Love in the Clouds: Where Hidden Identities Lead to Genuine Hearts
Drama Love in the Clouds presents a captivating story about Ming Xian, a goddess of war brilliantly portrayed by Lu Yuxiao. To win the Tournament of the Six Realms of Hexu, she disguised herself as a man for seven years, only for fate to lead her to defeat at the hands of Ji Bozai, played by Hou Minghao, a former prisoner of the Jixing Abyss. This defeat becomes a crucial turning point as Ming Xian is forced to adopt a new identity a dancer named Ming Yi to get close to Ji Bozai and obtain the antidote for a lethal poison threatening her life. The main strength of this drama lies in the extraordinary chemistry between Hou Minghao and Lu Yuxiao, who successfully bring a natural and subtle "cat and mouse" dynamic to life. Their interaction is filled with delicate romantic tension, conveyed through lingering gazes, small gestures, and light dialogue that build a deep emotional connection. Ji Bozai delivers a stunning performance as an intelligent and calm figure; behind his composure lies a meticulously planned strategy to avenge the teacher who once saved his life. Despite a dark past that makes it difficult for him to trust others, Ming Yi’s presence slowly melts his defenses, leading him to choose to protect and forgive her even after being lied to repeatedly.
On the other hand, Lu Yuxiao demonstrates an incredible acting range through her character's transition from a cold goddess of war to a seductive and cunning dancer. Ming Yi is depicted as a selfless protagonist; she is able to distinguish between personal matters and the greater good, even sincerely helping Ji Bozai protect the Jixing Abyss from various threats. Their relationship, which initially began with a mission to find an antidote and a fake marriage to protect her identity, gradually transforms into genuine love after facing various life and death obstacles together.
Technically, the drama is a feast for the eyes with its elegant cinematography and dreamy visuals. The use of CGI to build the xianxia world appears seamless and not over the top, creating a stunning yet grounded aesthetic. The detailed, luxurious, and aesthetic costumes, combined with an emotional soundtrack, successfully heighten the atmosphere in every romantic scene and battle. The combination of these elements ensures high and consistent production quality throughout the story.
Although it tackles heavy themes of revenge and power struggles, the narrative of Love in the Clouds remains light and entertaining thanks to well placed humorous scenes. While the final episodes feel slightly rushed toward the resolution, the solid acting performances from the cast compensate for this flaw. With a satisfying happy ending, this drama is a must-watch for fans of the costume genre even for those who previously found xianxia too magical or unrealistic as it perfectly balances action and emotion.

So real... Strikingly real
This drama was so real in a way I totally understand why each caracters act the way they do. Many caracters feel like they have been played and betrayed and they act and feel accordingly. Many people will say it’s draggy and will complain about how some caracters act but the truth is their action and behaviours are all the consequences of what they have been through. I guess it feels draggy because it highlights their emotions a whole lot so it feels real.I really love Ming Yi and Ji Bozai. They are both complex caracters so it could be hard for you to watch without some patience and understanding. While watching this drama, I always kept in mind that Ming Yi has been through a lot of pressure to always win and she has barely received love growing up so I could totally understand she never feels safe to not be serious and to be honest about her feelings. Gradually, she will warm up but she still fears people won’t like her if she ever becomes true to herself which leads to her hiding lots of things but that’s how people act when THEY DON’T KNOW HOW TO BE LOVED. 😃 Ji Bozai has been through similar things so he would conceal his feelings, keep his distance and have his trust wavering, sometimes I would feel like he trusts a lot and he would loose his trust in a second. Both have their own sense of pride so it is hard for them to stay united and act together, they would act unilaterally but they learn through a lot of hardships that they need to resolve their problem (be it their own couple problems or others) hand in hand.
I also really loved Tianci and Yan Xiao. Tianci is a strong willed princess, she knows what she wants but she feels helpless about it, at the beginning. Yan Xiao doesn’t know what he truly wants (or he deluded himself in wanting some recognition in the wrong place) but is resolute in his actions. And here is the thing, I have seen people complaining about Tianci but I can totally understand her. Yan Xiao is the type of a man who will do things solo in order to protect who he loves, without them knowing but Tianci prefers to face trials together, she doesn’t want to be sheltered and protected.

Amazing chemistry!
I loved this, I really did. However, I have found the misunderstandings/miscommunication trope is not my favorite. This whole drama is based on that so if that is not your thing then don't watch. Also, I lost count of which villain and storyline we were on.
But the CHEMISTRY. OMG I lived for the romance here. This cdrama has the most kissing/passion/steamy romance scenes I've seen in one yet.
Plus both of the leads are gorgeous to look at as well as the side people.
LASTLY, some of the xianxia dramas I can't get past when the people and swords start flying and it just looks cheesy and hilarious. This, however, was done right. Perfect costumes, perfect music, perfect fantasy elements that look super cool and not cheesy at all.
Although not perfect this one is DEFINITELY worth watching.

An ode to Love
Must beautiful drama I watched so far. Everything is beauty and perfection. All Characters and actors are amazing, very well played.
A melt of so many intense emotions, between love, fear, friendship, anger, confusion, frustration. All these are at the right place and right timing. ML and FL have such a good chemistry and acting that you just want to keep watching them, experiencing their journey and building their bond. There was no cringe moment as I have already seen in other drama even good one. The story is consistent and well articulated. We even feel sorry for the villains.
It was so good and entertaining that I still would like it to continue but the end is so well orchestrated that you couldn’t add anything.

What I really like is that the romance doesn’t feel dry. There’s tension, flirting, and a lot of “enemies-to-lovers” energy in the beginning that slowly turns into genuine trust and love. The side couples are also surprisingly good and add more emotion instead of feeling like filler. The visuals are beautiful – costumes, sets, and fight scenes all look dreamy and high quality, which makes the whole thing feel like a fantasy fairytale.
It’s not perfect though. Some parts in the middle can feel a bit slow, and the world-building sometimes feels under-explained, like they expect you to just accept the rules without telling you too much. A few plot points are a bit dramatic. But if you’re watching mainly for vibes, romance, and a strong main couple, these flaws don’t ruin the experience.
Overall, I’d call Love in the Clouds a very watchable fantasy romance: great chemistry, pretty visuals, and enough drama to keep you hooked.

Great story/writing but not so great adaptation
I truly wanted to love this drama but I got bored quite quickly and skipped through lots of the boring blah, blah, blah conversations. It's probably just me but I felt that there was absolutely no chemistry between the leads, even when FL tried to play cutesy, her acting felt totally fake. The screen writers also made the mistake of keeping the FL lying act, schemes way too prolonged (23 episodes ) so by the time the truth was revealed, nobody cared anymore as viewers got bored already. I also had a bit of an issue with almost all of the actors/actresses looked exactly the same and it was hard to figure out who was whom, (example the FL and the Princess and some of the dancers looked almost identical) same with many of the male characters, very similar faces, age etc.ML has a beautiful , very distinctive face/features and shows lots of emotions on his face throughout the show. On the other hand, the FL has a very average, non distinctive looking face that barely shows any emotions throughout the drama. Their "romance" looks fake and cold, lacks real emotional connection between the two actors. The Vibe/Chemistry was definitely off between the ML and FL characters
Overall, I found the storyline very interesting but the adoption not so much as up until past 23 episodes, it was pretty boring with the never ending poisoned then healed, injured and healed, more injury and healing over and over again plus the same schemes, same villains, same FL lying over and over..... Besides boredom, it became pretty exhausting to watch and I had to use my fast forward quite a lot
Good stuff: I absolutely loved, loved the spirit animals ( the dragon and the cat) and their friendship was especially heartwarming, good actors. Visually, it was probably one of the best fantasy dramas I have seen. Fantastic scenery, dream world, wonderful special effects . Loved the music and the beautiful costumes. You can tell that great efforts, lots of creativity and hard work went into this production. Excellent job team!! Thank you for the dreamy beautiful world, experience.

My opinion on the drama
I have been a fan of cdrama for many years now and I’ve seen my share of series. This drama is one of the best of all I’ve seen. it is very easy to watch, i binge watched many episodes and it felt like i only watched three eps. It had everything you would want in a drama: good plot, good actor/actress, well written characters, comedy, touching romance, good friendships, and so many tropes well done( i really liked the plot twists in the later episodes of the drama..).The miscommunication not only didn’t frustrate me but i really enjoyed it as the angst was so good ( the yearning was crazy work…) and the divorce era was not very dragged. And i like how they prefer to live and die together rather than one of them secretly sacrificing themselves and leaving their significant other behind. ( this is NOT a spoiler)
The ost was the very cherry on top, i love minghao's voice smmm!!
Overall, it was a drama that went way beyond my expectations, I’m so glad i watched this.
It is definitely not overrated and deserves its praises.

Story started off strong but fell apart towards the end
Not sure if we watched the same show based on the ratings. The drama started off strong, but toward the end the plot completely fell apart. It genuinely feels like a different writer took over, the main characters keep getting back together, breaking up, and repeating the same cycle… the costume were really nice too at the start but it feels like they are out of budget towards the endWas this review helpful to you?
Layers of Lies and Twist of Fate
Its been a long time since my last time watch Hou Minghao's drama. And I have an urge to watch Lu Yuxiao so I'm give it a try. This is my first time watch Yuxiao and I'm not disapointedStory,
Such a nice story from the start till the end. We know that no xianxia go without misunderstanding, and this drama served perfectly how lies can create such a beautiful by layers of lies. The good thing is there are no disapointment that I got. All the conflict done as I expected in a satisfied way. But sometimes I feel this drama is a product of entertainment (and this is true tho) for some part.
Acting and Character,
I'm in love with both Ji Bozai and Ming Yi. Hou Minghao and Lu Yuxiao did such an amazing job bring them alive. It is hard to created character that feel alive and human. Thank you Hou Minghao and Lu Yuxiao for taking the job and act for our lovely Ming Yi and Ji Bozai.
This is my time to acknowledge your talent, Lu Yuxiao. Actually I watch this because I want to know you more before I watch your 'Nan Yi'. To be honest I don't really expect much from you but wow gurl you stole my heart! Now there is no way I doubt your talent.
Yu Chengen, this is my first time in your drama that I got slowly irritated when you appear. From adored to annoyed. This proved me you did perfect to potrayed the evolution of cute Situ Ling to ruthless Chao Yan.
I see familiar face like Quan Yilun (honestly I fall for you this time), Pan Junya, Zuo Ye, some kids actor and also some actor that I know from short and mini drama such as Zhang Hongming, Wu Tianhao, Yang Pengcheng, Deng Xiaoci, Zhu Lilan, Wu Yiqiao, etc. They all did a great job.
Music,
Hou Minghao's voice are hypnotizing. Such a warm-soft-comforting voice you are.
All of the song are so good and express each scenes properly. Thank you music director.
Rewatch and Overall Value,
First I want to praise the editing staff. Gosh the CGI is CGI-ing. Such a beautiful execution of every part of drama. From lighting or properties placement, graphic action, or event the comical visual are top-notch! I will remember this drama in my heart.

PERFECTION
This is amazing! The depth of the characters and the many layers to the story is so good. This had me laughing, crying, gasping, rolling on my bed, shrieking over what was happening. It was exciting; the plot literally thickens along the way. Each twist and turn had me clutching my blanket, not knowing what was going to happen next. The pace and the ending was utterly satisfying (though if I’m being honest, I skipped or snoozed on a lot of Situ Ling scenes just because he was so unbearable, but no offense to the actor). Overall, it was so well-written, beautifully directed and executed. Chinese fantasy dramas are totally top tier. Was this review helpful to you?
