who wrote the script for the female lead?
for the life of me I can’t figure out what roams around in the head of this vacuous creature. The ml is a great actor because he convinces me that he actually likes the fl. I can scarcely finish it because of her but I watch only to see more of the ml. Sketchy story. Predictable but unlikely. Relationship drags on to what end? Woman is so toxic to the real crises in his life yet we are to believe their relationship is healthy on some level? I’ll muscle through since I’m at the end but I’ll look for the ml in other more enjoyable roles.Was this review helpful to you?
The perpetual infantilization of the female character won't stop...
"Speed and Love" reminds me a lot of the cdrama "Hidden Love", for all the wrong reasons LOL.These dramas, in my opinion, share the same negative points:
- The weird aspect of the female lead's performance. The actresses and teams behind these dramas clearly did everything possible to infantilize the fl character. This is very disturbing to watch a full grown women acting like they are 12 ...
- The creepy aspect, where they walk a very fine line between emotional inc-st with the characters initially seeing each other as brother and sister. What is this strange obsession, devoid of depth and any real psychological exploration?
"Speed and Love" was interesting for three reasons:
- The chemistry between Esther Yu and He Yu is not only undeniable but also very intense.
- He Yu's performance is what saves the drama in terms of the realism of the emotions portrayed. It's clear that he put in a lot of work to embody his character. His acting was really good.
- The directing & production were very refreshing! The tones, the colors, the atmosphere, everything was a pleasant surprise. It's quite rare to find modern cdramas without unpleasant or annoying filters.
Here are few others flaws the drama had :
- Esther Yu's acting was more interesting in my opinion during the second half of the drama.
However, overall she exaggerate her facial expressions far too much to appear cute, and also to made us believe her character had a childish attitude, but it clearly looked unatural and repetitive.. Tbh, it was unbearable and disconcerting to see her act like that, just as it was for me to see Zhao Lusi do it in Hidden Love...
- The writing of the drama was boring and very basic. The dialogues were truly disappointing.
Conclusion : the drama was most def problematic and basic but the scenes between the cp were pretty cute when they were acting naturally, thanks to their nice chemistry.
Another forgetable drama ~

The noble idiocy trope is strong in this one
There were 29 episodes at approximately 40 minutes each, but this show is a five. It really can’t be any higher than that.Even though the cast is absolutely first class and the FL is very cute and stunning it fails to deliver and has a lot of problematic elements.
It starts off good. Not strong but good.. we see the FL planning to visit her brother in Thailand but being informed by her mother that he’s actually not her biological brother. She still goes to see him despite the shock and from the moment she lays eyes on him again after their enforced separation she immediately developed romantic interest in him.
I can see this being really problematic for a lot of viewers, but I can get over this. It’s not a big problem.
Next we watch them slowly forming a bond and getting together with her being overly clingy towards him.
He then gets involved in an accident which nearly takes his life and cripples him and he breaks up with her “for her own good”. We’ve all heard and seen this kind of noble active idiocy and they are then separated for six years while she goes back to Canada to look after a sick Mum and goes to study..
They then reunite in China and she becomes really petty immature and ridiculous by getting back at him by telling him she’s marrying somebody else which clearly causes him pain but they seem to just completely brush over this act of vindictiveness. Let me tell you this stuff is not cute it’s not clever it’s not entertaining. It’s just petty and frankly it shows poor character if people find this kind of stuff entertaining..
Anyway, they get together and he even wins over her mother and they live happily ever after. Actually, it’s all a bit meh when I think about it.

An Unmissable Masterpiece of Emotion and Action of Adopted Siblings Falling in Love

I binged over ten episodes in one sitting, and I can confidently say it is a 10/10. Every moment is unforgettable, every scene hits hard, and the story stays with you long after it ends.

the cinematography, acting, visuals and chemistry of main actors 💯💯💯EstherYu killed her role💯❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥 she has gotten so much better and that is why I’m happy I Stan her. her growth in this industry is just amazing and beautiful to watch

So-so
Okay. Speed and love. I had high expectations. But it wasn't met. I'm not sure if any of you knows Forbidden flower, Taiwanese drama by Jerry Yan. The vibes started similar to the forbidden flower. Mature guy X cheerful female lead. However, I think it became too slow paced. Like the story is dragging. I mean they officially started dating at ep 15, I think. For a 29 episode drama. That's too slow paced. It lacked in a lot of things. Just when I think I'm about to cry, my tears doesn't come out cause the emotional rising gets cut. Like, the pacing should be at a high emotional part then suddenly, Na-da. Visually, top-notch but don't you think that there's too many cast but so little time to dive into their stories. In fact, the story revolved on the 2 main leads but their emotional capacity to deliver each scene feels lacking. The only time where I was smiling ear to ear is when they're kissing or flirting but that's not how it's supposed to be. If that is the only part where I feel elated, it means, the story itself is subpar. And to think this drama have too much hype compared to how it should be. Either way, this one is good only as YT shorts or tiktok clip but to watch the entire drama, it's not worth it.Was this review helpful to you?

Siblings but not really siblings....
I wanted to like Speed and Love, and the beginning had some charm, but I really couldn’t get past the main premise. The leads growing up as siblings—even though they’re not blood-related—felt uncomfortable and borderline incestuous, which overshadowed any chemistry the show tried to build. I will not deny the leads had chemistry but this girl literally saw him as her brother up until the middle of the story. I couldn't get past that.The story lost momentum around the middle and became completely boring by the time the leads got together. I also hate the whole "I'm leaving you now because it's for your own good" trope.
The acting was fine, except for the fact that I was annoyed by Esther Yu's acting throughout the drama. She can act without a doubt, just didn't like her in this one. The production and music were competent, but the premise just ruined it for me. Overall, it was an okay drama, just not for me.

A beautiful emotional roller coaster
i have been watching Esther Yu and He Yu for quite a few years now. This is by far one of their best performances. perfect blend of romance, drama, emotions and comedy. gets you hooked and the next thing you know, you would be binge watching. this comment is coming from a person who has watched 200+ dramas so far. Also, it’s definitely not light hearted, so watch if and only if you are ok to get emotional. Special shout out to Qi Ming for doing an amazing supporting role. Felt so happy to watch Mike Angelo. it’s been a while since I watched his series/movie. so it was a great treat for meWas this review helpful to you?
Esther Yu, you are beautiful, I hope that one day you get a decent role
The plot is interesting and the characters have great chemistry, but everything would be better if the female lead stopped acting like a 5-year-old. I know this isn't the only show where this happens, but it drove me absolutely crazy in this one because I love the rest.THOSE HOT SCENES?? EXCUSE ME??? But right after, she'd act like a little girl and it exasperates me.

THIS DRAMA VERY INTERESTING ~
So far, I've really enjoyed the acting of the cast, especially the female lead. Wow, she portrayals her character in another level~ really good actress! so fitting and enjoyable to watch. The storyline is quite engaging. The emotions are conveyed to the audience and are easy to understand. The cinematography is also very beautiful. They are the CUTEST
The chemistry between the leads is FANTASTIC and it's hands down the best part of the drama. I was giggling and kicking my feet the entire time.I have a love-hate relationship with Esther Yu's performances — she's great but the aegyo is often so over-the-top. Here, though, it fits well for the most part, though there are some subplots that are quite cheesy. He Yu absolutely sells the bad boy (with a soft heart) persona.
The only hiccup this drama has for me was the big conflict that lead to the main couple going no-contact for years; while I like how the female lead's bubbliness came through while dealing with it, the angst leading up to the separation just didn't quite land and was more frustrating. It's already one of my least favorite tropes, but especially since the drama already started with the main characters reconnecting after not communicating while they were younger, utilizing a similar trope the second time just didn't really work.
Ultimately though, this was a highly addictive watch (especially in the first half) and I hope we get more of this archetype of ML in the future — they're really hard to come by but I eat it up every time.

Storyline seems to be a combo/ copy of movies "My Fault" and "Fast and Furious" "
This storyline is not very original as it appears to be a copy from the very popular drama "My Fault" in which, mother father divorced, mother married a rich guy and takes her teenage daughter to live with her and the rich stepfather also has a son same age as stepsister. Bad boy step brother is heavily into illegal car racing, young, parties, fighting etc. Hot stepsister and hot stepbrother fall in love, (not blood relatives either) heavy love scenes, parties. fight club scenes. Even the stepsister' s father figure is the same, a burned out race car driver who taught his daughter how to race, pretty much the same storyline.And the rest of this story is from "Fast and Furious" major competition and lots of car races, etc. So..,at least 80% of the story is cut and pasted from above movies.
I also found the story development pretty slow and boring in some places. I give it a 8 based on the perfect casting, great chemistry between ML and FL. I loved most of the wardrobe and styles of both male and female characters except the FL wedding dress in the end that was pretty ugly. Great job production crew and all the actors. Loved the music
