Smile Code Review: Overhyped and Overlong
Smile Code was actually the worst drama I’ve watched this year; it’s mind-numbing, and I really don’t understand the hype around it. I checked it out because Lin Yi and Shen Yue were in it, and their acting wasn’t the problem—the story was. To start, LDW is an actual ass, and I would not give this man a redemption arc like GY did. Yes, he does have alexithymia, but he was genuinely such a bad friend at the start, and it felt like he just passed off all his bad behavior onto his disorder. The entire drama honestly feels a bit all over the place, and I didn’t really enjoy it as it dragged on. It’s filled with lots of monologues and issues that could really be solved with a conversation. Even when LDW was recovering, I still felt that a relationship between GY and him was really not what he needed. The side couples were pretty good, and I didn’t mind their side stories. It genuinely baffles me how this got so many 10/10 reviews, and I would say Smile Code is definitely a pass—6/10.Was this review helpful to you?
MUST WATCH DRAMA OF 2024!
Aside from the superb acting of all the casts, the cinematography and the music of this drama are top tier. I've never seen this kind of cinematography in a modern cdrama; hands down to director Randy Che and to the production staff. Also, Shen Yue and Lin Yi's acting are top tier, I especially like Shen Yue's crying scene, it was part of the trailer, but I've never prepared myself for something so heart wrenching scene from Shen Yue. Another Me might be Shen Yue's most complicated role, but Gu Yi is the character she portrayed the best. Lin Yi on the other hand also improved a lot in his acting. All the success of this drama are because of the consistent hard work from everyone.Was this review helpful to you?
Love, family, friends and work
I love this drama so much. Shenyue and Linyi have strong chemistry in this drama. The storyline is so touching, especially Guyi with her mother. Love in the drama is so passionate and emotional. The ost and the colour of each scene are absolutely amazing. Must praise the actor and actress.I can’t forget many scenes between Guyi and Liangdaiwen especially in the house, the way they both live as a roommate but express their feelings is amazing like pulling strings in my heart. The hug, the stares into eyes showing support to each other shows how they really care and love each other. This is an ideal way in a relationship.Was this review helpful to you?

Just magnificent: a cute, but deep series (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)
Very cute series (but far from being sappy) with Lin Yi & Shen Yue as CL.PLOT: Meeting between the FL, editor, cheerful, optimistic, who does talk shows as a hobby, and the ML, designer, suffering from alexithymia (autistic spectrum, linked to trauma). He comes to attend her talk shows, but does not react at all. He helps her, takes her in, and they gradually fall in love. Despite the help of their friends, the difficulties are multiple: disability, love rivals, trauma, etc.
+++ Lin Yi is absolutely breathtaking ♡o｡.(✿ฺ｡ ✿ฺ) in this difficult role (but he had already demonstrated the extent of his talent and his involvement with disabled people in "Angels fall sometimes" ) and Shen Yue, adorable, more beautiful (mature) and moving.
+++ The cast is excellent, with actors giving life to endearing, complex, well-developed characters. The most striking character is the FL's mother (ღ˘⌣˘ღ).
+++ Friendship is also well highlighted in this series (especially the sincere friendship with Yu Du).
+++ The execution is perfect!! Rhythm, framing, lights, slow motion, great OSTs,...
+++ The series talks about deep themes: disability (visible or not), depression, suffering, suicide, mourning, the condition of life for women, etc.
+++ The storyline is more or less realistic and well constructed.
### Some inconsistencies, however: the character of the psychologist is not professional or serious (remarks or advice, totally inappropriate). Some of FL's behaviors are not consistent. The character of the ML's assistant, barely recruited, who advises and tries to seduce him, is totally out of place.
### Some viewers praise ML2, but for me, he's a red flag, I find his insistence close to harassment.
### I know fashion in China is different from Europe, but FL's outfits and shoes are particularly hideous (☆_@) Which designer did they want to feature??
=> Very beautiful series, moving and full of humanity... To watch again and again.

Série très cute (mais loin d'être "à l'eau de rose") avec Lin Yi & Shen Yue en CL (2 acteurs que j'aime beaucoup)
PLOT: Rencontre entre la FL, éditrice, enjouée, optimiste, qui fait du talk-show en loisirs, et le ML, designer, souffrant d'alexithymie (spectre autistique, lié à un trauma). Il vient assister à ses talk-shows, mais ne réagit pas. Il lui vient en aide, l'héberge, et ils vont peu à peu tomber amoureux. Malgré l'aide de leurs amis, les difficultés sont multiples : handicap, rivaux amoureux, traumas, etc.
+++ Lin Yi est absolument époustouflant ♡o｡.(✿ฺ｡ ✿ฺ) dans ce rôle difficile (mais il avait déjà démontré l'ampleur de son talent et son implication par rapport aux personnes handicapées dans ",Angels fall sometimes") et Shen Yue, adorable, plus belle (mature) et émouvante.
+++ Le cast est excellent, avec des acteurs donnant vie à des personnages attachants, complexes, bien développés. Le personnage le plus marquant est celui de la mère (ღ˘⌣˘ღ).
+++ L'amitié est aussi bien mise en valeur dans cette série (notamment l'amitié sincère avec Yu Du).
+++ La réalis° est parfaite !! Rythme, cadrages, lumières, ralentis, OST,...
+++ La série aborde des thèmes profonds : le handicap (visible ou non), la dépression, la souffrance, le suicide, le deuil, la condition des femmes, etc.
+++ La storyline est à peu près réaliste et bien construite.
### Quelques incohérences cependant : le personnage du psychologue n'est pas professionnel ni sérieux (remarques ou conseils, totalement déplacés). Les retournements de comportement de la FL ne sont pas cohérents. Le personnage de l'assistante du ML, à peine recrutée, qui conseille et essaie de séduire, est totalement out-of-the-place.
### Certains viewers encensent le ML2, mais personnellement, je trouve son insistance proche du harcèlement.
### Je sais que la mode en Chine est différente de l'Europe, mais les tenues et les chaussures de la FL sont particulièrement hideuses (☆_@) Quel designer ont-ils voulu mettre en valeur ??
=> Très belle série, émouvante et pleine d'humanité ... A voir et revoir.

My Favorite Drama 2024
The female lead’s acting is outstanding, bringing her character to life in a way that feels so real and relatable. She perfectly captures the emotional depth of her role, making it easy to connect with her journey and feel invested in her story. The chemistry between Shen Yue and Lin Yi really stands out. Shen Yue's lively, comedic portrayal of Gu Yi contrasts nicely with Lin Yi's reserved character, Liang Daiwen, creating an engaging dynamic. The drama's exploration of the daily struggles of young generation. I'm a big fan of Shen Yue and that's the reason I was excited to watch Smile Code. Please don't stop watching Smile Code too early because If you leave early you will miss some absolutely amazing moments and storylines! I rewatching almost 10x times now.. I can't move on..Their love story is impossible to describe. They are sooo adorable and cute. If you haven't watched it yet, don't hesitate and go watch it. I had butterflies in my stomach every time I saw each of their episodes. Unquestionably, this is a must-see drama of the year. Linyi also ask to watch again this year, and ask we to dreaming to chase a star together. Lets go watch again the best drama ever!!! I also want Shen yue to act drama like Autumn in my heart.. Magnum Opus of Lin Yi's
Need to take a break from chapter 5 so i can emulate my emotion clearly.What I like about this drama is that it has a very clear theme and you can see the conflict from a far, but the main protagonists cant avoid it anyway, bcs of feelings and whatnot. There is no nonsense plot, everyone serve for a reason.
I love how the male lead do everything for the female lead out of chivalry in deadpan manner, like bringing her bag, paying for her meal and snack, and he did it without expecting anything back. Its like he is doing a bare minimum and every man should take his attitude as example!
Also as someone whos interested in stand up comedy i love how real the female.lead was portrayed. How she has good open mic, writing down jokes material whenevet and wherever, when she bombed the stage, its so well-researched.
Also i loveee how they make this such an adult and healthy relationship between two people. Lin Yi's dramas never fail to amaze me, really. Also the kisses! my god. How i love adult kisses. Adult kisses are good. The cure traumas and cancer.
The cinematography are divine, there are a lot of amazing placements and blockings. My favorite is when the appearance of Mr. He bringing something that is relevant to the plot of the drama. The way he appeared was so logical, gut-wrenching and very sorrowful.

I rewatched the last half of the series because it’s that good. The emotions, the acting, the story, the actors themselves, they did great, as in really great. I cried a lot, smiled a lot and had realizations a lot through watching this. Finish the drama first and then get back to me if it’s still a waste of time on your side.

Shen yue amazing acting great drama
Shen yue as GuYi is life. She is such a great actress and next to LinYi them acting together is the best. They deserve way more promotion than what they got. Shen yue you got so many international fans that love you still waiting on comic bang people hating on her work is so disappointing she’s such a great human being she deserves to be way more famous hope to see her in way more dramas than what they give her she might not be as liked in china which I don’t understand either compared toOther Chinese actresses because she’s so beautiful she outstands so much I personally think she’s one of the most natural and beautiful actresses but she has way more fans and it’s known way more outside of china that some people don’t understand she’s well known internationally not like other actresses that are only known in china 🤷🏻♀️

QUE QUÍMICA!
Estou amando assistir a esse c-drama e todos os dias fico ansiando pelos próximos episódios. É uma história que prende a gente de um jeito que nem percebo os minutos passar, me fazendo ficar esperando pela continuação o mais rápido possível. Se já tivessem liberado todos os episódios completos, assistiria a esse dorama num único dia com toda certeza. A química entre os protagonistas é simplesmente incrível. A good idol drama. Enggaging story, i like that conflict presented well without being too dramatic, and continue to get better in next episode, pacing is good, good cinematoghraphy though the picture bit hazy on earlier episode but its slowly changes and i think is intentional so applause to the director for the detail, nice ost and bgm, and relatable characters.
