is history.Do you want a story without cliches? Are you tired of the old angsty xianxias? Are you tired of crappy CGI and fight scenes (This had marvel level CGI)? Are you annoyed by couples who never confess? Are you tired of old misunderstandings due to birth? Are you tired of overpowered characters and weak story lines? Are you tired of those last episodes with a final scene of 2sec? Do you want something good, something fresh, something amasingly different, amazingly charming and amazingly masterpiece? Then this is the place. If I lied, you can have my house. I bet this is one of the best c-dramas of 2025.
