The film is worth watching and rewatching
In this sci-fi blockbuster, Dylan Wang plays an astronaut named Xu Tianbiao. The plot revolves around a virtual dream system called "Sweet Dreams," which allows people to create their own worlds, but it's fraught with danger. Dylan takes on over 15 different roles in these dreams, from a warrior to a gangster. The film is captivating in its cinematic dynamism, and Dylan has an excellent sense of camerawork. In scenes where reality around him collapses or changes color (like a kaleidoscope), his movements make the action believable, even if it's purely visual. The contrast between "image" and pain is palpable, as you see an incredibly beautiful background, but Dylan's face reflects rage or despair. This dissonance compels you to keep watching, wanting to understand why the hero feels so miserable in such a beautiful world. When he fights in a space where there is no up or down, it looks like an expensive art object. The sheer scale of the film is a joy in itself. Dylan conveyed his character's loneliness through his facial expressions as digital reality crumbles around him. The scene where the character realizes he's just code in the system was the most emotional, revealing his soul, not just his face. With a cold, almost lifeless gaze, Dylan managed to convey his natural charisma and warmth, becoming a frighteningly beautiful instrument of the system. The actor demonstrated his ability to play abstract states. The film is worth watching and rewatching for its fantastical narrative, beautiful visuals, music, acting, and thought-provoking content.

A fun watch with a traditional Chinese ending
Go see this movie! This movie was in enjoyable to watch. The story starts very creatively and it’s really nice to see how creative they were with the different dreamworld. Lots of computer generated action and events, but to a high-quality the actors all do a great job the characters have realistic, chemistry, and good character development. It is a gripping story that starts out fun and it becomes very serious. The traditional Chinese ending is not bad, but I felt undercuts the creativity of the earlier part of the story. The end is very good, very well acted and emotional. As a long time movie watcher though. I give more points for not falling into tropes.
Go see this morning and enjoy the Chinese industry. I keep making creative movies like this.

Worth Another watch
Theme was unique on its own, though the 'transport and wake up' part is similar to an English movie, overall the story makes you want to see it more. Movie felt too short for me and could have been a few episodes longer, though I guess this - not enough is what's enough to want more but more would probably be cringe, who knows. The setup's in the dream were great and fun plus the effects which makes it fun instead of bloody. Dylan and Victoria, they're like a son and mother duo, a hyper kid and a serious mother, maybe caused by their position as well in the story. I liked Dylan's banter with the AI, they're like siblings, trying to irritate the other. I like how it started like it's going to be a fun show but got serious, then even serious as it goes. Was this review helpful to you?

Unmatched, hilarious, and unexpectedly heartbreaking.
Per Aspera Ad Astra is unlike anything else out there right now. If you think you know what to expect, you don't.Dylan Wang proves once again why he is a phenomenal actor. He holds the entire narrative together with so much charm and humor, making you laugh before absolutely breaking your heart. The emotional turn caught me completely off guard. It’s different, it’s unique, and it refuses to be compared to typical sci-fi or fantasy releases. A masterpiece that deserves every single bit of its perfect score.

if you've never seen a chinese sci-fi movie, watch this!
for my first chinese sci-fi movie, this feels like a blast. very solid storyline that actually respects the logical scientific aspect very much. explained the theories in the right amount: not too much (that it feels like a lecture) and not too little (that would left the audience confused). the CGI execution is very well done considering the amount of objects that need to be depicted. the drama bit incorporating the scientific aspect is a nice touch though might be confusing for some. personally, i don't like rewatching movies but if you're into rewatching, a lot of rigid details could be picked up along the way. overall, a very entertaining movie and plays as a hard critique to AI-dependence at the same time. Was this review helpful to you?

“A wondrous world is born from the mind; the stars drift into dreams."
I came upon this movie by chance and was surprised by how good it is.This is exactly the kind of movie worth watching in the cinema: entertaining, fast-paced, filled with action, impressive CGI, a good story, and cool characters. Creative and emotional, it also explores a very relevant topic — AI.
Wang Hedi’s performance here is incredibly cool.😎
The movie is a sci-fi blockbuster. The story revolves around a virtual dream system called “Sweet Dream,” created for astronauts traveling on a long-term mission to a distant planet. While their bodies remain asleep during the journey, the system allows them to build and live inside personalized dream worlds of their own creation — a perfect solution to keep the body healthy.
But the system gradually starts evolving beyond human control. What begins as a beautiful technological miracle slowly turns into something far more dangerous and unpredictable.
It is a gripping story that starts out fun but gradually becomes much more serious. The film feels both futuristic and surprisingly relevant. At its core, it explores one of today’s most fascinating and unsettling topics — the relationship between artificial intelligence and humans.
Just go and watch it. It is 100 % worth your time!

A true visual spectacle that you don’t want to miss.

A treat for the eyes!!
This feels like someone took Everything Everywhere All At Once, Inception, & Gravity, and made a movie out of it.Victoria Song & Dylan Wang are great together, and it was great watching them gradually trust each other.
The world hopping is AMAZING and the extended dream crushing sequence at the end made my jaw drop.
The one downside was that the main villain (LM) didn't feel compelling. It felt like a rehash of the "evil computer" trope. It was a bit of a letdown after the amazing start.

The Visuals: Maximalist Aesthetics and Genre-Hopping. Director Han Yan uses this premise to create a literal visual playground. Since the protagonists jump through different realities built by the human mind, the film drastically shifts styles with each action block: we go from a dystopian futuristic shootout to choreographed cutlery battles in Western restaurants, featuring ninjas, warriors, and gangsters. The visual effects (VFX), which actually delayed the film's release for further refinement, deliver a vibrant, highly textured maximalist aesthetic.
The Script: Between Action and Philosophy. While the pacing is brisk and the action sequences are the highlight, the narrative sometimes stumbles while trying to balance so many setting changes. The dynamic between Dylan Wang and Victoria Song carries the film, but the deeper commentary on the dangers of technological escapism—the fact that humanity prefers to live a perfect lie rather than face reality—ends up taking a backseat, buried under explosions and stylish fights.
It is a sci-fi visual spectacle that entertains through its visual creativity and energetic rhythm. If you liked Inception but are looking for something with the aesthetic energy of modern Asian pop cinema, it is an excellent choice.
